Notes: Rey has been motivated all term by the urgent, and self-imposed, need to ‘live up’ to the exploits of her older siblings and relatives (Lewis and Su specifically), not be a disappointment to Nani and Mama, her adoptive parents, be a proper example for her younger siblings and relations (Bryn and Wen), and to earn high enough grades to become one of ‘Marni’s Chosen’ in the NEWT programme. To do any less would crush her sense of self-worth. Rey started studying over the previous summer and focused on her OWLs when not attending to her other commitments, at times skipping meals and sleep to fit in extra study time, with strategic (read: 'sparing') use of Wit Sharpening Potions to combat her longstanding and well-documented issues with Brain Fog. As a result, she emerged from her exams about ten pounds lighter, and suffering massive headaches and exhaustion.
It should be noted that she aced her Potions and Alchemy written and practical exams, and received a nearly perfect grade in Healing Arts, knowing the requirements for the NEWT classes. Given her focus, it is understandable that her Astronomy and History of Magic grades slipped a little, and her Defense Against the Dark Arts grades reflect her skill with defensive magic (and that her wand’s core excels at such applications); however, not being able to defeat her boggart caused her overall grade to slip.
She took Ghost and Ghoul Studies because of the extremely tragic circumstances in her early life (and a desire to get to know her previous families), but she couldn’t apply as much focus to it as she might have liked; meanwhile, she took Wizard Law as part of her future career plans, of being a Healer who similarly helps orphans as her adoptive grandmother does. Her casework for the Law exam was well-written and well-argued, if emotional in the nature of its appeal. When taking the infamous Kitten Test for her Transfigurations OWL, she made sure to restore the kitten afterwards, and Rosie now has a playmate, as soft-hearted Rey couldn't bear the thought of the poor little thing being the subject of anybody else's exam.
