Lake Valor, the home of Azelf the Willpower Pokemon. Darts, Amber, Wren, Deo, and Volo have been ordered to travel here to obtain a gift needed from Azelf to craft the Red Chain. Once on the island at the center of the lake they would find just a massive rock in the center and nothing else. Was Azelf inside? Without an answer to this question a bright flash of light would go off the moment Darts touched the rock and a cave entrance would appear in front of her, allowing her and everyone else entrance.

Once inside they would find a large open room, far bigger than what should be allowable judging by the outside. On the floor was a pool of water spread out in a purposeful pattern, what kept it like this was anyone's guess. Besides that at the center of the cave, floating in the air was, Azelf. It was awake, as if waiting for its guests. Without so much as a cry it unleashed a Psychic attack and threw Darts flying across the room. Looks like it wanted a fight.

It was awake, as if waiting for its guests. Without so much as a cry it unleashed a Psychic attack and threw Darts flying across the room. Looks like it wanted a fight.

Darts had been keeping a close eye on Volo the entirety of making their way towards Lake Acuity. The merchant had given Darts his own personal compass by way of getting him to trust him, and he still didn't. This area could be familiar to Volo or any other number of things and it wasn't the gambler's first hustle. But he had to admit as the group made their way to the lake that there was really nothing to the hunch other than a gut feeling. The Ginkgo guild merchant kept shooting him really intense looks when Darts wasn't looking. The Giratina hybrid was sure of it as constantly whenever he would turn back to meet Volo's eyes the man would turn away, like he was getting caught peeping. Creepy, sure, but nothing that made him an outright combatant. And he did seem to be helping them accurately enough, getting them to the lake and even inside the ruins without any kind of trap springing or ambush waiting for them. Maybe he was fascinated by Darts' historical context? The witch back in the dungeon certainly was, and she had been no real threat.

The wet and dank air of the musty rock they descended down into stunk of mold and undisturbed mildew, growing in the dark for generations. Darts had taken the lead with the intention of intercepting any oncoming threats, but he had made sure Volo followed right behind him in order to keep the guild member from pulling anything shady. As soon as they come into view of the emotional Legend, it's not Volo that's on the hybrid's mind any more. A rush of Psychic energy plucked and hurled him across the chamber, sending him crashing into a solid stone wall with a muffled 'thud'. Dazed, Darts would try to pry himself free of his impact crater only to find a great weight bearing down on top of him from Azelf's impressive mental onslaught. "Damn..." He groans as the pressure threatened to drive the air from his lungs. Thank goodness he didn't need to breathe.

Volo didn't appear to act as surprised as one might think you would be when you just watched your traveling companion just telekinetiallyc thrown into a wall made of rock with enough force to leave a sizable crater in it. Not only that but the attacker was a creature of the most renowned myths, which was exactly what Volo was so focused on rather than Darts' sudden flight. Eyes fixated on Azelf the merchant had the glow of a child who had just walked into a candy store for the first time. This look was different from the one he gave Darts but appeared to come from a similar place, one of absolute fascination in every sense of the word.

Azelf on the other hand was far less spellbound by new faces and just moments after blasting Darts it prepared another attack, this time targeting Volo, pointing its little hand at the human as rainbow colored energy gathered in front of it. Volo was too enthralled to react quickly enough, by the time he realized he was being targeted Azelf had finished charging up its Psybeam. Panicking he started to move to get out of the way, the Psybeam firing off at that same time, the beam of energy splitting into three tendrils in mid-flight, two rotating around the linear one, aiming to drill through its target.

The distraction provided by Volo is enough to give the Giratina hybrid time to free himself, pushing the invisible force up and off of him and springing to his feet with a kip-up. The human was right in the crosshairs of the clearly irascible legend, and he was about to become so much space dust. There wasn't enough time to intercept the attack directly, so Darts turns to his second best path of action.

