Firekin Foray: The Abandoned Temple

User Image

Open: Now!
Close: ???

This ORP will run as long as needed to get to our conclusion, the goal is 2-3 weeks, max.
Hey, I mean, uh.. 4 weeks to get to the big reveal was pretty good right?
Only four weeks.
Right, guys?
Guys?

Along with a few members of the Mwezi'Johari, the Firekin have ventured over the mountains and into the desert where the Nergui had previously taken up residence. The trip over the mountains was a bit strange (owing to the lights and whispers that have become commonplace) but everybody made it over just fine.

The desert that the Nergui lived in is quiet, it does appear that it has been abandoned. A few signs even point to it being recent! But there are also signs that it is not completely empty. Everything, including the trail the Mwezi are following in hopes of finding their lost members, has led the group to the Abandoned Temple. Here is where most signs of activity in the area are found, along with a worn path leading to and from the nearby river, and here is where the search party has decided to focus their attention.

Current Situation

The temple is huge and fairly open, arranged like a town and not just a single building. A day is spent monitoring the area and only two lions are seen, nothing more. With the low activity level seen around the area, confidence is pretty high that you could all just wander right in and start looking without much problem.

The group has waited until nighttime to go investigate. The moon is high and bright above them, offering decent light for the night and encouraging the Mwezi lions. Your job is to look around and see what you find.

There are buildings in this temple, the rocky side of the area it's been built into may hide caves and there are open areas that you haven't been able to see much of from an outside vantage point. There are plenty of options! Where should we start?

Notes

  • The start is open-ended! You'll be splitting into groups and getting yourselves started before being guided through what you're finding and towards our goal.

  • Please add your current location to the top of your posts ( "Location: Structures" ) to try to keep track of who is where! It'll help you keep track of your group.

  • Participating in this ORP does count as your Firekin's outside RP needed to be promoted!

  • This ORP is starting with some dice but it is not a turn-based event ORP, you can play as usual.

  • If you have any Nergui characters lagging around their abandoned home, they aren't needed in this ORP but you're welcome to seek out RP with the Firekin/Mwezi after this one concludes. We will lay out what happened in the Nergui in this ORP!

Let the Search Begin!

Roll 1d4 (per character) to help your character(s) decide where they want to start their search. Split into groups this way and get started! In a few days, when people have had a chance to get started, posts will be made about what you're finding and things will begin to happen.

1 - Head for the structures, they stand out but they definitely offer good cover!
2 - Head for the rocks, a cave would be a better hiding spot with with all these obvious places around!
3 - Stay in the open areas, but check out along the edges!
4 - Stay in the open areas in the center, where you can see the bigger picture.

Ud is in the open area, checking the edges

Seen one desert, seen them all, apparently. It was nice to feel the sand under his paws again - although this sand seemed a bit rougher than the sands back home - and the view before Ud was fairly standard. Dunes spotted here and there through the flat expanse, a palm tree or two dotting the landscape, and a chill that one could only experience in a place where the lingering heat of the day had nowhere to go. The big difference was the temple.

Ud certainly hadn't expected anything like this, let alone how large it was. The great red lion paused, taking in the sight and everything around it. Crumbling rocks were stacked perfectly into structures that looked as if they once had a purpose. Now that purpose was long since gone, wind and sand wearing down the stone slowly but surely. He carefully walked in the open areas, all senses on high alert for any lingering Nergui as he inspected the edges of the temple.

---

Jens is heading for the structures

Jens was glad that they'd finally made it to the place they were going. He hadn't realized how long the journey would be, nor how hot a desert could get! He was used to the cold and snow, not the blazing heat of midday. How the Firekin could walk around under the sun was beyond him, but he was thankful for the dark skies of the evening even if they stretched far too long.

The snowy male stuck out for the structures, curious about what they could be or what they could harbor. He figured it might be a good place to seek shelter and perhaps the lions that had gone missing were camping out here. Worth a shot, at least!

Location: The Rocks / Caves

The journey over the mountains had been bizarre, to say the least, but for whatever reason, Harakhty found that returning here was even more so. He could officially say that living in the Mwezi had accustomed him to the plains, and feeling the sand beneath his paws once more left him feeling a bit nostalgic. Just as when he'd left though, the place was devoid of souls, bar the few wanderers who had no idea where they'd ventured.

The lion gave a sigh and watched as the group began to disperse, searching the area for any signs of the Nergui or the missing Mwezi lions. He debated where to start first, throwing a wistful look up at the temple, before shaking his head. If he were someone trying to hide, he'd go somewhere less obvious.

So instead, Har began making his way over to the large, overhanging rocks nearby. They were littered with caves and crevices that one could hide in; a perfect place to start.

And if part of his reasoning included not wanting to watch the temple become raided by searchers, well, that was his own prerogative.

