User ImageYejide stretched as she woke from a nap, the sun lower in the sky now that she'd killed a few hours resting. She wasn't far from her pack but she was far enough in the rogue lands that no scent of her home remained, the only indicator that she wasn't completely out of range of a warning howl were the trees off in the distance. She'd had a strange vision a few days prior, one unlike she'd ever had before, and she was intent on investigating it. She'd informed her siblings - the other house leaders - of where she'd be going and to listen for a call for aid just in case this vision turned out to be someone that meant her harm, though something told her that wasn't the case. Still, she didn't want to potentially face this alone and knowing her siblings and house were waiting for the call for help made her more confident.

Grabbing a quick drink from the small pond by the tree she'd rested under, Yejide began to walk quietly and slowly towards the spot her vision had taken place in. It had been a simple one, not involving strategy or battles. There'd only been a dark male wild dog with bright markings walking alone. A vision like that on its own wouldn't have bothered her much but it was the feeling she woke with that made her wonder why this vision had been so different. When Yejide had finally come back from the trance she'd been in, her chest had ached with familiarity and a strange sort of pain she'd never felt before, almost yearning for the male despite never having seen him before. She'd spoken with her siblings about what it could mean and eventually she came to the conclusion that it might be he was a great warrior, one that she needed in her house to better protect the pack.

She couldn't be sure though, which is what led her to cautiously approach a rocky ledge she'd seen in her vision. The male would walk by it soon if the position of the sun was right, so she climbed up and laid down, her two-tone pelt helping her to blend in. Now all she had to do was wait.

So. His goal of becoming a Night within his pack was thwarted, by the very pack he was born into disbanding. He'd spent much of his life preparing and studying to take on the role. Tending to the birth of new ones into the world seemed like a safer job for him to be doing. Free from the brutal visions when he touched anything dead. Someone fresh to the world, with no backstory, could not give him the nightmares that the dead sometimes had bestowed upon him as he grew up into the hardened adult he now was. But he could never stay away from death for very long. He who had no friends and found comfort in the presence of anything, even the old corpses of those who had once been breathing. At least he had long since given up on talking to the dead, realizing just how creepy that might have looked to others who caught him.

Now he was just walking and roaming. Not necessarily looking for a place to call his own. Just....wandering. There was a lot of ground to cover in the roguelands. More than he'd expected when he first was forced into it. He'd never left his birth pack's lands. He'd just went far enough he was still inside the invisible safety of the walls while also ensuring he was alone to study. He'd even coaxed a small, injured klipspringer doe who had lost her family and was so close to labor, that he would not harm her but wanted to help her. To practice on something of lesser value to his packmates. He'd helped her find a safe spot, even bringing her bits of greens so she could stay off her wounded leg as much as possible. He offered his body to lean on when she'd had her baby, to let it suckle. She was his patient for a time, until her wounds healed and she left him. He would never forget her scent, in case they should ever meet again when his intentions might be less than kindly.

But that was a very long time ago, now. And very far away. He wasn't really sure where he was going. Just wherever his paws were taking him. It had been a nice adventure so far, albeit an uneventful one. Aside a few completely scavenged corpses that he'd decided to honor and bury, not much had happened.

It turned out Yejide didn't have to wait long for her vision to become a reality. A dark figure stood out against the brown plains as she scanned the area and it caused her to stiffen, her ears turning forward, nose twitching. Definitely a wild dog from the scent alone, and as the figure drew closer his shape was easily made out. He didn't seem to be in a hurry, just as she'd seen in her vision, and with each step that drew him closer Yejide's heart beat a little faster. What was his purpose to travel this way? Why had her vision made her react so emotionally towards him?

Finally the male drew within speaking distance. Yejide stood, holding her position upon the rock - she couldn't let go of her strengths and keeping the advantage should this turn into a fight was certainly one of them - as she called out to him.

"You there! What brings you this way? You are heading close to pack territory." It was as good an excuse as any to get him to stop and talk, she had decided. While her home wasn't hostile they didn't appreciate rogues coming and going from their lands, just as any other pack or pride would say.

The wind ruffling his fur, bringing with it the mixed scent of animals from somewhere behind him, Manahem continued on his slow walked. Somewhere along the way, the terrain had changed, become more forest. Last he had remembered, there had been a lot of open space around him. Had he been so far in his reminiscing that he had missed when the land around him had shifted? It was very possible. He had gotten lost in his thoughts many times before. When your mind was the constant companion you had for most of your life, you tended to get lost in it a lot and suddenly you were in a forest instead of clear grassland.

He stopped for a moment to look about him, making mental notes of the land. Raising his muzzle to sniff at the wind to catalogue what kinds of animals were roaming just out of sight. Nothing too big out this way. At least behind him. As for what he might be walking into, well...He'd just have to wait and see.

Or maybe not? The sound of the voice in the opposite direction to where he was looking made both his ears snapped back, his head following suit a bit slower. For a moment, he scanned the rocky ledges until his eyes spied the half brown, half white wild dog perched above him, calling out to him with obvious suspicion.

"Am I? I am sorry. I was just wandering aimlessly." Looking around him for a few seconds, he started to turn back where he had come, his green eyes snapping back to the other canine. "I can turn back if you'd prefer, since I have no purpose."

Yejide watched as the male stopped and turned to look for her, scanning the area until his eyes caught hers. She stood still and tall, unafraid despite her pounding heart. What was it about this male...

His apology and offer to leave made her snort softly. No purpose? Hardly. She wouldn't have had a vision about him if he had no purpose.

"Nonsense," she said, tail swishing behind her as she calculated the jump she was about to make. Yejide planned the path before moving, hopping from ledge to outcropping to the ground, bringing her level with the male. She kept her ears up and her posture tall, indicating her confidence but also her curiosity.

"Everyone has a purpose, even if you don't think you have one for being here. Our pack is not aggressive, strangers are welcome so long as they don't start any trouble."

Manahem remained where he was, standing relaxed with his tail still around his hind legs. He also felt no fear. Hadn't experienced it for much of his life. He had the kind of confidence that came from a more sheltered life. The pack he had been born into had been peaceful. Most of his travels had also been peaceful, only broken up by the meeting with the near dead cheetah. That was the most harrowing thing that had happened in his life. He had nothing to believe this dog would harm him.

"I mean your pack no harm." Mana wasn't sure about what she said about his having a purpose. He still didn't feel like he did. Unless his paws knew where he was going before he did, that was all he was doing. Following wherever his feet took him. "My name is Manahem. I guess I've come a very long way. My surroundings have long since stopped looking familiar to me."
