History

Current Leader: Little Spring (*Greenie) || Mate: Babbling Brook (*Greenie)

The pack was formed long before Little Spring was a twinkle in his parents eye. River's Edge was formed by his grandparents who were a mated pair of alphas at the time with the ideals of their grandparents. The river they run along, primarily, is what has always provided them sustenance to survive and so the name was fitting. Their primary diet is of fish, crustaceans and other creatures that may be about like birds and frogs (though frogs are usually a last resort - yuck).

Little Spring was born in that, a spring, or at least at its edge. His parents were recently appointed the new alphas, another mated pair, (becoming a tradition at this point) and his grandparents were fading. His grandmother was nearing her time on this earth and his grandfather was fading knowing this fact. For this reason the family unit stayed near that very spring in hopes of using it's water as a viable resource to sustain them until the bitter end. The truth was that the elderly ex-alphas were not fit to travel and since some of their travel meant swimming.. it was out of the question.

Death came to collect the elderly wolf not long after Little Spring's birth and so the time of mourning swept them up into a night of howling a beautiful song about their great loss. Little Spring joining in as the lone whelp with a mewling, unsure cry.

The pack waited there a couple more days. Mourning their loss, but also waiting for death to return for the elder wolf who still lived among them. It became apparent that he wasn't ready for death, his own stubbornness was enough to suggest he would be around a while longer yet. But he made it clear that he wasn't going to stay with the pack much longer, a conversation could be over heard a night or two (seeing as it grew from whispers to loud talking - never yelling as Little Springs mother would say) that devulged that he would stay to see Little Spring grown, but if he wasn't gone by then.. he would leave.

True to his words his grandfather left the pack as soon as he deemed Little Spring old enough. There wasn't a goodbye, nor a warning, the grey muzzled elder simply strode off into the night and wasn't heard from. Though rumors had it that he took up a spot across a fairly deep body of water. Of course pack mates suggest that it would be impossible, but Little Spring holds onto the thought.

The hard times didn't end with the eldest pack members leaving them. Eventually the pack began to notice an odd shift in the patterns of the prey migration. Big game that they often took down as a group was becoming scarce and the creatures they did find were ill, weak, or injured. The food source was leaving their territories and a new fear took control. The alphas had to make decisions about their next move, which would be to journey away from the River, their home, or try to survive where they were. But even the meals they tried to consume from was the waters was becoming meager. The decision was made, they would be leaving.

For a short, and underwhelming time, the pack became known as Wanderers. They were known for being out of place, and ack lustre in their hunting skills. They were typically used to finding food on the plains, and in the waters. Grasslands were a bit more tricky, but still feasible. Now they were being tested by different terrain and although they found more food, they were having trouble adapting to hunt for it. Over time the pack grew weak once more, and having known this weakness they decided to turn to a more youthful approach. Little Spring was of age to take over the pack now, and had made a suggestion to return home. They had made a go of leaving away from their River, but they would not survive here. The couple of years they had spent away from home had told him that enough was enough.

---

Little Spring, with taking the new rank of Alpha, had to make some swift changes. The pack had some internal conflict which left the group torn. Some didn't enjoy the change of leadership, his parents were still deemed young enough to handle the role, but they still saw fit to hand over the reigns. This was the first generation, of the pack, to not be lead by a mated pair. Alone Little Spring stood against the glowering stares of individuals who were once peers.

The unthinkable happened. The pack split.

Much to his dismay the pack had managed to convince his parents they would be better off here. Their leadership was still desired, even if they handed it off. The Wanderers would remain. Little Spring, and his group of devout pack mates, stood opposed to them. With heavy hearts they had to leave. Little Spring managed to ensure that the, now neighboring packs, would remain tied. He would have nothing less than an alliance of some kind with his parents, his only blood relatives left to his knowledge.

Upon arrival to the old territory he was pleased to discover they would be uncontested. The River's Edge had found their home once again.
