Sullivan’s eyes went wide as Toxtricity took the stage, front and center. Pink and ‘Lurie’ were absolutely elated by the theatrical arrival. The brunette punched the air followed by a loud ‘Whooop!’, while Lurantis slapped its leafy mandibles together in a rapid clapping motion in delight at its ally’s arrival.
The air pulsed with a flare of energy, a tingle reverberating through his spine as the hairs on the back of his neck rose to attention. While he eluded the rings of the note, he could feel an odd pressure in his ears and a reverberation that radiated up from the ground and through him. Was it playing music? The movements and feelings were akin to his experience at a few concerts. There was much more to it, judging by Lazurite’s helpless flopping. He glanced at Jinx in confusion, looking for clarification that he wasn't the only one feeling this phenomenon.
The man’s attention snapped back to Junpei as a flurry of leaves shot up through the air. Again, the Rockruff had taken the initiative to attack while everyone was distracted, slamming headlong into the Lurantis mid-cheer. It stumbled and quickly corrected itself, raising its arms like a ballerina and using the momentum of Junpei’s attack to spin away. Leaves kicked up in the wake of the spinning pink tornado, getting caught in its pull and launching into the Rockruff.
Sullivan panicked. Not good, not good, not good. The pup yelped in pain as it was pelted by petals made razors. He shook it off and rushed again with another iron-powered headbutt to the midsection. Lurantis flinched in annoyance, swiping through the air, and directing some stray floating leaves to strike though this time the pup didn’t fall back. Teeth latched onto the pink pokemon’s leg and with a fierce tug, Junpei yanked it from its feet and slammed it to the ground. This time, it didn’t get back up.
Forgetting their attachment, Sullivan yanked Jinx unexpectedly forward, snatching up Junpei as the pup feebly meandered and collapsed back near him. He scooped him up into his free arm, cradling him carefully to his chest, stern disappointment etched on his face. He couldn’t be proud of the win with how much damage the Rockruff took as a result. A stray object (a rock) hit him in the temple, and he flinched back. Pink Skull was infuriated, scooping up her own pokemon with murder in her eyes.
"You monsters! How... how dare you!" Sullivan grimaced, stepping back with Jinx and shooting her an apologetic look for his early action. Pink snapped her attention to her partner, already fumbling for the last of her pokeballs. "C'mon Sugar! We can't let'em get away with this! Look what they did to Lurie! To poor Tox he didn' deserve that!" She was babbling at this point clearly looking for assurance that there'd be restitution for these embarrassing defeats. She even glared at Lazurite. "Ya dumb fish! And stupid dog! Ya dumb blue braids are gonna pay!"

Jinx lurched forward with Sullivan as he ducked down to scoop up his pokemon. She stumbled before hurriedly correcting her posture and sucking her teeth in the face of his silent apology. To his attacker, and the mouthier of the two—Sugar had gotten awfully quiet after recalling her main act—she shot a glare strong enough to peel paint. "Shut up and let's get this over with." Whiners and complainers were already annoying enough, but when they got a thousand times worse when they... how did Kaeden put it? '******** around and found out'.
Sugar placed a comforting hand on Pink's shoulder before she leaned over to whisper something in her ear, an escape plan probably. "Hurry it up!" Jinx snapped and Sugar shot her a glare of her own. "Keep ya pants on!" She seemed a bit more reluctant to send out her next pokemon, shifting her weight from one foot to the other, and when she finally did toss the pokeball she did so without the same fanfare and decorum as before. "Just try your best, Senny.."
The small furry creature that came tumbling out wasn't what either opposing trainer or pokemon expected. Jinx squinted at the pokemon as it unfurled itself fully and popped itself onto its tail, then looked to its trainer who simply glowered at her. Lazurite stared at the Sentret, stock-still beyond the occasional spasm of paralysis and light snapping of her jaws. And she didn't stop staring ahead when Senny briefly disappeared and... bounced right off her side. It was as the little fuzzball was tumbling back that Lazurite finally reacted: flames rose up from her gumline seconds before she chomped down on its tail. She snapped her head back and forth, dizzying the pokemon as her flames crept up to its body, before audibly spitting the tail out and sending the pokemon flying, this time at Pink instead of a wall; which was a far kinder option, in Jinx's eye. Softer for sure.

