In order to keep Tianxia fun and give members lots to do, we have endeavored to come up with a bunch of games that are beneficial for your character while also fun for you! This thread is used to explain rules and provide examples. All point redemptions should be done at the same time as a rank change in the Community Thread. All of these came are meant to be done with a second character, generally in some kind of contest with another Tianxia member.

For more information on games in general, and instructions on how to play the games, read on!

Points
Points are what you earn when you win a game. These points can be used to rank up in lieu of roleplays! There are five kinds of points: Wildcard, Combat, Speed, Creativity, and Intelligence. Some ranks will ask for specific points instead of RPs, but you will notice none will ask for Wildcard points. Wildcard points will simply become whatever points you need them to be.

When your SoA completes a game, you may post in the Community Thread using the form at the bottom of this post to let us know. The point(s) earned will be added to your SoA's tally which can be found here. If your SoA wins, they earn 2 points. If your SoA loses, they earn 1 point.

The exception to this rule is the Prompt Game. When you play out a prompt, all of the participants in the RP may redeem it for two points! But they will each have to post redeeming the points for themselves.

What if we tie in a game?
If there is a tie, all users participating in the game will earn points as though they won.

Can you combine roleplays and points for rank upgrades?
No. For rank upgrades, they must be entirely through roleplays or entirely through points.

Can you use redeemed roleplays for later rank upgrades?
If you redeem a roleplay for points, the roleplay can no longer be used for rank upgrades.

How many points can I redeem at a time?
You may redeem more than one point at once! Just remember to fill out the form for all your wins/losses, we will check to make sure they add up!

Stats
Because Tianxia is a pride with many varying ranks, not to mention that allows other species to join, we decided to adopt a stat system to balance things out a bit for a few games. Right now stats may depend on rank or species.

You may notice that there aren't any stats for hybrids! If you have a hybrid, you get to pick which base stat your SoA will have, depending on what kind of hybrid it is. For example, a cheeton can pick either the stats of a lion or the stats of a cheetah, and so on for other hybrids. You cannot change this afterwards, so choose wisely! If you choose a species base for one kind of game, you will automatically pick that species base for any other games where the species interferes with the stats. Because hybrids are special, you need to post here picking what base stats you're using before you play a game that uses stats.

In the future, there may be the option to upgrade stats!

Good Sportsmanship
Okay, so this is more OOC than anything. But it affects IC too! Please, be a good sport, both when you are winning and when you are losing! Even if your SoA is winning by a lot, try not to humiliate your opponent with the content of your post. And if you are losing, don't get upset or try to make your opponent feel bad about it. If someone makes a mistake, point it out nicely, and don't start a fight over it. It'd be a huge bummer if the games brought out drama and hurt feelings, so please keep it friendly!

Earning Special Ranks
There are five special ranks corresponding to each game for winning 10 games of the specific type. Hunting rewards the rank Huntmaster. Dueling rewards the rank Battlemaster. Racing rewards the rank Champion. Art Show rewards the rank Savant. Debating rewards the rank Professor. Each of these ranks has its own duties in the pride and is not affiliated with any specific House.

Awards: 2 Wildcard Points

The Prompt Game is really rather simple. In this post, you will find RP prompts, each are numbered. The prompts here are static, with some being House-restricted. New prompts may be added at any time and is is also possible for some older ones to be retired. You may complete each prompt once per user, not per character. This is because each prompt rewards 2 Wildcard points to every participant.

Each prompt will propose some sort of situation or idea for your character to live out or discuss in a roleplay. It is very similar to roleplay contests. Only this time you answer in full-blown roleplays! There may also be some additional rules or limitations attached to each prompt, such as how many characters can participate in the roleplay, others may have House or Rank requirements. As for redeeming points, the same rule applies as to any other game; each person must redeem their points on their own.

Special Prompts
These prompts are limited in their length and will typically only exist for a few months before being retired. These prompts will award 3 points instead of the usual 2, but will usually be a specific point and not the normal Wildcard points offered.