"Zweilous!" He shouts, the appropriate capsule flying out of his pocket in response, his jacket shrugging the thing out of itself and up into his hand unconsciously. He flicks it out quick as a whip, the blind Dragon appearing in a flash of white light in front of the merchant. He had seen enough Psybeams to know that the Pokemon's natural Dark-typing would be able to absorb and refract the mental energies threatening to skewer Volo. And it does so, the happy and almost unknowing Dragon impacted right in front of the merchant, its dark blue fur absorbing and swallowing up the beam like a singularity.

"Zwei?" It chirps, confusedly. Due to its blindness it hadn't even seen the attack coming, but it trusted its trainer enough by now to hear and obey.

"Sorry bud, no time to explain! Dark Pulse that thing right in front of you!" Darts had taken advantage of the time he had been given from succesfully blocking Azelf's attack and leapt at the legend headlong, footprints of blue fire erupting where he had once stood as he launched himself into midair with a spout of Outrage. His hand pulls back like a corkscrew and he winds more Dragon energy into his extended fingers as gravity brings his trajectory in line with the Azelf, falling to earth with a Dragon Claw that would have made the man who taught it to him guffaw like the sailor he was.

"Zwei!" The two sightless heads chirp as one, looking in the other's direction and nodding before the pair of them begin channeling a viscous blob of energy that refused the entry of any photons, a dark black that seemed to devour the light around itself. One head was on either side of the thing, each mouth emitting more and more Dark-type energy as they prepared the attack.

Azelf didn't seem to respond to, or even acknowledge, its Psybeam being thwarted, instead it focused on the twin dragon entities going on the attack. As if predicting Darts' actions the Psychic Pokemon would teleport away in an instant, Darts' Dragon Claw striking at nothing but air as it executed a well timed Detect. Azelf would appear several feet backwards and to the left of where it was, untouched by Darts. The twin headed dragon however had more than enough chance in that moment to correct its aiming thanks to how quickly Azelf moved and how far apart they were.

The twin blasts of Dark Pulse slammed into Azelf with fierce might, the Psychic having no means of sensing it coming for it. The Willpower Pokemon would let out a pained cry however it did not move from its floating position in the air and after a few seconds of being assaulted by Dark energy it gave off a white glow and unleashed a proverbial meteor shower of small star-shaped disks of energy, the far larger than normal Swift raining down on Zweilous.

Right as the last few stars were leaving its body it turned to Darts, looking from him to the ceiling, eyes glowing as it shattered a chunk of the rocky ceiling and sent rubble from it raining down on Darts.

By this time Volo had just regained his composure, his shock wearing off. Taking off his large backpack he began to fumble around in it, looking for something. That's when he saw Azelf turn its gaze to the ceiling, noting its actions were similar to when they first entered and it blasted Darts. "Look out!" He cried out to the hybrid, pointing at the ceiling. Darts needed help though, now if only he could find that thing.

Deo arrived as the carnage began. Seeing Darts in the air made him ask "How does he do that?". However he saw the thing in front of him, a small thing but it was very powerful. He needed to think and act fast. So he threw out his Onix and prepare for a onslaught

As he let his Onix out, Deo would command it to Rock Throw at this pokemon, who clearly is attacking and might even hurt Deo or his team. Of course, Deo was still wandering why it was so important to fight this pokemon and why it was here and not out in the open.

Amber followed Darts and the others, keeping a discrete eye on Volo as they traveled. Something about the merchant rubbed her the wrong way, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. She didn't speak as Darts opened a hole in the rock face, though an involuntary cry of surprise left her when her teammate was telekinetically thrown into one wall. Looking at Azelf, she could see it hovering, as if waiting for something. Ah, so it wanted a battle. Very well, she could do a battle. She looked up at the sound of Volo's cry to look out, but before she could do anything, a green shield of energy appeared above Darts, preventing him taking damage from the falling pieces of ceiling.

After the debris stopped falling, the shield fell to reveal Arauth floating there, smiling a slightly sinister smile. Amber breathed a sigh of relief; for the first time, the Misdreavus had acted on her own accord, and all to protect a fellow Snagem. Before she could give any commands, Arauth glanced at her, and the look in the Ghost-type's eyes told her she wanted to battle on her own. Nodding understanding, Amber stood back, letting Arauth battle as she saw fit.

