Lafayette heard the communicator buzz and glanced down at Cheri as she read over the message from Mel. The Espurr took her time with it and her trainer couldn’t help but be a bit annoyed at the delay.
"Well?" His tone was abrupt and the pink pokemon took a few seconds before craning her neck to look up at the man. She stared in silence before finally communicating what the Aussie wanted to know. Lumiose? That was in… Kalos? That was quite the ways a way and well… not Alola. That was fine though and Lafayette turned to Dova.
"A’igh’ Dova. Guessin’ we’re headin’ for Kalos instead," he remarked, earning an excited cheer. The Noivern ducked down and let her trainer mount up, staring at Cheri who’d taken to glancing back at the fleeting form of Adder and his pokemon before toddling over and joining Lafayette on the dragons back. Once everyone was (assuredly) secured they took off for the alternate region the meet with Mel and Brian once more.

Though Rotom had mentioned that Kiwae was a fire user, what he'd failed to add was that his trial was located at the summit of a volcano. Though in relatively good shaped, Naomi huffed as he hiked up the trail carved into the volcano; this was a bit steeper than he'd expected, and it was quite the work out! Curious to see how his land-bound pokemon were faring--Sousa and Rotom could fly, so he doubted he was having much trouble, and Tomoe had taken to resting on his left shoulder--he cast a glance behind his right shoulder. Jingū was as peppy as ever, and kept a jaunty stride just behind him, with Mori right beside her. Ieyasu was on his right, ears twitching curiously as he took in the new terrain. All three would alter their pace when Naomi began slowing down, with Ieyasu giving him a curious look in the process.
Ahaha, it looked like the only one who was struggling was him.

Determined not to embarrass himself in front of his pokemon too much--or at least the new folks, Ieyasu and Sousa had witnessed several embarrassing moments over the years--Naomi dug deep and found his second wind, his determination to keep up a certain image fulling his body into taking longer strides that got them past the halfway point. It was after that milestone, however, that Naomi was forced to take a break. With a sigh he flopped down onto a smoother stone (instantly regretting it), and after the pain in his rear had subsided he pulled open his knapsack to begin rifling through it. In an attempt to distract his mind from the soreness of his calves, and how he was breathing a bit too hard for just a simple uphill climb, Naomi had started thinking of the upcoming battle, and how it wouldn't help to give Ieyasu a little boost in strength.
He didn't remember buying this many in the store, but... "Here you are, Ieyasu." Unwrapping the first of the candies, Naomi extended a rare candy on the palm of his hand to his partner. The Eevee, after sniffing the confection, took it into his mouth and crunched down on it, and then the six more his trainer offered him. Afterwards he licked his muzzle, clearing away any potential candy bits, aware of the slightly envious look Jingū was giving him; she wanted candy too... "Do you feel any stronger?" Naomi asked, after all that was the point behind giving them to him. Ieyasu closed his eyes, doing his best to sense something within him, before he opened them again, "Ee!"

Not keen on littering Naomi swept the empty wrappers into the pockets of his shorts, the soft crinkle that emitted from them every so often a good reminder to throw his trash away once he got down from the volcano, then stood back to his feet. He'd recovered just enough energy to make the last leg up to Kiwae, and now that Ieyasu was even stronger, he felt that they were more than ready. Or, well, they would be. "Take this," he said, right before handing Ieyasu a small purple crystal. One could never be too safe, after all. Ieyasu, with no hands, had to resort to taking the crystal in between his teeth; it left him looking silly, but it was what he had to do. Naomi, stifling a laugh, beckoned for his team to start moving again.

☆ ☆【They certainly smelled the smoke and sulfur coming from the small geysers that lined the entrance of Wela Volcano Park long before they even saw it, the rocky cliffside path stretching before them only going a short distance before leading past the huge mouth of the tunnel close by. Overall, the route itself appeared to be rather short, yet the path leading down towards the beach hinted that there were likely more surprises hidden in more sandy nooks in the water below. There was even a fairly moderate-sized island nearby that could easily be accessible via surfing. Zoey wasn’t all that terribly interested in that, however, her focus was pointed more towards the entrance to Wela Volcano Park.”Goodness, I do not think I have ever been even this up close to an active volcano before,”Orpheus remarked, gazing up with awe at the enormous volcano that made up the entirety of the park, clearly visible from where they were standing,”I suppose it would be safe to assume that it is not… active?”
