Looking at Gauntlets

Shura was doing it again and she knew full well. She was back at the marketplace, back at the weapon dealer, looking over the various gautlets that they had for sale there. She wanted to get herself a pair of them but they really were pricey. It was probably the fact that the leather they were made from was dyed a nice red color and they had engraving on the metal pieces of them. They felt a lot more pricey now that she was spending a good amount of her spending money on Anhalo. The little pup needed a lot in the way food, water, toys, treats, and the various gear that she got him to wear. Just recently she'd gotten him the cutest harness and leash made of dark black leather so that he would be able to walk with her! While she didn't mind carrying him around everywhere while he was little she knew that he was going to grow into a good sized beast and she refused to carry him when he was full grown. There was so much that she wanted to do to spoil him but carrying him around forever wasn't one of those things. At the same time she knew that spoiling Anhalo meant less money for other things she wanted. It was just hard to say no when it came to getting him things. The only thing that made it easier was that if she really wanted something she could just ask her father for it.

The problem with that being that she didn't know if he would actually buy her a weapon just yet. She knew that she was still young, that she hadn't gotten any formal training, and that learning to do more then just brawling in the street meant getting a teacher. What if she got a teacher and that teacher didn't like her? What if the teacher thought her method of fighting wasn't good enough and she had to learn it all again from scratch? It was a tough thing to even think about because she wasn't exactly a fan of being told that she was wrong about things. Still, if it meant getting better at fighting and therefore better at protecting Dovian then it was something that she would force herself to do, right? She wanted to keep her sweet brother safe from... well, anything and everything. Even if that meant having to relearn every bit of fighting all over again from scratch then that was what she would do. For him.

Dovian was far too nice for his own good, to the point that he was a bit too easy for people to walk all over. She couldn't allow people to continue to do such a thing though meaning that she'd need to get stronger! She'd make sure to get so strong that she could punch all those people until they realized leaving him alone was safest thing for them. In Shura's mind Dovian should be allowed to do whatever it was that he decided that he wanted to do! She'd make sure that he could do whatever it was that he decided he wanted to do no matter what it was and without hassle. Heck, if Dovian decided that he wanted to become a... a... dancer she'd be fine with even that! She didn't really care what it was that he decided that he wanted to do because he would still be her beloved brother! So long as he was happy that was all that mattered in her mind.

Thinking on it she supposed that she'd rather that he didn't take up Tristitia's way of life... Having Dovian sleeping in alleyways and looking all scrawny was definitely one thing that she wouldn't allow him to do. Other then being a alley dwelling vagrant she'd allow Dovian to do whatever made him happy while punching those that would make him unhappy! It was just her job as the stronger of the two of them she thought to herself before giving a bit of a yawn, "Alright, Anhalo. The gauntlets I like are still here so that means I still have a chance to save up for them." Provided the little 'water kitty' didn't need anything else between now and then that was.

She'd see about saving up for those later. Right now she should probably see about going home, sitting down with her parents, and telling them what it was that she wanted to do. It wasn't as though it would come as all that much of a surprise though. She'd been getting into scuffles since she was just a little girl when it came to Dovian, it only made sense that she'd take this sort of path. To be far though it wasn't just Dovian that she was thinking about. At the same time she knew that she had to pick a job path that she would enjoy... and what was better then punching people as a career path? Giving a bit of a grin at the thought she gave a little tug on Anhalo's leash to get his attention, "Hey, Anhalo! Come on, buddy. We don't want you to get all tangled up in people's legs." The creature gave a little squeaking sound before shuffling over to stand at her side, walking along right there. It had taken a bit in the way of training on her part, as well as a lot of treats, but she'd taught him various tricks with the most important one being to 'heel'. She didn't want him to upset people by getting underfoot after all. The training would be good for him... just as training with a fighting teacher would be good for her.

So it was time to head back and get to talking to her parents about just that.

Growth Solo: Planning for the Future

(( Shura goes out for a run and finds herself debating on the future and what she wants to do with her desire to fight and protect. The protection of her brother is the most important thing in her mind but she finds herself actually considering others that she might bring under her wings as well. The idea of protecting someone other then Dovian is a strange concept to her but one she is starting to accept along with the idea that she will need more training so she can be a real guardian to Dovian instead of just a street brawler. ))

After the last work out she'd had with her brother Shura had decided to slip out with just Anhalo to get a second one in. The first one had been a bust and she really didn't want to tell her brother as much since he had been trying.... and it had been her fault that he wasn't able to continue on with the rest of the work out. Well, her fault and that of the girls of the village that seemed to have a singular desire to make his life hell. She would never understand it. She'd met guys in her time, those her own age in fact like Tristitia and you didn't see her acting a fool over him! Of course he wasn't exactly what one would think up when they thought of a 'perfect man' but still, it was aggravating. It wasn't like she didn't like guys, she could pick out the ones that she thought were handsome, but why would someone go chasing after them in a brainless gaggle, chirping away like a bunch of female xaraan or something.

