Ko is a smol little bean of positive energy, all wrapped up in a mocha package. He’s a spritely little thing with very little vertical height to his name, the runt of the litter since he was born. Getting the last scraps at every meal hasn’t done him any favors in the growth department either, leaving him rather skinny and slight. But that won’t slow him down, taking every new adventure in stride and trying his hardest with the rest of them. His face is covered with a healthy smattering of freckles that extend down onto his shoulders and appear on the rest of his body, little dark spots on his medium-range skin-tone. Atop his head is a thick mass of fluffy purple hair, a wild puff of curls that would surely be unmanageable if he didn’t keep it short. His wide smile comes with an endearing gap-toothed grin, topped off by his small button nose and eyes wide with wonder and sparkling energy. His black crystals grow on his shoulders and hips, which he has the odd habit of tapping with sticks and spoons to make little tunes on when he is bored.
●❤● Clothing ●❤●
If you asked him to, Ko could probably count on one hand the number of new clothes he’s owned in his life. His meager closet is comprised of mainly hand-me-downs (which might be for the best in all honesty; he’d probably ruin something new with how accident prone he is). Almost every shirt he owns practically slides off, being one too many sizes too large for him. Fasteners and scarf ties usually do the trick of keeping his clothes on him, and not a single pair of pants hasn’t been hemmed into oblivion by now. After being washed on 12 other bodies, none of his clothes are vibrant at all, being drab, watered-down hues of their former glory.
●❤● Accesories ●❤●
The one piece of clothing that Ko owns with more than its fair share of color is a scarf he made for himself out of one of his sister’s old dresses. He got his hands on some dyes and brushes, going to town on the piece of fabric until it has been completely covered in abstract patterns and designs. In many ways he treats the rest of his clothes like this when he can as well, adding some energy to the garments that are at the end of their life-cycle. He has a few mismatched beaded bracelets, anklets, and necklaces, made of whatever he can stick a needle and thread through. He never leaves the house without a bag over his shoulder so he can pick up any interesting things he finds, write down ideas in his sketchbook, whip out one of his many handmade instruments, or fix any mishaps with spare gauze and bandages.

It’s been said that Ko is a young boy with too many big ideas to contain in his small body. Which is about as accurate as you can get for little Ko. The youngest of 12 siblings, it’s easy for him to get overlooked or lost underfoot in a household full of so many voices already. As a result, his family often doesn’t have the time or patience to give him all of the attention he would like or need. Ko’s grown used to this by now, and as an unfortunate consequence, has developed the mentality that he was just an afterthought or a mistake. So he often keeps to himself, daydreaming and playing-pretend that everything is far more marvelous than reality has proven to be. This spacey attitude leaves him accident prone and forgetful; at any given time, you’ll likely see Ko sporting more than one bandage as a indicator of his most recent clumsy mishap.
He has a wild and sparkling imagination, inventing stories and songs to entertain himself or anyone who will listen. Finding creative outlets for someone of little means has proven to be a challenge. But Ko doesn't let that stop him, jotting down his ideas onto whatever flat surface he can get his hands on. And if that means accidentally defacing private property with a colorful rendition of a fantastical scene, than whoopsy-daisy, looks like he'll have some cleaning up to do!
So few people show interest in what he’s thinking about, that whenever someone actually does offer a glimmer of genuine curiosity, he latches onto that and goes full bore. This unbridled energy can be overwhelming, often seen as annoying. He’s not trying to be bothersome; it’s just that he has so many ideas and thoughts that he feels like he has to get them all out into the open as quickly as he can, before he’s shut down again. Ko really does make an effort at keeping himself in check though, offering apologies readily and wholeheartedly whenever he feels like he is in the wrong.
He’s gotten so used to the idea that no one is interested in him, that he just ASSUMES that no one is. Even if they might be. Even if his elder siblings would LIKE to help him out with his problems, they can’t, because he doesn’t tell them there is a problem in the first place. He does not want to be a burden or hindrance to his family, so he’s taken to figuring out solutions on his own for his problems, or asking for help only when he really needs it. These feelings are residual from when he was younger, when he was much more needy and high maintenance.
Now that he’s a preteen, he’s found ways of channeling that energy and tapered it off, because he looks back and sees that damn, he probably made people resent him for being such a nuisance. When he was younger, he tried to actively seek attention in a more head-on way, by attempting to be the flashiest, or loudest, or creating little problems that his elder siblings and parents were forced to fix, just so that they’d give him more of their time. But as he got older, he realized that he was just being annoying, or a nuisance to people if he tried too aggressively to make himself stand out. And he doesn’t want to be seen as a burden by anyone, so he’s grown out of his “rebellious stage”―if it can even be called that―and prefers now to use much more passive means to getting the interactions he wants.