”Well, I mean it technically is still active, but as far as I remember it’s been a pretty long time since it actually erupted,” the woman explained, unable to help chuckling as she noticed the way Orpheus’s amber eyes widened in uncertainty with perhaps a tinge of fear. She gently patted his arm with a light laugh, ”Relax, Orph! Ain’t like the damn thing’s gonna erupt while we’re on it, I can assure you it’s about 99.5% safe at the very least~” The Zoroark’s brow furrowed, still somewhat doubtful, but he supposed that there was probably little use in worrying over something that probably wasn’t even all that likely to happen. If it was of any comfort, it didn’t seem like the top of the huge volcano was smoking very heavily, then again he wasn’t entirely sure if that was a good sign or not. Volcanoes weren’t all that common where he was from, and he certainly wasn’t curious (or potentially suicidal) enough to get all that close to one to begin with. Hopefully they wouldn’t stick around the volcano park for too long then in that case. The Torracat huffed, flicking his tail dismissively and yawning.”I was hoping for more of a challenge, but whatever. I do feel at least a bit stronger, so it’s something at least,”he commented somewhat dismissively, flexing his claws once he was fully healed up. Freya, on the other hand, was far more enthusiastic as she impatiently thumped her tail against the ground.”Aw yea, that was some pretty good s**t! I’m already feelin’ pretty ********’ fantastic after that, so let’s keep the ball rollin’, eh?”Zoey hummed softly as Orpheus translated for them, feeling glad that at least someone was feeling pretty pumped up about the training that lay ahead of them. ”Heh, well sure, if we can find any other wild Pokemon or trainers to go up against that is,” she agreed with a chuckle, blinking and squinting as she glanced around at the rest of the surrounding area. Seemed like the area was pretty sparse so far, it didn’t look like there were a lot of other trainers in the area aside from the two she had just battled. Somewhat disappointing, but she wasn’t about to give up hope. ”Y’know… I did get this thing back at the Spookival,” she said, reaching into her bag momentarily and pulling out the strange stick she had grabbed after completing the corn maze, ”I think it’s… some sorta incense? Not really sure what it does, though… I kinda grabbed it on a whim without much thought, y’know?” She hadn’t seen incense of this particular kind being sold in any stores, perhaps they were a limited time item that was only sold every so often? Hell if she knew… There was also the matter of that weird book she’d also found in the maze and what it did too, but perhaps she could figure that particular mystery out later.

She had to admit that the idea of not knowing what could happen unless it was activated was interesting, she would be lying if she said that she didn't like a good mystery. She wondered what sort of Pokemon it would attract if she was to light it, though for all she knew it could bring in a bunch of icky Bug-types that she absolutely hated. ☆ ☆【Zoey thoughtfully rolled the stick of incense between her fingers as they kept walking onwards towards the volcano park, bringing the white-tipped end that acted as the wick close to her face and sniffing experimentally at it. Perhaps the smell would hint at what sort of incense it was, at least that was whatever excuse for a logical explanation she had thought of that seemed to make the most sense. It admittedly had a bit of an earthy kind of scent to it, but upon taking a few deeper whiffs she could pick up on a few other aromatic notes even with the other strong smells of sulfur all around them. There was a faintly sharp hint of something metallic in there somewhere, though it was a bit more difficult to pick up on it as the earthiness was quite overpowering. Either that or maybe she was picking up on something from all the steam and smoke those geysers were belching up that was all over the place here, which was probably very unlikely or else the smell of burning metal could be detected from five miles away. Well, as far as she knew it could realistically be anything at this point, but if she had to venture a guess or two… The earthiness of the scent could believably hint at Ground or Rock-type, although with that bit of odd metallic odor mixed in there it could very well be Steel too. But with how much stronger the robust scent of earth was from what she picked up, that was probably a bit of a stretch… The more she pondered over it, the greater her curiosity grew as to what exactly would come if she was to light the incense. Zoey paused in her musings only briefly to glance up as they walked down the path of steaming geysers leading into Wela Volcano Park, one step closer to their goal of the next island trial.】☆ ☆

As the girls walked, the ocean came more and more into view, as did the volcano they were steadily approaching. The heat was getting more and more dry, which seemed to be the reason for so many people to be enjoying the waters to their right. Tay for the most part wasn't the least bit bothered by the heat, having to much fun with her Pokemon to care really. Though the impending threat of more Psychic-types coming at them in dire want of the smell being wafted from the still burning incense kept Avikna on edge. Her gaze shifted from one side of the route to the other. Little did she realize their next threat was going to come down from the sky! Bounding from seemingly out of thin air, approached an Oranguru, a large ape-like Pokemon. The group halted in their tracks, noting the Psychic's presence. It seemed to of appeared in a hurry but now... simply sat there staring at them.
