Naomi made sure to thank Cassidy for the battle, bowing to the woman to show his gratitude, but, in an awkward turn of event, found that they were both going in the same direction. "There's a... Pokemon Center close by," Cassidy explained, bemused. "Oh!" Naomi nodded his head. "I had not realized this. But, it is well placed," he commented, more to himself than Cassidy, though the woman nodded her head nonetheless. True to her word the two eventually came upon a Pokecenter, and Naomi, aware that his team could benefit from a proper healing and quick check-up before the battle ahead, followed Cassidy inside.
While waiting his turn in line Naomi checked his communicator for emails, a good way to pass the time, and was quick to break into a smile when he saw that Dallas had responded. He read it over eagerly, his grin growing ever wider as he did, if that was possible. Dallas was making friends! That was great news, and though minuscule it nearly overshadowed the news he'd given him. His body nearly vibrating with a mixture of pride and excitement, Naomi put his communicator away, Dallas' message to be responded to at a later date, with a faint idea of asking for all three of them to meet starting to formulate. Of course, before he could do that he'd have to defeat Lana, and he needed to have his team, primarily Jingū, in tip-top shape. Fortunately, it wasn't long before Nurse Joy was tending to the teen's pokemon, and upon being given the A-okay he left the Center for Brooklet Hill.

Beasts from another dimension, now that was a new one. As they strolled through Route 5, on their way to Route 6, Naomi reflected on the information Lana had given him regarding the dimensional shards. He'd never even heard of such an item until just now, and... other dimensions? There was more than one? Mm. Well, maybe the latter made sense, he'd been exposed to enough sci-fi books and movies to be aware of such a possibility. But, he'd never thought it was actually true, science fiction was... science fiction, it wasn't supposed to be possible. Though, considering a pokemon had created the entire world, creatures that existed in another dimension wasn't so far-fetched.

Settling on the idea that other dimensions did exist, what kind of beasts lived in them? How many? And how did collecting these 'shards' bring them into this dimension? Curious now, Naomi turned his knapsack backwards to gain access into it, and from its confines he drew forth both his dimensional shards. Without a thought, he pressed them together, and did his best to match the edges together as best he could; like a puzzle. Was it like a mirror? If he collected enough would they create a sort of... mirror? One large enough to allow one, or even several, of these beasts through? He hummed thoughtfully. The shards were rather large, so it wouldn't take too many to create a shape.

With a sigh, Naomi reluctantly returned the shards and turned his knapsack back around. All of this was... not even speculation, but guesswork at this point, none of his questions had an answer to them, and he definitely wasn't going to get anywhere on his own. So, the next step, was to do a bit of research, a library would be preferable but an internet search would do just as well. If he could find someone who was an expert on other dimensions, or just knew a little more information than him, would definitely help, but he didn't know anyone like that. He'd have to find the time, and a library, to sit down and delve into a bit of in-depth research. But, before he could do that, he needed to concentrate on his trials. Or... maybe he'd just focus on this next trial, then take a break from them. After all, he couldn't spend all of his time in Alola pursuing the island challenge, and this was just too exciting not to look into!

