The Painted Egg
Prompt 1

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Spring has arrived in Tendaji; in most places flowers were blooming while others might only see a slight temperature increase. The weather was nice so you decide to take a stroll. As you leave town and enter a small clearing, you notice strange colorful dots all throughout the grass.

"Oh stop right there!"

Freezing, you stop with your foot hovering just a breath above the grass and then as you slowly take one step backwards you notice that something colorful had been nestled against the ground. What was this? A Gaein girl comes forward and offers a big smile, "Thank you for stopping! You nearly crushed the egg." From there she explains that the whole field is full of colorful eggs that she had spread out for the villagers to find. Apparently in Belrea this time of year is a time for festivities and one of their most popular games is finding brightly dyed eggs that children create with their parents who later hide them away. As a member of the Academy she had been granted permission to come and share this knowledge with those in Tendaji and so offers to allow you to play with those already shifting through the wide expanse of fields.

[ Roll a 1d20 to determine what happens during your hunt!]
1. You are reaching out for an egg when it suddenly floats away! What in the? But then you notice wings behind it. A sprite is trying to steal your egg away!
2. You find a total of 8, totally normal, painted eggs!
3. You pick up what appears to be an egg but doesn't have the same weight a normal egg should have and you notice a line down the center. As you pull the two halves apart, a strange vial [an eye of the goddess] falls out!
4. You find a total of 2, totally normal, painted eggs!
5. You pick up an egg but later begin to smell something foul coming from your bag, it seems that you picked up a rotten egg!
6. You feel a bit competitive and run around as fast as you can to collect every egg, too bad a little boy just left with a basket full!
7. Oh no, watch your step! You accidentally step on and break an egg!
8. You find a total of 10, totally normal, painted eggs!
9. You find an extra large egg hidden in some tall grass. Later, it hatches into a Xaraan!
10. You're a little late to the party, all the younglings have already gathered all the eggs before you even got a chance, how sad!
11. You find a total of 5, totally normal, painted eggs!.
12. You hear a quiet scratching noise coming from a slightly larger painted egg you just picked up. It later hatches into a Sailscale!
13. You find a total of 1, totally normal, painted egg!
14. As you're walking, you hear a strange noise coming from the bushes. A keldari pops out at you! Whether you get startled or just shoo it away, a few eggs fall out of your basket and crack as they hit the ground.
15. You find a total of 3, totally normal, painted eggs!
16. You're walking towards a particular egg when you feel something beneath your foot as you take a step. Whew! Close call, you move your foot and the egg remains unharmed and you add it to your basket!
17. You find a total of 15, totally normal, painted eggs!
18. You feel your basket start to wiggle a bit and then hear giggling. As you look down, you see a youngling taking your eggs! They make off with 4 of your eggs before you have a chance to stop them!
19. You find an unpainted egg. Figuring it's not a part of the egg hunt, you leave it alone and continue on.
20. It seems that something is weird about one of the eggs you've picked up. As you stare at it the egg begins to wobble and even glows from the inside?! It later hatches into a Sitara!

Callum loved Spring, even if he was welcoming the season in Sauti; the wasteland of Tendaji.

There was a certain excitement in the golden hued air that quickly became infectious. For months Callum had shifted between his new 'normal' lifestyle and something akin to depression; a fluctuation that only ever 'leveled out' around his children. He wanted to make sure their lives were as full and pleasant as could be, which meant doing all the things young people should in corresponding seasons.

He'd been traveling with his baby girl for a while now when the Geian stopped them. It had been time to head out, to seek other settlements as it were, but then this little hand snatched his arm, tugging him away from a cluster of....painted eggs?

Callum passed her a quizzical look; he'd never really talked to a Geian before, though he'd seen them from time to time. She smiled to both Ygraine and himself, an energy buzzing through her that reminded him of insects in Jauhar.

"Thank you for stopping! You nearly crushed the egg."