He really just wants people to like him and to be happy. So he’s trying his best to work on the flaws he sees in himself. Even if that does put some walls up where they really do not need to exist.
Being the youngest and smallest child in a family has had its ups and downs, leaving him a gullible, naïve push-over. He’s found it easier to avoid confrontation than cause a scene, preferring to take the blame in situations, even if it’s not his fault, to end the conflict as quickly as possible. He’s quick to believe people, or give them the benefit of the doubt. Particularly in the sense that he holds what people tell him to be true unless they are proven wrong by himself or someone else. This is most prevalent in the “younger sibling dynamic”. (ie. If one of his brothers told him that eating twenty fish in a row would make him grow gills, he’d probably believe them and get a stomach ache eating too many fish. Or some other nonsense like that.)
Ko isn’t exactly the brightest bulb in the bunch. His broad imagination can see the possibility of any ridiculous scenario SOMEHOW being true. Magic exists after all, so who’s he to question how strange something may be? He’s quick to trust people due to his desire to make friends, which has backfired on more than one occasion when his naivety has been taken advantage of. It’s very easy to prank or trick him.
And sometimes, his lies are unintentional. If he’s told by his parents or elder siblings NOT to do something, because it might lead to him getting in trouble or getting hurt, he’ll promise not to do it. But his curiosity and impulsiveness are a very strong factor in his life, so more often than not, he’ll break that promise because he JUST HAS TO try that thing he was told not to do, or research that topic they told him to avoid. He’s not trying to be a problem child, it’s just the way he is.
Generally, he tends to follow the rules, and prefers honesty over trickery. But sometimes, the truth isn't always the best answer to a question. Ko does not have a problem with lying if they are just small ones, or told to make someone feel good, or used to protect someone else. The gods are very busy people after all and SURELY do not have time in their very important days to be worrying about keeping track of every lie that a small, silly boy like him would be saying, after all. But if he gets into DEEP TROUBLE for lying, or he offends someone, or something bad happens because of him, he’d take that as a very severe warning that the gods were listening this time and were VERY DISPLEASED with him and his stupidity, and he deserves whatever punishment the universe sees fit to bestow upon him.
Despite it all though, Ko has the mentality that it doesn’t do anyone any good to linger on the negatives for too long. He has a very positive, go-getter attitude, readily offering a helping hand to whoever will take it. His earnest and sincere nature may feel like a maelstrom of ecstatic energy to some, but if you can handle Ko, he’ll be a loyal friend till the end.

A deep love for each other, the need for a free reliable workforce, and a healthy sex-drive were all factors that led to Ko’s mother and father siring a bustling household full of thirteen children. By the time he was born, their enthusiasm and imaginative spark had been all but extinguished, leaving their last son with the ever-so-inspired name of “Ko”. All the children were put to work helping grow their parent’s carpentry business, and though there were many mouths to feed and bodies to clothe, they have made due as best they can. It is not a wealthy household, but it is full of love, and that’s more than many can dare to hope for.
Ko does the best he can to contribute to the family as well, but his clumsy nature and inattentive, wandering mind have the tendency to make him a liability more often than not in a workshop devoted to using lathes, drills, axes, and knives. And with plenty of other hands to help with the more menial tasks, he’s often left with nothing to do. Though it breaks their hearts to have to admit it, his parents have found it easier and less costly to keep their focus off their youngest and just leave him to his own devices. If Ko had any drop of mischief or malcontent in his little heart, there’s no way this system could work out. But as luck would have it, he turned out to be a good-natured boy, stepping back when asked to and keeping himself occupied. This led to much time spent alone in his own company, finding whatever creative outlets for his energy he could and exploiting them.
