A crisp, Autumn morning heralded a harsh winter. The chill that permeated the air was telling sign; and yet, Sweet Pea couldn't bring himself to worry. Surely this winter would be harsh, worse maybe than any he'd experienced before, but as the sun crept upon the horizon thoughts of snow were pushed back. For the time being the grass was still as fat and green as ever making the shortening days all the more worthwhile.

Of course he missed the spring; it was his favorite season, after all. In his youth he would have spent hours scouring the lush scenery, but Sweet Pea's adventures had taken a more domestic turn as of late. Depending on his partner's schedule he may take a longer flight than usual, but more often than not Sweet Pea would be at Dimitri's side, happy as ever. It had been beyond wonderful to share the spring with his lover, as well as the summer, and now that fall was upon them Sweet Pea found himself with high expectations.

He'd never thought of himself as someone who could settle down, let alone anyone that someone else would want to settle down with. And yet, there was Dimitri. At first Sweet Pea hadn't expected Dimitri to last the spring, but then summer came to pass and now, with the leaves turning a thousand shades of scarlet, Sweet Pea found himself horribly optimistic. It wasn't even their first fall, either! Wasn't that just crazy?

Their love seemed real, which was something of a novel experience for him, and one he found himself testing on a near daily basis. At first he would constantly ask Dimitri if he was sure, told he he could leave when he wanted, and generally just didn't take it seriously.

But, that worry never stopped Sweet Pea from getting closer to the kirin, and he was beyond glad he had. Every night he got to fall asleep next to Dimitri was a guaranteed dream, with each morning being a true blessing. He'd never known that sort of closeness before; the ability to trust so whole heatedly in someone else. Even if he didn't realize it Dimitri had set Sweet Pea free, and being the loving partner he was, Sweet Pea liked to spoil him for it.

Such as bringing a loaded basket full of morning goodies straight home for breakfast. He trotted as happily across the dew crested ground, wings tipped out just enough to keep his balance as Sweet Pea crossed a couple gnarly roots.

The way the leaves smelled as they decayed into nutrients for the earth was a welcoming scent to the Kirin, the chill in the air was a sign that winter wasn't far behind the changing colors. He was alright with that though, Autumn and Winter were undoubtedly his two favorite seasons. It hadn't been long since Dimi had crossed paths with Sweet Pea, but there was something about the Stallion that made him hang around, and not just for romantic reasons either. He truly cared for him and would do anything for the winged male and was honestly surprised he hadn't taken flight on him during the past two seasons, but here they were, an unlikely pair.

He wondered if it was too soon in their life to contemplate the future. Dimi was much more of a dreamer than Sweet Pea, but it was understandable given his upbringing. There wasn't a thing in the world that would budge him from his companions side, that much he knew. Well, except death, but that was far off in their lives, hopefully.

Taking in a deep breath the male had compiled a small bouquet of sticks, flowers, leaves and twine. It was crude, but still lovely in it's own way. He had felt like doing something nice for him as a just because.

Tossing his mane a bit he made sure he was looking as presentable as he could be and he danced off to find the pale stallion with vibrant wings. Knowing he shouldn't have gone too far from where they had rested for the night he couldn't help but feel the fluttering of his heart in his chest as he sought him out to bring him the gift he'd made.

Sweet Pea's crunching steps made a path through the autumnal forest. He was usually so careful about where he stepped, but underneath the shedding maple trees, so laden with falling leaves, what was he to do? It wasn't as if he was the only one being outed by the season, though; he could hear a pair of little field mice scurrying pace, hurriedly moving away from the larger stallions hoof falls. It was a little disconcerting, actually; how was he supposed to know if they were under the next leaf or not? The urge to take off and fly was on him, but if he did that it would be harder to find Dimitri.

So, with a little huff, he kept on.

When he finally caught the blue of his lover's scale Sweet Pea had already picked up his pace. He would have called out to the other stallion if he'd been able to, instead, he hoped the bouncing basket was enough of a give away. Sidling up to the other stallion, Sweet Pea sat the offering of goodies by Dimitri's hooves with a grand smile. "Morning, starshine! Thought you might be hungry." Of course the excitement of seeing Dimitri was taken over by curiosity. It seemed he wasn't the only one bearing gifts, "What'cha got there?"

HE IS SO ******** PRECIOUS, worrying about the little mice :sobs:

Great minds think alike, at least that's how the saying probably went, he wasn't entirely certain. His beloved also had something in his possession and he was truly delighted that they had each done something for one another without any sort of previous coordination. If this wasn't love, then what was?

More than aware of the mouthful of sticks and other plants he offered up the bouquet by placing it as Sweet Pea's feet, careful to make sure he didn't crush any of the flowers in the process. "I made you something, we can always dry it out so it keeps for a long time as well, so it's like an everlasting sort of present." His voice was a little softer than he would have thought it would have come out, why was he nervous around him still. It was probably because he still couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that he was his and they were each others.

Looking down at the basket of goodies his smile widened, "That was very thoughtful of you. Are you hungry as well? There is a very lovely spot I found that would be nice to sit and eat at." Sorta like a nice picnic ordeal, it would be nice to just enjoy the scenery and spend time with him, even if neither of them ate very much.

Sweet Pea's chest swelled with love. Honestly, who wouldn't be overjoyed with getting a gift this sweet? He didn't think he'd ever get over being treated so kindly after such an unforgiving past. The stallions smile, already broad as the horizon, brightened considerably. "I would love that! I want to keep them forever." He sidled closer, just enough so that he could nuzzle his love's muzzle without harming the treasure at his hooves.

"Oh no, I'm fine, I ate on the way over." Though, the not so subtle side eye he gave to the basket betrayed him. " I might just...take a bite or two, once you're done." After all, he'd traveled just a long way this morning, and while he had snacked along the way, flying was hard work.

When he looked back to the flowers Sweet Pea noticed the little mice scurry past. The pair took a moment to look over their basket, but something about the sight of two much larger creatures standing guard over it sent them moving onward. One mouse, however, stopped briefly to look over it's shoulder and, once it was deemed safe, a few smaller mice came running over to the pair. He instantly looked to Dimitri and bit his lower lip. "I have never seen anything that small or that cute in my life." Spirits above, if he'd had a hard time tracking the parents, then what about the babies? He wouldn't even have felt them if he had stepped on them!

"Do you think Flutter foals are that small? What happens if they lose one?"
