Julie frowned in worried confusion. Eslik? What was that? "Um..." She withdrew her hands towards her chest as she watched Esben handle the pokemon. Already she really wanted to grab Flef back and hug him into her arms, but instead she tucked her hands under her arms and waited. She had no idea what Esben meant by his statement to the pokemon, or what his idea might have been. When Esben declared Flef's mission, and promptly hurled the pokemon over his head, Julie screamed. "ESBEN!" She jumped, hands flung out to her sides as she stared. She was just about to dart after Flef, when Esben spun around, grabbed her wrist, and started pulling her in the opposite direction.
"Wha-- no! Esben what about Flef!?!" she cried, stumbling after the boy. She wanted to stop, but she was struggling to keep up and get her balance, and some part of her wanted to run. She was scared, after all. Chico, too, had jumped, though more at his trainer's reaction than anything else. He reflexively sent another magical leaf attack at the space the axe occupied, and turned to run after the two children, though he slowed and stopped to look behind him at Flef, two vines slithering out from either side. He was hesitating, torn between grabbing Flef and running, and seeing what happened, while Julie stumbled further away after Esben.

"C’mon!" Esben snapped, gently tugging Julie by the wrist to urge her to get moving, glancing over his shoulder only briefly to assure that his pokemon were following suit. Eventually, his grip turned from her wrist to her hand, trying to keep her from falling over as they rushed their way away. Another curious giggle sounded as the children fled, the axe beginning to spin more rapidly, slashing through the new storm of leaves sent at it. The spinning blade turned and focused on Chico at this point, immediately flying forward in attack at the Chikorita in response. Teeg gave a startled yelp in response, about ready to tackle the green bean out the way when Flef came flying through the air in between the two. WHAT?
The fluff ball chirped and focused on the oncoming weapon, releasing a very loud and disarming chirp that disrupted the weapon's trajectory, sending it careening off to the side and into the wall. Flef plopped to the ground and chirped, though continued to roll until he came to be stuck under a nearby table. Oops. he axe, now stuck in the wall, wiggled and struggled to free itself but for now, seemed properly stuck.
"He’ll be fine! He knows what ’ta do!" He announced between breaths, trying not to stumble as he made a sharp turn. Fortunately, the door was right in sight! He slowed to catch his breath, glancing to check his pokemon. There was Byr and Isi right behind and… "Where’s Teeg?!" Esben yelped, eyes going wide. "And yer Chicken, Julie!" Did they not understand the plan? Clearly this was an issue the nine-year-old had not foreseen.

Julie hiccuped a bit as Esben tugged her, stumbling and frantically trying to look over her shoulder. Chico was still torn, backing up slowly to try and follow, but unable to completely turn tail and run with Flef still clearly in danger. It seemed he wasn't the only one, either, as Teeg lingered, and both were put on alert as the axe suddenly flew towards the chikorita. Chico's eyes widened, and his legs leaped apart as he froze, torn between attacking, and dodging out of the way. Just as he started to rear back and attempt to send another magical leaf flying at the axe, Flef suddenly leaped in between them, and disoriented the attacking weapon. Chico landed back on his feet, blinking rapidly as he looked at the tumble of fur, and then to the axe stuck wiggling in the wall.
He hesitated, but then bounded over to the furball, calling back over to Teeg to run, that he would be right behind her. He just.... he was going to try and, what... roll Flef? He was going to try and get the fluffball out of there. Even if it seemed it could defend itself, it was better for them to all stick together.... right? Oy vey, this is why plans needed to be shared with the group. Chico had no idea.
"B-but what's he gonna do!?" Julie exclaimed, finally getting her footing as she ran beside Esben, "And what about my brother?!" Her expression was distraught, her eyes wet as she struggled to wrap her little, young mind around the situation. They'd been trying to find him! Esben had told her he might still be in there-- but now they were running away. And they were leaving their pokemon behind! But she couldn't bring herself to break his grip on her, or even slow down. She was so scared; running with him felt so much safer than anything else, and she caved into the instinct of pure, self preservation.
She slowed with him, breathing hard, her chest aching as she turned and looked behind them. Tears continued to well up as she stared into the hallway, waiting, anxiously waiting for any sign of their pokemon. "I-- I dunno! Esby what if the axe got them!?" she cried, tears starting to roll down her cheeks. A loud whinny from the doorway echoed, but she didn't turn around. Tria was pawing at the doorway, bumping her head against it, and testing her size as she tried to find a way in. The sound of the rapidash's concerned cries added to the chaos, before she turned, and disappeared, running around for a different angle. She could tell the children were upset; but she couldn't exactly go into a wooden house, due to her size, not to mention the open flames all along her back and tail.