Somehow Yumin took this as a threat and attacked. It took only one move, and the ape was downed. "I'm going to get this one too!" Tay shouted. One more without much forethought the teen reached into her pouch and lobbed a ball into the air. "Tay." Avikna spoke firmly. The red-head's worries hadn't been over thinking. She had to n** this in the butt before it became to much to handle. Though it was to late to stop the capture of the Oranguru, Avikna made sure to end it before another Psychic-type became the unwilling member of Tay's growing team. "I think you're getting to ahead of yourself." The red-head continued, stepping in front of Tay. Looking up, Tay frowned, tilting her head with a curious gaze in her eyes. "What do you mean, Avikna?" She replied. "Your catching to many Pokemon to soon together." Folding her arms the red-head motioned towards the several new companions they'd accumulated.. along with some of the ones Tay had somewhat started to neglect. "You're young, inexperienced. I think you're taking on more than you can handle." The red-head let out a soft sigh, not entirely wanting to be to hard on Tay. "I think you need to release a few, let them find trainers who can take better care of them." Tay's confused look turned teary-eyed.
Looking towards her Pokemon, each and every one of them looked just as saddened by Avikna's words. Tay looked back at her mentor with a pout. "You have lots of Pokemon to." She replied. Avikna turned her gaze to the side for only a moment before returning her gaze to Tay. "This isn't about me. I'm telling you this for your own good. Do you have any idea how to take care of all these Pokemon? How long it will take for you to train them up evenly? What of Cotee or Manuel? You've barely even seen them fight." Tay was fighting her hardest at this point not to cry, but even as she tried to keep them in, warm tears trickled down her cheeks. She had to remain firm... lest Tay end up like her.

☆ ☆【Breezing over Lush Jungle’s thick canopy, Piper cruised low as they headed towards their next destination. Zoey was feeling confident after completing that last trial, going up against Kahuna Olivia was almost sure to be a breeze in comparison. Not that she should underestimate a Kahuna of all people, it was still very possible that Olivia could give them a good bit of challenge like Mallow had. Either way, she felt like they were more than ready for it. Though the more she thought about it, it was almost hard to believe that she was already technically halfway through her island challenge now that she had four trial captain stamps. It seemed like only just yesterday she had started out on her island journey for the first time. Hell, it might as well have been yesterday since it’d only been at least a few days since she’d arrived in Alola to start her challenge. Still, with Akala’s trials now more or less concluded, Zoey was more than ready to take off for a bit and do some exploration and sightseeing elsewhere.
She’d been mulling over where they might head off to first after wrapping up their business in Konikoni… Her initial plan had been to go to Kanto first since it was the region closest to Alola, but the more she thought about it maybe she wasn’t quite ready to go there yet for… reasons... Maybe it would be better to start out with a region she wasn’t quite as familiar with, like Sinnoh or Unova or Kalos. Speaking of… Su Yan had mentioned that he’d planned to go to Sinnoh for the contests back in the dream world, she could use this opportunity to meet up with him again if he was already there. It would be a bit of a longer trek to get to Sinnoh from here, but hopefully Piper could handle it.
The all too familiar scent of sulfur stung her nose as they passed over Route 7, the woman glancing over to catch sight of the Wela Volcano Park in the distance. ”Heh, doesn’t seem like it was that long ago we were passin’ through here for the first time,” she remarked idly. Orpheus hummed in agreement, a light laugh escaping him as he looked towards the volcano, seeming relieved to see that it hadn’t erupted since then. Piper, on the other hand, seemed more focused on something going on below as her sharp ears caught hints of a conversation somewhere nearby.”Seems like there’s something going on down there… I can smell something strange too… like lavender,”Gemini remarked, her eyes scanning the area to pinpoint the source of the oddly pleasant aroma that seemed out of place with the odor of burning rock and acrid sulfur,”It could be worth checking out.”
Zoey pursed her lips, unable to help but feel somewhat curious as to what had suddenly drawn Gemini and Piper’s attention. ”Alright, let’s touch down here then,” she suggested, directing the Noivern to descend towards the ground. A few yards away, Zoey could make out the figures of a pair of people. Her mind jumped immediately to the two girls she’d come across on her way out of the Verdant Cavern, though it certainly wasn’t them upon a closer look, rather it was a tall, intimidating looking red-haired woman and a younger girl who looked to be accompanying her. Perhaps a mother and daughter, maybe siblings, or a teacher and mentor…? Zoey wasn’t entirely sure, though now she could hear their voices as it sounded like the older woman was scolding the younger for catching too many Pokemon too quickly as she gestured towards the multitude of Pokemon that were following them. The little girl looked confused as the red-haired woman continued to explain, saying that she was taking on more than she could reasonably handle and suggesting that she release a few to find new homes. As the woman went on, the look of confusion on the young girl’s face gave way to watery eyes and a pout as she insisted the other had a lot of Pokemon too. Still, the woman stayed firm as she dismissed the statement, and Zoey decided she’d heard more than enough. The younger girl at this point looked about ready to cry, and that really struck a chord in her. Taking a deep breath, Zoey dismounted from Piper and approached the two, her Pokemon following closely behind her.
