Name: Scylla Aberswith
Stage: Prentice
Race: Geian / Lightning
Gender: Female
3 Base Traits: Assertive, Vindictive, Stylish
Personality:
Scylla is keenly aware of herself, her capabilities, and her goals. That being said, she isn't likely to back down from doing whatever it takes to reach those goals, either. This is a person who has no fear of speaking her mind, whether it's warranted or not, and will try to convince others into seeing things the same way she does. She can easily bulldoze over more passive personalities simply because if they don't speak up she doesn't see them as 'worthy' enough to have an opinion. However, should she meet someone just as dominant as herself, will fight until she's thoroughly beaten and will likely respect them all the more for challenging her.

From her parents she inherited a vengeful personality. Despite her alpha-esque personality, Scylla is slow to anger, but that doesn't make her calm. She takes slights against her and her family very seriously, often going out of her way to seek retaliation. And in those moments where her rage is fueled to a boiling point, she can be downright vindictive. In verbal arguments she'll seek out the most cutting information she has on her opponent, cutting them down with little regard to any lasting emotional wounds. (ex. "You're smart enough for a come back, but still too stupid to know when you're girlfriend is cheating on you?") It's given the reputation of a 'bristly b***h', and as terrible as her actions can be at times, at the very least it means that Scylla has a keen eye for details. It's helped her disarm her opponents from time to time, and occasionally, her father will praise her for the amount of knowledge she's able to log away on a person.

Scylla has long since been known as the fashion forward member of her family. It was not born out of a love of clothing, however; rather, it was a need. As the youngest it was inevitable that she would gain her sisters hand me downs, but in order for her parents to remain in the good graces of the public, despite several financial pit falls, they needed to keep up with the trends. She taught herself to sew, how to take apart garments and refashion them to fit the season's newest look. Her hobby gained ground with her sisters; while her sewing isn't the best it's enough for them to pass off ordinary dresses as unique pieces, and with a family as large as hers it pays to have a live in tailor.

She finds the task a helpful stress reliever. Scylla is a sham at housework, fails at cooking, and isn't much of a people pleaser, but this...this she can do. It's something that brings a smile to her family's faces, and allows her to be of some use to them.

Description:

Skin || A lighter shade of Geian skin
Crystals ll A single beauty mark and the rest are on her spine
Eyes ll (right) & (left) with Lightning pupils
Hair ll - This in the back with these bangs
Ears ll Pointed, like a lightning

Scylla is of an average height, with above average curves, and sharp features. Her eyes are cutting in anger, but in her vulnerable moments they make Scylla look all the smaller.

Clothing: The Belrean equivalent to this, minus the hat and parasol. Also if the sleeves could be straight continuations of the jacket all the way to the wrists, without the added 'frills', that would be wonderful. Same or similar colors preferred.

Accessories: Standard lobe (decorative, dangly piercings), upper lobe (studs), and helix (small hoop or stud) - x; all should be silver. Any other jewelry / accessories non - piercing related is completely up to the artist.

History: Scylla is the youngest child of four. Her parents, while very doting to their children, rarely spend any time together as a couple. Erven works long hours as a Captain in the Sector of Security, while Valphina devotes herself to teaching. While both reside in the city of Valmon, neither live in the same home, and thus, rarely see each other unless it's to discuss something dealing with their children. The distance isn't out of hatred, however; rather, an arrangement that was made long ago by two very close friends.

When Val first discovered she was pregnant at the tender age of nineteen Erven stepped up, and vowed to do what he could for her and their unborn child. It had been an accident; something entirely unplanned, unprepared for, but not unwelcome. It was hard at first. And yet, by banding together the pair were able to succeed. They knew they were never destined to be a romantic couple; they tried, arguments ensued, they tried again, and Valphina left. Now they co-parent much more efficiently, and with much more respect towards one another, with a couple blocks separating them.

And yet, they remained loyal to one another. Erven saw no need for another woman to carry his children, and Val was always too dedicated to her work to bother seeking out another man. So, while they weren't a 'traditional' couple, the friends with benefits made a family together. It was always understood that when (or if) their true love came the arrangement would come to an end but after twenty years the pair seem stronger than ever.

In those twenty years they raised four children; three lovely, spirited girls, and one decidedly strange one.

Scylla was a relatively normal child with a pair of decidedly abnormal eyes. Her mother dismissed any concerns involving them, and attributed the quirk to a defect in the womb. As far as they were able to tell her sight hadn't been effected by it; it was simply a physical anomaly, a trait that granted her the hue of both her parents, and that was that.

