Part One: Fallen Ill

Dov Strunmah Meta Plot

Start Date: March 11, 2017 // End Date: April 11, 2017 (Approx.)

Open to all member(s) and rogue(s).
(Includes preybeasts and non-lined creatures.)

Dov Strunmah are new to dealing with the outside world, previously inhabiting the mountain and finding everything they needed within never drove them to seek out the outside. Since Alduin has come to rule some change have followed, including the move - a move which landed the Dov pride members on he outside of their beloved walls.

Rahisi, the mate of Zaan`Vahzah Throek `irid, has fallen ill after the consumption of plants residing along the mountainside. The time, following the move, she'd taken a liking to wandering up alongside the mountain to discover new plants and their uses - one in particular had a relatively nice flavor (sweet to the taste) and so she collected it often to dispurse among other members for various things. She often made sweet waters (as well as other beverages), and prepared meals with it. Rahisi was also known for being generous, sharing the products she made with other members. Unfortunately this means that other members have been exposed to small doses of poison over a period of time.

During her most recent trip along the mountainside she found more of those plants, the sweet flavors tempted her and she (once again) consumed a thick piece of the plant, not thinking much of it - she collapsed.

Her son, Jua and mate, Throek`irid have taken Rahisi within the heart of Dov (their mountain) to be tended to. Rahisi will be tended to by Unyawo`Olulula and Malphas of the Bahari`mtoto. Their audience was requested by the Captain of a Warband that had been traveling near the borders of Dov Zjarri`fol.

Key Points
  • Dov Strunmah has recently joined the outside world - using primitive pharses like 'outlander' wouldn't be uncommon for the new faces (both Stormborn and Bahari`mtoto alike).
  • Rahisi was known to collect plants and use them in various products that could have been regularly consumed, she was unknowingly poisoning individuals.
  • Dov Strunmah hadn't allowed outlanders to regularly enter their safe 'bubble', but desperate times call for desperate measures and Throek`irid reaches that moment in his life. He has reached out to Zjarri`fol, who has in turn reached out to her contacts in the Bahari`mtoto - help is sent in the form of Unyawo`Olulula (Yawo) and Malphas (Mal).

His mate was pegged for death, he had personally invited outlanders in to help and now he had to make use of the resources temporarily at his paws. There was no way he would pass up the opportunity to gain as much knowledge as he could about what did this to Rahisi and what could potentially happen to his family, which included all of the other pride members - family helped family.

Today he spoke in place of the Jun, though Alduin maintained a steady presence nearby, ever a shoulder to lean against in need. "Good morning." He said, in a tone that appeared welcoming, yet was reasonably grim due to the circumstances. "As many of you may be aware, my mate, has fallen incredibly ill." At first he couldn't do it, could not admit that his mate would perish - that would come at a later time, for now only his immediate family would know (though of course the rumor mill could be grinding up those details and spitting them out). "Because of this we have recruited outlanders to help. They are here to diagnose, investigate and ultimately help Dov through this." He inhaled deeply for a moment, almost appearing to contemplate his next words.

"We were living within our walls for so long that we hadn't endeavored to use any of the plant life surrounding our home that wasn't immediately outside the wall. So understandably there have been those who have been testing, poking about and finding uses for various plants found along our mountainside. If you are feeling adverse effects due to this please speak with our doctor on hand - Malphas or Unyawo`Olulula." Names that even felt strange upon his tongue. Once that part of his speech was out he felt a little bit stronger.

"The lioness primarily conducting the search for plants will be Zjarri`fol - as you make your rounds in collecting the samples please have them brought to her." Of course the plants would end up with the other foreign lions, but this provided a singular point of contact. "Any questions or concerns please let me know - as I've already stated these lions are here to help." For the foreign lions the stress he put on the word would likely appear odd, but as they got to know the mountainside individuals it would become apparent that they had some trust issues.

The days leading up to this were dragging - so she had addressed her band of Vikings with what they ought to expect and what was expected of them, there would be no reaving today. Much like the outcome within the Bahari this was simply a seek and understand mission of sorts.

When she finally did approach the prides borders, this time followed by her band, she felt odd crossing it and even more odd sitting in the company of the prides leaders as an asset. The blue lioness wondered briefly if Tethys had felt this way? But promptly shook free that idea in favor of focusing on the here and now. The lioness next to her, who was forever by her side, Sabia`deimos, was rolling her shoulders (a quirk of the lioness that often adorned a pelt). "You look impatient." Zjarri snipped at her quietly, addressing the action, but received a look that told her to shut up, but still Sabia obeyed and ceased the action.