Thick bundles of trees and tall grass growing here and there, winding forked paths that all seemed to lead to the same general area made up the majority of their immediate surveillance… But beyond the forested parts of the route were notably taller cliffside paths that lay to the slightly distant north from where they stood. Those they couldn’t simply climb up to, apparently the only way to get to those paths was from a completely different route further up north from here. ”There’s a Pokemon Center up the path from here just before goin’ into Brooklet Hill, might wanna stop there before we proceed to the trial grounds,” Zoey suggested, figuring that a quick pit stop would be best to make sure they would be one-hundred percent prepared for the fight ahead. Orpheus nodded in agreement as he took in the sights and smells of the new area, as well as noting the general layout.”Proceeding with caution is hardly a bad idea,”he chimed in, gesturing around the area,”This place is certainly quite interesting… Where do those cliff paths lead to?”They appeared pretty inaccessible from here from the looks of it, though he noticed a thin path that seemed to smoothly lead up the hills and further off to the north. One of those shortcuts Zoey had mentioned before, maybe?
”Well, to be fair we can access two trial grounds from here. One is Brooklet Hill, where we’re headin’ to right now, and the other is the Lush Jungle where Captain Mallow’s trial is,” she explained, grimacing a little at the mention of the jungle in particular, ”Lemme tell ya, we definitely ain’t goin’ there until we’ve beaten the other two trials and trained up much more. Mallow’s trial is by far the toughest one we’ll face here on Akala, she and Lush Jungle’s Totem Pokemon would definitely wipe the floor with us if we tried to take on it now. And believe me, I ain’t that foolhardy to fight a battle I know I can’t win.” Orpheus chuckled softly, that certainly sounded sensible enough to him.”Of course, Fraulein~ I suppose we shall cross that bridge when we eventually get there,”he agreed, staying close by her as they pressed on through the tall grass before them,”Let us focus on our current goal for now. And perhaps think of plans for when we will head out for the next trial afterwards, ja?”He believed Zoey had mentioned something about a volcano park being their next trial destination, now that he would be quite interested in seeing. She hummed and nodded in agreement, grabbing Storm’s Pokeball off of her belt. ”Yeah, I’ll definitely have to start trainin’ up Freya sometime soon. The next captain after Lana is Kiawe, he’s the Fire-type specialist and havin’ a strong Water-type would definitely be helpful,” she explained, tossing the ball and calling out the Zeraora, ”Right, ya ready to do some more trainin’, Storm? Both ye n’ Viola will be our aces against Lana and her Water-types.” And maybe to a lesser extent Kiawe, at least in the Electric-type’s case since Viola would hardly stand a chance against all those flaming Pokemon.

From what he could tell, Viola seemed to be more of the caring, kindly type who tried to see good in everyone she met, which was hardly unwelcome as far as he was concerned.

Thankfully, Storm was more than happy to tag in, downing the Pikipek with a powerful Thunder attack and sustaining little damage in return. The Alolan Diglett that lunged out at them next was definitely more up Viola’s alley, an Aqua Tail laying the tiny mole-like Pokemon low with a single blow.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【Zoey smiled as she watched Storm and Viola take down a pair of wild Pokemon, each one covering for the other’s weakness in kind against their opponents. Seemed the Zeraora had made a new friend in the Serperior, certainly nice to see that he was branching out a bit more since he often stuck to Lukas and Jarl Reidar like Velcro. ”Heh, good to see the both of ya gettin’ on well so far,” she said with a grin as she treated both of them with potions, ”That kinda synergy yer pullin’ off is definitely more of what this team needs~” The way they had flawlessly covered for each other against the wild Pokemon had worked amazingly well, hopefully that same kind of coordination would come quite in handy against Lana and the Brooklet Hill Totem Pokemon. If only certain other Pokemon on her team worked quite as well alongside each other… Gar was quite the handful and hardly easy for anyone to really work with, not to mention that he was impulsive and not always willing to follow along unless it was on his own terms. Maja, on the other hand, wasn’t quite battle ready yet. She still had a bit of a ways to go, but she was gradually getting stronger even if it was a little slow going. Still, Zoey hoped that there wouldn’t come a time where she’d absolutely need to use Maja in battle and she wasn’t quite ready for it, but hopefully by then the Danshen would be more or less prepared. Maybe even evolved by then… if her kind even did so, that is… She’d make a note to do some more research on those particular Pokemon at some point to at least get a better grasp of their species and evolutions in general. Maybe the Malie Library had some such material she could briefly borrow and leaf through, though that was definitely a ways away from now. But anyways, they’d get there when they’d get there, she should focus on training for now.