Seeing her trainer backing off, Arauth turned her attention back to the legendary floating in front of her. She knew she didn't stand a chance at beating the Psychic-type, even with a type advantage, but she would certainly give it her best shot. So she waited for a moment, gathering her energy, then released a Shadow Ball at Azelf. She knew the Psychic-type would likely teleport to dodge it, but she had something ready for when that happened. She just had to hope it would work the way she wanted it to.

She knew the Psychic-type would likely teleport to dodge it, but she had something ready for when that happened. She just had to hope it would work the way she wanted it to.

Darts had thrown up his hands to try and shield his eyes from the jagged pieces of rock flying downwards at him, only for them to be intercepted by the Misdreavus' shield. "Hoo..." He breathes a sigh of relief, watching the Shadow Ball fly out towards the Azelf and it vanished in a blur, teleporting once again as it usually did. He didn't know Amber very well but from the determined clench of her jaw, the hybrid figured she had some kind of plan. Alright then...

DrachenKaiser2021
Deo arrived as the carnage began. Seeing Darts in the air made him ask "How does he do that?". However he saw the thing in front of him, a small thing but it was very powerful. He needed to think and act fast. So he threw out his Onix and prepare for a onslaught

As he let his Onix out, Deo would command it to Rock Throw at this pokemon, who clearly is attacking and might even hurt Deo or his team. Of course, Deo was still wondering why it was so important to fight this pokemon and why it was here and not out in the open.

The Onix smashed the floor and tossed chunks of projectiles into the air, swatting the boulders with its tail and throwing them at the Azelf who dances away from each one with a Teleport, zig-zagging across the chamber.

Alright then, if Amber had an idea Darts figured he might as well participate. "Zweilous, Assurance! Try and drive Azelf off towards that Misdreavus!"

His blind two-headed Dragon nods, leaping into action and spewing forth a cloud of a very different looking energy than the Dark Pulse earlier. This energy wraps around itself and it dashes forward into action. If the Psychic made contact with the Zweilous, damage would be doubled due to the Assurance's attack. Knowing that the Azelf was guaranteed to try and dodge, Darts picks a different blank section of the cave, off away from where Amber was, and he extends his wings. The two smoky appendages spread out from his back and charge with energy before he slashes them forwards, executing an Aerial Ace at what seemed to be a blank space in the chamber. The gambler was attempting to pre-predict Azelf's movements and drive it in the direction of his fellow Snagems using Deo's Onix's attack and his Zweilous' trajectory to offer the Legend a 'safe space' in the room right near Amber and her Misdreavus.

Amber noticed Darts' Zweilous using Assurance, a Dark-type move that would surely cause Azelf a lot of pain were it to make contact. That being said, she knew the Psychic-type legendary would teleport away, and as she looked at Arauth, she noticed something. The Ghost-type was following Azelf's movements, never taking her eyes from the legendary. What in the world does Arauth have in mind? she wondered. She got her answer when Darts used Aerial Ace, and when she looked at Arauth again, when Azelf would appear near them, she saw a different energy than she'd seen before. Mean Look, she thought, realizing what her partner was doing. Arauth was trying to prevent Azelf from teleporting, so her teammates could get in a few hits. "Arauth is using Mean Look to keep Azelf from escaping!" she called to Darts and Deo. "Try to get in hits while you can!" If Azelf figured out it was Arauth trying to prevent its Teleport, there was a likely chance the Psychic-type would knock the Misdreavus out, just to get rid of the Mean Look effect.

Seeing the opportunity and knowing it would not be long before the pokemon would teleport outta there, Deo knew it was now or never.

"Onix! Rock Slide it!" Deo commanded his pokemon. "Oooon..." the creature bellowed as he got rocks to fall on the legendary. Where the rocks are both big and small and a pebble on top of the pile.

