Unlike last time, when he'd managed to get out of his battle without a single scratch on him, Rags had to wipe angrily at his face to clear the mud from it before blinking several times. The attack hadn't hurt per se, it'd only irritated his eyes, it did serve to both irritate and motivate him, a dangerous combination. Neither down or out, Rags jammed his hands onto his hips firmly before looking around for another one of those face-plated pokemon, he didn't know what other types of pokemon there were out here, but he knew for a fact that those were the type he could get through the fastest, and speed was key!

Rags mumbled to himself, a low verse about plate-faced pokemon and their, literal, dirty tricks, as he wiped another splotch of mud off of his face. What? Couldn't they do anything better? He huffed, wiped his dirty hand onto his side, then proceeded to clean the rest of his face. Once he could see, the eager Scraggy set right back into hunting pokemon and stomped menacingly towards a patch of grass in preparation for his next battle. "Rags! Can you come here for a sec?" Huey's voice rang out suddenly, cutting into Rags' 'tracking mode' and sending him three feet into the air. Huey chuckled sheepishly from where he stood, "sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Rags shook his head, as if to dismiss the very idea that he, the great Rags, could be frightened by anything, let alone a child's call.
Nevertheless, he came forward, and looked up at his trainer curiously. "Why don't we let someone else have a go at finding pokemon?" Huey suggested, as he pulled both a napkin and a potion. The former he used to wipe at the mud caked onto Rags, and afterwards he used a potion to touch up on his wounds. "...Scrag," Rags muttered, clearly displeased at having to share the limelight, before he nodded his head. If he wasn't going to battle, then... maybe he could touch up on his boxing?

It's in October." It didn't... hurt to give a vague answer, right? He guessed.... It was still kinda weird though.
He shifted and fidgeted a bit, healing up Chikorita and looking around for more of those disappearing pokemon. Which.... there were apparently quite a few of. He frowned a bit, but stayed still, looking down. He hadn't really talked to his family much.... not even Drey. But, it hadn't been that long, either, so... ".... How long have you been traveling?" he asked, glancing over at him as it occurred to him. The kid had... a lot of badges, after all. He gave the kid a bit of a look at the question. "... Translator," he replied shortly. Not even he was sure how serious he was, but it was a career he'd considered,and it was what came to mind. Arceus, conversation was awkward sometimes..... He glanced over as Huey switched up his own training, and glanced down at Chikorita. The pokemon still seemed to be doing.... fine. He'd try switching later....

Adder healed up Chikorita, who turned and bounded off, though not without looking curiously to all the pokemon that were showing up to fight Huey's. How weird... They seemed kind of strong, though. The grass type settled himself to the idea of fighting the ones he'd already been combatting against, though, of course, that was precisely when a new one showed. He eyed it warily, but it didn't quite... appear, like the others, and it didn't look as intimidating. At all, in fact. So, with a resigned sigh, Chikorita swiped his head, sending a sharp leaf at the pokemon. A few blows later, it was down, and he went back to get healed, and then continue training.

Adder's mind started quietly working as he talked to Huey, and waited for a response to their "conversation". He was watching Chikorita battle, and the pokemon was doing fine, but it would sure be a lot easier if he had more pokemon training, and if they had a wider range of moves. He frowned some in thought. He actually hadn't been able to spend a lot of time on his pokemon's movesets yet. He'd sort of tried, and he'd known he needed to, but he hadn't actually done it. Maybe once he was able to get Chikorita and Charmander to evolve some, he could try rearranging movesets, or even switching out new pokemon. Huey shrugged his shoulders gently, already of the opinion that he didn't have a satisfactory answer to Adder's question. He had.. just wanted to know, for the sake of knowing; it was another topic of conversation. "So it's close to Halloween! My birthday is June 22nd," he chirped. "Do you have Halloween themed birthday parties?" Was his next question. He had... so many good questions. So many. But, as great as they were, the young blonde decided not to bug the older boy with too many questions and looked for a means of distraction. Rags, going along with the little 'break', was repeatedly punching a tree, some sort of training regiment he imagined. All his other pokemon were still milling around, within the area, either entertaining themselves or trying to find battle without getting in the way of Adder's pokemon.
"Hm?" Huey turned back around to Adder, once addressed, before he hummed and looked off to the side. "..I think I've been traveling for... a year now?" he estimated. Honestly, he was terrible with keeping up with dates and time, but it had been about a year now. "Or, well a little longer than a year." That sounded right, a year and six months maybe. He brightened, eyes widening, and 'oohed' a bit at Adder's career choice. He'd never met anyone who wanted to be a translator. "What other languages do you know?"
While he waited for a response, Huey's communicator vibrated with another text -- one not from Cheri, for once. Cloud chirped in surprise as he read over the message from Riley, and then oohed and aahed at the picture attached to it. He remembered her! And she was in a sparkly place! "Huey! Look at this! You got a text from your friend!" Cloud announced, and waved the communicator around. "My friend?" Huey took the communicator before reading over the message, surprise lighting his face before he frowned gently. Fear and uncertainty battled within his gaze, before he shoved his communicator back at Cloud, a little harder than intended. "Sorry! Are you okay?" The Togepi, stumbling back from the force, quickly corrected himself and smiled. "It's okay~ Do you want me to text her?" he asked, his trainer's discomfort not lost to him, even if he held his, usual, jovial smile. Huey pressed his lips together, then nodded slowly. Cloud cheered happily, gave a spin, then went about texting Riley.

