Are you a republican, democrat, or independent/other?
Liberal, conservative, other?

Discuss your beliefs and why you have them.

Okay... I'm laughing myself silly here... Sorry to be off-topic, and if you want me to delete this I will, but your poll is SO PERFECT for the subject of politics.

I bow in humble acknowledgment of your comic abilities.

Hmm . . . I just joined and was looking for some sort of a debating sub-forum. It's really hopping, eh?

Anyway, I'm a Socialist.

This forum was just created yesterday.

How long have you had these socialist beliefs?

Oh, yeah huh. In that case, I suppose it's off to a fair start.

And I've been a Socialist for the last year or so [since I started reading books on the subject]. What party, if any, do you associate with?

I am of no party, really. I've taken several of those tests that are supposed to tell you and all of them have brought me between republican and democrat.

I don't really need a label though.

That's good. There needs to be more politicians like that. It'd keep them more open-minded and not so tied down by a particular set of beliefs.

I say America goes purple, and we have one party, call it: "American".

Americans like to fight against each other too much to ever do that. We prefer to keep everything mentally segregated while convincing everyone that we are all equal.

I do have some news though. We aren't all equal.

True, and that's a tradition we're got to get over. Our "divided" mentality doesn't solve anything. It never will.

At this point in time, no, we're not equal. But that doesn't mean that we don't have the capability to be.

I'd have to say that I am moderate left wing. Although I carry socialist ideals, I also believe that a competative structure is needed. People always need a reason to strive, or something to strive for. To be equal is great, but to be superior is divine.

Sure, we have the capability to be equal, but why would we ever want to be? I agree with what King of Infinite Shadows says here:

Competition is needed. Whoever brought about the idea that everyone should be equal didn't account for the fact that when everyone is equal, someone is bound to rebel.

Think men and women, women claim they want to be equal with men but they constantly complain when men try to humour women, by treating them as they would another man.

*Ahem*... The conservative/liberal scale refers to the amount of government involvement you are okay with. It has little to do with how you feel about social/economic issues. The more conservative you are, the less power you want the government to have. The more liberal you are, the more control you want the government to have. Lately people have been seriously construing the meaning of liberal and conservative.

So to sum it up: Extreme liberal = socialist. Extreme conservative = Anarchist.

I am moderately conservative because I disagree with the majority of politicians and the less they get to decide what I do the better. I am actually considered a little extremist because I think that democracy as we run it is the wrong form of government for the US. If you're over 18 and not a criminal or a foreigner we let you vote, but that doesn't work when so much of the population is of mediocre intelligence and there is no way of verifying that everyone voting even understands what they are voting for. Supposedly the electoral college is there to balance that out, but it's an inefficient system. The only proof you need - Bush... Re-elected...