Removed Prompts
The prompts in this post are added and removed sporadically, like we mentioned earlier in this post. We will keep dates on when we add and remove prompts, removed prompts will be saved in this thread. We understand RPs may take long, and so long as the RP was started while the prompt was still up, it will count! even if it finished after it was removed.

Requirements: Every character must have 1,000 words in the roleplay, regardless of if it a roleplay with another user or a solo roleplay. (Keep in mind breeding roleplay requirements if you want it to be countable towards that.)
How-to: Choose a prompt and answer it in a roleplay. This can be done either on your own or with a friend. Be sure to include which prompt you are using in the first post of your RP. All participants must be using the same prompt.

And with that all of the way, here are the prompts!

Foreign Tour
There is a rumor going around the pride that the crown princess, Long Di, is planning to go on some sort of diplomatic mission outside of Tiaxia lands! There is some speculation this may be to try and mend the pride's ties with the Pridelands following former Tianxian prince Lóng Jīnsè's abdication of their throne. However, some hypothesize that it may have nothing to do with it. One this is certain, many are trying to make themselves know to be chosen as part of the crown princess's entourage if it does occur!

The Black Ram
Scouts have reported a strange sight, a black Nubian Ibex! It appears to be male, as its massive curved horns have been documented from a distance. This report has occurred all across the pride, in every House, showing that this rare creature is on the move... and is elusive. It appears to evade all attempts to slay the beast and become something of a challenge for all would-be hunters.

Hunting Game

Awards: Wildcard Points (2 for win, 1 for loss)

User Image

This game consists of a simple challenge to catch the most and greatest of prey in the allotted time. However, the RP, or the game-part of the RP, actually takes place after all the hunting has been. This is because hunting challenges usually span over a few days following the issue of the challenge.

Below is a run-down on how to play this game. Whatever precedes the actual start of the game, the rolling, is entirely up to the players. If you wish to RP normally for a while and then more onto the game, or just go straight into the game, it is up to you.

This game can be played either in teams or one-on-one.

The First Roll - Roll a 1-5 if 1v1, 2-7 is 2v2, or 4-10 for 3v3+.
All the characters arrive and, after greetings and whatever else they may decide to do before the actual beginning of the game, they declare how many prey they caught. You then have each character (or one per team, if playing in teams) roll for the amount of prey caught.

Roll based on team size
One vs One - Roll 1-5
Two vs Two - Roll 2-7
Three vs Three (or above) - Roll 4-10

Rolling for Size
Following the rolls that determining how many prey the SoA caught, you will roll for what kind of prey was caught. Roll once per post, with the amount of rolls determined by the number obtained in the first roll (amount of prey caught). There may be a need for filler posts if one team rolls significantly higher than the other.

It would be strange (and difficult) to transport the bodies, especially when considering decomposition. So the teams will present to each a trophy from each kill as proof. What this part actually consists of is a presentation of, well... head. Or other significant body parts, such as paws, tails, or ears, but they must be identifiable to their species. As for what happened to the rest of the body, waste not! It was likely eaten, either by the hunter or whomever they are responsible for feeding.

Roll 1-5
If a 1: Small game, 1 point.
If a 2, 3 or 4: Medium game, 2 points.
If a 5: Large game, 3 points.

(Small game is prey with weighing less than 20kg. Medium game has a weight between 20kg and 90kg, while large game is anything weighing above 90kg.)

Finding a Winner
After all catches are presented, players add up the amount of points they earned. Whoever has the most points is the winner!

Duel

Awards: Combat Points (2 for win, 1 for loss)

User Image

Members will, on occasion, formally challenge each other for duels. Usually they will agree on a location, and a judge, along with a few base rules like no using claws, or no aiming for the eyes, that sort of thing. The duel only actually needs two lions, and though they often have a judge, the judge can be an 'assumed', off-screen one.

