For once Golka had taken time to rest within the red stone of the canyon that made up their home, overlooking the pridal caverns from her own as she pondered silently to herself. What she pondered most of the time was the whereabouts of her older brother, he was taking too long for her liking on this little 'venture' of his and it grated on her more than a little.
Yes she understood the good in it, yes she understood alliances were important, that it brought in new blood, new trade, new ideas and all that...but he had important duties here. He was Warchief. He had a mate.

Ancestors, poor Ro'kuna. Golka had considered the Farseer her friend, even if they both worked at opposite ends of the spectrum for the pride - she the more spiritual and herself the more physical - but she had no idea how Garok's absence was affecting the lioness. Maybe she should've inquired...?

After a brief tussle with her own emotions, the earthy lioness pushed herself to her paws and sought out the other...it would've probably been best to catch up anyway. See how things were going on her end, how the spirits were doing or such. That stuff always went over her head, probably why she preferred using her claws and fangs at the end of the day, wouldn't be High Warlord by looking into pools and grinding herbs and such.

"Bonemaul? Are you around?"

A weaker lioness might have broken by this point, Ro'kuna was sure of it. Stress, loneliness, and at times even uncertainty weighed heavily on her shoulders, and although she had several members of the pride approach her to be her shoulder to lean, on, she had been more and more viciously rebuking them. The latest victim had been turned away with a snap of the jaws and a vicious snarl.

With the day starting as any other, retreating into the Valley of Spirits to speak with the elements. These times were the best times of her days anymore, and once she got what she needed, she headed right back out to do her duties; Offer her wisdom, calm fears, and give blessings to outgoing hunting parties. Exhausting as it was, day after day she did this, and it was when she was at her best.

It was when the day was over that she was plagued by those nasty things called feelings. Garok had been gone for so long that she feared him returning not the same lion. Fears and doubts led to sleepless nights that she eventually had to conquer with an herb mixture in order to function the next day. Still, despite this, she kept going, putting on a face and being the strength and spirit of the pride that was sorely needed during the Warchief's absence.

Fur bristling as her name was called near the end of the day, Ro'kuna was prepared to rebuke yet another worried warrior, and turned ready to snarl and snap. Instead, her ears perked and her heart warmed. Though it may not be Garok, Golka was a welcome sight. The strength where she couldn't be, and the one she was sure had been taking up the slack where she couldn't.

"Bloodtusk..." Her voice was weary. The day had been long and the night before far too short. "Golka. Yes, just dismissed the peon complaining of an injured paw." she chuckled softly.

"He got a rock stuck between the toes."

The sight of the lioness provoked a sensation of empathy that rippled from her nose to her toes and the fleeting thought that she would throttle her elder sibling as soon as she saw him for leaving the pair of them like this, but Ro'kuna was a relief to see and it brought a smile to her face as she approached. She admired Bonemaul, she could definitely see why Garok had gone for her and could've thought of no other better to help shoulder the burden of the pride in the lieu of their absent idiot- uh, Warchief.

"You look like you were tackled by the rhino, Ro'kuna." She commented in a light hearted and friendly manner, moving to the Farseer's side as she listened to the tired responses to which Golka gave an incredulous look. "A rock? Really? Ugh these peons get softer every month...then again I had to stop another scuffle between some Grunts today, over meat of all things."

There was a lengthy sigh. "I hope Garok is having as much 'fun' as we are, better come back with some decent scars on him after all this time too."
Another pause and a beat of silence before the earthy toned female remembered who she was laying next to and sighed in frustration at her own callousness. "Sorry, I can only imagine your irritation at this, the inquiries into 'what the spirits are seeing' must be ludicrous at this point...meanwhile I've got a gaggle of meathead's eager to fight and no enemies." She settled her golden eyes on the other curiously.

"We're not wanting for food...what, did one piece have more fat on it than the other?" Rolling her eyes, Ro'kuna chuckled as she turned back to quickly finish sorting some sickly-green-looking herbs away from some blood red ones. The bits and pieces were gently pawed into their proper place inside a small dug-out and well-worn cup-like hole in the ground. "They had better thank the ancestors that I wasn't around for that."

A sigh later and she settled down next to Golka, finally enjoying some peace. While time alone was perfect and grand, there was just something about being around someone that warmed your heart. While it wasn't her mate, it was still comforting. The other lioness' words did cause a slight twitch of an ear, but instead of feeling anything really negative, she simply chuckled, amused.

"I'll be sure to give him one or two if he doesn't have something to show for it." Boy, she was sighing a lot today. "It's irritating, yes, but..." Closing her eyes, she allowed herself a smile. "Speaking to the spirits is calming, at least.
And something to keep my mind off of the obvious."

"And you?" she asked, eyes opening again to look at her guest- her sister.
"Are you holding up alright? You know, despite the meatheads we have to babysit." Another laugh. Ancestors, it felt good to laugh.

Watching the other with a small smile on her muzzle as the female went about her business with herbs, Golka's ears swiveled forward in mild curiosity at her workings. All the herbs and the medicines, the sharp smells that reminded her of coming home after a fight and having to get her wounds pasted, it made her both nostalgic and just a tiny bit wary. She liked getting scars and yet being healed always somehow hurt worse than receiving any wound from any enemy.

