Summer had turned into autumn, but it seemed Western Weyr missed the announcement. The days, though growing shorter, were still quite warm and the nights mild, which meant it was perfect beach weather as far as El'rix was concerned. While the ocean waters were cooling down, they weren't unpleasant, and the Harper enjoyed spending as much time soaking up the sun as he was allowed.

Unfortunately, Valdivianth wasn't nearly as keen as his rider to wile away their free time on the beach. While the blue dragon could appreciate a good bath, and even enjoyed a swim now and then, it took an awful lot of convincing, begging, pleading, and bribery for the dragon to give into his riders wishes. Today, though, was a rest-day, which meant El'rix had the strongest opportunity to strong-arm his dragon into a beachday... Or, as he compromised, a beach afternoon.

Their morning had consisted of a solid flight around the High Reaches mountain range, and some focus on some trickier aerial maneuvers, followed by some work on his new set of riding straps. It was hardly as restful as El'rix would have preferred, but it kept his blue from getting too high-strung about being idle. It was an easy compromise for the Harper.

Settled against a palm tree, with the ocean waves lapping up idly against the sand, El'rix was feeling pretty good about the rest of the afternoon. He'd packed a basket full of goodies to snack on, a few skins of water, and a bottle of Black Sands rose wine to enjoy as he saw fit. He'd join Valdivianth in the water later--but for now, was more than happy to sit back and play on his pipes. The later afternoon hour meant the crowds had diminished from where they had been that morning, but he had every hope and intention to kick back, relax. He was in no rush, and was quite certain he'd stay camped out well past sundown.

Valdivianth, for his part, was trundling down to the shore for a swim. He would request his to join him later--but for now, a swim would at least be good exercise. While his wiled away his afternoon, Validivianth would make sure to keep himself in most-excellent condition. This wasn't meant to be a leisure trip for the blue, after all.

C'tyl was quite certain he could work himself to the bone, if he so chose. There was never a lack for work at the Weyr, and he could have easily buried himself in a dozen tasks without pause. Burnout, however, was inexcusable. To be at his best, he carefully balanced work and (he'd never call it play) rest. Besides, he'd never strain Shillouroth past her capacity, and the green's tendency to silently worry herself into a tizzy over perfection meant he firmly enforced these resting periods. He'd already sent his beloved on ahead, walking towards the beaches. While he wasn't a man that actively sought out company, he'd grown accustomed to relying on his fellows.

The small, round green spotted her brother before she began her descent, and a quick look around allowed her to pinpoint his rider's location, as well. With that in mind, she was careful to set herself down where the wind whipped up by her wings blast him with sand. Carefully, she made her way into the water as well, welcoming the pleasant sensation as it lapped against her soft hide. Valdivianth. She greeted cordially, careful to keep the warmth that welled in her hearts from coloring her tone. She was extremely fond of her siblings and always would be, but guarding her hearts was important.

Having received a heads up for Shillouroth, C'tyl didn't hesitate to nod a greeting to El'rix once he arrived. Shall I stay with you? The green paused, twisting her head to glance back at her rider. No, love. Have a swim and enjoy yourself. The extra exercise was always helpful to keep his darling from growing a little too round.

"Slacking again?" He asked his fellow rider dryly. "Careful, or you really will be the laziest pair in the Weyr." As though that blue of his would ever allow that.

Valdivianth had just popped up from an impressive dive (it was more of a hard flop, to any onlookers) when he spotted his green clutchmate waddling down to the beach. The dragon would have otherwise ignored her, and focused on his own swimming, when she reached out to greet him. He wouldn't have ignored her out of a sense of cruelty or meanness--he just wasn't the world's most sociable blue. That she did reach out in greeting did change his course--he would not ignore her, and even sent her a wave of familial fondness.

Shillorouth. A good day for a swim, isn't it? He asked, sinking back down beneath the water so he might swim against the waves and currents. For all that he was treating this as a way to exercise, even Valdivianth couldn't deny the pleasure he got from the activity. Just because it was work didn't mean it had to be unpleasant.

El'rix paused in his music, setting the pipes to the side, when C'tyl approached. His easy-going smile welled up at the others words, and he gave a lackadaisical shrug of his shoulders in response. "By lazy, you mean energy efficient. Need to conserve it for Sweeps and Drills and other activities--you're welcome to join me if you'd like a lesson in enjoying ones restday. I've heard I'm a pretty good teacher." That was the whole reason his Master's had let him walk the tables, after all.

Shillouroth's eyes whirled steadily with no small amount of pleasure at the greeting, allowing herself to respond with her own reserved brush of affection to her brother. Her family was always first in her hearts, and Valdivianth had always been a wonderful example of drive and focus. Yes, Shillouroth certainly had no critique for how her brother represented himself, the clutch, and the Weyr. Indeed. The weather is lovely. She waded into the water, tucking her wings tightly to her side.

The man snorted quietly with amusement, not hesitating to fold his legs and ease himself down next to El'rix. "Is that so? I'll be the judge of that." His eyes wandered over those pipes for a moment. He couldn't carry a tune to save his life, but he certainly appreciated music. If El'rix thought he could help him 'enjoy one's restday' as he so blithely put it, he wasn't about it to turn it down.

See? Already not overworking himself.