Azelf would do exactly as Darts had predicted, it had teleported out of the way of Zweilous' attack, avoided the area he himself struck with Aerial Ace, and reappeared in the only 'safe' spot in the chamber, directly in the line of sight of Arauth. With no time to avert its gaze from the Misdreavus' own it became locked into Arauth's Mean Look, ghostly energy gripping it and disabling its ability to teleport, at least for now. In this moment it wouldn't be able to move at all, not even physically as it seemed to flinch, that was when Deo and Onix took the chance to send a storm of rocks, the same rocks Azelf had knocked loose earlier, hurtling towards the legend.

One rock would slam into Azelf, then another, the next one it managed to push away with Psychic as it started to get its movement back but it wasn't enough, more rocks came and overwhelmed the Lake Guardian until it was trapped under a pile of rock. Seconds would go by after the last rock fell and silence fell over the chamber, it wasn't over, couldn't be that easy. Any suspicions of Azelf still being in this fight would be confirmed as an explosive wave of Psychic burst forth from the pile of rocks, sending them flying in all directions. Floating in place of the pile was Azelf itself, eyes glowing blue, its body beat up a bit but it still had plenty of fight left in it.

Turning its gaze towards Darts the sprit's eyes would glow even more intense as a wave of psychic energy began to grip the dragon, an unseen force pulling his head around so that his and Azelf's gaze fell upon each other. Darts would find himself staring deep into Azelf's eyes, his own eyes taking on the same glow as the legend's. Slowly the chamber would begin to fade away from Darts' vision as he seemed to fall into Azelf's eyes, the hybrid finding nothing but darkness in there and the Lake Guardian itself. While his body was still in the chamber his mind was somewhere else, being held captive by Azelf.

"Destroy them." Azelf told Darts as he continued to 'fall' into the legend's gaze, its voice echoing in his mind. "Let go and destroy everything." It continued to whisper into his brain as it pulled Darts deeper and deeper into its eyes. The Willpower Pokemon was attempt to enthrall Darts, strip him of his own willpower and turn him into a puppet and the easiest way Azelf was seeing to do this was to provoke his dragonic nature, the Lake Guardian finding within Darts his anger, his rage, his primal lust for destruction. Dark thoughts and feelings bubbling to the surface of the darkness to provoke Darts. All Azelf needed him to do was to let go and unleash his Outrage.

"No! Look away!" Volo cried out to Darts as he noticed the hybrid suddenly staring into Azelf's eyes intensely. "Azelf is the Being of Willpower! It possesses the ability to manipulate the will of others! It's trying to control Darts!" Volo alerted Amber and Deo, warning them of Azelf's plans. If that was what Azelf was doing, and succeeded, there is no way they could stand up to Azelf alone, let alone with a powerful hybrid like Darts under its command. Without further delay Volo would take out one of his 'primitive Pokeballs' and toss it onto the ground, the ball bursting open to release a Togekiss. Positioned in front of Darts but to the left while Azelf was on the far right the Togekiss would hover in place as it awaited a command.

"Use Follow Me!" Volo commanded his Pokemon, the Jubilee Pokemon letting out a happy cry as it began to give off a soft white glow, a tantalizing energy filled with joy and happiness emitting from the Pokemon as it tried to pull Darts' attention towards it instead. "Look at Togekiss, Darts!" Volo called out to Darts. In Togekiss' eyes Darts could find other thoughts, happy ones instead of the rage inducing ones of Azelf's. Good times he has shared with friends, moments of joy he had experienced, some of the best moments of his life were found in Togekiss' gaze, all Darts needed to do was look and yet he would find it extremely difficult to ignore the dark allure of Azelf's.

While not pulling its gaze away the Lake Guardian was well aware of what its enemy was planning and would not allow them to deny it their puppet, Azelf attempting to crush Togekiss with a chunk of rock from the ceiling as the chamber shook, the ceiling beginning to crack as Azelf began to pull a chunk of rock off with its Psychic. Within seconds a large rock would begin to fall down towards Togekiss, threatening to crush it and put an end to its Follow Me.

Amber smiled slightly as Arauth's plan worked. The Mean Look prevented it from teleporting, allowing Deo and his Onix to bury the legendary under a pile of rocks. Amber hoped that would be the end of it, but of course, no battle goes as planned, and a moment later, she raised her arms to shield her face as rocks were sent flying every which way by a psychic explosion. When she looked up, she noticed Azelf focusing on Darts. Oh, that couldn't be good. From what she knew of Azelf, it was known as the Being of Willpower, and from the looks of it, it was trying to control darts through sheer willpower alone.

