Esben scrunched up his nose, giving Julie a look as she proclaimed the pokemon’s name. He didn’t quite notice as his own pokemon toddled up behind him, Byr squeezing around to see what Chico was attempting to let kick his butt, Isi hiding with a chirping Flef just behind the young boy, with Teeg taking up his other side.
"A… Gen… gur?" He repeated, squinting at the weird purple ghost. Then it spoke and Julie went about correcting herself, which just confused the young Viking more. "A Haunter? Never heard of it!" Esben took a step forward, brandishing the torch closer to get a better look. It looked weird, not having a body and all. "It ain’ a dragon, is it?" Important question that one. He titled his head, watching the ghost as Julie inquired about her brother and his whereabouts, trying to continue to look tough as he returned his axe to its holster and started swapping the torch between his hands. Even with the thick gloves and wrist guards, it was uhm… kind of hot. He definitely needed a bigger stick. "Yeah! You better tell us where he went!" Esben added sternly; Julie was asking so nicely and all, it was important to let them know who was in charge!
In the meantime, Isi stared back into the darkness, seemingly the only of his group to notice the additional ghostly bodies in the background. He felt a chill run down his spine, hugging a curious Flef closer. Oh dear...

Julie pursed her lips and put her hands on her hips as she looked at Esben. "You gotta learns your pokemon, Esben!" she chided, though, obviously, she had misidentified it herself. And she wasn't exactly an expert on pokemon, either..... she barely knew the ones she had, let alone all the ones she would ultimately end up encountering. Speaking of, though, she turned her head and looked curiously back at the haunter, shaking her head to Esben's question. "Nuh uh... I don' think so. I think it's a darkie pokemon or somethin'..." she mused. She turned back to the ghost, determined, but blinked when Esben piped up and backed her up. Yeah! Back up!
The haunter stared at the kids, still a bit put out and taken aback, before looking over ot the side. Julie blinked, and followed its gaze, before her expression immediately went slack. Her eyelids drooped, and she wavered in place, before promptly collapsing onto the floor, snoozing peacefully.

Esben was still squinting at the Haunter with suspicion, though he did roll his eyes at Julie’s scolding. "You called it a bunch of things! How do you know it ain’ a dragon?!" He shot back, shooting a look at her. He might’ve not known all the pokemon but at least he wasn’t sitting there calling them the wrong names.
"A… darkie?" What was that, a shadow monster version of a pokemon? It sounded intimidating. Esben scoffed a bit though, turning his attention briefly back to the Haunter and opening his mouth to speak again before the ‘thud’ of Julie hitting the ground out cold caught him by surprise.
"Wha- Julie!" What in the world had just happened, immediately he hopped on over next to her to take a look. "Are you-" Esben felt a sudden wave of the sleepies hit him. "Wha-," he mumbled, stumbling and dropping the torch, which fell flame first and luckily snuffed itself out before collapsing to the ground dead asleep.

Julie felt something heavy resting against her side, and she tried to squeeze Flef tighter. Only to find the pokemon's warmth and fur completely gone, instead replaced by empty air that her arms slipped through. She ended up hugging herself and shivering, her eyes opening to find that something wasn't on her, but rather what she felt was the cold wooden floor she was laying on. She sniffled a bit and put her hands on the ground, pushing herself up some as she looked around and tried to peer through the darkness. She felt all cotton-candy headed and scared, like she had a bad dream. Except she remembered all of it. She'd been falling. And then she....
"Ch-chico? Esben?" She looked around, and quickly threw her arms around her starter as he anxiously appeared within sight, having jumped to his feet the moment his trainer stirred. She hugged onto him, but rubbed her eyes and looked over to find Esben. She moved over, shaking him a bit, hoping to help wake him up, too. Mostly because she wanted to steel Flef and hug the pokemon, but also to make sure he was okay. He looked like he was having a bad dream, too....

Esben groaned and continued in his feeble attempts to scramble for the light in his mind, wiggling and flopping against the ground in the process. Slowly his senses began to return to him just enough to make out what was going on around him. There was wild chirping going on right next to his head as Flef hopped back over at the sight of his owner’s stirrings, the volume only increasing as Julie joined in the attempt to get him up.
"Ughh… whu…," Esben mumbled, swatting a bit as Julie began shaking him. His eyes opened, blurry from such an abrupt wake up. "Julie? Wha..," He sat himself up, rubbing at his eyes. Flef continued on like a fluffy alarm and soon Esben could hear the concerned chatter of Byr as he grasped onto his trainer’s arm to try and steady him. Teeg and Isi were behind Byr, though the Turtwig was desperately attempting to comfort the sobbing Cubchoo.
"Byr! There you are!" The young viking announced with glee, earning a confused look from the pokemon. Sure it was dark, but he hadn’t gone far. Was Esben alright? Had he hit his head with the random tumble into the sleep realm?
Esben’s grin subsided some as he looked around and then back at Julie. "... Where’d the mountain go? What happened? Why’d yer horse go all crazy for?" He asked, clearly confused. The dream had been far too real to him; had they really left the house for a short time? How’d they get back so fast? There were so many questions racing through his mind right now.