Lukas… Viola could only assume that was the Torracat’s name, which was certainly good to know for the future given that she hardly knew anything about him otherwise.”Well, it’ssss certainly nice to sssssee you’re quickly making friendssss given that you’re sssstill relatively new to the team,”she offered supportively with a gentle smile,”Well, you and that Noivern I happened to ssssee that hassss recently joined ussss… Sssshe sssseemssss like a bit of a sssshy girl, might need ssssome time and nurturing to help her come out of her sssshell a bit more but I’m certain sssshe could usssse a friend or two~”Now that she mentioned it, Storm had recalled seeing the Noivern that had definitely not been with them until recently. She seemed to keep more to herself from what he had observed, and appeared to be almost constantly uncertain of her surroundings.... It certainly didn't seem like a horrible idea to at least try to get to know her better, Arceus knows she could use a familiar friendly face among a team full of otherwise odd strangers. Just as he opened his mouth to respond, he was unceremoniously surprised by a Caterpie suddenly dropping out of a tree nearby and landing right on top of him. Irritated, the little caterpillar delivered a vicious bite before the Zeraora could shake it off, clacking its mandibles angrily as it faced him down. Viola immediately recoiled at the presence of the Bug-type, a rather strong one too as it had dealt quite a bit of damage even to Storm.”Don’t worry, I got it!”he declared, taking advantage of the Caterpie being aggro’d on him to hit back with an equally vicious Bounce strike. However, it seemed this bug was quite a bit tougher than anticipated as it snapped at Storm again before he finally finished it with a Thunder attack. Thankfully he had just enough time to get healed up by Zoey before yet another Bug-type came barreling out at them from the brush, a Grubbin this time. Just as tough as the Caterpie had been, Storm was able to dispatch it with a couple of Thunders. He hadn’t expected the Pokemon out here to be quite that strong, but it certainly made for a much more challenging fight and more experience gained which was certainly a plus.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【Zoey hummed softly as she sprayed Storm down once more with potions until the Zeraora was back to full health. ”Seems some of the ‘mons out here are a bit stronger than I thought,” she commented aloud to no one in particular, though Storm nodded in agreement, ”Still, at least it’ll make for good trainin’, yeah?” After all, stronger Pokemon meant more experience, which would certainly help shorten how long they’d have to be out here training before they’d be adequately strong enough to take on Lana. ”Although, maybe it’s ‘bout time we actually start makin’ more headway towards the trial grounds, Brooklet Hill shouldn’t be that much further up from here, I’m sure,” the woman added, glancing up the path ahead of them in contemplation. She wasn’t sure how much stronger or weaker the Pokemon in Brooklet Hill might be compared to out here, but she could potentially use the opportunity to train up Freya as well in preparation for Kiawe’s trial since she’d be their main counter for his Fire-types as well as for taking on stronger Pokemon that they might encounter on the way to the Volcano Park. Better now than never, right?
Viola smiled warmly as she reconvened with Storm, nodding gratefully towards him.”Thankssss for the ssssupport back there, fighting Bug-typessss in particular issss hardly the mosssst ideal ssssituation for me. Esssspecially if they’re a fair bit sssstronger assss well,”she said kindly, as much as she would’ve liked the extra experience as well it was hardly worth the risk going up against Pokemon that could easily outmatch her. Considering that even Storm had some difficulty fighting those Bug-types, she knew for certain that she wouldn’t have fared any better.”Really, it’s the least I can do for such a gracious lady like yourself, Viola, so it’s no problem at all~”the Zeraora gladly reciprocated, chuckling softly as the Serperior demurely tried to cover up the light pink blush tinting her face with her leafy tail at his compliment. She was admittedly somewhat surprised that he would return the same statement she had more or less said to him not that long ago, though she did appreciate the sentiment of it very much!”You are much too kind, Sssstorm~ Now, sssshall we get back to our training?”she suggested, about to head back into the tall grass once again but paused when she heard someone calling out and turned to see a couple of women approaching them.
Zoey turned her attention upon hearing the call of ‘Alola!’, tilting her head curiously upon noticing a pair of women coming over as they moved their hands in the traditional greeting. They were dressed very much like tourists from the looks of it, though she didn’t really recognize the particular style of their clothes. ”Alola, ladies~ What can I do ya for?” she asked with a bright grin, mimicking the same hand motion in return.”Ah, well my friend and I came here on vacation from Kalos, and we couldn’t help noticing that beautiful charm you have on your bag there!”one of the women, a tall, thin girl with long black hair and sunglasses covering her eyes chirped in a strange accent, gesturing towards the island challenge amulet hanging from the strap of Zoey’s bag,”We’ve come across quite a few other trainers with those same charms as well, are you also taking the island challenge?”Ah… Kalos, that would certainly explain the odd accent, and possibly why Zoey couldn’t recognize their particular fashion style since that was one of the few regions she wasn’t at all familiar with. Granted, she did temporarily visit there for the Spookival festival, but that was far from enough exposure to gain much knowledge about the region as a whole. ”Yeah, I’m actually trainin’ up for the second island trial over in Brooklet Hill,” she responded politely with a warm smile, jerking her thumb towards the path further up, ”Why d’ya ask?” The two women seemed to brighten up in curiosity upon hearing that she was preparing for the next trial, and wasted no time asking if they could battle her.”We’ve had the opportunity to battle a some other island trialgoers, quite a few of them had very strong and interesting Pokemon,”the other woman chipped in, smiling brightly as she pulled out a Pokeball from her bag,”Your Pokemon seem especially strong as well! It would be an honor if you would battle us, mademoiselle~”
