It had been about a week now.

Once again, Vaatia was upon the borders of the Viking pride. He once again looked up and down the rocky formations that jutted out from the earth. It really was quite the sight to see! Both beautiful and intriguing in it's own unique way. The land in front of the rocky borders was ever so slightly stained with battles and duels of other outsiders who had wished to join the pride. Vaatia didn't quite understand why it seemed to be such a hot spot for other outsiders, but he did know why he was here. Why he came back. In his previous challenge, Vaatia had lost to his mate's captain. He had kind of expected it, for he didn't know the full strength and prowess of the other male. Now though, having fought the captain and learned how he danced, he believed that in this round, he could win. He had to win. If not now, then eventually. It was his only way of being accepted into the pride, and he was doing it all for her.

Standing tall and breathing in deeply, he clenched his teeth together and let out a bellowing roar, once again calling out to the male he had lost to previously. He wanted a rematch and he knew the male would probably be waiting.

He was here, of COURSE he was here. Nothing could take him away from this rock. This was his rock, even when he was away on raids, the other lions knew to come nowhere near it. Or there would be consequences, or at least that had always been the rumor. Truth be told, he'd likely just shoo em off with a good stern mean look and talking to. But he'd be damn sure they knew not to tell another living soul. But he knew it would never come to that. He was feared here, and that was how he liked it. It was simpler that way. Then others didn't find out about his soft mushy insides.

Lost in his own thoughts, as was usual, he only caught the tail end of the roar but he knew who it was immediately and he jumped to his feet. Immediately staring the other male who stepped forward for the challenge. This one was his, and that was just how it was going to be. With a smile on his face he walked out into the opening and grinned from ear to ear. "I expect you came here to win today?!"

Vaatia's eyes dashed over to the other male that had initially responded to his challenge, but also was fortunate enough to see that he almost immediately backed down, having received a rather amusing stare down from the male that he had wanted to take up his challenge. A smile appeared over his maw as the battered older white male stepped out.

"But of course! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! I won't lose again, Captain." He would not lose again. He didn't want to and he didn't NEED to. He NEEDED to be in there, with his mate. It was very important to him that he was... For reasons that no one needed to know about at the moment.

Val let out a hearty laugh at Vaatia's remark, he was taking quite the liking to this lion whether he liked it or not. "Well,, truth be told, i'm kinda in your corner on this one. I'd actually like to see an opponent win for once. Not to say that I plan to go easy on you, but it would be nice to see you win." Dipping his head to the male in respect, he slowly backed away from him to be ready for his first attack. Which he prepared to launch right about now. Launching from his feet he planned to swipe at the male's feet and give him some small ligatures along the ankle region. Something that would give him pain throughout the fight. But what really happened was more of a swat on the male's leg and a face full of dirt for the older male. The feeling of anger was brewing inside the male as he attempted to pull himself from his feet.

Only just barely and ever so slightly stepping out of the way of Val, Vaatia felt like... Some pawing on his leg? Whipping around and seeing the older white male pretty much just faceplant into the ground... Well... It was funny. Really funny. Vaatia's black paws instantly went up to his maw, stifling his immediate snickers. He didn't want the captain to hear that, for he was sure that he felt absolutely embarrassed about what had just happened. Shaking his head and regaining his composure, Vaatia quickly launched himself right back at Val, kind of in a slingshot motion. His black claws unsheathed and he landed squarely on the male's backside, grabbing onto his mane and twisting his claws around inside of it, gripping it tightly.

"Is today not your day, old man?" Vaatia smiled, for it seemed that fate was on his side today! "I'd be careful not to move too much, unless you'd like to have less of your mane."

Val roared in shock more than anything as Vaatia jumped on top of him. It took him a long minute to realize what was actually happening. He had to kinda silently agree with Vaatia though, it really didn't seem like today was his today. The thing that really set him off though was the threat against his mane, no one, and he meant no one messed with his mane! It was likely one of the only things he would commit bodily harm over - outside of a challenge that is. The male had to thin quick on his feet as the other drove his claws deeper and deeper into his skin. When suddenly he had a bad but rational at the moment thought. Pushing off on his front legs he stood squarely on his hind legs for a moment before falling backwards right onto Vaatia and his own back. Vaatia mostly cushioned his fall, but he did entail some bits of pain from it. Rustling his way quickly away from Vaatia he ran sideways across the field to catch his breath before attempting another attack.

