The war of the gods had been wreaking havoc upon the mortal realm for months and for those with no inclination at all of what was causing the upset, it seemed like the end of the world was looming before them. Across the continent there were disturbing lights, earthquakes, toxic lakes and disembodied voices; what were the mortals meant to believe if it was not that the apocalypse had come for them?
For his part, Akhilendra was decidedly sick of it by now. Although he had been lent the brash and stubborn nature of most of his family, he was one of the few saddled with the conscience that afflicted his distant uncle. It was a precarious mixture that left him to the part of a begrudging white night. Try as he might, he could not turn his back on someone in need. As he traveled through the lands he pulled lions from the rubble of landslides, drug them from mud pits, and stopped them from falling from cliffs as they collapsed beneath their feet. It never ended. His latest venture had seen him reunited with a cousin he had not seen since he was quite small and though the dark male was glad to see his kin to safety, he could have done without the sudden flea that followed him wherever he went.
"Why do we have to look? How do you know anyone is even trapped in there?"
Dhe'u's face was an open book as Akhi shot him glance; annoyed and bored. That seemed to be his usual state of existence. He drug his eyes away from the pale face that so closely resembled his own and continued his inspection of the half-collapsed cave entrance. He didn't need to justify himself to the other male and he wasn't going to explain that sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He had been certain he heard someone yell as the rocks came tumbling down.
"Aaahhhkiii," an annoying voice beckoned, "c'mon, there's nothing here."
With a sigh, the darker male shot a wicked glance sidelong at his cousin.
"Shut up already, would you?"