Zoey was a bit surprised at the offer to battle, but she certainly wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to get in more training. ”Sure, will warn ya that I won’t go easy, so ya best bring yer best~” she advised lightly with a nod, gesturing for Storm and Viola to get into battle positions as the first of the two women sent out an Ekans as her first Pokemon. Knowing Poison-types weren’t a good matchup for the Serperior either, Storm was more than glad to step in as he easily downed the lady’s Pokemon with a series of Thunders. Thankfully, the other woman’s Rock-types were much more ideal in comparison, which Viola easily and gracefully swept through with Aqua Tail.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【The battles against the pair of tourists had been almost too easy, given how Storm and Viola were easily able to beat them just by repeatedly using the same moves over and over again. Zoey felt a little bad about how very one-sided the battles ended up being, though the ladies, who had introduced themselves as Diane and Helene, hardly seemed to mind as they smiled brightly at her.”My oh my! You certainly have some admirable Pokemon, mademoiselle~”Helene chirped with a nod of approval as she returned her fainted Alolan Geodude,”Then again, I suppose it was to be expected since you are also a trialgoer. Bit of a shame that I couldn’t exactly test out the battle capabilities of this new Geodude variant I had recently caught as I had hoped, but oh well, c’est la vie~”The dark haired woman hummed curiously, eyeing Eir in fascination as she took in the appearance of the Alolan Ninetales.”I will say that seeing different variations of Pokemon like Rattata in this region is certainly quite intriguing! I certainly would love to see what else Alola has to offer in terms of all these interesting subspecies,”she added, eyes lighting up with curiosity.
Zoey couldn’t help but chuckle at that, she couldn’t blame her for being interested in Alolan Pokemon, given that this region was the only place in the world where such variations could be found. Of course, by far only variants of Kantonian Pokemon had been found, which was to be expected given that Alola and Kanto were fairly close to each other. Still, Zoey would’ve certainly liked to see how Alolan variants of Hoenn Pokemon would’ve looked. Diane simply smiled and shrugged, nodding towards her.”All that aside, Helene and I should probably find a Pokemon Center. Though being new here and unfamiliar with this island in particular, I don’t suppose you could point us in the direction of one?”she inquired.
”Oh, yeah, there’s one right up this way, actually,” Zoey gladly answered, gesturing towards further up the path from them once again, ”Don’t know if ya’ll have noticed this yet, but trial grounds typically tend to have Pokemon Centers or at least a healer somewhere close by.” It was definitely quite nice to have odd healing spots scattered about here and there, certainly saved a lot of time and trouble of having to go all the way back to a town or city to heal up at the Center there. Helene gave a light laugh as she playfully prodded her friend with an elbow.”Of course~ There was a Center near that other trial area back on Melemele, remember?”she spoke in a gently teasing tone, moving to take her companion’s hand in her own,”Certainly quite convenient to have these services spread out in other areas besides the big cities and towns, oui? Shall we be on our way then, Diane?”Diane was happy to agree, the two of them waving farewell to Zoey before they headed up the path towards the Pokemon Center.”Quite the nice pair they were, ja? Perhaps we should be heading that way ourselves, Fraulein,”Orpheus suggested with a grin as he glanced towards the path ahead,”Though it seems like no one has particularly sustained a lot of damage or any status ailments, should we still stop by the Center before taking on the trial?”
While it was probably a good idea to make at least a quick stop there, if none of her Pokemon were particularly in need of immediate aid then maybe they could skip it and just head right for the grounds... Maybe she’d regret it afterwards, but for now it was looking like they could afford to just keep pushing onwards. ”Nah, I think we’re in pretty good shape to go right into it,” she answered with a shrug, returning Storm and Viola to their Pokeballs so they could rest for a bit before getting into the thick of it, ”We can always just stop by the Center before we move on to the next trial afterwards, so long as we don’t have any faintin' casualties or status problems I think we should be fine for the time bein’.” The Zoroark simply nodded in agreement, if he had any complaints about his trainer’s choice at all he didn’t voice them aloud. He could certainly understand her logic, especially considering that their team was in pretty good shape so far even after all of the training they did and no one had sustained any serious injuries or status ailments.”Certainly, you are the captain here after all, Fraulein~”he chimed in with a warm smile,”Shall we then?”Zoey hummed in approval, gesturing for Eir and Coltrane to follow along as they headed further up the path as well. Sure enough, the familiar red roof of the Pokemon Center came into view, and just beyond it lay the entrance to the trial grounds between the cliffs. Taking a deep breath as she pumped herself up in preparation for this next island trial, Zoey strode confidently down the path with her Pokemon in tow leading into Brooklet Hill.】☆ ☆