You should definitely try to move a boulder with your tongue, then you will know it's very strong. Just make sure the boulder is not very dirty. I think I will enjoy it very much! Maybe you've done a bunch of dangerous stuff, but you're so brave you don't know they're dangerous. We can make a bunch of pink donuts, and blue donuts, and pink and blue donuts!
Aww, that's too bad~ I promise not to eat them! I will just use them to learn moves, and help others learn new moves. I would love to be your sidekick! I think I make a very good one. You're very lucky to have met such a pokemon, maybe I can meet the giant rock snake too, since your trainer has it now. Oh! Do you think you could use it as a slide? Go down from its head to its tail? That would be fun. Your trainer should do that as training, if he ever loses his other arm.
I will! You will be the first one! It must be cool to have naturally big eyes. Do you have to buy naturally big glasses? Or can you even wear glasses? I think it can! My Huebert's friend just sent him a picture on her communicator, it was very nice. She is wearing a dress in a sparkling place. I hope he wasn't trying to hurt him, hurting others isn't nice. Hurting nice people is especially not nice. I think I will ask Beep, since Hueburt is a bit busy right now.
Being smart is a very good thing, being smart means you know a whole bunch of answers! Maybe you can teach your trainer and make him smart. I bet they are friends! Poor chicken man. Does the girl and her rock snake protect him? I bet the rock snake will make a good teacher. Your trainer sounds like he needs a whole bunch of help, do any of his other pokemon help him not lose his things? Why was he angry? Maybe the rock snake was giving him a hug, but because it has no arms it had to sit on him. Sitting is its way of hugging! I think she is very friendly! I dunno why she has so many heads. Maybe so she can eat faster? I think having a bunch of heads would give a lot of headaches.

Adder frowned, looking uncomfortable, even embarrassed, at Huey's question. He raised his shoulders, dampening his expression to a deadpan to try and hide that. "It's like... almost a year from Halloween...." he muttered, which, honestly, was just a bad joke, but it was something he'd muttered to his brother and so many others every time that point was brought up. He sighed and tried to relax. "It's at the other end of the month," he added more flatly, trying to channel his idea of being an 'adult' and 'professional' about his responses, instead of grumbling like a child. He looked over at Huey, eying him warily. "June 22nd?" he repeated, though didn't comment on that further.
He looked a little uncertain at the answer, but nodded. At least that made his progress a little more understandable. And made Adder feel a little more at ease about his own. It would have been.... really uncomfortable if he'd been outpaced by someone that much younger to him, and had no chance of even catching up in the same amount of time. He ruffled his hair a little, but gave an uncertain look at the question. "U-u-uhh... I'm... working on learning mandarin right now," he replied. As well as some other languages, like Arabic, but he was focused mostly on the Chinese languages. He still had a lot of work to do, though.... He really should get started on that.

If he was to be honest, Huey only sort of understood Adder's joke. But, at the very least, he knew it was a joke, and so he gave a soft giggle before he nodded his head. "That's cool! Do you think you'll go back to see your family for your birthday?" Was that too personal of a question? Maybe he should've been sticking to something more general... While Huey contemplated this, he also nodded his head to Adder's repetition of his birthday. "Mhm~" he hummed absently. Eventually, Huey turned his inner reflection outward and looked to Adder with a sense of awe. "Really!? Can you teach me how to say something?" he, practically, pleaded. Before he could reply to her text, he received another, this one attached with yet another photo. "Oooh~" Cloud hopped up, and then waved Huey's communicator around to grab his trainer's attention. "Look, Huebert! There's another Tybalt in this picture!"
Huey, confused, took the communicator to see for himself, and then offered a weak smile when he noticed Vanyel. "Oh yeah, there is," he commented, and then scrolled up to read Riley's other message. He picked his head up, and to Adder offered a distracted shrug. "Mm, sometimes. I think letting them decide how to fight is good," he admitted, before he looked over at Adder's pokemon, and then pointed over to his Chikorita. "Look. Your Chikorita found one of those weird fossil pokemon." He still didn't know if these pokemon were native to the island, or apart of some weird... new phenomenon, maybe there was something about it on the news. "Hey... Adder," Huey spoke up hesitantly, handing his communicator back to Cloud in the process, "Did you hear that there's some kind of ball going on in Kalos? ...My friend is there now."