It was evident in her posture that it took Pink Skull every fiber of her being to avoid getting catty and snapping back at Jinx. Her expression softened as whispers were exchanged, the corners of her mouth twitching. Was it a smile? A frown? It was hard to discern. All that followed was her head bobbing in acknowledgment a hand swiping a lock of hair from her face with renewed determination.
"Get’em Crabby!" For a brief moment, Sullivan could’ve sworn the heat dissuaded as the mammoth of a crab appeared and slammed its massive boxer claws together, squaring off. Sullivan sucked in a breath mind whirling over the situation. Pink settled a hand on her hip and shot the Sentret the briefest of glances as it came to the field. The corners of her mouth twitched but she shook it off and refocused on her own battle.
"What’cha gonna do?" She prodded, though the young man didn’t know. He could tell she was waiting on his next action from her posture, but it was evident they hadn’t clued in on his inability to perceive their words. Not that they would’ve, a lot was going over their heads at this point. Still, though, he had to decide who to send. Junpei was in no condition to fight further and unlike those of Sugar’s team, he was familiar with the pokemon Pink had been using; they’d fortunately been native to Alola.
Which was a blessing and a curse. Maybe Mana could handle it? Or would Kohei be a better shot? He didn’t want to risk too much-
A WOOSH roared through the air accompanied by an overbearing flash of heat. In a blink, the Crabonimable was enveloped in a blanket of flame. Sullivan jerked up and snapped around just as Hani toddled to his side, wisps of smoke seeping from the corners of his mouth. The Salandit looked from the smoldering remains of the crab to his trainer, head tilted.
Pink was in absolute shock. How could one of her pride and joys be so swiftly obliterated? By a lizard of all things? The lobbed Sentret hit her solidly and she toppled over with a squeal, fumbling on the group to shove it off and get back to her feet. The Skull girl bit the bottom of her lip, attempting to prevent a whelm of emotions as she looked at her partner.
Sullivan was relieved. There was nothing left for them at this point, at least from his point of view. This was about the point where they took the ‘L’ so to speak and ran off after some pathetic babble of insults. Refraining from jerking Jinx around as he had before, he set Junpei down gently on the ground to free a hand and dug about his bag, pulling out a green-tinted medicine bottle. He hadn’t missed Jinx’s concern for her own pokemon, and the bitey-shark had taken quite a beating handling the entirety of the Pink skull’s team. The infrequent spazams made it clear the poor thing was inflicted with some sort of status condition. He offered it to her, well more like shoved it into her hand before gesturing at Lazulite before fishing out some further potions for Junpei. The battle might’ve been over but leaving pokemon to suffer didn’t settle with him.