”Yo,” she called out to them, waving a ‘hello’ to them to get their attention, ”I, uh, couldn’t help overhearin’ yer conversation there… Dreadful etiquette, I apologize.” She offered a small smile, hopefully they didn’t take much offense to the fact that she had been eavesdropping on them and had just come up to them out of nowhere. ”But if yer lookin’ to find some new trainers n’ homes for all those new Pokemon ya caught n’ ya aren’t sure ya’d be able to take care of, I’d be more than happy to help out,” she suggested, rubbing at the back of her neck sheepishly, ”’Course I’d understand if ya don’t trust me, seein’ as I kinda just rolled up to the party without any invitation…” That kind of reaction would be realistic and justified, Zoey certainly wouldn’t trust any old stranger who just came up to her offering to take some of her own Pokemon off her hands with the promise of finding new homes for them. ”Right, introducin’ myself would be an idea, eh? Name’s Nizhoni Larsson, but just Zoey is absolutely fine by me,” she added, dipping her head politely towards the pair.
Gemini stayed close by the redhead’s side as she scanned the two, her eyes darting towards what seemed to be the source of the floral aroma, a stick of incense that the pair had with them. She felt a strange, insistent need to move closer towards the source of the scent nagging at her in the back of her mind, as if it was trying to lure her in... It took every ounce of willpower the Espeon had to ignore the persistent feeling and kept her feet glued to the spot as she squashed the urge down, blowing out a breath and averting her gaze from the pair. Neither of these two matched the description of her client, which meant that they were probably still waiting for her over in Konikoni City. Her telepathic scan of the place didn't even pick up on any familiar thought patterns that would indicate the missing rookie was around here either, so as far as she was concerned there wasn't anything else of interest to be found in this particular area. Turning away, Gemini padded back over towards Piper, jumping onto the Noivern’s back and seating herself in preparation for them to get going again after Zoey finished whatever business she had to take care of here.】☆ ☆

Witnessing Tay's large brown eyes squint with the urge to fight tears made Avikna feel something she hadn't really experienced is a great many years. A part of her that reminded the red-head she wasn't quite the soulless, heartless being many in her past would commit her to being. Still, she couldn't just let Tay get away with taking on to much to handle, considering she was still very much new to the whole 'trainer' deal. "Listen, Tay..." Avikna closed her eyes, trying to actually think of something good to say in this situation.... but nothing was coming to mind.
It was then, an unfamiliar voice called out drawing Avikna's attention. A absolute tower of a woman, atleast compared to Avikna and Tay was approaching them both. She mentioned quickly she'd overheard their conversation; making note that it was somewhat rude of her to be eavesdropping. Tay made a sniffling sound as she looked over the Pokemon this woman had with her. Avikna herself made the same quick observation. An Espeon, one of few Pokemon that seemed to evolve only when sharing an extreme bond with their trainer stood at her side, for only a small while before it returned to a Noivern nearby. Of Course Nijrn had noticed the fellow Noivern long before their landing and and watched them with curiosity as they landed nearby Avikna and Tay. Looking back to Mave, she quickly told the lupine she was going to land and see if she couldn't strike up a conversation with the Noivern that had landed. Luckily, it seemed the human on the Noivern's back was going to speak with her own human. Plopping down to the ground a fair bit away, Nijrn steadily approached trying to get the fellow Noivern's attention.
As far as talking to strangers went, the woman hit the nail on the head. "Right. It's so hard to trust people these days." Or any day as far as Avikna goes. Team Rocket and her past with them always tugging at the back of her head, ever drudging up the pain in her arm and shoulder from the incident with Ookoth and her father. "Avikna, and this is" "I am Tay." The teen interupted Avikna so obruptly that it somewhat took Avikna by surprise. Though a quick glance over to the teen made Avikna realize why she'd done it... she looked less like she was going to cry and more like a child ready to throw a tantrum. Letting Tay's current mood be pushed aside, Avikna turned her attention back to the woman. Her initial thought of this 'Zoey' being an amazonian was still firm, and despite her seemingly polite demeanor it still wasn't making her feel at ease. Tay, albeit upset at this time was naive enough to not yet feel the pains of constantly being on edge. "I want to be a good trainer, like Avikna. She has lots of strong Pokemon and I just want to be like her!" Tay continued, her tone firm and just a pinch bit sour.
Letting out a sigh, she folded her arms. "Tay, My Pokemon didn't become strong all at once." She voiced. "I also didn't catch them all at once either." Just about the only Pokemon she caught together were Arietty and Mave and that was at the very beginning of her journey, or just about. "Getting strong takes time and patients. You need to have time to be one on one with your Pokemon, and you just can't do that yet." Tay looked at Avikna, her pout returning, but at least the tears were seemingly held behind the dam for now. Perhaps, with a second opinion Tay might change her mind? Zoey, despite Avikna's initial on edge thoughts, looked to be a capable trainer herself so perhaps Tay would pick up on that as well and finally understand what Avikna was talking about.