Then her name was stated by the bright, orange lion - Throek`irid. Her pink eyes naturally snapped up to peer at him and when she heard his entire speech she gave a silent nod, not feeling a need to say much more. Though her eyes did leave the orange lion and moved to focus on the growing number of lions gathered.

Well, this had proven to be a rather grim encounter. He had been briefly advised of the circumstances surrounding Zjarr's request for aid but when he had gotten there, he hadn't expected it to be quite so bad. Perhaps it was simply because he wasn't naive to the outside world, but there was something fundamentally wrong about the approach this pride had taken to experimenting with their plant life. Even he knew you didn't pass it around to every individual until you were absolutely certain it wouldn't kill them.

...Alas, now wasn't the time to lecture.

Instead, he had merely slipped over the border and gave a brief nod of his head to shoo his Reavers. They would be required of course, to take part in the search, but if he found them behind bushes sullying more females he would personally neuter them. There was a time and a place for dalliances and this was most assuredly not one of them. Thus, they were all too aware of what he expected from this hunt. They would find the herbs and figure out what was poisoning these very naive lions, and if they managed to take some back for their own use, even better.

"Don't swallow it," he ordered darkly as he strode off in an otherwise randomised direction to begin his search. "We really do not need to be joining the throng of the foolish," he murmured, at a volume only he would hear for now.

"Well aren't you quite the ray of sunshine today," the alchemist drawled as she swept passed him, deliberately flicking her tail against his nose. She had heard him, given that she had come with him by escort to ensure that her own alchemist was safe. While she wouldn't be staying for an extended period of time, Yawo had left while still in fragile health herself. The white lioness might be functional, but there was no guarantee she was fit for strenuous labour just yet.

Suffice it to say that it was within the lioness's best interests to ensure that her volunteer would be all right. This didn't mean that Zephyr had intentions of recalling her, merely that she would leave her with instructions if she had to. Mostly along the lines of giving her permission to tell doctors (who thought they knew it all) to shut up, or simply to have others do the heavy labour for her.

...Yes, every now and then it would have been safe to assume that Zephyr liked to put others in their place, especially if they were overly confident in their abilities. Doctors were particularly well known for possessing this trait, even in the Mwani.

Unsurprisingly, Tethys shot her a rather wry glance and continued on his way. He'd learned not to be so easily provoked by her, or frankly any of the bahari...

"And we are here today because...?" Suu'marle drawled as she slipped through the gates as one might have expected any other Reaver to do. She was playing the role well, and the Dov would know no better. Until such times as any of the Reavers called her bluff, and she doubted there would be an opportunity to do so, they were most likely going to be able to wander around largely unhindered.

"Research and development," Havase replied smoothly, choosing to ignore the lioness's usual demeanour as he afforded a warm smile towards a number of the otherwise wary pride. So far, Tethys had been functioning much the same way as he always had around them. That as to say that their darling Captain was almost entirely unaware that they were here, even when they were stood right behind him.

...It probably would have been a puzzling thing for any observer, but it was the norm.

"We're here to research why these individuals were poisoned?"

"Oh we know why, they ate something they shouldn't have," Havase pointed out and waved his paw dismissively. "We're just here to help you gather some materials after -"

"Fair play," Suu'marle interjected and gave a nod. "We had best look around then and see if any of their herbs are of use..."

Though she did not belong to Tethys' band she had joined in the hunt, however briefly she came and went as she pleased returning home and coming back to find the large war band had moved on. This time they seemed to be gracing a pride of fools. Why would anyone eat something they didn't know about? It made her chuckle.

The massive lioness had come to help. She and her vulture had good eyes and sharp claws, if it meant using them for digging and a bit of gardening she wasn't averse to the situation. She was of course going to abide by the rules, no reaving, no eating the plants, though that one was obvious and no dilly dallying. She snorted and stalked off in a random direction to search. "Fly up Gyps, find me some green stuff." She rumbled.

The white vulture spread her wings, she had been sat quite happily perched on the lionesses back until she was asked to move. She yawned, clicked her beak and with a mighty flap of her pale wings she took to the sky in search of green stuff. Who knew what green stuff they were searching for she would just find a good patch and lead SMM towards it.