Flef chirped and wiggled from his trapped position, still trying to work himself free. He paused when Chico appeared, Teeg close behind the Chikorita to check her fluffy teammate, singular eye looking between the two and giving a little chirp of greeting. He clearly wasn’t phased from being chucked through the air, though he hadn’t expected to get stuck. Teeg took one last glance to the axe in the wall, which at this point had stopped wiggling before toddling over. ’C’mon I’ll help you pull him out.’ She announced, gently clamping some of Flef’s fur in her mouth and giving a tug. The fluff ball was certainly wedged in their good (who knew Esben had such an arm?) but a little bit of wiggling would have him free in no time.
Esben, who was busy looking down the way they’d came to see if the pokemon were coming, snapped his attention back to Julie as she started with her questions. He was about to snap at her for being such a baby, words catching in his throat at how distraught she looked. "Distract it of course!" He responded, hand dropping from behind his head. "He can roll outta the way a lot easier than the other pokies! And he’s smallest!" He announced with the most certainty that he could muster as nine-year-old. He gripped his hands into tight fists, staring her down. " We’ll find’em! Don’t worry! But we can’t do that with a crazy axe tryin’ ta chop us up!"
He looked to the doorway where Tria was pawing, frowned and looked back to Julie. The poor girl was seconds away from bursting into tears and it almost made him feel bad. Was this how his sister felt when he was acting up? Oi, what a bother. "Don’ cry Julie! Warrior’s don’t cry!" Esben said, placing a hand on her shoulder while he pointed with the other.
"Pokemon are tough! But, I’ll go find them just in case! You go to yer pony and stay there. Okay? You can keep Isi and Byr with ya, they’ll keep you safe until your Chicken comes back." He announced, turning to his bears and gesturing to them to stay. Isi didn’t look that confident, Byr huffed, looking as though he wanted to go with the boy, stopped only by later holding up a hand. "No. Stay here and watch Julie." Esben stated firmly, looking at Julie and puffing his chest out. "You’ll see Julie, I’m a warrior and I know what to do!"

Chico looked over as Teeg toddled over to help, looking uncertain at her offer. He hesitated only a moment, though, before nodding, reaching over to grab hold and tug much in the same way. With a bit of wiggling, they were able to get the pokemon free, and he quickly bound around to push the fluffball with his head. 'You pull, I'll push!' he suggested, eyes still darting around for any signs of trouble before they could try and rush after their trainers.
One of whom was having a very hard time with the situation. Nothing Esben said, at first, helped quell Julie's fears. She still frantically worried for Flef, and hugged herself in his absence as she stared down the hallway. She sniffled and finally looked at Esben when he put a hand on her shoulder, but the tears didn't stop. She finally reached up to try and squish them off her face and rub her eyes, blinking blearily at him as she tried to swallow the fear down. She could do this! Esben was right-- he obviously knew what he was doing, and they could face whatever this thing was! "O-okay, but what about--" A less familiar shrill sound caught her off, and for a moment, the breath caught in her throat as fear gripped her. But after a second, she recognized the sound, and as it echoed through the halls, growing louder, she relaxed. "Mareepa!" the little girl shouted out. She had completely forgotten that the sheep pokemon had gone bounding on ahead into the building way back when they first started getting ready to go in.
She turned back to Esben, expression surprised, and much less fearful. "Esby! Mareepa is in here!" she exclaimed, grabbing at the boy's arm, "You go get the pokies! I'm gonna find her! Isi, Byr, can you guys come with me?" she asked, letting go of Esben's glove's sleeve to spin around and face the pokemon. Maybe it was because it sounded in the opposite direction, but she seemed much more bold. Or maybe because it was the chance to find someone, even if it wasn't her brother.

