Vast Poni Canyon is a very large and challenging hike with ups and downs that can't be compared to any other. There are paths along the canyon walls that allow access to the tops, and long bridges connecting the gaps so that travelers can explore. Many strong trainers come here to test their skills against the terrain and tough pokemon. Kahuna Hapu will accept challenges here for her Groundium Z crystal at the entrance of the canyon, under the dead tree. Deep within the canyon is an old trial site, said to be the first trial that started the long tradition in Alola. Here challengers can fight the native Kommo-o and it's pre-evolutions in a test of strength and endurance for a dimension shard.

Poni Island Kahuna Challenge

Battling the Island Kahuna is an old tradition of the Alola region. With the gyms set up, many trainers now choose to do the league challenge rather than the island challenge, but Alola keeps to tradition and will continue to look to the Tapu for new island kahunas, and the kahunas will take on any challenger. Kahunas do not need to be done in any particular order, and can only be battled once. After posting a battle with the kahuna, please quote a mod for approval.

Trial #7: Vast Poni Canyon

Trials do not need to be done in order, require 15 wild pokemon encounter posts to initiate, and reward one dimensional shard upon completion. You must roll for the attacks of both the Totem, and any allies it has out, unless specific attacks are listed for certain rounds. Whoever goes first is pre-determined and fixed, and cannot be changed by items or stat changes. This is to make things a bit more challenging for the easier trials, and easier for the more difficult ones.

Trial Pokemon cannot be caught, and Totem pokemon cannot be one-hit K.O.ed, and have Totem Aura, which gives them individual boosts to certain stats. These boosts will be stated for each totem. The totem pokemon give out set exp, however, the total experience earned per battle depends on how many pokemon are earned, and how long the battle takes, and EXP Items do not effect EXP earned from these battles. When you have completed a trial, please quote a mod for approval.

PLEASE NOTE: This system is very much in beta. There's no real way to test it that wouldn't hold things up, so we roughed this out to put out with the rest of the guild. As issues arise (trials being too easy, or too difficult), we will make adjustments. This means that if you are one of the first people doing the trials, you should be aware that other people may have to work harder, or may have it easier, depending on the trial, and the adjustments we make. Please know this going in, so that there's a reduced chance of hard feelings or accusations of things being 'unfair'. We're trying out best.

    -7 rp posts are required, then roll an 10-sided dice. This will determine the Pokemon that appears. In the next post, roll a 4-sided dice to determine level of the wild Pokemon. Only certain pokemon can ask for help. If you encounter one fo these pokemon and choose to activate the SOS system, it will cost you 1 encounter post per SOS pokemon summoned (max of three per battle). You must then roll for which pokemon is summoned, and what the level of that pokemon is. Only one pokemon can be summoned at a time

✧✧【 The flight from Galar to Alola was a helluva length trip, considering how far apart the two regions were in respect to each other. Jaffa, newly energized from their meal before leaving, was able to carry them over the ocean well enough for the few hours it took for them to arrive at Poni Island before he started to tire. ”Let’s drop down here, you can rest for a bit,” Eveline said, pointing down towards the enormous canyon that stretched out below. Not exactly the most ideal area to rest, but at the very least they should be able to find a Wishing Star here according to her map and the locations listed on the flyer… She wasn’t exactly too familiar with Poni in general, having done quite a few jobs around Alola but this island they never really touched at all. Not that there really was any business they had to deal with in this particular neck of the woods, since Poni wasn’t anywhere near as urbanized and bustling with civilized activity as the other islands were.

With a relieved warble Jaffa descended down, coming to rest on the ground at the base of the giant dead tree at the canyon’s entrance. Giving him a gentle pat on the neck, Eveline dismounted and stretched, feeling the circulation to her legs slowly starting to return after the long flight. ”Phew… Here’s hoping zee other regions won’t be as much trouble to travel between,” she murmured, already thinking of where they would hit up next once they had gotten all the stars they’d need here.

Vast Poni Canyon was a huge maze of sheer cliffs and caves, searching the entirety of the area would be a bit of a tall order. She wasn’t much of a rock climber herself, she didn’t have a grappling hook, and the cliffs would definitely be far too dangerous to parkour around. And even if she was a pretty good acrobat, taking a tumble from that high up would still hurt. Like a lot. Like, at least both legs and maybe an arm broken at the very least. Her first thought was to send out Gin and Tonic, but even they might have difficulty actually trying to climb up those huge cliffs. ”Suppose we’ll have to call in ze cavalry,” she concluded, taking out a couple Pokeballs and calling out Gimlet and Tequila, ”You two are probably zee best equipped for ze job, search this place and find that star.” The Perrserker, more than happy to finally get some action after being stuck in his ball for so long, grinned easily as he flexed his claws.