They had arrived without much fuss. The camp of the Nergui seemed to be quiet, too quiet perhaps. She had joined the search party because it seemed like an interesting little adventure. She had been a rogue for long enough to know how to take care of herself so going over a mountain wasn’t really that big a deal.

Of course the strange temple they had come too was abandoned. Perhaps there never was anyone here. She watched for a long moment as the party split in to smaller groups and while the red lions were the ones that truly perked her interest she decided to follow after a smaller more blue member of the Mwezi.

She slipped silently up behind Jens brushing against his shoulder “Do you think there is anything here?” She purred, she had her doubts, though a wild goose chase was sort of an adventure it wasn’t the one the firekin had promised.

Atyadhik is heading for the rocks.

It was good to be in a desert again, though it wasn't the Firekin domain. It was familiar yet unfamiliar, and the structures only drove that home for Atya. She didn't want to delve into those yet, opting instead to head for the rocky area near them. There would be nooks and crannies among those, and maybe some caves as well. Hiding places.

Nyota'shuti is heading for the structures.

Great Lion, but it was hot out here. At least, it was during the daytime--during the night, Nyota found it became incredibly cold. It was cooling down now, with the moon high above them, and the lioness decided to follow the lead of a couple of her pride-mates and investigate the structures. Not only did they seem an obvious source of cover, but they seemed interesting.

Tawi glanced at Raia with a small frown. It had been a rather...tense trip...or so the blue lion assumed. Being in such close proximity with lions, especially ones he did not know always made the male uncomfortable. He found himself retreating in his mind, questioning why he had actually chosen to volunteer for this outing.

With a frown on his maw, Tawi watched as other members of the Firekin and Mwezi began to separate to start exploring. Some were heading towards the structure, while others the rock. Tawi figured it best to stay in the center. What exactly were they looking at here?

Silver eyes glanced around. Would Raia join him, or would she go off with the others?

Mstiri remained on his bond's back, staying quiet for the time being. He would follow either lion. He was also waiting to see what Brillo decided. If she went with Raia, he would stay with Tawi.

Baba'Nyota is heading for structures.

It was almost a disappointment how quiet it was here - Nyota had expected some kind of a scuffle or at least some kind of sign that someone was still here. But, it was quiet - the kind of quiet that came with an extended loss of residents, that cold, unlived feeling hanging over everything. Huffing his breath lightly, he waited for a moment while the group started to break up, watching what he could with his good eye, before deciding to follow the light blue lioness who had departed forward towards the structures that jutted out from the ground.

"Anything strike you as odd?" He started, quietly, as he caught up to where she was, giving the looming shadows in front of them, "Mind helping me with my blind spot?" It was a shot at being light-hearted, but serious, he completed it with a little grin, before looking forward again.

The trail led to the odd temple, and while it appeared mostly cold, Buvalu wasn't one who gave up, and the Firekin weren't of that sort either. Nor, it seemed, were the Mwezi'johari who were with them. It spoke well already of the pride his daughters had fallen in with. While he saw others head for the buildings and the open areas, he eyed the rocks and caves and made his way for those. If there were lions hiding, that would be the best place to start. Defensible, a good visual of anyone or anything coming, and just good hiding in general. He was careful to keep his guard up, and his eyes and ears open. Who knew what they might encounter in lands that were foreign to both prides.

[ Roll 1 = Titere'dido & Roll 2 = Raiatea ]

Travelling had been a silent affair. Even if Titere'dido had made side long glances at Nyx he didn't dare speak a word. The dark lion forced his thoughts to the tasks ahead. They would be scouting an area today, seeking out those areas in and around some territory nearby. Truth be told he hadn't taken the time to learn about this, but had focused as best he could while being briefed. The goal was to seek out a multitude of locations and upon arrival he bid farewell to Nyx silently as he headed for some rocks.

The rocks appeared to be undisturbed as he arrived, not a single paw print marred their surface, but there was nothing around to cause marks. He didn't investigate much more deeply than that, at least in regards to the surface. "What is that?" Ahead some caverns came into sight. Bingo. He hummed the excited word to himself and progressed forward with some slight stumbling. "These damn rocks." He mumbled to himself bitterly as he finally made his way to the caves entrance, fortunately the entrance was smooth and free from the little rocks and pebbles.

"There's plenty of space to hide, or become disoriented here." He spoke out loud, but finished with a silent thought - or to lay a trap. The thought caused the grown lion to tremble beneath his pelt, though the rest of him remained composed under the pressure, well fear. Selfishly he thought of Nyx to ease him, what followed the thought surprised him, it was relief. At least he was here, not her, she was safe.

---

Raiatea had been silent as well, though not for the sake of focusing on the task, nor for loving glances at her husband. Tawi for his part had appeared to do the same. Brillo had tapped the back of her head, an annoying pet peeve she picked up at some point, and even managed a small chirp. Which was unlike the avian, but so much of this situation was unlike the small family unit. Her previously appeased attitude had fallen once more.