Esben was uncertain of how to soothe Julie as she continued with her waterworks, looking a bit concerned himself. He firmly believed that the pokemon would be fine and in fact would be showing up around the corner any minute. That or his axe would… he hadn’t thought what might happen if the tool chose to follow them
He jumped in surprise as Julie exclaimed that Mareepa was in here. "Wha?" He said, expression dumbstruck. A what was here? It took him a solid minute of thought to realize that she was speaking about her sheep. He’d completely forgotten that the creatures had ever been out at any point. Julie seemed to brighten though as she grabbed his arm in response, immediately turning to his bears and requesting they accompany her in her search. They looked stunned, Isi giving an uncertain mewl before nodding his head. Byr was still stunned at Esben’s demand that they stick with the girl but snapped out of it.
"Urrrssaa!" He huffed, chest-puffing out in an attempt to look intimidating before he gave the pair a solid nod to Julie, turning and starting in the direction of the cry, Isi sticking next to Julie just in case. Esben watched the bears in surprise but grinned, rather proud. Now those were warriors to be proud of!
"Right! I’ll get yer Chicken and Teeg and Flef! Don’ go too far though, okay? Those ghosts might still be around!" He said, pounding a fist to his chest. He turned and quickly ran his way back down the hall they’d come, slowing and peering around the corner. He spotted Teeg and Chico, working to free Flef from his stuck position. His eyes glanced up and spotted his axe as well, still at this point.
Teeg, who’d given a muffled agreement to Chico, was busy tugging Flef and wiggling him about. It was a moment or so before the fluffball gave a chirp as he popped free, rolling back a little and coming to a pause. One big eye stared between the two grass types, giving a chirp of delight. "Teeg! Flef! Chicken!" Teeg perked up and turned to look as Esben trotted up to them. The young boy looked between the three, pausing his gaze on Flef. "Yer alright! I knew ya could do it, Flef!" He grinned, scooping the pokemon up into his arms. He looked at the two grass pokemon, giving an approving nod. "Good on you two, gettin’ him free." Esben took a look at his axe, stuck in the wall just out of his grasp. Dang.
"Hey Chicken!" Esben looked back to Chico curiously, freeing a hand and pointing to his axe. "Can ya get my axe? I Can’t reach an’ I know you’ve got uhm… those vine things! And then we can get back to the others."