The duel system in Tianxia is HP-based, with each species and rank varying accordingly. Lions, for example, start with 30HP. There are particular ranks that would raise it, if they have gone through the Guard career path.

Can this system be used for duels with outsiders?
Yes, this system is setup to handle duels with outsiders. Any outsider will have a -5 HP penalty applied to them. They will use their respective species stats found at the bottom of this post. These duels will only provide 1 wildcard point to the Tianxia member instead of two, but will not include a judge and are typically not formal battle, instead are isolated encounters.

What about gods?
High Guardians and Guardians both receive a +10 HP bonus, while rogue gods receive a +5 HP bonus.

A Quick Guide
• Find stat information for the species of the SoA in the duel. Hybrids will pick one of their two halves.
• Roll 2, 12-sided dice every post the character makes an attack.
• The first number rolled determines if the attack misses, hits, or lands a critical hit. These numbers are determined by the species stat block.
• The second number determines damage dealt to their opponent.
• Normal hits are 2nd number, up to 5 points of damage. Critical hits are 2nd dice number * 2, up to 16 points of damage.
• Go back and forth until someone hits 0 HP.

Getting Started
Once two characters want to begin the two, they begin rolling. With each post, roll 2, 12-sided dice. The first dice determines if the attack was a hit, a miss, or a critical hit. The second dice corresponds to the damage dealt if they hit. Hits, misses, or critical hits are identified by the numbers beside their corresponding name in their stat sheet. There are the miss, the hit and the critical hit numbers.

Below is an example of stats, the lion-base stats.

Lions
HP: 30
Hit: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 11
Miss: 1, 7 and 10
Critical Hit: 4, 9 and 12

So that means if a lion rolls a 1, for example, he missed his opponent. If he rolled a 3, he would hit and do damage. If he rolled a 4, he would make a critical hit and so more damage.

Determining Damage
And how about that second dice? The second dice means damage! Damage done is dependent on the first dice as well. Below are the three situations:

First dice rolls a miss – The damage is 0, as the attack missed.
First dice rolls a hit – The damage is equal to the number rolled. The maximum damage possible is 5.
First dice rolls a critical hit – The damage is the number rolls * 2. The maximum damage possible is 16.

Dealing with Loss
The battle continues in every post until someone runs out of HP. What happens when your SoA's HP drop to (or below) 0? You lose! You can decide whether or not your SoA fainted, was just doing so badly that they clearly lost, sustained an injury and could no longer fight, or gave up to avoid a further beating. The ending is entirely up to you, aside from the fact that your SoA lost and their opponent is declared the victor. Once a winner has been decided, rolling ends. You are welcome to continue roleplaying even after.

For an example of a duel, click here! (This is using an older system, but still holds mostly true to example.)

Duel Stats

The stats for species are decided taking into account the anatomy/build of each species, and how they usually fare naturally. This means that there are some giant disparities, but it isn't made with the intention to put anyone down, just to be a bit more realistic. Cheetahs, for example, are very weak combatants. The numbers were chosen arbitrarily for each species.

Additionally, there are a few modifiers for Tianxia members that are guards or within the guard career. There are also special bonuses

Lions
HP: 30
Hit: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 11
Miss: 1, 7 and 10
Critical Hit: 4, 9 and 12

Hyenas
HP: 25
Hit: 1, 6, 10 and 12
Miss: 2, 5, 8 and 9
Critical Hit: 3, 4, 7 and 11

Wild dogs
HP: 20
Hit: 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12
Miss: 4 and 7
Critical Hit: 2, 5 and 9

Leopards
HP: 25
Hit: 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11
Miss: 1 and 4
Critical Hit: 5, 9 and 12

Cheetahs
HP: 15
Hit: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12
Miss: 3 and 6
Critical Hit: 8 and 11

Rank bonuses only add HP.
Guards get +2 HP
Soldiers get +4 HP
Captains get +5 HP
Majors get +7 HP
Royal Guards get +8 HP
Lt. Colonels get +9 HP
Brigadiers get +10 HP
High Guardians get +10 HP
Guardians get +10 HP

Outsiders participating a rolled duel will use their corresponding species, but will have a -5 HP disadvantage.
Gods participating in a rolled duel will use their current form's species, but will have a +5 HP advantage.