Seeing Volo send out his Togekiss, Amber nodded in approval. Psychic-type moves wouldn't have all that much of an effect on a Fairy-type, but seeing Azelf beginning to pull a chunk of rock from the ceiling with it's Psychic attack, something happened. Amber gave an involuntary cry of alarm, and as she did, snow and ice spewed forth, aimed directly for Azelf. Wait, what had just happened? Was that Powder Snow? Being so new to being a hybrid, she'd not been able to use any attack moves yet, so this was completely unexpected for her. It took a moment for her to recover from her shock at using a move before she looked at Darts.

She had no idea what was going to happen now. Arauth had gone invisible, then appeared directly behind Azelf, firing a point-blank Shadow Ball at the Psychic-type. While the Ghost-type was doing this, Amber called out to Darts. "Darts, listen to my voice!" she called, putting as much feeling as she could into her words. "You're stronger than this; you can fight it! Azelf doesn't control you; you're one of the strongest people I know. So fight it!" All she could do now was watch, and hope that Darts could overpower Azelf's attempt to take control of him.

Seeing that his attack succeeded in a good way, Deo would give a sigh of relief and would tell his onix, "Good Job there". His feelings of relief would give way into a feeling of dread as he heard some stones falling and realized, this was only the first round.

In the explosion of rock and stones flying every which direction and one even missing Deo's head by a little bit. He saw the legendary rise up, battered and bruised, but alive. "I guess this is round 2" Deo would mutter to himself.

What happened next would startle Deo to the core, seeing this legendary attempt or make good progress to change the will of Darts as he knows him, though he knew him only a little. He would know that interfering by a bull rush would be a disaster. "DARTS!!" Deo would yell at darts, "Control yourself! You can do this! Don't go down the path of darkness and destruction! We need you!"

Up until a few moments ago, Darts had been feeling pretty good about the entire situation - his teammates had coordinated and jumped into his plan and the entire set up had gone exactly as he had predicted. They had sealed away Azelf's ability to move with Teleport and managed to smash it with a highly damaging attack. Pumping his fist in celebration with an affectionate pat on the head for his Zweilous, Darts' celebration was cut short as soon as the rubble shifted and Azelf locked eyes with him. Volo's pleas were lost in the miasma that was roiling through the hybrid's mind as reality faded out for him. Everything was black and all he could hear was that voice. Giratina's presence was enhanced inside him, all around him all of a sudden like he was inside the Distortion World.

You are my weapon.... Finish these interlopers... Embrace your destiny and unleash my destruction on this world...

The other Snagems and Volo would see Darts drop to one knee, staring Azelf full on in the eyes as his wings vanish from the previous Aerial Ace in a puff of smoke. His hands are shaking and trembling, the golden fingers digging scores in the hard rock like putty as he tries to pull himself upright. Some part of his unconscious mind is screaming at him to look away but he can't, all he can hear is Giratina's command pounding against his skull.

Volo's words would fall on deaf ears as the merchant tried to no avail to distract the gambler with his Togekiss. The Snagem wasn't in control of his own actions as he rises upright, turning back towards the group. His head and neck lolls backward at an odd angle, the Azelf keeping his gaze as far away from the Togekiss as possible but there's nothing odd about the stance he was taking - he was preparing to attack. His muscles flex as he prepares to turn the faucet on his Outrage, unleashing that deadly Dragon energy again and sending him into a berserker rage fully. There would be no pleading and no mercy once that steroid started pumping through his muscles.

But instead, something else happens. Breaking through the cacophony of Azelf-induced psychic possession the cheers from Darts' teammates start to ring through. Softly at first, then louder and louder like a radio that's out of tune but slowly came into focus. The intent and belief in him from his team members gives Darts the fortitude he needs and the other Snagems would see his golden hands clench again, his feet digging into the rock again below him as he puts all of his efforts into resisting the Psychic onslaught. A younger Darts would have been easy to manipulate, but this wasn't the Snagem's first encounter with mental trickery and the Legend would feel Darts' mind begin to defend itself, a calming aura spreading across Azelf's control as Calm Mind began fighting off the mental influence thanks to the cheers of his fellow teammates.