When Ro'kuna spoke of her brother she smiled lopsidedly, glad to see her being at ease at least. "I'll be sure to hold him so you can if he doesn't have the spine to take a lashing from his mate after leaving her alone so long." She chuckled, but it was bitter, she missed her brother and the balance he gave. "It's good that the spirits soothe you...it must be a good sign."

At the question her ears swiveled again and she rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "Other than the odd visitor by the border nothing much, the Grunts are growing strong and rogue's will now and then pick on the herds...but they're dealt with easily." She snorted. "Found a rogue carting around his whelps earlier, looked like they should've barely been out the den and he was parading them in stranger lands...might as well have painted a big bullseye on himself if I hadn't found him and his little creche first."

Preferring not to think too much on her missing-in-action mate, Ro'kuna instead focused on the news of the rogue with cubs. If she had ever found out that any of theirs- grunt, warrior, whoever- would dare take such young ones close to an unknown's pride...Well, there simply wouldn't be much talk. Only the soundest beating the Farseer could hand out short of life-threatening. She could only hope they knew better in the end.

"Tch..." She heaved a sigh, lip slightly twitching and threatening to form a snarl, "It's a wonder the whelps weren't dead by the time you found them. Either he knows just enough to not get them killed, or he's stupidly lucky." nose wrinkling, she chuffed out another sort-of laugh. "I'll lean more on the 'stupid' side, though."

"I assume he's gone, then?"

Watching Ro'kuna as she responded to her talk Golka just smiled lopsidedly in amusement, no wonder Garok had fallen for her - Ro was a fierce female that took no nonsense and bore the weight of so much on her shoulders with a sense of pride and honor. She could realistically understand the affection her idiot older brother had for her.

"Pfft, gone and thankfully with the little ones in one piece, I couldn't let them suffer for their idiotic father...took them all to the river for a drink before escorting them back to the border where they'd come from." A snort huffed out of her as she held her head a little high. "I definitely hope that idiot remembers me and the looks I gave him when he tried to explain himself."

She then gave a slight roll of her eyes. "Now if only if my meatheads behaved as easily...how're the young shamans?"

"Assuming his head is on straight enough to remember anything." Ro'kuna scoffed. It was laughable, but the event had come and gone. There was nothing she, nor Garok could do about it. Golka had taken care of things just fine, and there was no need to worry if it happened again.

With the conversation turning towards the pride itself, she couldn't help but puff her chest out in a bit of pride. Her wards were coming along nicely, and she even hoped to advance some of the older shaman youth soon. It had been fairly difficult, juggling taking care of not only them, but the entirety of the pride, though she had, so far, managed.

"They're wonderful." she all but purred, "They've been making me proud. A few are...headstrong..." chuckling a bit, her gaze slid to the entrance of her cavern. "But it's good, really. We should be proud of our grunts and peons, as well. they've not caused...much trouble."

"Ancestors help them if they do decide to shirk their duties, though."

"Headstrong shaman? Reminds me a certain lioness when we were barely out of our whelp furs and my rock headed brother was making goo-goo eyes at her." She aimed a knowing smirk her friend's way as she gave her limbs a stretch and listened to Ro'kuna's words diligently, ears swiveled upon her head towards the lioness as she sat herself up. A small smile barely creeping up on her face at the mention of the grunts and the peons.

A soft scoff escaped her. "The peons shirk? The most they do is fall asleep if the grunts aren't watching and even then that just needs a good slap and the grunts know to behave, otherwise the generals will be all over their hides....honestly for some of them being whelpless you'd think they were their parents." She then grumbled slightly. "And it'll be the season soon, lots of meat and many courting hunts to be sure...more things we'll have to officiate over."

She gave the lioness a brief nudge in the shoulder in a friendly manner. "More little anklebiters to train in the future."

A smile played on her maw again, and she couldn't help a soft giggle. Those were the days, back when Garok thought he needed to go above and beyond to impress her in any way. Back when she butted heads with the old farseer, may his spirit be at peace, and had almost turned to being a warrior instead. Those days had shaped them all into what they were now.

At the mention of the upcoming season, the mention of anklebiters- of incoming whelps, she couldn't help but frown once more. If the Warchief remained away during that time when it was of utmost importance that the pride be as one? To make up for those away on their Hunts together...

"I look forward to it, really." Ro'kuna sounded almost wistful, "A nice distraction, at least."

Smiling at her sister, she nudged her back playfully before looking back at the herbs and poultices she had been working on. "We'll endure, no matter what."

The giggle was a good sign, she would make sure that Ro'kuna kept that smile and giggle for as long as she lived, her brother would've done the same if he was here...but he wasn't. So she would take the mantle of making sure that his mate remained happy till his eventual return.

At her wistful mention of looking forward to the future whelps, Golka playfully rolled her eyes and snickered at the nudging. "We always do endure, it's the Vita way."

A noise outside caused her ear to swivel, the sound of grunting and bragging and tussling. Oh good, the grunts were acting up. Grumbling to herself the warlord pushed herself to her paws and smiled tiredly to her sister-in-law as she dragged herself to the mouth of the Farseer's den.

"And the Vita way will continue even if I grow as long as the tooth as some, I'll bring you some meat if those meatheads haven't crunched it all up."