A few characters get a special bonus, on account of RP, continued victory, or rank. If your SoA is eligible for special bonuses, we will notify you! If you think your SoA deserves a special bonus, you may PM Quaji and tell me why, but do not be upset if I disagree. Currently, these are the SoA with bonuses:
Ahali'bagawa/Wei Gang gets +15 HP and a +2 damage added to non-misses
Moto'vianzio/Sheng Kou gets +15 HP and a +2 damage added to non-misses
Hashamal/Xun Lin gets +12 HP

Hybrids who take part in games will be listed below, specifying what stat base they are using!

Racing

Awards: Speed Points (2 for win, 1 for loss)

User Image

Racing is a straightforward game. SoA will challenge each other to see which of them is the fastest! For the most part these races rely purely on speed as they are typically short dashes, not endurance marathons. That said, there is no set distance in a race. This is because of their spontaneous nature; SoA can really just point at a tree and say that's the finish line.

A Quick Guide
• Agree on a length distance or roll for it.
• If distance is rolled, each racer rolls 1, 12-sided dice. Add the two numbers together. If the number is less then 10, add 5 to the total.
• Locate the number range for your character's species. If they are a hybrid, choose one of the species that make up their hybrid to use. Keep in mind this choice is permanent and will effect their duel stats as well.
• Alternate rolls until one character reaches the determined finish line.
• The first person to reach the goal may still lose if the second beats their total in their last roll.

Getting Started
At some point in a roleplay, be this the first post or later on, the SoA will have decided to race. They choose a starting point and a finish line, the distance must be determined. Either both racers may mutually agree on a number to be reached or both racers may roll 1, 120-sided dice and add the two numbers together. If the total is less then 10, add 5 to the total. This determines the lengths of the race.

Racing
In each post after the start of the race, alternating like in any other RP, racers will randomize a number according to the specifications below. Whatever they roll is how many lengths they covered in the post! Once the SoA’s rolls have totaled the lengths of the race distance, they have reached the finish line!

Determining the Winner
So as to not give anyone an advantage for rolling first, if the SoA who started rolling reaches the finish line first, the other SoA may still roll their dice. If they also finish the race in the same roll, the winner is whomever rolled the highest total across all of the rolls. So if the first person to roll beat the race of 20 lengths, finishing at 21 lengths, the second person to roll can still win by rolling and totaling 22 lengths.

User Image

Species Speeds
Now, the specifications. Below you’ll find what you should roll for, based solely on a SoA’s species and the top speeds associated with these species. Cheetahs, for example, have a very clear advantage over… well, everyone, but are reduced to not give them a ridiculously large advantage.
Cheetahs: Roll 3-5
Hyenas: Roll 1-4
Lions: Roll 1-5
Leopards: Roll 2-3
Wild Dogs: Roll 1-4
Hybrids: Use one of their halves.

Special Bonuses
Activity in the pride and in races, as well as the character's rank, may earn your SoA a special bonus. Add these bonuses onto your regular rolls after they are rolled.
Messengers get +1 to their roll
Scouts get +1 to their roll
Rangers get +2 to their roll

Art Show

Awards: Creativity Points (2 for win, 1 for loss)

User Image

This game is definitely most popular with artisans of some sort, but really anyone can play and compete for fun.

A Quick Guide
• Determine any bonuses to their rolls.
• Alternate rolling 1, 10-sided dice. be sure to add any bonuses to each roll for each House they visited.
• The higher total for each House visited wins that set.
• Repeat this until both sides have rolled 5 times.
• The team with the most sets won is the winner.