☆ ☆【Zoey did feel pretty bad about listening in on these two’s conversation, even though she hadn’t exactly meant to. At the very least she had the good grace to apologize for eavesdropping as she decided to intervene and approach the pair, offering to help them out with their present issue regarding the increasing number of Pokemon the younger girl was taking in. At the very least they didn’t seem too offended, though the redheaded woman who was clearly the more mature one of the pair looked somewhat on edge as she observed Zoey and her Pokemon. The woman shared her agreement and sentiments on how hard it was to trust people these days, to which Zoey gave a wholehearted nod and a wry smile in concurrence. The woman then introduced herself as Avikna, preparing to do the same for her younger companion as well until the girl, Tay, cut the older lady short as she gave her own name as well. Zoey blinked, a little taken aback by the suddenness of the interruption, but given the look on Tay’s face like that of a child told they couldn’t have any dessert it was clearly done intentionally out of defiance. Not that the tall redhead could really blame her, any trainer would be reluctant to release or give away their Pokemon to find new owners, but still…
”Well it’s real nice to meet ya both,” Zoey offered with a warm smile. Her eyes went back to Tay as the teen spoke up again, saying that she wanted to be a good trainer like Avikna since she had a lot of strong Pokemon in her company. Which, in all fairness, was hardly a bad aspiration to have as far as Zoey was concerned… But of course, being a trainer also meant taking on a lot of responsibility when it came to catching so many Pokemon to train, and there was such thing as taking on too much responsibility. Still, Tay seemed determined to try to keep all of the Pokemon she had been catching, even though she likely wasn’t as prepared to try and train each and every single one. From the sounds of it, even some of the Pokemon she’d already had for quite a while had already started to become neglected from lack of training and attention.
Avikna stood firm on her own stance, however, insisting that her Pokemon hadn’t become strong all at once and that she hadn’t caught them all at once either. Zoey nodded in agreement as the woman went on, saying that it took patience and time to be able to grow stronger and that Tay needed time to be one on one with her Pokemon which she couldn’t do just yet. ”She’s right, ya know,” she cut in after Avikna had spoken her piece, pursing her lips as she took on a firm yet sympathetic tone, ”Judgin’ from a lot o’ the Pokemon y’all have got with ya already, I’ve no doubts yer already well on yer way to bein’ an exceptional trainer, Tay.” Her eyes darted back over towards the multitude of Pokemon in the pair’s company, noting especially the strange-looking Gardevoir and the Galarian Ponyta that stood by them. ”But with becomin’ stronger also comes responsibility, n’ bein’ a great trainer ain’t necessarily measured by how many Pokemon ya have,” she added, ”Excitin’ as it is to be able to catch as many Pokemon as ya can in the moment, at the end of the day ya really gotta think about how ye’ll be able to train n’ take care of ‘em all, y’know? That’s a lotta responsibility to take on all at once, n’ tryin’ to take on too much can drive ya mad when ya realize just how much time n’ effort it’ll take in the long run.” Which reminded Zoey about her own companions that she had been neglecting for a while, Torgeir, Jarl Reidar, even Maja who had yet to even really do any training of her own since they’d arrived in Alola… She planned to remedy that soon enough, however, she hoped that training and taking on gyms in other regions would give her team equal opportunities to grow stronger and show what they were capable of in battle.
Slowly, Zoey’s expression softened as she offered a reassuring smile towards the teen. ”Look, I know it ain’t easy to give Pokemon away, especially when ya caught ‘em fair n’ square and want to keep as many of ‘em as ya can… But bein’ a good trainer also means understandin’ when enough is enough,” she said, glancing momentarily towards Avikna before returning her gaze to Tay, ”B’sides, I’m sure there’s a lotta folks out there who would appreciate the opportunity to train n’ take care of a Pokemon of their own. Maybe someday even they could grow to be great trainers too~”
Piper stayed back a few feet away, watching the exchange between Zoey and these other two trainers they had come across. Her attention drifted momentarily towards Gemini as the Espeon climbed back onto her, the Noivern more than happy to let the Espeon get comfortable for when they’d undoubtedly take off again. Having been focused on following Zoey’s directions to get to Konikoni City, the other airborne Pokemon who had taken notice of their arrival hadn’t caught the dragon’s attention. Gemini, however, had her eyes to the skies from her perch on her companion’s back, the Psychic cat tilting her head as she curiously observed the large winged wolf and the other Noivern above them.”Look alive, it seems we have some company on the way,”she said, giving a light telepathic nudge to her larger companion to direct her attention towards the blue Noivern who was now descending towards them. Piper’s ears perked up at the Espeon’s words, turning her attention towards the other dragon-type approaching. She blinked as she took a moment to take in the other Noivern’s appearance, noting its bluish-green scales coupled with the black and white that highlighted its wings, tail, mane, and other body parts. It reminded her of those odd colored Noibats she’d seen living among her roost so long ago… she wondered if perhaps this Noivern had been born with those special colors as well.