Encouraged by having Isi and Byr along with her, Julie bounded down the hallway, cupping her hands to her mouth as she ran. "Mareepa! Sheep mareep! Where are you?" she shouted, looking this way and that. She stumbled to a stop as another bleating sound echoed from the room ahead, and she stopped just past the doorway, eyes wide in surprise. There, bucking and bouncing around the room with sparks flying everywhere, was Mareepa. At first, Julie thought maybe the sheep was attacking something, or being attacked, or just.... in battle. But then she noticed the pokemon's eyes in glee as it happily shouted out and stomped around. An uncertain grumble made the girl jump, and she looked up to the ceiling to see a very unnerved haunter huddled up in the corner, watching the spaztic electric type. Noticing Julie, he put on a menacing face, but another shock of electricity nearby had him hesitate. And, with a second's consideration, he disappeared up through the rafters and into the woodwork.
Julie blinked a few times, but looked down at her pokemon to try and shout to her, only to have her breath catch in her throat. Mareepa was beginning to glow, a pretty white light, even brighter than the sheep's coat. It grew, consuming the pokemon's form, and expanding further. Julie lifted her fists up by her face to ineffectually block the light, and only lowered them when it finally faded. "Whoa... sheep mareep! You evolved!" she exclaimed, hands outstretched beside her. She ran over, hugging the flaaffy who wiggled and bleated again happily at finally noticing her trainer. The two danced in the center of the room a moment, before the whole building seemed to shudder, and Julie suddenly drew back. She looked around, before grabbing her pokemon's paw. "C'mon sheep mareep! We gotta go find Esby!" she declared, running back for Isi and Byr, and towards the entrance.
Meanwhile, Chico was looking around once he helped get Flef free and Esben came running in. Was Julie with him? That wasn't safe! They were supposed to have ran out to safety with Tria! The chikorita moved around and kept watch anxiously, searching for his trainer, and any signs of trouble. He didn't even notice Esben's praise or focus on the axe, until Esben was mentioning vines, and Chico realized-- he'd addressed him. As Chicken. The pokemon stared deadpan at the child, and for a moment, seriously considered just leaving. Instead, though, Chico visibly heaved a heavy sigh, and walked over. Putting his forefeet on the wall, his vines slipped back out, and wrapped around the axe, working to try and wrench it free. It was pretty stuck in there....
After a pause, Chico pulled back, stepped away from the wall, and threw another magical leaf attack, this time at the wall around the axe. That seemed to crack the foundation enough for him to yank it out on his second try, and handed it over to Esben with a little effort. Turning, he gave a shout for them to all follow, and ran back towards the entrance. He needed to find his Julie.

Esben frowned, staring back at Chico. Did he miss his request? The lad was about to open his mouth to speak again before the green bean sighed and moved over to do what was asked. For a moment he watched the pokemon work, glancing down to Flef as the pokemon gave a few curious chirps, trying to spin in his arms to glance around him. Where was Julie? Clearly it too was curious where the girl was at. Seben couldn’t help buyt huff a bit at that, instead turning his attention to Teeg.
"You alrigh’ Teeg?" He inquired, earning a tired nod from the Turtwig. She was still a bit startled over the whole ordeal and looked ready to move along. Esben frowned, considering what he could do for her before the sound of an attack caught his attention. His head snapped about just as Chico wrenched his axe free and offered it to him. He freed a hand and snatched it with a grin. "Thanks Chicken!" Tucking it back in it’s carry loop, he perked up as the Chikorita shouted, immediately rushing in the direction he’d just come. "Woah! Hold on! Don’t go runnin’ off!" He shouted, immediately following after the pokemon back towards the front.
Byr and Isi stuck close to Julie as she followed the bleats of her missing sheep pokemon, stumbling upon it in a room terrorizing a Haunter. Isi yelped and hid behind the girl at the sight of all the electricity bumbling about, Byr giving a small growl and hopping ahead just in case. Fortunately, it seemed Mareepa was very much in control of the situation. So much so that she started glowing, which caught the bears off guard.
Fortunately, it wasn’t anything to worry about and soon Mareepa was being tackled by Julie in excitement over her new form. The bears stared in awe at the white Mareep, each taking in the sight and deciphering it for themselves. They hadn’t seen a pokemon evolve firsthand in… a very long time, if ever. Julie seemed rather happy about it. The pair fumbled and followed the two back to the entrance, giving little shouts of their own as their owner and crew appeared.
"Julie!" Esben yelled, running up and squinting at Mareepa. "… What’s that? That ain’ your sheep."

