Minnow and Catfish were avoiding him.

He’d chased them up and down the river but they were quick and sneaky. They knew how to use the water to hide their scent and he wasn’t in the mood to get his paws wet. So he sought someone different, followed his nose, ambling along with heavy, plodding steps.

Pike was a big wolf, heavy-set with lazy eyes and a lolling tongue.

He was sure he’d find someone eventually who’d share their meal. And if they weren’t inclined to be giving to start with, a little shove would often change their mind. As long as he didn’t have to any hunting himself, Pike would be happy.