I think you would look funny with big glasses, but in a nice way. My eyes are not big, so if I ever need glasses I will probably have to get small ones. If I were him, I would want to be smart, but it's great if he keeps things interesting! Maybe being dumb and interesting is better than being smart and boring. I'm not sure. Adder was slightly paying attention, despite the distraction of his conversation. In fact, since things seemed to be potentially wrapping up, he was paying even more attention to the battles going on. Weird pokemon were popping up more and more, and Chikorita was bouncing around, battling them, then returning for some healing, then going off again. He was doing a good job, but he'd need a break soon, and it would be a good chance to train some others. How many of these strange, disappearing pokemon were there....?

Adder tried to take a quick second, while he was talking with Huey and still listening for his answers, to try and work on his pokemon's movesets, or at least update them a bit so there was some more range. He had to release a few pokemon, and have Pichu run off to get him some heartscales, but he was able to expand their moves a lot, and that certainly made battling the next fossil pokemon much easier. Honestly, he ought to be catching them, but given their ability to vanish into thin air, he had a feeling the catch wouldn't really stick. But, at least Chikorita seemed to be benefiting from it, and even Cling seemed to be gaining some interest, enough so that, finally, the pokemon released Adder's wrist, and glided over to try a new attack on one of them.

Huey nodded. "Oh, uhm, okay. Next time then." As disappointed as he was to be not be taught a word, he was far too distracted to truly reflect on it. He nodded again, quicker, before tugging at his right sleeve, when Adder questioned him on his pokemon texting for him. "Sometimes." Actually, this was the first time he'd let his pokemon reply to a text meant for him, mostly because he only really received messages from his family, and this was a... special situation. He didn't want to think about the ball, and yet he couldn't not think about it, hence the question he prompted to Adder. Huey flinched at the older boy's suggestion that he attend the ball -- he didn't want to go, it was the last thing he wanted, but he was worried about Riley. Like, really worried. Even though he shouldn't have been. Because she seemed fine from her texts, and the likelihood of her having the same experience as him was astro-- astrono-- not likely. But he still worried, and the more he worried the tighter he gripped his sleeve. Adder's suggestion rung through his head again, attending the ball, and if he went.. then he could make sure Riley was okay. That was what friends did, after all.
Besides, it was clear that he'd worn out his welcome with Adder. Huey forced himself to take a breath--though it did him little good--before he nodded his head, more to himself than to anyone. "Mm, yeah. I should get going then," he mumbled, then placed Cloud down onto the ground, giving himself more space to hug himself. He stopped, motion half completed, when he realized what he was doing and forced his arms tightly to his side. He could, probably, find out more information about the ball if he went back to town, not to mention he'd get a chance to heal up his team. "G'luck on your gym battle, Adder," Huey spoke, as a form of goodbye, then quickly returned all but Cloud and Belle to their ball, and conveniently evading the worried luck Dianna gave him before she her form was overtaken by the red light of her capsule.

He waffled in his uncertainty as Huey mumbled he should go, and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, looking away, uncertain if he should apologize.
He glanced over at the kid's farewell, shifting and shrugging a little. "U-uh, yeah... thanks.... Huey," he mumbled awkwardly back, before dropping his hand. Trying to shake the discomfort, and realization of a failed human interaction, Adder turned his attention to his next goal. He... he was going to go and challenge Lana, and then.... attempt the trial. He needed to get caught up and exceed the amount of badges he had gotten in Sinnoh, but he still wanted to do things right, and be thorough. He just had to... hope his pokemon weren't on the verge of disobedience or anything....
To remove the concern, he started walking, taking as long steps as his short stature would allow him. He tried to start strategizing, and figuring out what his plan would be beyond this, and figure out where he was, currently. Cosmog popped out of his bag, earning a glare, but obliviously bopped on along up ahead of him. Grimacing, he kept an eye on the pokemon, and headed for Route 5.