It was pretty warm and sunny out anyways, it probably wouldn’t take too long for her shirt to dry out as they kept walking throughout the day.”So, where are we heading now, Fraulein?”Orpheus inquired, glancing sideways towards her as he walked by her side,”What would be the most suitable route to take to the volcano park from here?”The woman wasted no time pulling out her Pokedex, bringing up the map of Akala Island on it as she did so. ”Well, thing is that Wela Volcano Park is a bit more out of the way as opposed to Brooklet Hill and Lush Jungle, which are fairly close to each other,” she said, tapping a finger against the area on the digital map where Route 5 was, ”So, we’ll have to backtrack a bit through here, and go back towards Heahea City along Route 6 right here past where Paniola Ranch is.” She traced along the path as she spoke, highlighting the specific areas they would have to go through on the way there. ”But instead of goin’ all the way back to Heahea, we take a hard right here into this place, Royal Avenue,” Zoey went on, moving her finger to make an imaginary circle around the small city before tracing it along another road leading to the north from it, ”From there, we head onto Route 7 and it’s pretty much a straight shot to the volcano park from there. Ain’t really as straightforward as gettin’ to Brooklet Hill was, but as far as I know it’s the only conceivable way to actually get there. No shortcuts or anythin’ else, y’know?”

It appears to be of some kind of strange, otherworldly make from what I was able to discern, I believe it is called a… dimensional shard?”the Zeraora spoke, furrowing his brow in thought as he gazed intently at the strange jewel.
”Ah yeah, think I remember hearin’ about these. Ya mentioned that Totems drop ‘em, yeah? In that case I should’ve gotten one from Verdant Cavern too,” Zoey affirmed as the pieces began to click into place, opening her bag and rummaging around in it a bit. Sure enough, an almost identical jewel to the one she held in her hand glistened in the faint sunlight that spilled into her bag, though the shape of it was somewhat different from the other one. Almost as if they were pieces of the same kind of puzzle… Strange… she hadn’t recalled picking it up before, unless Gar might have grabbed it and snuck it into her bag after he had felled the Totem Gumshoos. Leaving the Paniola Ranch behind, the girls made quick strides through the arid land until finally seeing the island grow lush once more. They were growing ever closer to the northern part of the island, and closer to Tay's second trial as well as another Badge for Avikna. The red-head walked with her arms crossed, keeping an eye on Tay who was happily acting much like a child would when seeing new things. In truth, Avikna was jealous of Tay. She hadn't had such a great start to her journey.... she hadn't had such a great start to her life in general. This was a good chance to live vicariously through Tay. It did bring a smile to Avikna's lips to see the girl happy and eager to get stronger. Arceus forbid her father come around again and try to use Tay as bait... again.