She'd have to ask her mom about it. Surely she hadn't acted in that manner when dealing with dad, right? If anything it seemed as though it was the other way around, with her dad fawning over mom as well as fawning over her mom's cooking. She had to wonder if her mother had used food to catch him as one did when they were out fishing. She also wondered if she should learn the skill so she could catch a man someday. Of course if she learned to cook she'd feel obligated to feed Tri when she saw him since the man was so pathetic. He was probably one of few that she might want to protect that wasn't in her family.

What about others though? Were there others at the moment that she'd want to protect? Maybe other random guys that were being hassled by girls and couldn't do anything about it due to honor and what not. She supposed that she could hire herself out as a bodyguard to guys that had girl problems and make some money that way she thought to herself, a bit of a grin on her face as she reached her destination and started her lap around Awat that had been interrupted by that idiot girl. She knew that her lap wouldn't have been all that good as it was, she'd had to take it easy for Dovian, but it still would have been something were it not for the interruption.

As she went she found herself starting to get close to where the altercation of sorts had happened she found herself wondering if that fool girl was still where she'd collapsed earlier. Shura was pretty certain that it had all been an act, something she hoped would help her to win Dovian over. Given he'd gotten punched in the girl's stead though so it hadn't worked out for her. If she was still there Shura meant to jump her like one would any hurdle she thought to herself crossly. Of course as she got to the point where the girl had so dramatically 'fainted' she was no where to be seen. Likely after Shura and Dovian went on their way the girl had probably scrapped herself up and went on her way. The plan to win Dovian over had failed so why stay laying in the street? She supposed that it was a good way to keep Shura's attention and fists from turning back toward her that was.

What should she do next? Probably continue with Dovian's training but in a manner that was different from today. They would go running earlier in the day, to give them a better chance to avoid the ones that would otherwise bother them. It would also allow them to avoid Dovian being overly stuffed with breakfast which would only end poorly if they did a lot in the way of running. She might have to sit down and plan a routine for Dovian that would better suit him, something that wouldn't stress him out or risk making him sick. He couldn't keep up with what Shura did so she would see about figuring out how he could do what was better for him at this stage in his training. She wondered if he really meant to become a fighter though. She couldn't really picture it, he was just too nice... though she supposed that he could take a punch with the best of them.

In showing that it showed Shura that she was at least wrong about some aspects of Dovian, he was stronger then she'd first imagined. She would rather have figured it out another way though instead of accidentally punching him herself. There had to be better ways to figuring things out then that... but she supposed that what was done was done. She'd take the lesson that she'd been offered from that moment to heart. Dovian had told her that she needed to learn to pull her punches, something she didn't really approve of but felt that she should at least consider. It wasn't as though she could go around punching all of her problems after all. There would be times that she'd need to consider other ways of dealing with things. It might take some doing since she was a bit on the hotheaded side, but she would figure it out.

Shura moved a hand to rest it against one of the pouches she wore at her waist. It held the gloves that her brother had gotten for her. They were the exact pair she'd wanted, even had the pretty engravings on them, which was that much more motivation when it came to her learning to fight. He'd gotten her a grand gift and she'd put them to use protecting Dovian... and perhaps a few others that she hand picked, Tristitia likely being among them since it was obvious the boy couldn't take care of himself. One day perhaps she'd think of a girl that she wanted offer aid to, Aari, perhaps? She'd been interesting enough after all.

Now that she had the gloves she felt that she was really ready to go to her father and request a teacher as well. Brawling in the way that she did was all well and good but she could do better, could learn more, and be a better protector for those that needed her fists and her skills. There was so much that she could do once she was strong enough and able to control herself, though training herself would take time. Until then she'd just do what she always did as far as fighting went, she'd lead with her fists and keep people safe.

She'd have to see about finishing her run and then she'd seek out her dad, after that she'd check on Dovian, and finally check in with her mom as well about possible cooking lessons. There was much that she wanted to get accomplished today, but meeting with her father was what she'd do first and foremost.