”Leave it t’ me, boss.” And with that, Gimlet was already off, running over towards the wall that was immediately closest to them. Taking a brief moment to assess how high up he’d have to climb, he gave an easy grin, dagger sharp claws sliding out as he forcefully drove them forward and dug them into the rock. With a clumsy yet rather effective grace, the Perrserker began scaling the canyon wall at a rather quick pace. Tequila, however, wasn’t nearly as quick to take up the initiative as she took one look around before fixing Eveline with the most ‘You’re seriously making me do this’ glare that she could muster. Gimlet was already on the case, why should she have to do anything? This was the kind of work best left to the peons as far as she was concerned. ”Well, I guess you don’t exactly need to help out if you don’t want to, Te… I could always just ask Sin instead,” Eveline said, a sly smirk crossing her face as she made to reach for the Dragapult’s ball. That seemed to do it as the Centiskorch’s sharp yellow eyes narrowed, giving a harsh chittering sound as the antennae-like flames framing her face flared up in agitation. No way in hell was she going to give that meddlesome dragon a chance to one-up her, not if she had anything to say about it. With a sizzling hiss Tequila curtly turned away from the redhead and followed after Gimlet’s lead, her many legs easily carrying her along as she crept her way up the canyon wall. 】✧✧

✧✧【 Though she was able to climb her way up the canyon far easier with her numerous legs keeping her balanced, Tequila huffed as she found she’d made it up to the top of the wall well after Gimlet. The Perrserker was waiting for her as she finally peered over the ledge, wide grin across his bearded face. ”Hey hot stuff~ Took ya long enough,” he chuckled, winking at her cheekily as he flexed his claws. The Centiskorch simply narrowed her eyes and hissed in return, not bothering to dignify the statement with a response as she took a quick look around. She could see a small opening in the rocks close by, she might be able to fit inside with some difficulty but Gimlet’s smaller size made him a more suitable candidate by default. She could see another larger cave over the rocky bridge connecting this side of the canyon to the other, but decided against going over there herself, it’d just be more work than she felt like doing at the moment.

”See if you can squeeze yourself in there,” she hissed demandingly, gesturing over towards the small hole in a sort of half pointing half shooing motion, ”You’re smaller, so you’ll do nicely enough.” Gimlet rolled his eyes, knowing that she was mostly just using whatever excuse to not do it herself because she was that lazy. Still, looking at the hole itself maybe her words did hold some water, disingenuous as they sounded… He’d certainly have an easier time getting in, as funny as the image of a nine foot tall centipede trying to force herself inside an opening far smaller than her would be. ”Aye sure. As ya wish, yer Highness,” he muttered, trying not to let his sarcasm show through too much. Turning away, he carefully clambered his way into the small hole. Hopefully this wouldn’t lead to anywhere particularly dangerous… Even as a Steel type and decently well protected by his armor-like fur, taking a surprise dive off a cliff was hardly a scenario he’d imagine ending well for anyone. 】✧✧

✧✧【 Even with his small size, the little tunnel was a bit tight as he used his claws to pull himself through until he emerged on the other side. To his relief, the tiny tunnel lead into a wide open interior chamber, the path forking out in front of him around a large flat rock formation. The right path was covered in a thick layer of rocks, while they didn’t appear to be sharp it certainly looked like it’d be pretty difficult terrain to be able to get across without some kind of aid… The left path was clear, so naturally he took that way until he noticed the rocky terrain blocking the way up ahead at the intersection. Jeez… well of course it wouldn’t be easy, thankfully he had other means of being able to get around it. Digging his metal claws into the wall again, Gimlet climbed his way up and around, easily bypassing the rough terrain below as he carefully scanned the surrounding area in search of those weird glowing rock things Lam had told them about. A faint red glow from below his position caught his attention, a small purple rock giving off a very alien feeling energy… Even from ten feet away he could sense it, that was definitely what they were looking for… Only problem was that said rock was also surrounded by a trio of Sableye, the gem-eating ghosts poking and prodding at the odd looking stone curiously. Knowing their kind, they were probably trying to determine if it was food or not, and sure enough one of them picked up the thing and began experimentally raking its teeth across its surface, thankfully not leaving any severe damage on the stone.Those hard chompers were well adapted for crunching up gemstones, after all…

They didn’t seem to have any idea that he was there, far too fixated on the odd glowing rock to pay much attention to anything else. Grinning eagerly, Gimlet braced his feet against the wall as he pulled his claws out of the rock, preparing to launch himself at them once he worked himself free.
”BANZAAAAIII!” he shouted as he shot right off the wall and into the group of ghosts below, his hard helmeted head colliding right into the one Sableye’s chest. Taken by surprise, it dropped the purple rock as it was forcefully shoved backwards, the other two quickly jumping back as the sudden attack caught them off guard. Gimlet wasted no time swiping the star, already running back the way he came as he heard angered hissing coming from behind. He had a good headstart on them, but they could easily catch up as he saw the trio of gem-eaters already crawling along the surrounding walls after him, gnashing their teeth and snarling in annoyance and frustration. Using the surrounding loose formations to cross over the rough rocky terrain below at a quicker pace, the Perrserker made his way back to the tunnel just as they caught up with him. Sharp purple claws slashed out at him, just barely missing or bouncing off the iron hard fur protecting his shins as he ducked inside. Hopefully they wouldn’t try to follow him, though as he chanced a quick glance back as he pushed through the tunnel it seemed they weren’t willing to chase him outside of the cave. Heaving with exertion as he popped back outside, the Perrserker held up the star in tired victory as he slumped over a little, taking a moment to catch his breath.

Tequila, seeming pleased, swiped the glowing stone from his outstretched hand, already heading back down to the valley to give it to their trainer without so much of a glance back at him. Huffing at the Centiskorch essentially taking the credit for finding the star for herself, Gimlet tagged along after her, trying to not let his frustration show too much as they brought their finding back to their trainer. ”Nicely done, you two,” Eveline admonished with a grin, giving them each a few pats on the head while being very careful to not burn herself on the Centiskorch’s flames before returning them. By this time, Jaffa seemed a bit more rested up now after a short respite, chirping cheerfully as he awaited directions on where to go next. At least they wouldn’t have too far to go for the next location from here…