In recent years, this has led him to spending much time at the local orphanage, where his enthusiasm and positivity is appreciated when he keeps the children entertained. He’s become something of a famous scribe in their ranks, spinning wild stories that he recites for them, often with the accompaniment of one of his many musical instruments. Daring adventurers who go on epic quests to fight horrible monsters, pious craftsmen who feel the blessings of the gods to create marvelous mystical items, and many other equally fantastic tales clutter Ko’s little brain, just waiting to be poured out. And while in the service of the orphanage, he’s been blessed with meeting the holy Zekiel, whose information of the Mainlanders and openness for discussion has only fueled the burning furnaces of his fiery imagination. He’s been told all his life that they are unholy, untrustworthy creatures, but with every new bit of information he learns, his curiosity only grows stronger: could they really be as bad after all? Perhaps someone should keep a closer eye on this spontaneous young boy…

●❤● The Deokka Clan, by order of age ●❤●
1 ) Lurinellio
His parents wished to show thanks to their gods for the blessing of their first born child, giving him a name to honor the male deity Lurin. He feels the most responsibility as the child slated to inherit the business his parents crafted, working hard since he was young to help manage the household and the workshop. He is his father’s right hand man and has been made an official partner, living nearby with his own young family. His even temperament and cool head make him a great asset for the business. 2 ) Kazmious
The second eldest son, he and Lurinelle have been close since they were children. He holds no resentment towards his elder brother, knowing that when their parents eventually pass away or retire, they have promised to share the management of the workshop. Kaz is satisfied to let others have the spotlight; he’d rather work behind the scenes to ensure everything falls perfectly into place. He has a good head for numbers and figures, handling the books and ledgers for the business. He recently married, moving out of the house to create a home for himself. 3 ) Dafielikha
She is the first daughter of the family, and as such was blessed with a name derivative of the goddess Dafiel. Being the eldest daughter inevitably led to her serving as a second mother for many of the younger children, helping keep the household in line and productive. She will use a firm hand and voice when it is necessary to restore order or dispense discipline, but her love for her family is indisputable. She’d take a knife to the gut for any of them. 4 ) Friedrikko
Of all the children, this is the one you would not want to get into a fight with. Fried is built like a bull, strong with piercing eyes. But that’s really all for show, as he’s an easygoing young man with a good heart. He loves children and playing games, whether they be whimsical or for high stakes. With a penchant for gambling, he’s lucky to have level headed elder siblings looking out for the family funds. Despite his loud bravado, he has great skill with the tools of his trade, his strength and patience coming in handy with all manner of woodworking. 5 ) Graigorii
With four strong siblings ahead of him, Graig has felt the burden of living up to high expectations ever since he was young. This has lead to some resentment, as he feels he is stuck in a weird position as being one of the eldest, but not THE eldest. He tries to assist in the finer workings of the business as much as he can, but often feels inadequate when compared to his siblings and parents. He often talks of leaving home and striking it rich on his own, but has yet to make good on his claims. [Short and slim, thin lips, dexterous fingers]
6 ) Embryelle
For reasons that no one is quite sure of, the second daughter of the family took an immediate liking to her elder brother Kaz, and has kept that adoration ever since. Perhaps it is that they share similar temperaments, or he had the tendency to dote on his new baby sister. No matter how it started, she has always been like a shadow to him, quietly observing and soaking in the “wisdom” he shares with her. She helps him with the books and running numbers, becoming quite the shrewd businesswoman herself. Needless to say, she has a number of mixed feelings about Kaz leaving home with his new wife. 7 ) Trystaan
If things are found in pieces on the floor, or fire “suddenly” flares up in the courtyard, you can assume he’s to blame. Trys has always had an inquisitive mind and an interest in how things tick, tinkering in the workshop even when all work is done for the day. He has the tendency to jump to action before thinking, enlisting his younger siblings in all manner of wild experiments. He enjoys attending the Craftsmen’s Guild meetings with his father to learn about all the new advances his peers have been making. There’s talks of him heading into the capital to work for one of the larger carpentry businesses that belongs to their father’s friend. [Cropped hair cut, big glasses, skinny, freckles]
8 ) Adellia
If you asked anyone who the prettiest Deokka girl was, you’d be hard pressed to hear anything but the answer “Adellia”. Beautiful in body and in spirit, she’s the whole package. She rarely praises herself, crediting her luck as blessings from the Gods. Soft spoken and religiously studious, she often joins Ko when he visits the orphanage in order to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. If it weren’t for her 5 elder brothers scrutinizing every boy who came a calling, there’s no way she wouldn’t be married by now. 9 ) Viika
In contrast to her soft spoken elder sister, Vii isn’t one to be content studying religious texts between cooking each meal for the Deokka herd. Any attempt to ween the tomboyish nature out of this girl was a complete failure, so rather than fight it, her parents just accepted that staying in the house wasn’t for her. She’s a girl as tough as the nails she slams into planks all day who’s not afraid to speak her mind. And Gods help any boy who tries to stop her. [Tall, well muscled, freckled, short hair]
10 ) Ulana
