Current Employment: Student, of course. I want to play with the Mad Rabbits, but Mom says I need to focus on my studies more than my music, but the pipes call to my soul
Dream Job: Herbologist, Potion-maker, like Da, I guess. I’m keeping my options open, though.
Personality:
■ Loyal- My family is my family; my friends are my family, period. I won’t hesitate to defend them.
■ Expressive- I seem to have inherited the passion for music my Da has, particularly Irish folk music. I also enjoy woodworking
■ Dog Empathy- People are alright, I guess, but dogs are better. In return, when I meet dogs, they always seem to know they have a friend, even the big and mean ones.
■ Dependable- I like being the person folks know they can rely upon to do the right thing.
■ Brave- Da and my cousins taught me a few things about playing Quidditch, one of them was that if you try to avoid getting hurt, you’re the one who gets hit with the Bludger. Meaning: If you’re going to take a risk, take it and be done with it already. If you know you’re going to get hit, take the hit, and then worry about the mess afterwards.
■ Obdurate: When I set my mind to something, I’ll stick it out until it's done.
Likes:
■ Quidditch
■ Fish and Chips
■ Helping Dad in the greenhouse
■ Dogs
■ Kenmare supporter (got family on the team, so …)
Dislikes:
■ Bullies in general, anyone who hurts animals in particular
■ Crowds and especially loud people. They give me headaches.
■ Being stuck indoors for too long
■ Not particularly fond of extremely spicy food
■ Anyone who messes with Claddaugh, or Freya
Hobbies:
■ Playing the Uilleann pipes
■ Playing Quidditch, or trying to
■ Gardening
■ Woodworking
■ Hockey and Rugby, because I get to hit things, and I’m a good size to play.
Strengths:
■ Claddaugh says that I’m brave, but she’s my sister, and something did happen last winter, so maybe …
■ My faith in my family, an’, ye know, the Man Upstairs
Weaknesses:
■ Well, there’s those who say I’m too opinionated for my age, but that’s just not true, an’ who asked ye anyway?
■ I do get focused on things, an’ forget the rest of the world around me.
Fears:
■ That thing in the woods. Dinna tell me it’s not real
■ That I’ll fail my little sister

History:
Childhood: In a break with family traditions, Braeden was born in a hospital in Dublin, Ireland, the same one his mother was, as Annie Grey was deathly afraid of the thought of giving birth in an old house, attended to by her great-grandmother-in-law, who was her clan chieftain, Mistress of Waterford, and planned to midwife her in the traditional methods, without the most modern medical assistance, with the entire family gathered to watch. This caused quite the stir in the family, with Canaan wisely siding with his ‘bonny sweet Annie with the red hair’ and offering the compromise that Mother Grey would attend the birth and be ready should modern medicine and the ‘boy doctors an’ their shiny toys fail.’ According to the family, when Braeden was born, all the dogs on the grounds of the Old Grey Priory howled in unison, greeting the arrival of a kinsman.
As he got older, Braeden was always in the company of a loving family and always had a wolfhound or two around him and got so good at mimicking their barks that he earned the family nickname of Madra Ceanannais. He got close to his cousin Freya, so much so that many (outside the family, of course) thought they were siblings. When little Claddaugh was born, he was told it was his job to be her protector, and little Braeden gave his word he would be so.
One of his older cousins, a member of the Causeway Hares, started teaching Braeden how to play the Uilleann pipes, and Braeden soon took to the traditional Irish pipes. He found that he enjoys playing the pipes and how it brings peace to his heart. He has since started learning how to play the traditional bagpipes, though it has been suggested he wait on getting his own set until he got bigger than his instrument.
School Years: Braeden attended the same primary school as all the Grey children did, and while he was noted as being a good student, he was more physically inclined than some of his predecessors. He soon got involved in the school’s hockey and rugby league, which gave him an outlet for his boundless energy. Unfortunately, he also got involved in schoolyard altercations, though upon investigation it was discovered it was never to start them, but to either end the matter, or protect one of his friends or a member of the family. One boy learned a painful lesson about what stealing little Claddaugh’s lunch money would get him.
This past winter, an interesting event occurred when Braeden, Claddaugh, and Freya were visiting relatives in the northern corner of the country. Little Claddaugh wanted to gather materials to make the wreath she wanted to take to the annual Christmas party and show Grammy Grey, and as she wasn’t allowed to go out into the forest by herself, Braeden and Freya went along. As they ventured deeper into the woods, they found a small ring of standing stones, which intrigued them all. A sudden winter squall erupted, dropping temperatures and reducing visibility to nothing. Fearing that Freya and his little sister would freeze to death, a roaring fire appeared in Braeden’s hand, which he used to create a campfire to keep them all warm. As darkness fell with seeming preternaturally swiftness, and they sheltered among the standing stones, the children got the impression something was stalking them, and Braeden saw what he was sure was a winter troll among the trees. The fire appeared in his hands again, while a brilliant white light manifested around Freya’s hand. Whatever the kids saw vanished, and they were soon found by the cousins and a pack of wolfhounds sent to find them.
The incident earned Braeden the nickname ‘Madra na Coille Dhomhain’, and both he and Freya needed to be homeschooled as their inherent magic manifested under dire circumstances. It wasn’t long afterwards that Braeden received his Hogwarts letter. While he and his father were shopping for supplies in Diagon Alley, they visited Ollivander’s to get his wand. After several tries at pairings that ended in failure and frustration, on an impulse, Braeden raised his hand and tried calling a wand to him, rather like Rey Skywalker did. Suddenly, a wand escaped from one of the boxes in the back of the store and sailed into his hand. As a warm, fiery glow bathed his son, Canaan was heard to say, “I think we’ll go with that one.”
