Thanatos had wandered away from the pride of lions who had offered to take care of him, he wasn't sure what he wanted but he decided he didn't want to stay with them. That was how he found himself at a large wall that he followed and then a bunch of bushes he wiggled his way through the bushes and looked about it felt a bit darker on this side but he still wanted to look around even though his instincts were telling him he should go right back the way he had come and get out of this pride land.

Everything had been happening quickly. A little too much so for Dharau's liking, if he was honest. He liked a bit of danger, just a spot of drama, as much as the next lion - and probably more. You know, as long as he was being honest. Even still, there was a limit on the level of turmoil even he could take, and the crowning of their King had hit it hard. The coronation had been pretty much the last time Dharau felt like he had a handle on events.

Especially with that rock slide. He had gone off to find Licha - and rightfully so - while others had investigated. And what they had found... Well, that was what changed everything, didn't it? Changed enough that Dharau needed some seldom-taken time away from everyone to process it all. That was why the ezinulo caught himself wandering close to the border. Fearfully close, now that he thought about it, to lands too holy for him to set paw in. He was fairly certain he knew where that boundary was, if it happened to come up.

He was also fairly certain - alright, maybe something like sixty-percent certain - that he'd be forgiven for crossing over if he'd done so to stop some undue trespass, much like the patch of cream wiggling at the corner of his eye.

Sliding into a crouch, the roseate lion made his way through the brush. Warily, artfully, he inched his way closer to the unexpected intruder.

Thantos didn't have much of a life so far to look back on, he didn't seem to have a mommy or daddy to look after him, he perhaps could have had a lion pride to look after him, but he wandered away and ended up here instead alone. Perhaps Thantos had a death wish or perhaps he was looking for others of his own kind who could say what was going through the little waterbucks head as he moved along. He felt like there was someone watching him but he continued on ignoring them and looking for a small spot he could wiggle into to hide from whoever it was. Even Thantos at his age knew there were plenty of creatures who would love to eat him for dinner.

Ugh, it was good thing the hunters couldn't see him now. His shoulders were all wrong. Steps that weren't quite high enough left leaves and loam rustling in his wake. His tail, too, seemed to join in the rebellion, betraying his tension and refusing to remain still even for a minute. Dharau rolled his eyes. His father would have said that there was a reason he had chosen to teach instead of do.

It was a wonder the intruder hadn't heard him yet, honestly. It smelled like prey, and generally speaking, hooved beasts were a skittish lot. Spent their whole lives running, after all, from Death with pointed claws. The green-eyed male lifted his head slightly, nose twitching after his ever-closer target. Maybe it was a bit foolish, having wandered in here. Maybe it was lame.

Or, maybe... The lion frowned. Maybe the smell of milk and general newness meant that killing this intruder would be more of a mercy than anything. Rising from his crouch, Dharau had never been less happy to be right. This waterbuck was only a babe! "Where are your parents, little one?" He asked, voice low - and angry. For their sakes, any parents who would let their child wander into a literal den of lions had better already be dead.

Thantos looked up at the lion, he hadn't really figured out a fear in them "I don't have any parents." He said in a firm tone "Don't remember my mama, where are your parents?" He asked in an innocent tone. If this male lion could ask him about his parents that he didn't have he could ask the lion about his parents too. He blinked his big eyes up at the big lion, what did lions eat anyway? He ate grass.

Dharau's frown deepened. Bold little scrap, wasn't he? But then, with no parents to teach him otherwise, he supposed it should be expected. Though he'd have thought that prey's fear of predators would be instinctual.

"I don't have any parents, either." It was a nicer answer than the alternative, although why he was so into sparing this tiny steak's feelings was beyond Dharau. He liked kids, sure. But surely it was better that someone teach this one how the world worked than allow him to keep blundering into danger.

"Do you have any guardians at all? Who is supposed to be watching you?" Now that he wasn't trying to be stealthy, the male was a good deal more graceful. Dharau's form slid closer to the baby buck through the grass, moving to encircle him. Unless he resisted, the lion's prowl would seek to herd him closer to the hole in the wall from whence he'd come - and farther away from Nezi land.

Thantos lost some of his bravado when the lion said he didn't have parents either it seemed they were both alone in this world. "Well I could go back to the lioness who wanted to take care of me, she was nice, but I wandered off and ended up here. I don't know if I want to live there." Thantos moved away from the lion back the way he had come. He wouldn't stay here and adventure if he wasn't welcome. He would figure out where he belonged when he was ready. He didn't think the big lion cared what Thantos's name was so he didn't offer his name.

A lioness was taking care of him? The lion's mouth worked, possibly to ask the little waterbuck to repeat himself in just that incredulous a tone, but nothing came out. His jaw set, almost reluctantly silent. Talk about someone playing with their food! Dharau couldn't decide if the idea was brilliant, disgusting, hilarious, or one of the cruelest things he had ever heard. Clinched one thing, though: the world outside of the Nezi'ozu was mad. Absolutely mad.

"Well, that was terrible of you. You shouldn't wander away from your guardians, especially if they only want the best for you." And maybe this mystery lioness did? After all, if she'd wanted to kill the small fry, surely she had multiple opportunities. Dharau had only just met him, and could count the near-death experiences on all four paws and his tail. "I'd bet she's worried sick about you, even now. Here you are, trying to find an adventure - and you've left a sweet lady behind, crying over you. What a shame."

Time spent around a number of cubs meant that the green-eyed male had a look of disappointment second-to-none, and he plied it now. Even as he pressed closer, downcast eyes and a disapproving frown turned in the young buck's direction, lending mute emphasis to the lion's words.

Thantos wasn't going to argue with a lion, he didn't think he wanted to return to her either. He would figure out his own fate and design for his life just not here in this strange land of death. Chifundo would be fine without him. He wiggled his way back through the bushes and out of the strange lion's land.

Dharau maintained his stony demeanor until the last twitch of cream-colored tail vanished on the other side of the scrub. After that, though, his expression gentled. Still frowning, but softer, a contemplating look instead of a stern one. Who was he to feel concerned about whether or not the kid walked to his death? Someone should be around to escort him - and that wasn't his responsibility. Certainly not. His leaving the pride was out of the question, as was the kid;s staying around without becoming an erstwhile snack.

He snorted to think of it. Imagine, his approaching the Onyeisi with appeals of sanctuary for a meal. They let in one pregnant rogue, and suddenly everyone and everything is good enough to hang around the Nezi'ozu.

No, it was for the best that one find his own path out there, far away from him. Like as not, it would end in the belly of something bigger anyway. Shrugging his shoulders, Dharau rose and began to pick his way back toward the main body of the pride. Death was inexorable, after all. That was a lesson that life would teach better than he ever could.