The youngest daughter of the family, it’s clear that in a few more years she’ll be a beautiful young woman. But Ula is ready for that to happen NOW. She’s tired of being treated like a child, when in her eyes she’s already QUITE grown up. Which leads her into trouble more often than not, putting herself into situations she is not prepared to handle. With so many sisters ahead of her, she feels the need to overcompensate with her looks, putting valuable time and money into her beauty routines. [Short, mildly curvy, large eyes, glasses she refuses to wear in public]
11 ) Ezu
One of a pair of twins, any and all peace in the Deokka household was shattered when they came into the world. Ezu is the more energetic of the two, likely to get himself into trouble if someone does not rein him in. He’s very easily distracted and flighty, requiring reminders to stay on task. This leads to him getting bored easily, and with that comes mischief that he drags his brother into. He tends to be a bit flaky and dismissive, except when it comes to his twin. There’s no one else in the world that matters more to him than Uzi. [Lean and muscled, scar on his eyebrow, charming smile]
12 ) Uzi
The second twin to come into the world, his birth was unexpected. As a result of something happening while he was in the womb, Uzi was born blind and smaller than his brother. Left with an early disadvantage in life, his parents made damn sure the rest of the family would all help take care of and protect their baby brother. Ezu more than anyone else stepped into this role. Part of this might be out of guilt that he received more than his fare share before they were born. Either way, the two are inseparable. Uzi hasn’t let his disability get in the way of helping the family, assisting in the workshop whenever he can and keeping his unruly brother focused on his work. 13 ) Ko
After the complications of Uzi’s birth, his parents decided to have no more children, for fear that something might go wrong with their next baby. But accidents happen, and Ko was conceived. But being a religious couple, the pair agreed to keep the child and see what happened. However he came into the world, it was the Gods’ will. And as fate would have it, Ko was born healthy and happy, if on the smaller side. His parents saw him as their beautiful little second-chance, a sign that their faith and trust in the heavenly Father and Mother was rewarded. And though they have loved him dearly all these years, the fact remains that he was not planned for. And with two brothers that were already a handful, one with special needs, it has been a struggle to give their high-energy youngest son all the attention someone with his kind of imagination needs.

1.) Lurinellio is his big BIG brother, and he’s super cool and mature, even if he can be kinda grumpy sometimes. A lot of the time.
2.) Kazmious doesn’t really enjoy Ko very much, he says his ideas are ridiculous and his energy is wasted on frivolous creative nonsense.
3.) Dafielikha gives the best hugs. She can be really strict, and loud, and scarry…but she’s a really nice woman. She helps mom out a lot, which is good. Mom doesn’t need too much stress, it’s not good for her.
4.) Friedrikko is pretty great! When he has the time to hang out with Ko, they always have a good time. He’s a really hard worker, even if Kaz says he can be a “good-for-nothing”. He was always nice to him when they were little, gave him lots of shoulder rides so Ko could see all the tall things!
5.) Graigorii is always kinda…moody. Ko doesn’t see why he gets into arguments with everyone so much, he should just smile a bit more! He doesn’t like to hang out with Ko, he says his talking is irritating…but that’s okay! If Ko being quite around him will make Graig happier, then he’ll keep his lips zipped extra tight!
6.) Embryelle doesn’t really enjoy talking to Ko either. He suspects that it’s because she’s ACTUALLY Kaz’s super secret twin. It’s the only explanation for why they are so similar.
7.) Trystaan is always thinking up really cool things to make! He’s probably the smartest person in the whole house! Sometimes he lets Ko help him out with his stuff, if there’s nothing breakable. Or flammable. And he’s got a special contract with Ko! Whenever he goes out and brings things home, Trys always sits down with him and looks through the haul, and he gets to have first pick of anything useful for one of his inventions! Ko really enjoys that time they get to spend together…
8.) Adellia is about the nicest person ever! She's very patient, and kind, and rarely ever gets very mad. They like to discuss religious passages together, and what they might mean. She thinks his imagination and creativity is beautiful, she just worries that his curiosity and eagerness to trust might get him hurt someday.
9.) Viika is so cool! She’s gotta be the toughest person he’s ever me; she can lift Ko straight over her head! She takes carpentry really seriously, so dad’s proud of her. He’d also like her to maybe go out on some dates with the boys she hangs out with, but she told Ko one time “she’s not into boys”. Obviously that means she’s only into MEN!
10.) Ulana used to play with Ko and the twins all the time, but it seems like lately she doesn’t really feel like it anymore. Ko suspects it has something to do with the breasts she started growing. She kinda became a jerk after that.
11.) Ezu is actually pretty scrappy, he gets into quite a few fights. Mum says he is the fire and Uzi is the ice: they balance each other out really well. He's about the most mischievous one in the family...it's about a 50/50 chance he might be lying to you at this very moment! Even though they get along all right, Ko can tell that Ezu doesn't like it when Ko is the third wheel around the two twins. He knows that Ezu can be pretty fickle about sharing his brother.
12.) Even though Uzi can't see, he's really smart and way more mature than you might think for his age. It probably comes from having to deal with Ezu's mood swings all the time...something about 'going through puberty'? He and Ko like to hang out together: he appreciates what a wild imagination Ko has, and enjoys how illustrative he can be with his words. Ko just kinda... 'gets' how to describe things to Uzi, more so than anyone else in the house. He paints pictures with his words.