Thinking more on what role she'd play in Tay's life, the red-head hadn't even noticed how far they'd walked. It wasn't long before a familiar red roofed building appeared over the horizon. "Look, Avikna!" Tay announced. "A Pokemon Center! That means we're getting close!" She continued, pointing at the building from up on a large bolder. Looking up, there indeed sat a Pokemon Center before them. According to her memory of Akala Island that meant Brooklet hill was just a short ways beyond the center. Avikna stepped up beside Tay and nodded. "It certainly does." She replied. "Let's get your Pokemon looked over quickly and grab some lunch then we can move on." Tay bobbed her head in agreement and quickly jumped down from her boulder, rushing forward until she was inside the Pokemon Center. Avikna wasn't far behind.
Just a few moments later and Freya, Elias and Tethe were given a clean bill of heath. Everyone ate some food, and after a moment to let the meal settle, the group set out once more, taking to the west into Brooklet hill.

It was when they left that a foul scent wafted by the team, making both Avikna and Tay curl their noses. "What in the hel-.. What is that?" Avikna demanded resisting every urge she had to reach a hand up and plug her nose. Tay on the other hand didn't seem to care about manners and quickly reached her hands up and cupped her mouth and nose. "It's horrible... let's go back into the Pokemon Center!" Tay insisted. Avikna felt her eyes starting to water. Tay had the right of it. Looks like they'd be reaching Royal Avenue tomorrow... if the scent still persisted in the morning she'd just have to tell Tay to grin and bare it.
Returning into the center, the seemingly airlock doors quickly filtered the scent out and replaced it with a lovely flowery scent of some sort of Hibiscus and coconut mix. Joy noticed the girls quick return and almost seemed to look apologetic. Avikna crossed the center and approached Joy. "We're going to stay the night after all." The red-head spoke. "Oh, Yes. certainly. We've got many open, The rooms are just that way, find an empty one and enjoy your stay." The woman spoke. Avikna gave a nod and quickly lead Tay to an open room.
The scent, gone.... still seemed to linger in the back of the girls' minds. Avikna searched her bag, knowing she had some sort of... perfume or something... a stick of deodorant she could leave open or rub all over her body? That's when she pulled out a box. A long skinny twig-like box with the words 'Incense' written on it. "Perfect." She spoke out loud. Pulling out the stick, she used the tiny stand it had to put up the incense on a nearby dresser, then lit a match to start the incense up. For a moment a soft... almost lilac-y scent wafted from the stick, but then it mellowed and simply smelt like flowers. "Well, it's better than the smell outside." Avikna noted; not really a fan of this smell either.
Not but a moment later when the red-head turned to Tay and instructed they get their wet clothes off and take showers, did the window suddenly open all on it's own. The horrid stench pushed itself into the room, and along with it came a Lunatone, a giant crescent moon-shaped rock just flew right in through the window. "What the hell!" This time she couldn't watch her language, quickly holding up an arm to cover her nose and mouth. "I got this, Avikna!" Tay announced, standing up on her bed. "Yumin use Surf!" She shouted. Before anything could be done to deter the tiny fish from attacking, it flew forward and quickly summoned a wave of water, surprisingly equal to it's size and washed away the Lunatone with little fuss. That dealt with, not they just had to deal with the window being wide open letting in all the stink. It was going to be a long night...