Julie drew her hands back when Esben finally started waking up, and looked at him anxiously. Chico looked a mix of concerned and dubious, as though he wondered if, somehow, this was all Esben's fault. It wasn't, of course, and he'd been there to see most of it, and help chase those ghost pokemon off, but he was still skeptical of the child.
Julie was took shaken to remember that, though. Instead she crawled over to grab the chirping Flef and pull him into her arms, watching Esben slowly wake up and take in his surroundings. She shook her head when he finally turned to her and spoke up, though. "I 'unno," she mumbled, hugging Flef closely. Chico jealously eyed the pokemon, but didn't intrude. A whinny from the house entrance had her straightening, eyes wide. "Tria's.... still outside...." Still. Because that was where she was. Not in a cave. She frowned. "Musta.... been a dream, Esby...." she mumbled, rubbing her eye. She pushed to stand up, Chico hovering by her heel as she looked around. "The darkie pokemon are gone but... m-maybe we should leave?" she suggested, her eyes slowly adjusting to the dark. The 'torch' lay somewhere on the floor, long since having died out. She couldn't even see the faint glow of embers, so they must have been asleep for a while-- not that she quite had the wherewithal to draw that conclusion.
Turning, she shuffled Flef in her arms before sort of offering Esben a hand up, like Torin had done for her plenty of times. "I don' think... my brother's in here," she added in a quiet voice. She was trying not to think on that too much... but if he had been, he would have found them, right?

Esben frowned, raising a hand to rub the side of his head as he tried to compose his thoughts, Byr still clinging to his other arm worried that the lad might fall over at any moment. "She.. is?" That made no sense. They’d been on a mountain and Tria had gone crazy and sent them flying! And… and… this wasn’t a mountain. It was the house from before. "But… but it was too real to be a dream!" He said, expression stern. He could feel the bumps and bruises from falling! Then again, there weren’t any.
Maybe Julie was on to something but it was hard for him to believe it. Flef’s chirping caught his attention as Julie scooped the pokemon up to hug. Had they fallen asleep? But how? He was pretty sure they’d been walking to explore the house beforehand… ugh.
"Pah! That’s stupid," the young boy remarked, scrambling to his feet with a wee bit of help from Julie’s offered hand. He wasn’t excited about the idea that it’d been some dream forced upon them, but that was something to solve later. He blinked and looked at Julie in confusion.
"What? But we haven’ even looked all that far!" He frowned, clearly puzzled by her behavior. Was she that startled about what had happened. Nothing in the dream had actually happened, so there was nothing to be scared about. At least, that was the conclusion he had come to in a short few minutes. "If we got stuck in a dream… then he might be stuck in a dream! We should check, dont’cha think?" Isi gave a whine, clearly inclined to agree with Julie that they ought to be exiting. Byr and Teeg looked uneasily at one another. They might’ve been feeling the same. It seemed only Esben was adamant about the idea of continuing on for some reason.

Julie looked around uneasily, hugging Flef close and raising her shoulders nearly to her ears. "I-I 'unno," she repeated, shrugging a little but never letting her shoulders relax. It really did feel incredibly real, and she was having a hard time processing what exactly was going on. It didn't help that Esben seemed to have had the exact same dream, and well... that hadn't happened before! But maybe shared dreams were actually more common than she thought...? She had no idea. She continued glancing around as she helped him up, but once he was on his feet she retracted her hand to hug Flef closer.
She frowned nervously at his protest to her claim, and guilt pooled in her stomach. "U-uhm.... B-but we woke up...." she started, but then gave a shake of her head. With a deep breath, she followed up with a more certain nod. "N-no you're right! We can keep looking," she decided, puffing out her chest boldly. Chico gave a low churr of concern, but tucked himself in close to her heel. He really didn't like this, especially when those stupid ghost pokemon could return with more pranks any moment, but he didn't really get much say on this....