User ImageRuna followed Tethys as he moved forward after instructing the rest of his band not to eat anything they might find. She rolled her eyes slightly at the thought of eating a plant...fruits were one thing, but leaves? She had never been fond of the texture. As a cub she and her siblings had made a rather silly game of 'stealing' meat and mint from a party, and while she had been quite fond of the choice bits of food they had taken, the mint had gotten stuck in her teeth and tasted strange on her tongue. From then on she stayed far away from plants, leaving them to the prey beasts of the world.

Finally she veered off from Tethys' tail, going on to search in her own area. It didn't take too long to sniff out the plant they were looking for, thankfully. She set to digging as a gentle tug didn't pull it out of the ground, and she was quite delighted to find that it was larger than she originally thought. Carefully taking the plant by the roots, she pressed on in search of more.

He was going his best to comfort the thriving young female who was at his side with a solemn look on her face. It was clear to her that their mother wasn't going to pull through but there was hope that they'd discover more about these plants so it didn't happen to anyone else. She leaned against the green male letting out a deep sigh and listened as her father spoke to the pride and the outsiders that were now within their borders.

Leaning his head atop of hers he looked down and gave her a reassuring smile. "Come, let's join the search for some of these plants, maybe it will help you keep your mind at ease." He offered her hopefully. He was continuing to find himself growing more and more attached to her and hoped to one day approach her father and let him know that. While he knew it wasn't something he had to do, he felt like he should since he's known the family since the pride was established.

Following along with Sabia and Zjar they had left the Bahari and were somewhere new now. Looking towards the large orange lion she was curious to know what had brought them this way and she perked her ears forward as she listened to him speak. She had been told a little of what was going to happen while they were in this pride but she was still curious to hear what the male had to say. She frowned a little at his words, that would have to be tough, losing the one you love to a mere plant. Hopefully they'd be able to help this pride out the best they could with the plants they were able to collect and analyse, not that she knew much about what they'd be picking up. She'd do her best though for sure.

Peering around a familiar figure came into view and she saw that Runa was with Tethys and his band. While she wasn't entirely surprised, she was out with a band herself. She was just pleased to see she wasn't the only one of her siblings to take the opportunity to follow some of the captains and other reavers out into the lands. "I'm going to go join my sister." She said to Sabia and Zar as she made her way towards her. "Surprising seeing you here." She said as she bumped into her shoulder.

Hanging on to her prize, Runa began to search for more. She wasn't sure how many lions in this pride had eaten the plant that had gotten the leader's mate so ill, but she knew they needed to find as much as they could, just in case. Hopefully no one would be foolish enough to eat more before this was taken care of.

A familiar voice caught her attention and she turned, fiery eyes widening in surprise as her sister bumped up against her. She set her mouthful of herbs down to speak, a smile stretching her faux grin wider than it already was.

"And a surprise to see you here," she returned, butting her head fondly against Valka's. "I joined Tethys' band," she added, nodding in the direction of her Captain who was off on his own. Runa had always craved adventure and what better way to do so than to assist the pale lion in his mission to strike down the demons that plagued him?

Xochi gave a long, wide yawn that showed off her teeth and peered wearily around them. Usually she was full of enthusiasm but, strangely, it seemed like she'd spent a lot of time looking for plants. Good plants. Bad plants. It was all well and good but she knew very little about either and, apparently, some had even made lions sick. Really sick.

She yawned again and, with a grown, shoved herself up onto her paws and peered across at her captain, giving him a nod to show that she had heard.

"Come on, Zili, let's go."

The dark lion scampered to her side and gave her a brief nod. This was his first outing and, in truth, he wasn't sure whether he was all that fond of the rogue lands anymore. His thirst for adventure had all but dried up - though he'd never actually had it to begin with. Still, he found the trait admirable and attractive, even.

"What's the greater purpose here?" he asked his skull-marked companion under his breath.

She shrugged, rolling her shoulders and slowly eased into her gait, "who knows. I follow orders."

These past few days had flown by in the blink of an eye. Hours blurred together as both him and Yawo worked together to ease Rahisi passing on top of working closely with the ever-growing research team Zjarri had put together. Not like they had have much choice in the matter; it was but a mere few hours after Rahisi's family came to say their good-byes were they greeted with the news that others had fallen ill as well.

It might have been a whole hell of a lot more than their original mission but both of them couldn't in good conscious not lend a paw to the pride.

