Where are good places in Europe (Western, Northern, Eastern, Central, etc.) to travel alone during the summer? I am trying to plan my trip. I have about a week free in late July, and will be meeting a friend in Prague at the end of that week. Any suggestions?
Also, I am seriously contemplating buying/renting a backpack instead of the standard luggage, seeing as I'm wandering aimlessly for a week. I'm spending most of my trip in Florence, Italy in a language program. Does it seem like a good idea/worth the trouble to not get luggage? I would have to buy new luggage anyway..

I think luggage depends where you are staying and how you are travelling...
are you doing hostels or cheap accomidation?
will you be walking with bags a lot?
Never having been to Eastern Europe I can't give you any hints there.. but I think you could easily spend a week in the Czheck (?) republic.

I'm looking into hostels more than the more expensive options, and lots of trains

In that case, a backpack is essential.. with locks,
Do you have any travelling clothes? and by that I mean very lightweight easy to wash and dry?

So far about 3 lightweight handwashable shirts.. still working on the lower part. I have some respectiable skirts, but I'll be needing pants too

I went to Ireland last year and if you're a fan of gardens, then Dublin is for you. Stephen's Green is so beautiful. I also saw the cliffs of Moher and they were just breath taking! Plus the people in Ireland are REALLY nice... I got lost one day and I was looking at a map, this local lady came up to me and told me exactly how to get there... plus Ireland has really nice malls too...
I also recommend Paris; great shopping, amazing views and its not too hot in the summer. The hotels can get a bit cramped but if you stay at either a four star or a five star single room, you should be fine...

Holland is absolutely gorgeous if you go to the right places. Apparently Amsterdam is rather dirty and boring, and the only place i remember of the places ive been told that are good is Rotterdam. yuh.
