Votzhem nodded at the Shifter Sorcerer. "Thank you for agreeing to this." he said, "I wasn't sure if you would, in light of... recent events."

They stood in a clearing, scarred by spell and flame - he, his Sister, and the Shifter named Biroki. He'd met Biroki by chance while taking a walk, and upon talking he had realized that the Sorcerer would be a perfect teacher for him, magic-wise.

Still, with the tensions between Alkidike and Shifter higher than usual, and with the fact that Votzhem was very much not the man's kin, he hadn't been sure if the man would help him learn magic. But here he was, ready to spar and see where it took him.

Kaalnia was glad that she'd come with her Brother to his training session. Initially, it had just been out of curiousity and in the interest of fun, but after seeing the shifter involved... Well, Kaalnia knew this one and knew to be very wary.

"Hey." she said, unusually subduedly. Her antennae told her that there was another person nearby, but it was the sorcerer she needed to worry about. He was scary powerful. On checking, she saw that it was a woman and she gave her a wink.

Well, at least there was a witness, and at least it was a nice looking lady Shifter. She turned back to Biroki. "So. How's this going to go?"

"You live here, after all. If something were to happen, I hope that I can count on your support." Biroki said, smiling. It was true, the hybrid and his predominantly leaf family did live in Ast. They were not his Tribe, but they could protect his people if he needed them to. Which meant that, for such an esteemed favor, he had to trade this favor in turn.

Plus he liked teaching, and it would be interesting to teach a grown man for once. And his son? He thought that Votzhem might have mentioned a child with a magic affinity. Biroki decided he would ask after the battle.

He gave the other Alkidike woman a nod in greeting. "I hope that we can spar first, so I can see how you fight." He hadn't been intending for them to have a third, but so be it - it would help prevent Votzhem from being overwhelmed. "I'd like to see any spellcraft that you might have, Votzhem. I want to know where to start." He noticed her look to the side, and he saw a Shifter watching them. He smiled.

"We are about to spar - would you care to train with us?" Two on two was more fair than one on two, after all, and she looked anxious. And strong. "They are fighting together, so if you would like, you could help me."

He didn't recognize her, and why would he? He hadn't seen Hijil in years...

He wanted to make a good impression, here, after all...

"Wow, Vosh, really?" she had to laugh at his magic. Magic, it seemed to her, was awfully fiddly. It had its uses (starting a fire in a rainstorm, anyone?) and it was powerful but... well... "Your aim is sooooo off!"

Ah, right, to business. "Sure, you're testing him..." she said, taking a stance. "But don't forget about me!"

And with that she charged at him with the spear. Biroki was the real threat here - she wanted to at least soften him up a little bit for her brother.

... Well, they had seen her, so she supposed... she guessed...

"... all right." she said, giving the alkidikes a nervous glance and the shifter - her own kind, as it were - a slightly more nervous glance. She adjusted her gauntlets, standing out of the way as the ice-hybrid cast his spell.

When the alkidike came in to strike, however, Hijil decided that it was time, now, to interfere. She pushed the spear aside, causing it to miss its mark. She moved to stand in front of Biroki, taking up her familiar stance as a wall.

"Not bad." Biroki said encouragingly. Actually, it wasn't good, but the point was to learn, right? And at least he could control it and hadn't hurt himself with a cyclone! After his own experiences and that of his students, Biroki's standards were fairly low.

"Now try again... ah!" He moved away from Kaalnia's spear, giving her an odd look. She really should let her brother try a little more before going in for the kill like that. Did she have something against him?

Fortunately - and he was glad he'd invited her to join them - the other shifter stepped in front of him and began blocking. A guard, then. Or a Massif?

"Thank you." he said to her, calling energy to the leylines around Votzhem.

"Here - try sensing that." he said, "It will help you become more in tune with your magic... He shot another glance at Kaalnia. As long as this is still a training excercise...

There were two Alkidikes attacking her now - both intended to go past her, but she would not let them. It was too easy to take their hits - she had learned that she was very tough, too tough for most people. She was agile enough in the trees, but here on the ground, blocking people defensively served her well.

She shook her head, sized up the full blooded alkidike, tensed the muscles in her arm, and punched. Hard. Except, where she connected, she felt the gauntlets she had made crack, stabbing into her fists suddenly. She returned to a defensive stance, gritting her teeth in pain.

Well, the other shifter seemed to be dealing with the damage well. Biroki infused the leylines around Kaalnia (she was a problem, actually, he'd been hoping to just have Votzhem to spar with) with lightning and moved back further. He was out of range now, they would have to actually try to get him.

Strategy - he was using it.

Votzhem conjured up some wind and sent a miniature cyclone hurtling through the softly glowing pollen puffs of Jauhar, right at the shifter sorcerer and right over the shoulder of the massif.

She might be a wall of a woman, but air could get through walls... right? Plus, he was here to practice his magic, after all.