Malphas was still bewildered by the whole mess. He had heard about being generous in life but this particular lioness had been skilled enough to be extremely generous even in death. If the situation at hand wasn't so grim he might have even been impressed at how far her influence seeped throughout the pride.

Instead he had spent the last day and night cursing the fact that apparently this pride was extremely fond on sharing supplies with one another, even ones that still had yet to be properly tested.

It wasn't the time nor was it really his place to criticize their life choices. Still he couldn't shake the lingering question of what the hell were they thinking?

Yet here he was, currently pacing back and forth between patients to keep an watchful eye on them. Despite his internal conflict Malphas had committed himself fully to the relief effort and seeing it through till they found a cure.

With the amount of people affected by the poison Yawo and Malphas had agreed to take shifts to get the most done on both fronts of the battle. One would stay out in the field with the researchers why the other tended to the patients.

Truly fate was amusing it's self by putting her in the right (or wrong depending on how one could look at it) place at the right time.

Her curiosity had gotten the better of her yet again. Recently some interesting talk had cropped up amongst the merchant network about a pride that isolated it's self in the mountains. At first she brushed it off as scouting parties or perhaps more of the viking war bands that had been active recently. But as she continued to hear more her interests had piqued.

Her internal struggle between logic and desire had come to a head with her finally turning tail from her course to make her way up the mountain. To be honest she wasn't quite sure what to expect from them. Hostility? There was a fair chance for it. Perhaps extreme believes kept them apart from the world? Or was it just a matter of no one bothering to try their hand at friendship with them before?

She didn't see any reason not to go explore new connections - well besides the obvious ones. To which her response was "Hey you only live once, right?"

What she certainly didn't expect in a million years was to walk herself right into the middle of a crisis. The moment the stocky lioness had crossed the gates she was on guard. Her alarm bells ringing that something wasn't right here.

Yet in a absolutely brilliant move she elected to push forward just a little more.

It had taken some time listening in on conversations amongst the wary pride members as she weaved pass to piece together what exactly was going on. Members had been poisoned and were not doing well. In a desperate move they sent out a plead of help.

Well that explained partly why they might have been wary of her no one moved to stop her or ask what exactly she was up to.

But the question that had lingered on her tongue ever since she had caught glances of the same familiar faces of the war band she had inadvertently been following popped up amongst the crowd....

What in gods name were the Stormborn doing here?

It felt incredibly odd for him to be so far away from his home. He had been uncharacteristically grumpy caused by his growing ever growing unease. Even before he had tossed his lot in with the Bahari Kaluwa wasn't ever found far from the sea. He knew it was strange for someone like him who didn't know the ocean existed until he was on the cusp of adulthood, but ever since he found it something drew him to it like a moth to a flame.

It had gotten to the point he had nearly forgotten what the outside world was like!

He might not have ever been reminded that there was life outside of the beach had it not for the rather grim situation. His knowledge exact details surrounding it were vague at best. No matter, he suspected that little tidbit would come in due time.

What mattered to him was that his specific goal was crystal clear: make sure the Bahari members were safe and provide whatever muscle/man-power that was needed.

It might not have been a fancy job but it was an important one none-the-less. He was happy to leave the rest to those much more capable. He was quite like a bull in a china shop when it came to handling more delicate matters like alchemy and he knew it.

Rolling his shoulders and head he cracked out some of the tension still lingering from charting into such foreign territory. It was time to chuck his personal matters aside and focus on the task at hand.

Primed and ready to go he finally spoke up, "Well no better time to get crackin' like the present."

"To put things plainly, they poisoned themselves," Tethys replied to Zili, glancing over his shoulder as he overheard the query. He sympathised with Xochi, she was no doubt hoping for something more interesting like the rest of her kin and quite frankly, he hadn't expected to be here either. However, the plants could prove useful to them when things got interesting and he had long come to accept that he needed all the help he could get. They might not know it now, but eventually they would come face to face with the things that he considered in dire need of extermination. To say he needed them to be ready was an understatement.

"Zjarri requested our assistance," he added and nodded towards the blue lioness. "Try and gather some of the herbs for us though, this might be under the guise of aiding them but in the grand scheme of things, we need the plants as well," he glanced briefly at Xochi and winked. "Maybe the next time we stumble on something it'll be more interesting," he added and moved forward.

It was then that he happened to catch sight of Imani and raise his eyebrow skyward.

...Was she following them?

