Weyr life wasn't easy. Oh, sure, it was nice having a steady place to sleep and warm food in your belly, but the whole chain of command.... Well, J'chre was used to following one man, and one man only. Now, he was supposed to listen to whoever they decided was above him in rank and pray that he didn't get killed in the process. It still didn't sit well with him, though he'd managed to avoid making any major waves so far.

Chewing absently on a pastry he'd snagged for breakfast, the man seated himself on a perch where he could watch the ocean. It wasn't long until his small green delicately made her way onto the beach, her maw stained with the remnants of her own breakfast. "Prettiest girl in the Weyr," He crooned, not hesitating to pull a rag from his pocket and delicately clean away the red. Paciseth's eyes whirled contentedly, and she pressed her snout gently against the man's chest. You say that to everyone.

"I know. Doesn't mean it isn't true."

Sorta short, sorry! <3

There's someone up ahead, and Venjeth does not care for that.
Multiple someones, in fact. The Green that appears not too long after his arrival is unfamiliar to him, a shape he hadn't yet been able to document--it doesn't take much to deduce that she's here for one man alone, particularly not with such blatant displays of affection between the two. He keeps his cool for the time being, eyes whirling a haphazard mix of orange and yellow as he tries to size up Paciseth as best he could without getting too close.

A'yral, on the other hand, is far less than concerned with what's going on, at least for the moment. He's kept himself comfortably curled up on Venjeth's back, eyes closed as he lets the stocky White stroll along--at such a relaxed speed, he doesn't have to worry much about sliding off, not that Venjeth would let that happen in the first place.
Really, he's almost tempted to take something of a cat nap, particularly when how early it is was considered; A'yral wasn't exactly opposed to being up at this time, especially not after handling his duties as a rider for this long, but it was always nice to be able to relax for once. With the gentle sound of the sea mixed with the diffused warmth from his dragon, it was hard not to start feeling at least a little drowsy.

Mine.
Venjeth's rumbling voice stirs him from his half-slumber, and A'yral cracks open his good eye with a quiet groan.
"What's the matter, Ven? You're awfully...orange today." While it's an upgrade of sorts from the usual red, it's still plenty of a cause for concern. He sits up carefully, doing his best to maintain his balance as Venjeth slows to a halt, catching hold of the nearest ridge to help stabilize himself.
We've got company.
It's such a short, terse comment, but it has the same effect as throwing a bucket of ice water on him. A'yral tucks himself behind Venjeth's neck as much as he could in an already desperate effort to hide himself from view, swallowing thickly--when he speaks again, his voice is quiet, nerves clearly showing. He couldn't hide that from Venjeth. What was even the point in trying?
"Oh. Do-- Um, do we have to walk over here? We could...I don't know, turn around and go back instead. There's, ah, probably a better place to go somewhere else, right?"

That is, if J'chre hadn't spotted the White standing blatantly in the open, glaring daggers at himself and his dragon. If. Perhaps it would be better to think of it as a matter of when, but that was hardly optimistic, was it?

Venjeth's presence would have been entirely welcomed by both rider and dragon--up until Paciseth realized he was glowering in their direction. The small green drew herself up, affronted by such behavior even as her own eyes swirled with oranges and yellows. There's no need to be rude. She reprimanded, offended by him acting as though she'd done something wrong! Paciseth always tried to act properly, and such behavior was unwarranted!

Immediately sensing his dragon's shift in mood, J'chre glanced over and promptly lifted his hand in a wave to both dragon and.... rider, who seemed to be hiding. "Oi!" He called out. "No need to be nervous! Paciseth and I are real friendly like." Aren't we, doll?

Of course. As long as he minds his manners! She huffed, still feeling a trifle insulted.

You're just fine, my guy!
