Blackwater gulped. In between matches, he had watched Forbidden Oath at work. She seemed practically unstoppable in the spars today, and now somehow he had to survive her onslaught, win or lose. It had been weird enough going up against the alpha of the Iron Hides, but to pick a fight with one of the wolves that had helped his mother with their litter...It was another layer of dislike on top of the cake of Dislike This that today had become.

A small part of him pointed out that he had done pretty well so far himself. He argued Snow Rabbit had been holding back, just like Big Bad had. Back to square one.

He'd tried not to take too much of the herbal mixture for his headache before the fight, but the smaller dose left him with just enough of a sting to make him want to close his eyes against the light. No turning back now, though. Blackwater looked apologetic as they squared up, but he barely missed a beat when the round started and pounded the dirt beneath his paws. Bite the bullet and all that.

Forbidden Oath was on a roll, and she wasn't sure she liked it. She wasn't a fighter by any means, but she could hold her own. Being small and agile helped, after all, and someone had to train Big Bad when he was a small child. It wasn't as if the Caretaker was useless, and it showed.

But it also meant she was slipping.

Her own frustrations never slipped. She remained a mysterious and supportive ghost to her pack which no one could actually pinpoint emotionally. Strife had, for lack for a better word, shook her, and it left a bad taste in her mouth. She was better than that -- she was calmer than that.

Blackwater, however, was young. He hit hard in the moment, but Oath found no issue rolling away after contact and delivering her own body slam to his legs, intent on her age old trick; knock them to the ground. He was easy to read, for now, and Oath was determined to not let her thoughts get the best of her.

His intent had been to latch onto her and then hope for the best, but Forbidden Oath was more seasoned than that. He found himself slammed onto the ground and yelped as the pinprick in his temple temporarily exploded into a bright white light behind his eyelids. Blindly he scrabbled to find purchase on the ground, the world turning a few times until he wobbled back onto his legs and withdrew. One eye pressed shut against the pain as Blackwater began to slowly circle again, more wary about just leaping in again at random.

Damn it. Please don't tell him Dad or his siblings were watching...

Oath was alarmed by what had just happened. She knew he suffered from headaches -- was he experiencing one right now? Oath stepped back, feigning getting herself back together. Had she gone too far?

No, no, no. Not again. He couldn't keep just defaulting to giving up because of a stupid headache, could he? Blackwater felt his own frustration begin to bubble up inside and clenched his teeth for a moment. It made him want to forget the sit back and wait thing and just attack without thought, and he almost did. But that wasn't fair to Forbidden Oath; she had been nothing but patient while he was growing up.

So he turned it into a feint instead, moving one way before lurching the other to try and blindside. If it didn't work on her, he was pretty sure he'd get blindsided instead at this rate.

For a moment Oath smiled. She had been there while he grew, helping along the way as an experienced Caretaker. The Blackwater she knew was a good boy, but a troubled one. Self-doubt radiated through him as if it was an aura itself and Oath watched as his headaches overcame him. There was something about Seer blood, she thought, that seemed more like a curse. Red lived in nightmares she didn't wish to repeat, Blackwater drowned in headaches.

Yet, Blackwater did something that surprised her; he pushed through. She had seen it, momentarily. The pain had built up and for just a moment he faltered. She would have won, and with guilt attached, had he not suddenly blossomed. Her ears perked and a smile rose before he made contact, knocking her down against the ground.

It hurt, and she was sore from her previous battles. She was tired, and more then that she was swelling with pride. The boy who thought he had nothing was standing before her, shining, and she didn't want to fight against the light he allowed to show. Instead, she sighed heavily, laying on the ground tiredly with a groan of defeat.

"I'm so proud of you," she hummed, locking eyes on him. It was clear she was done fighting and ready to rest and tend to her bruises, but her tail thumped gently behind her. What a good boy.

Blackwater Raptor fell over with her with the momentum, and he groaned after impact, momentarily senseless to his win. It would come later.

Right now, he heard the word proud, and that felt more important. He bashfully looked away after a moment, but his tail thumped weakly in response. The second fall wasn't quite as blistering as the first, but his head still throbbed despite the victory. It didn't seem to matter as much in that moment.
