It was a peculiar thing to trespass apurpose and even more to know that his reasons why lay in sweat and blood. Jarujan was by no means a small lion - his mother, so his father had always said, was a goddess whose whims were unfathomable. Having met her once or twice he was certain of his parentage and even more of his father's judgement of her soul. She had always known him, she'd said, but did not always remember.
Peculiar begot peculiar, he supposed.
His paws beat a path through the sand as his mind wandered but his eyes remained locked on the horizon as he drove closer and closer to what he knew was the border of these lands. The scent markers were strong and the prey beasts few. Food did not like to live near its predators, after all.
He paused and turned his head slowly, tracing his gaze along the horizon ahead of him for any sign of another soul that might be willing to judge his worth.
"Hello? Is there anyone out there that fancies a duel?"
His words died flat on the hot air of the desert and he felt, not for the first time, quite the fool.