☆ ☆【With Zoey chipping in her agreement with Avikna’s advice and offering a bit of sage words herself, it seemed Tay was starting to understand why what she had to do had to be done. Naturally she was still quite sour about it as the pout never left her face as she retrieved the Pokeballs for all of the Pokemon she had recently caught, bending down towards the smaller ones as she said she really didn’t want to release any of them. Zoey watched quietly, a sympathetic look weighing heavily on her face. It would be a tough decision to make for sure… but it was a necessary one, for better or for worse. It would be better for the girl to learn to make these kinds of hard choices sooner rather than later, and while Zoey certainly wasn’t Tay’s guardian or anything even close to that somehow she felt that Avikna would agree with that sentiment as well. The mature looking woman certainly looked well-traveled and learned from what Zoey had observed of her thus far, in a way she saw something of herself in the other. She vaguely wondered what all Avikna had seen and experienced during her own journey, but that could perhaps wait for another time. She had only met these two just five minutes ago, if even that.
The Oranguru stepped in, placing a comforting hand on the teen’s back and suggesting that being captured by her had been only a single step in finding who she was destined to be with. It didn’t seem like the other Pokemon exactly agreed with that, but Tay seemed to understand what the sagely monkey was getting at. Zoey looked over as one of the other Pokemon in particular began steadily approaching her, what looked to be a jade-furred fox or wolf with scales decorating its ears, some sort of decorative ornament hanging around its neck, and a fan that may or may not actually be its tail. Such an odd looking Pokemon… she wondered if it might be another one of those Galarian species that she’d been seeing a lot of lately. As the dragon-fox padded closer and closer to her, a warm, heady scent filled her nose, floral and seemingly all too familiar… ”Lilacs…?” she briefly wondered, bending down a little to be more on its level as she carefully held a hand out to it as to not scare it off. The Pokemon tilted its head slightly as it seemed to be sizing her up, ears perked forward as it curiously sniffed the air around her. Then, with its fan-like tail flapping up and down, it leaned in and gently pressed its muzzle to her palm in a gesture of acceptance.”I can feel that you are quite experienced indeed, yet there is still so much for you to learn if you wish to open your mind to new opportunities,”spoke a soft male voice in her mind, warm and soothing yet sagely and wise,”I would be pleased to have the opportunity to accompany you on your journey, Zoey, if you would have me that is.”
The way this Pokemon spoke, from the warm richness in its voice to how it weaved its words together… It reminded Zoey a lot of someone she knew so long ago, having grown up alongside quite a few people who held a wealth of worldly knowledge and plenty of stories to share. ”Well I don’t see why not,” she agreed with a warm smile, the Ryuushu seeming quite pleased with that answer as he dipped his head with a small toothy smile of his own, moving to take a stand by her side. Straightening herself, Zoey looked back to Tay as the teen handed over the Pokeballs for the Ryuushu and the other Pokemon she was releasing from her team, a saddened look in her eyes as she asked the woman to promise she would take good care of them. ”Of course, kiddo, cross my heart n’ hope to die,” Zoey reciprocated with a reassuring smile, accepting the Pokeballs from the younger girl and placing them upon her belt, ”I’ll do my best to find good homes for these guys, n’ give ‘em only to trainers of especially good character.” Still, even as she secured the new Pokeballs, it didn’t feel quite right for the woman to just leave it at just that as she looked back to the sulking teen.
Bending down a little so she was a bit more even with Tay’s level, the warm smile never left Zoey’s face as she looked up at the teen. ”Hey, I know it ain’t easy havin’ to make these kinds of tough decisions, everyone experiences how it feels to be torn between choosin’ what would be best for themselves or someone else at least once in their lifetime,” she spoke gently, her eyes glancing over briefly to Avikna for a moment, ”But bein’ able to make those sorts of choices and deal with whatever comes of them is considered a sign of maturity n’ responsibility. I’ve no doubt ye’ll grow to be both an exceptional young lady n’ an amazin’ trainer, Tay. And remember that ye’ll have people to support ya n’ help keep ya on the right track, that’s what Avikna does for ya, yeah?” She certainly wouldn’t say she was particularly good at giving advice and encouragement, but she hoped the point of her message and the overall sentiment came across well enough.