Chico snorted in disapproval at Esben's "thanks", wishing the boy would just use his right name. Maybe that was part of why he so blatantly ignored the boy when he went bounding ahead, and left the other two behind, but it was also because he heard them following. He wanted to get the kids out, and as long as Esben (and his pokemon) were heading in the correct direction, he wasn't going to fuss with them. He needed to find Julie, though when he did, he was startled to find a seemingly unfamiliar pokemon with her. After a moment of appraisal, however, he realized who it was, and exhaled quietly in relief. He looked over as he heard Tria whinnying outside again.
Julie heard the pokemon, but was ignoring it, beaming at Esben as she slowed to a stop, waiting for him near the entrance. "Sure it is! She evoluved!" she chirped happily, holding the flaaffy's little nub hand. The pokemon baa'd in greeting, waving both arms happily, a few sparks flying off her. "C'mon, Esby, let's get outside 'fore anythin' else happens," she added eagerly, taking his hand, and moving to pull them both out.
Tria was pacing anxiously outside the door, snorting and splashing mud, but the moment she saw the kids near the entrance, she galloped over, neighing quietly and huddling close to ensure they were okay.

Esben’s gaze was still squinted as he moved from side to side to get a better look at Mareepa. He was pretty darn sure that the sheep had originally been on all fours when they’d entered this house; now it was up on two! And taller and missing fluff in certain places. "Huh… so she did.. the changing thing pokemon do?" He repeated, head tilting to the side. Admittedly, he’d only seen a handful of select pokemon evolve in his life, and certainly none of the Mareep that had ever wandered the fields of his clan had gone beyond that. But he had a minimum understanding of what evolving was and was inclined to believe Julie.
"Well… good! Maybe it won’ go wanderin’ off as easily next time!" He straightened his stance and Flef in his arms, glancing back to the door at the sound of Tria’s whining. "We should check with yer pony, she sounds worried." Esben remarked, glancing to assure that his bears had in fact returned with Julie, silently relieved to see that for once everyone was where they should be. "An’ we’ll need a new light too! We’ll have ta find another stick… come on!" He said, gesturing towards the door and starting his way for it.
"And then we can go back and start lookin’ for your brother again!" He sounded confident, but inwardly he wanted to step out of the dark and spooky house for at least a minute to calm his nerves. He wasn’t scared! But … well the dark wasn’t easy to see in was all. And all the pokemon trouble, he just needed a moment to breath and totally collect his young thoughts for the next course of action.

Julie was smiling brightly, almost as if all the fears and terrors of the previous moments had completely vanished. Perhaps, given her age, they had, for the time being, though one would argue object permanence should have long since settled in. Still, her focus seemed to be on Mareepa -- or Flaaffa, or whatever it would come to be called -- and she nodded eagerly at Esben's attempt to word out what had happened. "Yeah! She's all evoluved now!" she excitedly confirmed, still holding the pokemon's hand. She wasn't sure about it wandering off -- she kinda forgot it did that, and wasn't thinking about that right then -- but she bet it could do all kinds of new cool things in the meantime!
Esben was right, though-- they should check on Tria, in the meantime. She readily pulled Mareepa over to walk with him, nodding confidently. "Yeah! But um..." she trailed off uncertainly. Looking for her brother hadn't gone so well, and she wasn't sure if Mareepa might have seen something, or how big the house was. "Maybe we should send some of our pokies in instead? They can prolly look around faster than we can, Esby! And they can fight the bad stuff better," she pointed out. Not that she was.... scared or anything, of course.
The moment they got outside, Tria was at them, snuffling and nuzzling them with clear anxiety and relief. Julie giggled, though it was a little unsteady. "Hehe, that tickles Tria. We're okay!" she reassured the pokemon, patting her nose. Despite not being his, the pokemon did the same check over with Esben, too, before walking around the thick mud to stand between them and the house, still looking worried. She didn't like having them in there... it clearly wasn't safe, and she couldn't get to them if something happened....

