The Summer Solstice
Elders tell tales from their elders’ elders, stories of a time when reality and magic collided and the fabric of existence wore so thin that they were able to cross into another world beyond their own. This forgotten realm was said to be ruled by a magic that pervaded it so deeply it even ran through the veins of those born among the lands. Those elders passed on wild tales of glowing fruits and whispering trees, of eternal twilight and endless fields. They spoke and others listened and smiled, thinking it a magnificent tale of fancy. For a hundred years these tall tales trickled down from mouth to mouth, becoming myth among mortals even while the Stonehenge stood tall and true for all to see.
Now, those hundred years have passed and today is the summer solstice, an end and a beginning. On this, the longest day, sunlight threatens to burn away twilights shadow. But... Eventually the sun sets, and the magic will be free to sing again.
The Thorn Circle
At a place on the edge between the crystal forest and the silver wood is a clearing that lacks the towering trees that the forest is so known for. In place of those stalwart guardians grow dark, wild brambles, far and vast, that are tipped with thorns and so dense that not even a field mouse could crawl between the prickly vines. This bramble patch is an impassable hedge that forces travelers to give it a wide berth for most of the year; the only two inhabitants of this area are two elder Peryton that are always waiting, watching, and guarding it against outsiders. They may put up with a little passive curiosity, but even if the brambles weren’t all but impassable they won’t allow anyone to even try.
The outsider’s journey into Irithyll begins here when, twice a year, the full moon travels into the perfect position across the twilight sky and casts a large, brilliant sphere of light down upon the inky brambles that they quickly spread away from. Not only does the thorny field exist on the cusp between crystal forest and silver wood but, too, it exists on the cusp of the veil and the mortal realm. As mortals enter from the Stonehenge they arrive here, at the heart of the circle of thorns. These otherwise ordinary brambles almost seem to move at the corner of the eye, crawling across one another like worms when seen out of the peripherals, but appear perfectly ordinary up close. At the head of the circle, leading out into the silver wood, is a thin pathway giving safe exit (or entry) through the thorns. During this time of the year mortals may enter and inhabitants of the veil may leave; while the gate of reality stands open the Peryton are at peace, letting travelers come and go as they wish.

Leaving the Veil
Can creatures from Kells enter the Veil?
Anyone can step through the Veil, but only an Ethereal can cross into Irithyll without restriction. Its gateway responds only to the pure and living Ethereal blood, and will reject all others; no exceptions. Because of this, mortal inhabitants of Kells are magically blocked from passing into the realm beyond the Veil by an invisible, wall-like barrier, unless an Ethereal is willing to speak on their behalf. In doing so, the Ethereal becomes their guide, and in many ways becomes responsible for the mortal’s future actions.
What happens if a wolf from either side gets stuck in the wrong realm after the Veil closes?
The Veil is a gateway with two known keys: one is that of the Ethereal, their blood a unique footprint upon its threshold, while the other is time. Time is the skeleton key, the one who can open and close the gates at will… and when time runs out, creatures become temporarily bound to the plane in which they are left inhabiting. Until the following cycle can release them, Ethereals and mortals succumb to similar fates only… on opposite ends of reality.
Ethereals who remain in Kells become, in many ways, mortals themselves. They are temporarily stripped of their powers, cannot create families with their fellow Ethereal kind, and cannot return home until the gates reopen. Once they have returned, all facilities that were lost will be restored… unless they have stayed away too long. If the connection with Irithyll is not restored within a year, the Ethereal’s magic will weaken until it fades away completely.
Alternatively, mortals locked within the land of Irithyll quickly become overwhelmed by it’s alien beauty and fall into a pure, chaste state. Until the Veil is reopened, these individuals are too enamored with the realm itself and lose all desire to procreate within it. If they dwell too long beyond the Veil, the slower passage of time in Irithyll will begin to stretch their lifespan - they may return to find that many years have passed in what seemed like only moments.
gaia_star You need an Ethereal guide to enter the Veil. You do not need one to leave. All Irithyll blood may enter and leave without an ethereal.

 Two ethereals have made the Thorn Circle their home since the veil lifted. Sylas and Sariah await for the return of Liss, but have offered to guide any species entry into Irithyll or to exit into Kells. If you can not find an ethereal guide to exit Irithyll, please post either Sariah or Sylas’ name as the guide. You do not need to message Pandorus Sphinx or KasaiLoki for permission.