Piper’s eyes stayed trained on the incoming blue Noivern as the other dragon landed close by and approached, seating itself as she addressed it. The other Noivern, who was clearly female as she responded in kind, casually dismissed Piper’s apology for failing to notice her presence earlier, saying she had been quite high up in the sky at the time.”W-Well it’s v-very nice to m-meet you, N-Nijrn,”Piper tittered, offering a meek smile and a nod as the blue Noivern introduced herself. She tilted her head curiously as Nijrn shared her sentiments with not having seen another one of their kind in such a long time. While she hadn’t exactly thought about looking around for any roosts that wild Noivern might have established here in the region, surely she would’ve noticed if there were any to found. As far as she knew, however, it didn’t look like Noibat or Noivern were even native to Alola, and even if they were they likely weren’t as plentiful here as they were in Kalos. Piper’s gaze flitted over towards the pair conversing with Zoey, figuring that either one or maybe both of them were Nijrn’s trainers. They seemed like pretty nice folks from what she gleaned from bits and pieces of their conversation, though the older red-haired woman was a bit scary…”Are y-you and your t-trainers here f-for the island ch-challenge too?”she inquired, turning her attention back to Nijrn as she tried to make small talk,”W-What do you th-think of Alola s-so far? Despite the sagely advice of the Oranguru, Tay was still unsure of what to do. Gazing upward, for a moment Tay saw on of the Ryuushu she'd captured venture towards Zoey seemingly interested in the older woman, when she replied to it, it made it quite clear who it choose. After all, it'd only joined Tay for the time being as it didn't want to stay in the Pokemon Center any longer than it had. A momentary glance to Avikna, then back to Zoey and Tay pulled out the Pokeballs for all the Pokemon she'd recently captured, save for Astrope who still stood behind her. If Avikna held no objection to it... then she shouldn't either. She trusted Avikna, however naive that made her. Once the balls were in Zoey's possession, Tay shrunk back, reaching into hold onto Astrope, who willingly obliged the young girl.
With some more parting words of advice, Avikna nodded at Zoey's words. Tay looked across to Avikna golden eyes filling with curiosity as her sorrow washed away for the moment. "I... I think I get it..." She voiced. The more she thought about the Pokemon Avikna had out, specifically the more the teen could put two and two together. Avikna trained Dragons, a single solitary type.... so learning about training one type made it easier to train your whole team all together. Tay in particular wasn't sure about what type she'd like to train, but as she thought over her team she quickly realized she had a theme. With this thought in mind the teen found her smile once more. Wayward as it was she looked back up to Zoey. "I'll think real hard from now on... about what kind of Trainer I want to be." Turning her gaze to Avikna Tay motioned towards the mountain. "Can we go train now? I promise only to catch a Pokemon I really, really, really want to train."
A bit of tension left Avikna's shoulders seeing Tay recovering steadily from her first real heartbreak. Nodding to Tay's question, she moved her gaze back to Zoey. While Tay quickly rushed off to join Yumin, who was dealing with a pesky Solosis, Avikna took a few steps closer to Zoey. "Thanks. I don't think she'd of listened to me without your help." A tough thing for Avikna to say, but she did mean it. "If we meet again, I'd like to battle you." Stepping forward, Avikna reached out a hand offering it for a shake. Honestly she wanted to spare with the woman at this moment, but now didn't entirely seem the proper time or place to do such a thing. If this woman was taking on the Island trails, they'd eventually run into one another again regardless.
Over between the two Noiverns, Avikna's Noivern found her head tilting as Zoey's spoke. It seemed this one had some issue with her speech... or was it nerves? There was a grin fighting it's way onto Nijrn's lips, having a strong urge to attempt to startle the other Noivern was nagging at her mind. "Nice to meet you too, s-" As she was about to make fun of the Noivern by calling her a 'scardy bat', Mave sent a mental glare, which Nijrn picked up. Yea, perhaps now wasn't the best time to play upon her devious notions. There was always Ule'tra to pester later anyway. "Well, The little one is fighting those 'totem' Pokemon, while my trainer, Avikna, is taking on the humans." Nijrn replied. "I like it here. It's a ton warmer than where I came from." Nirjn replied, though memories of her home were fleeting, she remembered always being cold even with several brothers and sisters clumped in close. She didn't quite understand what Piper was talking about when it came to navigating the island, thought to fair they'd pretty much walked their entire time here. "Eh, the humans prefer to travel by foot... and even then I'm not really Avikna's choice of transportation." Nirjn motioned towards the sky, where a fairly decent dark-red blur with dark gray wings could be picked out easily from the clear blue sky circling over the group. "Mave is one of the transporters." ☆ ☆【In spite of the advice from both herself, Avikna, and even the Oranguru, Zoey could see the teen was still hesitant to follow through with it. Even so, the strange fox-dragon looking Pokemon that had approached Zoey seemed quite interested in the possibility of accompanying her, sensing that she was quite experienced already but had a lot to learn if she was willing. Of course if he really was interested in joining her, she certainly wasn’t to say no to an offer like that. Eventually, Tay half-heartedly handed over the Pokeballs, sparing a glance towards the older redhead accompanying her. If Avikna had any objections to the exchange, then she made no move to speak or otherwise intervene as Zoey accepted the proferred Pokeballs from the teen. Taking a moment to return the Oranguru and Abra whom two of the balls belonged to, leaving out only the Ryuushu for the time being, the tall redhead turned back towards Tay as the girl withdrew, holding onto her Galarian Ponyta like a child reaching out for their plush toy as a source of comfort.