Even with all of the issues she was working to overcome she wasn't entirely mad enough to leave the side of her husband. "It makes sense if we stay here. Brillo can give her wings a go and Mstiri can help her. They can be our eyes in the sky." She spoke without a question, but answered like there had been one. Raia simply figured that Tawi was considering tactically, what could they truly offer? As young adults they had no worldly experience to offer beyond the trivial moments where their decisions truly began to impact one another. These experiences lead them to where they were today.

Lead them to their family.

"Mstiri, you don't mind that do you?" The birds had bonded as well as expected. Brillo seemed bitter about some unspoken troubles, but nevertheless had warmed up to the family. Raia had caught a glance or two from the avians that had her wondering about what may really be going on, but not a single word had been spoken - not to her. "If you do.. Brillo and I can search somewhere else. Maybe her wing won't even work?" Bitters tones mixed with her genuine attitude of trying to seek out some form of information, any information.

"Though I'm not sure what we are looking for exactly." That wasn't entirely the truth. They had been shared information, of course, but she wasn't feeling like being exact. Not today.

While Nyx would have liked to slink through all of the areas one by one she knew that there was also some merit in the lion that stayed behind, out of sight, and watched the world around them. Despite the pale moonlight glinting off of the shinier fur along her spine, her dark pelt lent well to the night. She took her place next to the other lions that had their eyes upon their surroundings though she watched, with no small concern, as Titere's glimmering gold head disappeared bit by little bit into the distance and towards the cave.

He would go and scout it out while she kept her eyes peeled as his lookout - hopefully it went smoothly and she wouldn't be given a reason to put her speed to a test this night.

-

There was nothing on the Great Lion's earth that would have stopped Rive from coming with this group of lions even if he wasn't the strongest or most successful warrior. Luckily, Kimondo seemed inclined to agree with his heart and he found himself surrounded by a group of capable Mwezi and Firekin alike. It gave him a little hope that maybe, just maybe, his sweet Ljena would come back to him unharmed.

Of course, he could not entirely ignore that overwhelming sense of dread that was gnawing at the pit of his belly.

He needed to move and search and hunt. With a look of concentration plastered across his pale face he set forward toward the The Structures without waiting to see who knew him and might tag-along. They seemed like a logical place to be hiding his daughter - there were so many places she could be tucked away, unawares that her father was close to clawing the stones apart to find her.

The excitement that had been buzzing through her blood had begun to wore off the longer than Huolongmai traveled with the group. She had felt rather blessed to be allowed into the scouting party; she knew that she could look Firekin, with her deep red coat, but she knew that her size had probably won out; along with the scale-like fur patterns along her nose and head. She twitched her nose, catching familiar and unfamiliar scents as her paws sunk into the sand. This desert carried a lot of similarities to her homelands, and yet there was a distinct difference in the air here. It reminded her that the task at hand was a serious one, and she scolded herself for letting her mind wander.

She soaked in as much light from the moon as she could, letting her olive eyes determine what the best course of action should be. She felt it was foolish to enter into an area that wasn't cleared; who knew what could be hiding within these strange structures? Nergui, more than likely. So she set to her self-assigned task, walking along the edge of the clearing, letting her ears swivel this way and that to pick up any sounds that may pass by. She swore she heard the wingbeats of a bird...perhaps an owl? The night was always a perfect time to hunt, rodents crawling everywhere to avoid the direct beating of the sun.

She kept looking around at her companions in the search party too; there was no need to let herself stray too far from the opening....to be caught alone in strange lands would be a dangerous task indeed.

User Image

Horae had been careful to keep her temper in check. This was the most trying task she had been assigned to, regardless of the fact she volunteered. Her heart was left in Mwezi, and it was hard to not let her mind wander to her family back home. She only hoped that the guard would finally step up to the task of making sure no one else went missing. If anything happened to her family, or even Kasih...Horae willed her heart to calm down. She knew that she would never be able to pull herself back from a loss like that. She was a very willful, focused lioness, and ever since she had to see her sister's heart break the dark-coated lioness had tipped into a unapologetic brute. It was only having those she kept close to her heart nearby that reminded her there was more to life than just anger.

Having three of her fellow pride members disappear under the guard's watchful eye though...that brought back a lot of old scars and anger to the surface. She had felt obligated to help bring them back, and was grateful to the Great Lion that the Queen had allowed her to join the scouting party.

The moon was high tonight, its soft glow a comfort in these strange lands. She was completely unused to the feel of sand, to the smells that tickled her nose as the group began to splinter off. As her eyes watched a few fellow Mwezi wander towards the buildings, she decided to stay where she was. The moon's cool glow felt like home, and to be honest....this was the most uncertain she had ever felt. To leave the gentle gaze of the Great Lion seemed like a mistake, and so she kept with a few fellow scouting members, watching and waiting to see if any signs would emerge.