"OOF!" Having been suddenly CRUSHED by this rock of a lion, Vaatia huffed and puffed, literally having the wind knocked right out of him. He surely hadn't been expecting that! His claws loosened up significantly from within Val's mane, but not enough that he didn't still have the advantage. Right before the older white lion managed to squirm away, Vaatia had purposely left a single black claw out, snipping off the very bottom of the great captain's mane-beard-thing. He didn't even need to try to do it, as the captain pulling away from him did all the work. Grasping it within his paw as he watched Val rustle away, Vaatia knew that he was in for a treat.

"Tired, sir?", he called out, taking the tiny bit of end mane and tucking it behind his ear like a flower. He smiled coyly as he looked up at it and then back to Val. "What do you think? It's quite dashing with my pelt!"

Valbergur turned back around at the sound of Vaatia's voice and his eyes wide with both shock, anger and a mix of something even his couldn't identify! All these different emotions that he'd felt separately before but never all at once. He was having difficulty processing them. The male's chest began to beat fast in his chest and his breathing became very heavy as a paw raised to his chest to reveal that his beard had indeed been cut. A piece of him was missing, and it would never come back. That piece had been there since he was born, and now this silly male wore it as a joke! It was infuriating! Valbergur's rage built up inside of him until he couldn't take it anymore, Claws unsheathed and prepared for battle Valbergur took off at full speed at Vaatia. The minute he made contact, the whole area heard it! It made a loud crash as the hardened males hit the floor and began clawing at scratching at one another for dear life. One for the chance to be with the one he loved, and the other for revenge on the thing he loved.

"You made a grave mistake." Val grumbled as he continued to rumble and tumble with Vaatia on the ground.

"Oh shi-" Vaatia was suddenly caught off as Val rammed right into him, knocking him to the ground. The two of them rolled around and sounded like alley cats, hissing and scratching and roaring out. It was a true battle now, and wasn't quite the one that Vaatia had anticipated. He knew that cutting some of the male's mane was going to be a deal, but not THIS big of a deal. "It will grow back! It's just hair!" Vaatia's point wasn't unreasonable, at all. It WAS just hair! Sure, it could take some time, but it would come back eventually! All hair did! The white and black male grumbled and swiped at Val, slightly annoyed that he was taking this in such the direction that he had.

Through the rumbling and tumbling, Vaatia managed to roll around to where he had the kicking power advantage on his back, kicking up and into Val's soft stomach area with all the might his mighty haunches could muster. This fight needed to end, or else the captain's rage over his precious hair could get out of hand. Vaatia had been lucky so far as to not be maimed... Yet.

"Its not just hair! ITS NOT JUST HAIR!" The male roared in anger just before he was kicked away as hard as he could be. He had the wind knocked out of him and felt a little woozy now. But he wouldn't be admitting that to those around him. Of course he didn't expect this lion to know why it wasn't just hair, Vaatia knew nothing of his past, of his Father, or what his mane symbolized. It was a complicated situation in which he wanted to blame him, COULD blame him. But shouldn't blame him, he grit he teeth in both anger and wooziness as he tried to stand after that intense belly kick. The wooziness was making it a little difficult to see straight and one could tell something was a little off by his not so straight steps.

But he finally managed to make his way over to Vaatia, albeit a little longer than he intended. "Congratulations Vaatia, you win. As is his own custom, the male lowered himself t his knees in a bow of respect and stayed there for a moment. "As is now your right, you may claim your passage into the pride and enjoy whatever we have to offer." Standing once more, he tried to force a smile. "Now if you'll excuse me, I could use some liquid encouragement right about now, and I know just the lion to see." That brought a smile to his face and he whistled a small tune as he limped sideways away from the clearing.