"I can't believe they ate them," Suu'marle muttered as she swept one of the berries up to inspect it. It was glistening and so full of colour that even a junior poison maker would have known how useful they'd be. Unsurprisingly she also chose this moment to wave them in front of her companion and shake her head in disbelief. "I mean look at them," she demanded and tossed it into her little sack. "It's positively glowing and yet here they are, shoving them in their mouths!" she declared. Clearly exasperated, the lioness's native accent had begun to show.

"If I am right in what I have been hearing, this is not exactly their forte," Havase replied in his usual, relaxed manner. The mild smile remained on his lips as he swept forward and cast more of the berries into her sack. She might have been flustered, it really had been a rooky mistake, but if they had truly lived in mountains for so long then they really couldn't be blamed for their curiosity. Perhaps all they had known was roots? What exactly did they manage to eat down there...?

The same thing as the phantoms did in the warrens most likely.

"Afford them some sympathy," he uttered soothingly and motioned for her to continue with her search.

"Sympathy my a**," Suu'marle muttered as she stomped on.

Hm, he had to be here if his band was here. Wasn't it generally how things went with those types? Loyal till death yadda yadda brotherhood or something to that similar tune?

Well then it would be only a matter of time till he popped up some way or another. Even traveling amongst all of the pride gathering and the aid that had answered the call he wasn't going to be very hard to spot with his gigantic size and white coat. She just needed to have a little patience, and if there was one good trait she had it was that. She suspected if she waited it out they would manage to bump into one another. They did seem to have a awful knack for it after all.

Until then however she could focus her energy on the main task at hand. Raising an eyebrow she quietly watched as others went about to forage for varies plants to bring back. Sooooo that what everyone was tasked with then? Alright, simple enough. If plants is what they wanted, plants is what they would get.

Setting off onto a random course Imani began her hunt for whatever plant like substance that she could find. Roots, berries, leaves, twigs. No one she observed seemed to be carrying anything specific so she assumed every thing was fair game at this point.

Though she had to say she wasn't particularly thrilled at the thought of handling possibly poisonous substances. Even with extreme care accidents were still bound to happen. If one had proven to be harmful what was to stop other flora in this region from adapting the same evolutionary tactic as well? Ehhh, perhaps she should stop and find a better mode of transporting these than by mouth. That and asking what exact plant in question was the cause for the trouble in the first place would have been helpful.

Great job thinking ahead, Imani.

The flash of white in the corner of her eye followed by the familiar voice jolted Imani from her thoughts. Ah-ha. She was right! Where you find the sheep you'll find the shepherd not too far behind.

Abandoning the root she was trying to dig up Imani made a straight bee-line in his direction. Stopping herself in front of him held up a paw to silently ask for a moment as she dropped her finds so far at her feet.

"Okay before you ask or say anything ...no, I am not following you." Pausing her mouth formed a mild frown. "Or at least not anymore, I stopped after our last discussion since you answered my questions," she added on quickly at the end.

"I broke paths with you days ago. I came here merely to investigate this pride since there were rumors going on about them. Instead found this, started helping, saw your war band roaming about, and here we are yet again. Heh, I suppose the saying "It's a small world" is true ringing true after all."

Furrowing her brows together she lowered her tone to a mutter so it wouldn't travel far past them and his posse around him. "I would ask if you come here often and engage in more pleasantries but I don't believe it's really the appropriate time. So, instead I'll just start this off properly with; Hello Tethys. If you would be so kind because you appear to know more than I do, and please explain what the hell is going on here besides the fact that someone is poisoned and apparently they need plants for an...antidote I would assume?"

"Okay," She said lightly looking over at him and tried to manage a smile. There was some hope they'd be able to help others with these plants at least. But it was too late in her mind, the one person who needed to stay alive wasn't going to and this made her want to detach herself from everything, it if wasn't for Imrahil she'd probably be moping in her den still. "Things will get better." He said softly to her as they picked up a couple of the plants they were searching for. Still, Jua had been there for the whole thing. "I'm going to go talk to my brother." She said to him and made her way over towards him.

"...Jua?" She said his name giving him a searching look. Was he doing alright? It was devastating to her but it had to be a million times worse for him. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"So I noticed." She said with a light chuckle. "I'm here with Zar and Sabia." She said motioning towards the two lioness's over yonder. "It's sad what's happened here, it's crazy to think that it could happen to anyone though." Imagine if that happened in their pride, or to any of the cubs. It was a scary thought to think.
