[Duel] On Wings of Chaos (Ikhtiyari x Jahim)

Jahim eyed up the challenger as he stepped forward, ready to begin the duel. She had to admit he looked the part as far as color and size went, but did he have the battle skills? He certainly wasn't able to go through training with the cubs and adolescents so he'd have to be good enough to fit in and learn on his own.

As the male lowered his head and charged, Jahim held her ground, paws digging into the sand. Her one advantage was that she had been raised on the sands and knew how they shifted and moved and reacted to battles, and even though this was just a spar and a test of his strength, she didn't want to go easy on him.

She shifted a bit to trade blows with him, their paws hitting each other but without any real force. He was quick for his size, which was good, but speed wasn't everything.

Jahim saw the male falter a bit, misjudging how the sand would react to his weight pushing through it. There were times when the sand wasn't very deep and the solid ground under it would provide decent support, but that was normally only around oasis' and where the sands ended and the savanna began. Here, on the border but certainly well into the desert, the sands shifted and drifted and piled up deceptively.

He was quick to retreat, but the female followed quickly, reaching out for another strike. It landed again but it wasn't a satisfying hit, even if she did make fair contact. She could tell he was irritated and while that was a prominent trait among many Firekin, it was important not to let it be the center of a battle. She'd watch to make sure he kept his cool from here on out.

The lioness kept her head down and feet spread, ready to move if need be. She had battled all types of Firekim but this was her first joining duel and she was curious despite herself. It was interesting to see how rogues battled. The brief pause caused a small lull in the spar, but the male farted in quickly in a show of power and landed a good hit on her shoulder. Jahim took the blow in stride, holding her ground so she could return the favor and punish him for getting so close. Her own large paw connected with the rogue, letting him know without words that Firekin fighters didn’t flinch in a tough fight. He was doing well despite his initial miss, though, and she was pleased to see him rebound from it so well.

There was determination in him, Jahim would give him that. He wasn't letting the sand get to him, nor was he backing away when she showed her own strength. He was thinking outside the box, too, and as he threw his weight into her she had to brace herself so he wouldn't send her flying. He was strong and that was a massive bonus point in his favor. He really would fit right in...so long as he completed the spar to her liking.

She didn't give him the upper hand long as her hind paws dug into the sand. She shoved right back, a little snarl leaving her as the spar got her heart and blood pumping with excitement. Her power matched his and she leaned into him hard, giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Jahim felt her heart beat a bit faster as the male growled back in return. She was enjoying this and hoped he was too, even if their positions were quite different. This was an important battle for him as he clearly wished to join, and Jahim was already securely within the pride. Still, it was her first spar of this nature and she didn't want to lose to a rogue, even if he was pretty good!

It turned out the last blow was his undoing. Jahim was knocked away from their stalemate just enough to swipe out her own paw, catching his and sending it out from under him. She dodged his imbalance and turned in time to see him fall forward into the sands now that she wasn't there to push back against him. An amused look crossed her features, her tail flicking back and forth, clearly pleased with herself.

"Not a bad try," she said, not wanting to discourage him. "You have a lot of the right things you need to succeed here. Perhaps if we were fighting on solid ground you'd have bested me, but here, you have to get used to the sands." She left it at that, leaving the male to try again another day.
