Ribbit. Plop. Splash. Ribbit. Plop. Splash.
Anyone looking in would have been enormously confused at whatever the small male cheetah was doing, but Daichi was on a mission. He was sure that this was a momma frog, and said frog had kids, and he wanted to see the kids! What did baby frogs look like, he wondered. Just tinier frogs? Well, he'd find out today, even if it meant he had to follow in the footsteps - hopsteps? - of this seemingly oblivious frog.
Which... basically consisted of him hopping after the frog in the middle of the shallow end of a small pool of water. He completely ignored the fact that, shallow or not, the water was still up to his elbows, and each movement from him caused the water to go cascading to either side of him. Apparently the frog had chosen to ignore that too.

So into his 'stalking', Daichi didn't notice his sister nearby... or the sudden dip in the water until it was too late. Frogs can swim and, more importantly, float, he would later find out.
His next hop sent him tumbling into the water with a muffled yelp, his tail flailing above the surface before being submerged as well. This was also how he found out that you can't breathe water, and once he resurfaced, he was coughing and sputtering to rid himself of the wetness. Luckily for him, this was a small pool and even the trench he'd gotten himself into was not deep enough that he couldn't stand on his hind legs to keep himself above water. From underwater, he probably looked like he was standing on two feet.
That was when he realized that the frog he'd been following had startled and taken off somewhere. Unsure of where it could have gone, he just stood there, pouting.

Daichi spared a glance at his sister as she came running over, and then looked away again, too stubborn to stop pouting. Finally, he sighed grudgingly, "I'm fine," he said with an attempt at waving Sumiko off. She was always such a worry wort.
He did perk up when she mentioned helping him find more frogs, but, unwilling to let go quite yet, he whined, "But the one I was looking for is a momma frog." Maybe. "I wanted to see what baby frogs looked like." Were they tiny? Did they do tiny little hops or just squirmed around on the ground? He wanted to know!

"I don't know," he said with a look down at his paws, "... but probably like... a tiny frog, right?"
Daichi jutted out his bottom lip as she asked why and then swam away, before scrambling in the water after her. "We see frogs all the time, but not tiny frogs. What if they're the size of... of..." He glanced around to try and think of something. Lifting a paw, he extended one little claw out, "Of a claw! Wouldn't that be interesting?"
That said, he also started looking around for more frogs. After all, he had to start over now anyway.

Asking would certainly be faster, he thought with a frown, although he'd wanted to try and do it himself. Of course, doing it himself had ended... well, he was still soaked, let's put it that way. (not that he'd EVER admit that one of his ideas hadn't gone the way it was supposed to)
Daichi thought about her suggestion for a minute, tilting his head back and forth while he mulled over it, and then adopted a determined look on his face. He wanted to see one, and if that meant dragging an elder over here and probably being lectured on frogs, he'd do it.
With puffed up cheeks, he turned to Sumiko, "Okay, fine." And then he turned and started charging off to find an older person. "C'mon, Sumiko!"

Sumiko sniffed the air and looked around she stalked quietly along the edge of the pool of water watching her brother trying to figure out what he was doing. She preferred to take things slower watch a situation before diving into it. She figured she would watch Daichi and see what he did before she got herself into the situation as well.
