Name: Theia Stage: Prentice Race: Alk/shifter Gender: Female 3 Base Traits: Defensive, skeptical, determined Personality: Defensive: Since she's been told her entire life that she's a mistake, Theia is very defensive about any sort of criticism about her. She doesn't take well to that, staring, whispering. This can range from rolling her eyes, to full on throwing things at people and screaming in their faces. It can also be read as aggression and instigating situations in which she gets beat up on (especially when she was little and was constantly fighting with the other boys and girls she grew up with)
Skeptical: If someone is nice to her, she automatically doesn't trust it. Her mind thinks they want something from her, or are trying to get close to her only to hurt her in the end. This goes more with adults than other children. She doesn't trust when things go right, either. This could also be read as pessimism.
Determined: Because Theia's fought tooth and nail for everything she wants and has, she's turned into a very determined teenager. She works hard and doesn't back down until she meets her goals. She doesn't care who she has to step on to get her goals either. Friends, or foes, she'll end up using people if it means her end game goes the way she wants it to.
History: Theia's life has been hard since birth. Somehow or other, her mother ended up leaving her with her father out of shame of a moment of weakness (Or so Theia thinks.). She's grown up with only him and Theia has asked many questions about her mother when she was young. He's called Theia an accident on more than one occasion.
Referring to her as an accident is soothing his ego in some way. Putting her down when it's really he and his ex's decision to have a child. He's fully aware that they had to plead for a child. At the time, they both wanted one. While it's more common for Alk/Shifter hybrids, Theia has grown up in such a way that she never seen another hybrid child. She doesn't wander toward the lands her mother is from. She just wanders anywhere away from her father's house.
Remny and her mother (Who's name is never spoken, so to this day Theia has no idea who she is) met by chance at one of the markets. He was on crutches after losing a fight and ended up with more broken bones and bruises than anything seriously life threatening, and her mother was also a warrior. The two found each other at a booth that sold weaponry and trinkets for your weapons. They both took a liking to a spear and their relationship began as passionately as that argument for the spear. (Which Theia's mother ended up winning, by the way.)
It was a whirlwind romance when both were very young, just getting their 'adult' legs. (Just out of Prentice stage.) They believed they'd be together until the end of their days. So they pleaded for a child and they were blessed with Theia.
However, with Remny not joining her in her homeland for the actual birth of the child, she started second guessing his devotion to her. Remny wasn't ready to enter that world and wasn't going to 'try to be accepted' among her people. They had never talked of where they were going to live, how to raise the child. There were never talks of marriage or even merging of houses.
She tried to raise Theia herself for the first few months, but never heard anything from Remny. She did, however, find out from a Sister traveling the world, that Remny had been seen on multiple occasions with another woman. (To this day it's still unconfirmed if he had relations with this woman.) So, she sent her best friend to deliver Theia to him. She could no longer look Theia without being incredibly heartbroken.
Remny wasn't an unproviding father. He does love his daughter, he's just distant with her and always has been. He'd hold her when she cried as a baby. He taught her how to take care of herself, but as soon as she started cooking her own meals, he began going down to the local inn's tavern day in and day out. Not to say he was a lush, but he was just avoiding being home with her. He didn't want to answer the questions she asked, or just didn't know how to handle them, so he avoided her. He left her coin for food, he always paid any debts.
Since she's never seen another hybrid like herself, she doesn't know how to feel about them. She does, however, regret her existence and feels sorry for almost any other Shifter hybrid she meets. Theia thinks it's normal to have an absolutely isolated and miserable childhood.
She's written her mother off. Doesn't even think of her most of the time. She doesn't want to really think of her father, either. Theia has no desire to find out who this mystery woman is, nor does she care to find out the reason she was given up. She doesn't wish her ill or anything. She just has no feelings toward her.
Theia's had Shifter kids throw things at her, calling her ugly and stupid. She's gotten in several fights with the other kids because she was determined to show she was just as good as those kids, despite what they kept saying. She had a loose tooth knocked out with a rock a boy threw at her once.
Remny tried to talk to the children's parents, tried to plead with the children themselves, but he's not very good with words. So he did teach Theia how to stick up for herself with a few light punches or kicks. Taught her to go for boys with a kick between their legs if they start getting really rough. Some of the more cruel adults would sit there and call her an abomination. An elder stuck in his ways once said that she should have been drown as a baby to save the world from looking at her.
Her life wasn't completely bad, however. She had a friend. A little Shifter girl by the name of Kaleya. They were friends for years. Kaleya would be right beside her defending her, making sure her wounds were clean, or that Theia was clean before going home. Eventually, because of her parents jobs, Kaleya moved away.