Getting Started
The general premise of the art competitions is that the SoA participating in the game went on a little tour across the empire, displaying their art for the pride to see. The performers, bards and storytellers, for example, would have performed for crowds, while the painters and crafters would have presented their artwork and crafts to the masses, trading for rare or exotic goods, favors or services. The actual roleplay in which this game takes place in is set after they have returned home, with the artists in question exchanging story about how well they did. To prevent blatant lying (although they may attempt so), there is a general assumption that both teams were at least in part present during all performances/presentations on the tour.

There is to be one stop on their tour in each House of the pride, including the Central House! In each House, the artist present a different work, to explain the major differences in crowd response.

You may have the artists work in teams, but each team must be even in number. Any special bonuses will be applied per member, meaning if you had two famous crafters displaying their wares, you would receive a +8 to your roll.

Determining the Winner
This is another dice-based game! In this game, you are rolling for the popularity or crowd response. Each team will roll 1, 10-sided dice, alternating between them, with each roll corresponding to how well your SoA's art was received in each of the Houses. The order of presentations goes as follows: Center, North, South, West, and East. The game is won in sets. Each House performance or presentation would be a set. So whichever team did better in the North House, for example, wins that set, and so on until all the Houses are recounted. It is a best three of five, so whomever wins the most sets wins the Art Show!

In the event of a tie occurring, thanks in part to humorous dice, the results are quite simply a tie. Participants form both teams may redeem points as though they were winners.

There are no species bonuses, and few rank bonuses, which is why this game doesn't get a stats post. The only rank bonuses are in relation to the popularity. Bonuses are applied to the crowd response roll.

Special Bonuses
Activity in the pride and in art shows, as well as the character's rank, may earn your SoA a special bonus.
Non-artist ranks (this means hunters, guards, etc.) get a -2 on whatever they roll. If they only roll a 2 or a 1, the roll is automatically 1.
Artist ranks (artisan, bard, storyteller, etc.) don't have any bonus of handicap.
Popular artist ranks (popular bard, popular storyteller, popular painter, etc.) get a +2 on whatever they roll.
Famous artist ranks (famous bard, famous storyteller, famous painter, etc.) get a +4 on whatever they roll.
Aristocratic ranks (knight, duke, princess, lady, emperor, etc) get a +3 on whatever they roll.

Debate

Awards: Intelligence Points (2 for win, 1 for loss)

User Image

On occasion, a few members will choose to debate one another on a subject of study. This can vary from medicine, law, history, or philosophy.

A Quick Guide
• Have someone roll a subject to debate. You may choose the subject if no participant has an advantage to it.
• Alternate going back and forth on something about the subject. Roll 1, 4-sided dice per post.
• The first participant to reach 10 points (* # of participants per team) is the victor.

Getting Started
The first step is to determine what subject will be debated. An outsider, typically an observer, who those among them are trying to sway. They will choose this by rolling 1, 4-sided dice. Alternatively, you may choose a field to debate so long as no party involved has an advantage in the subject.

1. Law (Scholar of Law / Magistrate)
2. Medicine (Scholar of Medicine / Doctor)
3. History (Scholar of History / Historian)
4. Philosophy (Scholar of Philosophy / Philosopher)

Determining the Winner
Alternating back and forth, participants will roll 1, 4-sided dice. The first among them to reach 10 points (* # of participants per team) is the winner, having successfully swayed those among them.

Special Bonuses
Activity in the pride and in art shows, as well as the character's rank, may earn your SoA a special bonus.
Non-scholarly ranks (this means hunters, guards, etc.) get a -2 on whatever they roll. If they only roll a 2 or a 1, the roll is automatically 1.
Student ranks (students ) don't have any bonus of handicap.
Scholarly ranks (scholars and teachers) get a +2 on whatever they roll if their subject is rolled. They get a +1 on all others.
Advanced scholarly ranks (doctor, historian, philosopher, magistrate) get a +4 on whatever they roll if their subject is rolled. They get a +2 on all others.
Aristocratic ranks (knight, duke, princess, lady, emperor, etc) get a +3 on whatever they roll regardless of the subject rolled.