Once at the door to the house, Esben stepped out to look around. The swampy marsh-like area that the house resided in hadn’t changed, fortunately; it was still the same. Maybe just a little darker (how much time had passed since they’d first entered the house anyway? He didn’t know).
"Huh?" He frowned, a look of confusion on his face. He looked back at Julie, head tilting a bit in thought at her remark. "I mean sure they could. But would they know where ta look? Or how to track or anything?" He retorted. Admittedly, it was a good idea, but he wasn’t confident in their abilities to get the task done. "What if they get lost again?"
Esben scoffed and wiggled at the snuffles and nuzzles from Tria, Flef chirping delightedly at Tria. "Hey! Stop that!" He huffed, though he was nice enough to give the Rapidash a pat on the snout much as Julie did. He watched her as she moved around to stand between the entrance and them, frowning some. He was no pokemon whisperer, far from it in fact, but he recognized the look of a troubled individual when he saw it. He’d seen enough of that in his young life.
"Humph," Esben adjusted the chirping Flef to hold him under one arm, freeing a hand to hold to his chin in thought. "Well… what do you think we should do then, Julie? You want ta send some of the pokies to look? We can’t send them all or anythin’…," Esben finally broke the silence, watching the other child. "Or I can go lookin’! And you can stay here. Either way, we have ta look a little longer!"

Julie lifted her shoulders to her ears. "I unno... I mean they'd prolly know as much as we would. Chico went in with us so he'd know where to go I think! He could t... track 'em or somethin', probably!" she declared, having absolutely no idea what tracking entailed. Chico looked up at her, but said nothing. He wasn't really sure what that meant, either, but if they needed someone to go in and look for Julie's brother, he could do it. He would just look everywhere, and he would fight any pokemon or ghosties that tried to stop him! He wasn't scared-- and he wasn't bringing no axe with him, either.
Tria pulled away and snuffed, but didn't really back off as Esben tried to dismiss her. She stayed between them and the building, giving them a concerned look, while Julie glanced between Flef, and Esben. "I think we could send some in! They can look all through, and they can call for us if they need back up!" she decided, holding her hands together by her tummy. She wanted to hold Flef, but she wasn't going to take him. And she didn't want Esben to go back in, either....

Esben frowned, continuing to tap at his chin in thought, Julie had a point sort of, though he all his short life lessons had taught him that there was power in numbers. And while they had the pokemon numbers, they weren’t human numbers, and humans were important in determining stuff like this! Right? That’s… that’s how it’d always worked when his clan had gone on hunts or made big decisions for how they’d proceed on something.
"I mean sure, your Chicken probably could… but Byr would be better at it! So they can both go!" He stated, puffing out his chest. The Teddiursa looked up at his trainer at the mention of his name, following suit in puffing out his chest and giving a tough growl of his own. He wasn’t certain what he was being volunteered for, but if Esben was suggesting he be the one to do it then it must’ve been important!

Immediately, Julie's eyebrows pulled together, her cheeks puffed out, and a little pout appeared on her face. What did that mean? Byr would be better. As if! Chico was the BEST. However, Julie decided not to argue this. Not now. Instead she narrowed her eyes, face still skewed up, and crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay! But if Chico finds my brother first, ya gotta stop callin' him Chicken!" she decided stubbornly, eyes still slits as she stared back at the boy. She relaxed as the pokemon prepared to go back in, and dropped her hands to her side, looking at Chico curiously. She kinda remembered Torin showing her how to use potions and stuff on him.... did he need any, though? Could she send some in with him?
She glanced at Esben as he addressed the two pokemon. She followed his gaze to Tria, and lifted her arms to wave them through the air. "Tria you gotta mooooove! They pokies are gonna go in to take a look around!" she urged the equestrian pokemon, who still looked visibly doubtful. Chico, however, didn't hesitate, and ran forward, easily fitting under the pokemon's legs, before disappearing through the door. Tria whinnied in distress after him, and stepped back, pacing anxiously before shaking her head and falling still. She walked over to nudge at Julie, instead. "It's oka, Tri! You can help Esby and I look around," she reassured the pokemon, patting her muzzle.
Meanwhile, Chico was on a mission-- he hadn't missed Esben's boasting, and while he got that Esben was a child.... it still annoyed him a bit. The kid calling him by the wrong damn name, and insulting him like that... If Julie's brother was in here, he was DEFINITELY going to find him now!