Not wanting to leave it at just that, Zoey smiled and gave a few more reassuring bits of advice to the teen to help comfort and assure her. Her gaze drifted once more to Avikna momentarily as the woman nodded in agreement, Tay’s sadness slowly becoming replaced with curiosity as she looked towards her mentor as well. Zoey’s smile brightened as the teen said she thought she understood now, asserting that she’d think really hard about what kind of trainer she wanted to be. ”That’s the spirit,” she remarked in affirmation, nodding in wholehearted agreement, ”I think ye’ll get on just fine, kiddo. Zoey watched after the teen with a soft chuckle, turning her attention back to the other woman as she stepped closer and thanked her for her help. ”Hey, it’s no problem at all. Even though their first meeting would only be brief, just from first impressions so far the pair were certainly the kinds of people Zoey wouldn’t mind getting to know better sometime. Avikna especially, there was something about the woman, her demeanor, the way she spoke, and how she carried herself that sort of resonated with the older redhead in a way that felt a bit different from a lot of the folks she’d met so far that were much younger than her. Since these two seemed like they would be staying around in Alola for a while doing the island challenge, it was highly likely they would meet again somewhere down the line. Piper could’ve sworn she’d seen Nijrn look at her funny for a moment, the blue Noivern saying it was nice to meet her too and would’ve said more until she cut herself off midsentence. Curious as she was to what that had been about, she decided not to push it. Probably for the better if she’d known the other would’ve tried to make fun of her. Gemini, however, was a bit more privy to what her Noivern companion hadn’t picked up on through her passive telepathy. While the Maveretta up above had already well deterred her teammate from going through with her devious plot ,the Espeon tossed a brief warning glare of her own towards the blue Noivern from over Piper’s shoulder just for good measure. At her inquiries about Nijrn’s trainers and Alola in general, Piper glanced back over towards the pair of trainers over by Zoey as the blue Noivern said the smaller one was fighting the Totems while Avikna was taking on the people.”I s-see… I h-haven’t fought one of th-those Totem Pokemon yet, b-but the t-trial captain in the j-jungle we just c-came from w-was pretty ch-challenging on h-her own to fight. Y-Your trainer l-looks pretty strong, though… a l-little scary too…”she said, her voice quieting considerably as she spoke the last part though Nijrn could surely hear her well enough regardless. She listened intently as Nijrn said she liked it here since it was a lot warmer than where she’d come from, briefly wondering where the blue Noivern’s old roost used to be or if she remembered it at all.
”The w-warmer weather is d-definitely quite nice,”Piper warbled softly in agreement, it seemed almost a shame for them to be leaving it behind for a while. Still, she was as curious as Zoey was to see what other regions had to offer, not having really done a lot of exploring herself aside from where’d she’d been in Hoenn, Kalos, and here in Alola. Nijrn seemed somewhat confused by her comment about it being hard to navigate, saying that her humans preferred to walk most of the time and even when flying she wasn’t Avikna’s first choice for transportation. Piper turned her eyes to the skies as the other motioned upwards, seeing the dark red shape circling some distance overhead, Mave according to Nijrn was her name.”Oh? W-Well I’m k-kind of the d-designated flyer on m-my team, f-for now at least… So b-being able to f-find my way a-around is a b-bit of a bigger deal, b-but Zoey’s been v-very helpful w-with helping me know wh-where to go,”she said, fiddling with her claws a little.
Her ears twitched a bit, having been picking up on bits and pieces of conversation between Zoey and Nijrn’s trainers. Glancing back over briefly, she noted that their trainers appeared to be ready to part ways now.”Ah, t-time to go already?”Piper inquired, a bit disappointed that she couldn’t stay to talk longer but understood they had places to be,”W-Well, it’s l-likely we’ll be able to s-see each other again s-sometime… M-Maybe then w-we can talk more… And, um… b-battle, maybe?”Apparently Avikna had expressed interest in wanting to battle Zoey if they met again from what she had picked up in their conversation. While Piper wasn’t entirely sure of how much stronger the other woman’s team might be compared to theirs, the idea of battling against another trainer who was also quite capable was an interesting one to entertain nonetheless.】☆ ☆