"Zwei!" A harmony of barking cries comes from Darts' Zweilous who had been sensing its trainer struggling internally and it cries out - unable to see what exactly was happening to cause its best friend and companion so much distress. There's a brilliant flash that illuminates the cave in an instant, Zweilous' body shifting and morphing as it evolves into Hydreigon in response to Darts' emotional struggle against the Azelf's control.

"Hy... Drei... GONNNNN!" it shrieks, all three heads in unison, as the formerly blind Pokemon roars protectively, hovering over the head of its trainer, the light disappearing as the transformation ends. The walls rumble from the intensity of its volume and the small room begins illuminating once again as the massive tri-headed Dragon-type pulls two of its heads inwards, forming a brilliant ball of white energy floating in midair in the gap formed between them. The bond between trainers and Pokemon are a special one, and the message this attack was going to send was going to be pretty clear:

Get your hands off of my friend.

There's a rolling 'thwoom' sort of sound as the Hyper Beam erupts, intercepting the rock heading for the Togekiss as the angle goes straight through Azelf's would-be projectile and heads straight-on after the unable-to-teleport legendary Pokemon just barely over the top of Darts' crest.

Shock would overcome Azelf at the first tinges of Darts’ resistance, something the Lake Guard had not experienced for several millennia since it had to quell Time and Space with its siblings. Azelf would attempt to exert a little more control over Darts’ will but it was too late, the Giratina hybrid managed to calm the roaring sea of his mind and denied Azelf access. The legend might have tried even harder, and possibly succeeded in the long run, however it would lose its mental hold as a explosion of Dark energy swept across the room as Zweilous evolved into Hydreigon, the large presence of Dark energy in front of Darts making it difficult for Azelf to quickly regain its grip on the hybrid and thus the Psychic was thoroughly cast out.

Next came the Hyper Beam which would blast right through the falling rock, shattering it into mostly harmless pieces which rained down on Togekiss, only bothering it slightly. The beam would continue on its chosen path, its ending destination being Azelf itself. The Lake Guardian would not have time to physically move out of the way, its teleport disabled, nor could it muster up enough psychic force to redirect the beam thus it would slam into the tiny creature with all its might and carry it with itself into the cave wall behind it. Azelf and the Hyper Beam would connect with the wall with a devastating explosion of energy, sending debris flying throughout the cave. Volo wincing and recalling his Flying Pokemon, just in case a bigger rock came at it but fortunately the ejected pieces were small.

Once the dust settled the group would find Azelf discarded in one of the cave’s puddles, unmoving as it appeared to be knocked out. Almost a minute would pass, rapidly convincing some that it was indeed knocked out, before there was any movement. Azelf would stir a bit before using just its psychic power to lift itself off the ground, the Lake Guardian revealed to be battered and bruised as it floated in the air. The sprite would then raise on hand, giving off a cool blue glow, and for a moment some might believe it was preparing to attack again, such as Volo who involuntarily recoiled. However no attack came, instead four orbs of blue light would appear in front of Azelf and slowly float towards the human and hybrids in its cave, the orbs stopping in front of each of them.

“A gift, fragments of my Mystical Power. Have one of your Pokemon touch them to evolve.” It simply stated telepathically. Azelf would say nothing else until the orbs were gone, his stare intense. Once they were, the legend would speak again. “You have shown the strength of your willpower, your ability to persevere in the face of uncertainty, all of you have passed my test.” Azelf speaks to their minds, just a hint of indignation in its ‘voice’. “Here is what you seek, that of which is needed to forge the Red Chain, my fang.” With that said a flash of light would go off and a tooth would appear in front of Darts, floating in midair, waiting for him to take it. “Now go, you have what you need. I shall return to my sleep to await greater challenges in the future.” It almost huffed. Kind of rude, wasn't it?
