It was only just the one trader, dearheart, Zultoloth said, in a - presently failing- attempt to reassure her rider.

"No, it wasn't just the one. He was... speaking for the rest." That Ky'ra was certain of. Well. She'd managed to keep her hair, but the scars on her face were positively ghastly. And now her usual contacts didn't want to do business with her. Caught between anger, tears, and angry tears, Ky'ra had settled on pacing pensively. Could she help it if she was a dragonrider of Pern? She had a duty, and she could not shirk that duty just to keep up her appeal as a model.

Even if it hurt... more than a little bit... to be turned away for the first time in her life. So what if she couldn't afford the Turn's End gifts she'd planned for her family, or the courting gift she'd hoped to buy for Kiri? Did any of it really matter, in the end? She... she could do something else. She was still a wingrider, with a wingrider's salary. Surely she could scrape something together. But oh, her wounded pride!

It was a rest day for the weyrlings, and Kiri had decided to try make a few calls on some friends. She had always been a sociable being, and much preferred to be with others than without. Now that she had Felisath, Kiri found she much preferred to be with Felisath--a sentiment, she was sure, shared by all riders. If her green had her way, there would be no one else in their little world or circle--and some days, that was just fine.

But deep in her heart, Kiri knew her beloved needed to get better comfortable in crowds and around strangers. The green still shied away from the males of the Weyr, and while she had come to an uneasy tolerance of some of her clutchmates, the little green still vastly preferred to be far from their company. Thankfully, today, the brown-haired girl was bringing the not-so-little green to a place she could more-or-less be at ease.

"Might you see if Ky'ra's free?" She finally asked, leaning forward to wrap her arms around her dragon's head and plant a little kiss upon her nose. Time had certainly made all the dragons grow--Kiri could hardly believe it. Her little green was now quite large--though not nearly as large as some of her sisters. Kleoth and Leoth were massive in comparison, but so were some of the other greens. The dragon leaned into the touch, and though a twinge of yellow could be seen near the edges, the dragon's eyes quickly washed to blue.

Ky'ra and Zultoloth were better than, say, C'ryn and Aresoth--though neither had seen much of the latter since they Impressed-- or some of the other boys. If Zultoloth and she are busy, might we find Yaguareth's and Hers? Or Kleoth's? Or another sister of mine? She quietly asked, hopeful that she might get time with some of her more favored sisters. Negoncath and Pallath were high on the little green's regard, and though Kiri would have no trouble seeking any of them out, either, she did wish to check on her friend.

"We'll try to find one of them later, all right? I promise." Kiri assured ever sincerely. She wouldn't deny Felisath anything, even if she often had to drag the poor darling out somewhat against her will. She let the pride and fondness for her most-perfect dragon flood their link, which helped ease any of the green's worry.

Tentatively, ever so shyly, the little green sought out Zultoloth. H-hello, Zultoloth? ... Mine is wondering if... if Yours might not mind a visitor? If you're busy, we understand! She added hastily, not wanting to impose upon the queen's company or patience. There might have been equality in Western Weyr, but Felisath instinctively knew her place.

Mr Cheri
I realize I wasn't sure where Ky'ra is-- so I figured I'd buy some time and still tag you. LOL

Quickly, Zultoloth answered for Ky'ra, even if the young woman might have wished some more time alone to cope with the change in her lot. We would be pleased to have company, she said encouragingly. Along with the thought, she sent an image of where they were, out in a secluded corner of the Weyr bowl. Ky'ra often retreated to this place when she needed some time alone.

Not that Zultoloth intended to allow her that. "Zul!" Ky'ra protested, scrubbing at her eyes. "Kiri doesn't need to know about any of this!" and there was no way, no way that Ky'ra was going to be able to completely conceal her distress. Not after crying furiously for several minutes. Oh shards, why hadn't they been able to dodge that Thread? ... A small part of her knew, deep down, that the trader should have accepted her as she was, but what did that matter when she was now quite... markless?

Felisath shared the location with Kiri, relieved that the older gold didn’t reject her inquiry. They welcome our company. She relayed to her rider, reaching out so she might tenderly get a moments affection before they would be off.

Kiri didn’t hesitate. She wrapped her arms about the dragon’s head, gave her nose a little kiss, and her cheeks a little caress. The love she felt for Felisath had never wavered. In fact, it had only grown stronger. She had once thought of leaving the Weyr behind, of going back to her old craft, and perhaps bonding with a feline. But now, Felisath was here, and never, in a million Turns, would she think of leaving again. This was their home, and she had every intention of ensuring their lives were nothing but full of love and happiness. Shinnikan’s life had been cut short, as had her parents--so Kiri had every intention of ensuring their lives were full to the brim. There would be no regrets for either of them.

After a moment of soaking up Felisath’s love, and returning it in kind, the young woman grudgingly parted. She looped her arm fondly around the green’s neck, and gave it a pat. “Well then, sweetie, shall we? Best not to keep them waiting.” The green’s eyes whirled a yellow-blue, though the blue was more or less dominant.

It didn’t take long to find Ky’ra and Zulototh. From a distance, nothing looked amiss, and she waved in greeting. “Ky’ra, Zulototh,” she called out brightly. But as the young woman bridged the distance between them, she did notice that something seemed off. Ky’ra didn’t quite look herself, with puffy cheeks and watery eyes. “... You all right? What happened?” She asked, her concern great enough to caused Felisath’s eyes to whirl faster, and croon in alarm.

The green, greatly worried, turned her yellow-white eyes up to the much-larger gold. Is Yours going to be alright? Mine is worried. Should we not have come? Oh dear, what could have happened between the time she’d received the message and now?