Her sisters were quick to grow accustomed to the baby's oddness, after all, as a mixed family, they were all a little different. The 'others', those stragglers in the neighborhood, were not so quick to let it go. Scylla was bullied because of them for a time. Rumors were started that Val had taken another lover, was dabbling too much in her cups while pregnant, among all manner of nasty gossip. Whatever the case Scylla's eyes were deemed an easy target so that the community could dig at the decidedly odd family. Because, after all, the children themselves weren't the only ones to talk; many learned the skill from their parents

Valphina was infuriated when she found out. Those taunts held no more truth than fairytales, and to have her daughter's head filled with that sort of nonsense was nothing short of an outrage. Her sisters reassured her that even when Scylla hadn't been there their family had been the butt of a few jokes, despite their parents wealth and social standing. They were just 'odd'; in a while her eyes wouldn't even matter and people would go back to their own lives.

And so they did. While her physical anomaly still caught the eye of strangers those she spent time with on a daily basis quickly grew used to it. In the time between the end of her youth and the start of her teenage years Scylla built up a resistance to those that would bring her down. She gained her mother's sharp wit and tongue, but her father's dominant nature; one that collided with others time and time again.

When she stayed with her mother Scylla learned the proper way to research, and when she was with her father Scylla trained her body to defend. It was easy to see that the girl had the same affinity for fighting that her father had. She had a keen eye, and while her strikes may not have been the hardest to hit they came, one right after the other, to the point where street fights that usually resulted in black eyes for her turned into victories.

Erven stressed restraint with Scylla, and it stuck, for the most part. She picked less fights, and her skills helped to keep the bullies at bay, since gossip is quick to spread. The act of learning more about her bodies capabilities earned her the confidence needed to make at least one friend; the son of a baker, Oghran.

Oghran cared little for how infrequently she talked, or how in a moments notice, Scylla could hike up her shirt just to kick a thief in the tenders. While she and her sisters are close, it is in Oghran that she confides the most, forming with him an almost brotherly bond. She knows that her father expects her to follow his footsteps, and Scylla fully intends to do so, but the pressure of being an 'exemplary' child often weighs on her.

[IC she'll start out as roughly 15 years old]

Hey so she seems pretty well fleshed out already but I had a few questions to get things rolling...

So far her personality is very bold. Does she ever have any softer moments? Or is she not much of one for kindness? Is she any different with her family interactions in comparison with outsiders? Is she still just as tough with Oghran for example or is most of her aggressive traits just a defense created against those that would bully her?

Is she a loner type or does she have friends/seek out others ? Or is she just content having Oghran as her friend?

Also, out of curiosity her father expects her to fight but will she ever consider becoming a clothing designer / seamstress. Or is that more of a current necessity for coin / hobby that she won't think much of it the future once she settles into a fighter path?

Since neither of her parents were ever the 'overly cuddly' type of people Scylla grew into that kind of mindset herself. She isn't kind in the traditional sense; compliments, sweet treats and such just aren't tossed around with this girl. However, that isn't to say she's completely cold. Around her family she's a little more relaxed, since there isn't as much of an image to uphold, and while she still gets a little rough around Oghran, she has been known to crack the (albeit rare) joke around him. For her sisters she'll help re purpose their old dresses into 'newer' models and little things like that to surprise them.

I'd say a lot of her abrasive behavior is a shield of sorts, yes. She carries herself high, with a sort of haughty attitude, so that others will be too intimidated to poke at her. It's something she inherited from her parents as well, so at this point in her life she doesn't see it as anything 'bad'. She will, however, see later on that it isn't such a great thing to be an arrogant b***h all the time and that it's okay to treat others as she would Oghran. Small steps, mind you; she'll likely always be pretty stiff.

At this point in her life she's content with Oghran. She's got three sisters as well, and they're all fairly close in age. So, while her sisters may be a little more extroverted Scylla is just fine where she's at. In her opinion it's better to have one good, solid friend than a handful you can't trust (i.e. she's heard one too many stories about her sisters' friends stabbing them in the back over stupid stuff and she's pretty chill with Oggy, thank you very much)

I think at this point in her life being anything other than what her father expects is a pipe dream. She knows she's talented with needle and thread, but it's more of a hobby. Scylla knows she could choose any number of paths, but she's rather fond of fighting, too. Seeing her skill set expand, watching as her father and his co-workers pepper her with compliments...it's a rush in it's own right. Scylla knows that one day she could help to instill order and peace within Belrea, and while clothing design is fun she wouldn't feel right doing it all the time; not when her hands could be used for helping others.