Esben had straightened himself up at this point, patting the wrinkles from his clothes and adjusting the collar of his hood back into place. Julie’s response just made the frown on his face stiffen, brow furrowing as he tried to focus through the looming darkness. Flef chirped and wiggled further in Julie’s arms, clearly sensing the young girl’s distress over the matter, even if he didn’t understand the cause of it. As far as the fluff ball knew, the children had simply fallen asleep out of nowhere. It was odd, but then again maybe they were just that tired!
It took a bit of convincing, but Esben was pleased that Julie was willing to consider his line of logic. "Maybe! But we gotta check, just in case!" He felt confident that this was the right thing to do. After all, what were the chances that only they’d been affected by sudden random sleep? Julie’s brother’s disappearance was a mystery and one that would be solved!
"Great! Then let's check uhm…," Esben perked up as he suddenly remembered something. "The Gengur! " He snatched his axe up, immediately sharpening his attention. "Where’d it go?! I bet it knows where he is!" He shouted, beginning to rush ahead down the halls and deeper into the house. Byr yelped and stumbled, giving chase after the boy while the remainder of his team lingered in confusion. Why couldn’t he just sit still for a moment?! "C’mon Julie! We gotta find those ghosties!"

Julie, whether she was aware of it or not, was appreciative of Flef's snuggling. She relaxed a little, even though her focus was mostly on Esben and the conversation they were (sort of) having. She looked over at the other, nodding slowly in agreement, and gave a small exhale. She was brave. This was fine! She wiggled a bit to help herself loosen up, but looked confused a moment, then surprised at Esben's exclamation. "The Gengur?" she repeated curiously. She started stepping closer to him, but quickly broke out in a run to keep up with him, startling her pokemon as well. Chico called out, but quickly bound after the two trainers.
"Esby what if the ghosties put us to sleep again!" she shouted after him, trying to keep up. He was a bit taller than her, though, and older, and she couldn't quite get into pace with him. Not to mention, she thought they were darkie pokemon... Boy, she really needed some pokemon education. And she wished Tria was here. She could probably help them look a lot faster with her fire and long, long legs...
Julie looked around as they ran, wide eyes darting about the halls, looking for any signs of the ghost pokemon they had encountered before. She was getting faint memories of them doing something before the two fell asleep into that dream world, and she wasn't sure whether they should be worried about falling back asleep and going back to the world. After all, it might not have ended well, but they just woke up, right? So the world hadn't hurt them or anything.
"E-Esben wait up!" she called as she looked ahead to find herself falling behind a little. She wasn't getting tired yet, but breathing was getting sorta fast and uncomfortable, and she was starting to worry that they might miss something. What if there was stuff in the shadows?

Flef chirped as Julie wiggled, snuggling further into the young girl’s arms in delight. He still had no idea what was going on but was happy that she seemed just a bit brighter about the situation. At least until Esben took off running.
Esben, who had put a good ten feet between the two of them, glanced back over his shoulder with a frown. "They won’t get us this time! We’ll see them comin’!" He announced proudly, chest puffed out. They might have been able to sneak up on them last time, but this time be knew what to expect. "We just have to keep our eyes-" Esben yelped as something caught his foot and sent him tumbling. His axe fell from his hands, skittering across the wooden floor.
"Oof," he grumbled. A hand to his head to nurse the area he’d bumped from his tumble, he glanced around. What had tripped him? He wasn’t normally the clumsy type and the floor was nothing but wood; it might have been old and decrepit, but there was nothing jutting out; it honestly seemed to be in good condition.
In Esben’s attempt to figure out what had tripped him, he was oblivious to what was going on with his axe. Particularly, that it had found a way to pick itself up from the ground… without him on the other end. It floated there, slowly spinning and twirling about in the air as though being juggled.
Byr managed to catch up, yelping and scrambling to assure that Esben was alright from his fall. However, while attempting to check that his charge was alright, the Teddiursa caught the glint of metal from the corner of his eye and immediately froze as he took in the sight. What… what was going on?! Why was it floating?! Esben blinked and poked the bear pokemon. "What’s that look for By-" he started, before following the pokemon’s gaze. His words caught in his throat at the surprise.Uhm…?

Julie was trying to keep up with Esben, but her eyes widened when the boy suddenly went flying forward and landed hard onto the floor. "Esben!" She shouted and picked up her pace, hurrying over and setting Flef gently down even though she desperately wanted to keep the pokemon in her arms. "Are you okay!?" she worried, leaning over him with her hands up to her mouth. She straightened some and offered her hands out, flexing her fingers to encourage him to take them so she could help him up. "What happened?" she asked, looking at the boy. She hadn't noticed anything on the floor, either, though she wasn't exactly thinking to closely inspect it.
When the other's attention shifted to his pokemon, she looked over as well, and followed its gaze, though as she did, Chico was running up beside her. Her eyes widened at the sight of the axe rotating through the air, and she jumped back as Chico leaped in between the weapon and the children, and immediately sent a Magical Leaf at the axe. "Chico! Be careful!" she urged, grabbing up Flef and moving in close to Esben. She looked around as the hair on the back of her neck started to lift, a sense of unease washing over her as mischievous laughter echoed around them. "Esben.... what should we do...?" she whispered softly, huddling close. She was trying not to be scared, but... he was the warrior, right? He should know what to do, so they didn't get chopped up into bits like firewood...