As it turned out the foreigner had brought her own Spring traditions to Sauti, and the whole thing had Callum intrigued. It was, admittedly, weird to hunt for colored eggs with strangers, but who was he to judge?

"How about it, Ygraine? Think you can find more than me?"

Her papa had gotten a bit of a pep to his step, in the last few days, with the oncoming of spring, and yet to be completely honest Ygraine couldn't say that she saw much of a difference in Sauti's weather. The golden mists were still as thick and ominous to her as ever, and she could only nod with a quiet 'uh-huh' of agreement when her father excitedly stated that spring had come.

Yeah, sure. If you say so.

Happening upon the Geian woman, however, did help to give the Alkidike girl a bit of childish excitement. She looked at the woman with curiosity, intrigued by her coloration - but her face lit up as she explained their tradition. Painted eggs! How adorable!

Ygraine smirked at her father, in challenge, chuckling at his words. "Oh ho! Lets see, daddy." And with a final wicked flash of teeth she scooped up the eggs he'd very nearly quashed, drawing the hem of her overskirt up and dropping them safely into it, sticking out her tongue as she trotted away, tilting her head to look for more.

[2/7]

Cheeky little brat.

Callum couldn't help laughing at Ygraine's childish display. This wasn't something he'd planned to do with his only daughter, nor was it entirely something a man of his years should do, but it was encouraging to be able to do something so freely with her. It was strange, seeing that expression on a growing woman, but all Callum could see in his mind's eye was a little girl, hair full and thick around her little ears, sticking her tongue out at him as she followed her own path.

He stepped out onto the 'field', and scanned the area. It wasn't hard to find the bright little eggs, but it was tricky finding any that didn't have a child going after it. The swordsman couldn't bring himself to take anything from a little one, but Ygraine...

Well, was it really so bad that he used his lean body and fast movements to not only catch up with her, but to steal an egg right from under her nose? Surely not; it was all just a game after all. The jaunty little turn he made away from her though....that may have been rubbing things in a bit.

And to cement that he saluted her before going off in search of more.

[2/7]

Father and daughter both seemed intent on preserving the surrounding childrens' happiness, as they resisted greedily snatching up the brightly colored eggs.

She had finally spotted one - adjusting her skirt so she didn't spill her hard won spoils as she ducked down -only for her father to catch up to her. With that dancer's grace, he not only plucked it from beneath her outstretched fingers, but seemed so utterly pleased about it.

Pale eyes widened in playful outrage, juxtaposed against the amused grin that broke across her face.

"Oooh-- you!" She laughed, making a show of shaking her fist, before twirling to look, hopefully, for more.

Children had already picked over the field, but eggs could be hiding in the crags of the rocky Sauti landscape quite easily - she just had to look, thoroughly. But even as she scoured for more, she only found a measly allotment of two more eggs.

"Come on, Ygraine, you're not really going to let me win are you? I know you're faster than that!" Callum flicked the egg around his nimble fingers before slipping it into a pouch at his side. It wasn't nearly large enough to hold a full clutch of eggs, as it was mainly used for edible roots and other such snacks, but for now it freed his hands for the task ahead.

He stayed close to her, skimming just on the edges of her perimeter with a playful grin pulling at his features the entire time. Part of the reason for this was so that he could be sure to stay away from the children's hunt, and also to mess with his daughter. He so rarely got to do it that he may have been having a little more fun than originally intended.

Still, he didn't find another egg until much later. The little ones seemed to have picked the landscape over, but in their rush they failed to check the crags. Getting down onto his knees, Callum peered back into a crack in the stone, spotting a little green egg. How in the hell did anyone get it in there? Maybe it fell through? Callum shuffled closer to the stone and reached his arm through, just barely skimming the egg. Scrunching his features, he pressed further and further with no avail.

Finally he sat back with a huff and got the bright idea to contort his upper half into the hole. First his arms slid through, then he wriggled his head in and when enough of his shoulders were in he finally got it.

For a brief moment Callum was proud of himself and grinning like a mad man, only....to discover he couldn't get back out.
