This was her home, Nuru ya Maisha thought as she surveyed the land. She had traveled a long way to find some sort of peace in her life and Okuphelele was what she found. The traditions were different then what she was used to, but she didn't question them. Right now it was just best for her to blend in and not upset the status quo. Now that she found peace, she was now about to let it go.
She walked around, away from the heart of the pride. The sun was going down and the cool breeze pushed the tall grass. She found a rock and laid down on it. After a day of hunting it was nice to find a spot as calming as this, she thought.
In the distance she could see hunting parties return with their catches. Lions and wild dogs working together to bring down prey. Some work in perfect harmony when they hunted. It was something Nuru was a little jealous of when she first arrived, but eventually understood after she learned that pairs were bound to each other and closer to each other then they were to their mates. Before she found Okuphelele she would never imagine trusting another creature that much, let a lone a lion. But the pride members made it work.
And eventually she would also be expect to find her 'other half'. She wondered if that would ever actually happen.