"I'm fine, I'm fine!" He reached up and took the offered hand, pulling himself up in a scramble. There were bigger problems at the moment, like why his axe was floating in the air as it was! Byr gave a bark of a growl when Chico charged between the children and the weapon, chest puffing out. How dare this green bean keep trying to show him up! He skipped forward a bit as well to further the barrier between the kids and the weapon, paws clenched ready should the axe retaliate from the attack. The weapon spun like a pinwheel in the air, slashing through some of the leaves, others nicking the handle. The axe floated higher up, beginning to slowly rotate around and stopping with blade pointed in their direction.
Esben clenched his fist, staring hard at the floating axe, a chill running down his own spine at the sound of disembodied laughter. "I... I don't know...," He murmured uneasily. Tough as he tried to be, it was much harder to fight things that you couldn't see. And his sister had always told him not to lose his grip on his axe; it made a lot of sense why.
Flef wiggled and stared wide eyed at the situation before there, beginning to chirp and wiggle about in Julie's arms as though trying to call attention to whatever ghastly individual was playing around. While everyone else seemed alarmed or scared, the fluff ball seemed curious and excited. Esben snapped a dissatisfied look at the pokemon. "Flef, be quiet!" He hissed, a hint of fear in his tone. The pokemon only paused a second before continuing on.
"Ergh...," if they got hacked apart for this, he'd never hear the end of it. The young viking took a moment to think before whispering to Julie."I got's an idea... I need ya to give me Flef, Julie," he remarked, turning his body in her direction and opening his arms to take the persistently noisy pokemon, his eyes still focused on his weapon. "We’re gonna need to make a run for it… so make sure your Chicken is ready, okay? We might need some more leaves just in case..."

Unconsciously, Julie huddled a little closer to Esben, as well. She hugged Flef closer but didn't look down at the pokemon, assuming, in her childish obliviousness, that the pokemon was just scared and uncertain like she was. She glanced at Esben when he snapped at the pokemon, but for once, didn't snap back at him in defense of it. Her arms simply encircled tighter around the pokemon, perhaps a little bit too much, but she blinked and relaxed when Esben asked for the pokemon.
"What.... what are you gonna do?" she whispered back, shying away a little. She hesitated,but slowly unwrapped her arms and handed the pokemon over, nodding. She looked over to where Chico was standing and gently called out his name, loud enough to get his attention. The pokemon turned his head slightly, glancing back, but didn't relent from his position-- there was no way he was letting whatever this was, get to his Julie. She was his trainer, and even if they'd only been traveling together a few days, he was going to protect her. He'd decided that since she first opened the pokeball, back with her brother. And even if he couldn't find him.... he was at least going to keep her from disappearing, too.

Esben’s focus was still on the spinning axe, wavering only briefly as Julie relinquished Flef to him. He could tell she was nervous and to be honest, so was he. It wasn’t often that he found himself in a situation such as this and while he couldn’t tell who or what was responsible for it, he didn’t want to wait to see what intentions it had with the tool.
"It’s okay! It’s a trick I learned from Eslik!" Esben said, tone mildly confident. He looked down at the excited Flef, the pokemon finally pausing to stare inquiringly at his trainer. "Alrigh’ Flef, now’s tha’ time to prove yer a warrior!" Flef stared back blankly at his trainer. Isi and Teeg (who had caught up once again to bear witness to the terrifying situation) also stared at him. Time to prove he was a warrior? Isi whined and looked to understand the meaning of this remark. Oh no.
There was a long moment of staring between boy and fluff ball before the later gave a delighted little chirp, as though giving confirmation that it understood it’s job. Great. Esben grinned and gave a firm nod.
"GO GET’EM FLEF!" He shouted and in a single swoop, raised the pokemon over his head and chucked the Danshen in the direction of the spinning axe, the pokemon chirping excitedly. Without delay, he turned and grabbed Julie’s wrist and started running the opposite direction. "C’mon Julie! Back to tha’ door!" he shouted, more so for his pokemon. They stared kind of dumbfounded save for Isi and Byr, who seemed to immediately recognize what was going on, beginning to stumble their way after the children, Teeg uncertainly eyeing the situation.