The giant furry crab Pink released was far more interesting to look at than Sugar's rodent with the added bonus of cooling the air around them. Jinx could even feel the prickle of goosebumps and the hairs on her forearm rise. She glanced at Sullivan's dog, still in his arms, then up at Sullivan himself; he bore a look of concentration, clearly thinking about who to send out next since his partner was worse for wear. Jinx turned her attention back to the crab. She was glad she didn't have to worry about making those types of decisions, even if Lazurite was a little worn down she didn't show signs of slowing down.
The Imperium agent was still staring at the Crabonimable, expression placid, before the cooler temperature abruptly, and without warning, became a distant memory as a wave of heat swept over and the Alolan heat returned with a vengeance. Jinx's eyes widened in sheer delight as a roaring bonfire blazed and crackled in the same spot the giant crab had been. "Oh...." Now that was a fire, and it was gorgeous.
She didn't want to take her eyes off the inferno, not when it was still burning at least, but her curiosity won out over her fascination. Jinx looked in the direction Sullivan was staring in then adjusted her head to look past him at the small—really small, she'd nearly missed it—puffing smoke like a chimney. "Oh." Wow, maybe she'd get one of those. After the arsonist was identified Jinx returned to the fire, only to find an even more entertaining sight awaiting her: the look of shock on Sugar's face turning her agape mouth into a capital 'O'. And then, she saw something even better.
Jinx didn't have time to steel herself, there was too much going on at once and burst out laughing as Lazurite whipped her opponent into Pink and sent her sprawling to the ground. So, she did care about more than just chewing. Lazurite herself, seemingly encouraged by her trainer's laughter, wiggled gleefully before she thumped herself back to her. Jinx, despite her mocking laughter, kept an eye on the two women, fully expecting one or both to send out another pokemon, and when that didn't happen and neither tried to pull anything else, she granted herself enough leeway to narrow her attention radius to shrink down to those closest to her.
"Huh?" She fumbled with the bottle thrust into her hands, looked at it, looked at Sullivan, then down to Lazurite who he was pointing at. "Oh... thanks," Jinx mumbled her gratitude, then gave a thumbs-up as an afterthought. "C'mere, you." Crouching as much as she could, she went about spraying Lazurite's wounds.... then her entire body, just to be safe. Before she could straighten back up, Sphene, whose whereabouts up until then had been completely unknown, shuffled in with an expectant look. "Okay. You too."
Sugar, who'd fallen silent after relaying her plan to her coconspirator, scooped up her fallen Sentret with one hand and used the other to squeeze Pink's shoulder comfortingly. "Don' sweat it, Pink," she murmured. "He'll be here soon."

Pink sniffled giving Sugar a despaired look. She was still nibbling at her bottom lip in pure agitation, but the shoulder squeeze seemed just enough to comfort her. "R-r-right," she said, words stuttered in a failed bid to maintain her composure.
Sullivan was focused on tending to Junpei. The Rockruff flinched as the medicine spray was administered but slowly began to perk back up which gave his trainer just enough relief to peel his attention away. He turned to check that Jinx and her team were taken care of; she’d seemed hesitant when he’d given her the potion, but thankfully didn’t refrain from using it to better her team. With his focus everywhere but the Skulls, he missed a third form approaching from behind the girls.
"What’s goin’ on here?" The male’s tone was deep and resonated through the air. He was at least half a head taller than the two and his attired bore the same patterns and style, short spikes of light orange peeking out from under his own beanie. Brown eyes lazily took in the scene he’d stumbled on before resting on Sugar and Pink. "Why are these two still standin’?"
"They cheated, Crusher!" Pink babbled, immediately spilling all kinds of nonsense in the course of a minute. The male, Crusher apparently, rolled his eyes and slapped a hand onto the top of her head, shutting her down like a blaring alarm clock. "Shut it." Despite it, his expression visibly tensed, glaring at the two blue-haired trainers before addressing Sugar. "So, these two went and whomped ya two good? That what I’m hearin’, Sugar?" Hints of malice leaked through the lazy tone. Evidently, he didn't take to kindly to this sort of news.

Jinx's finger was still on the trigger of the potion bottle when Sphene shuffled off again, and she didn't try to stop him. He was more than capable of caring for himself. Besides, they'd wasted enough time on this detour already. A man's baritone broke the silence and Jinx snapped her head up, her calmer expression blown out like a candle in the wind, and a very hard frown took over in its place. Her expression flickered for the briefest moment as she stared at the Skull girls, who'd gained one more person. A man this time, much taller but in the same uniform and beanie.
Sugar scowled down at the ground, refusing to answer while she worked her jaw, before, finally, she gave a brisk nod. "...It's jus' like Pink said, dey cheated," she grumbled before jabbing an accusatory finger at Jinx. "Blue braid's stupid shark even took out Tox, Crush. Tox!" Sugar turned it to Sullivan next. "An' Blue Mute's stupid... dumb dog and lizard got Pink's pokemon." She dropped her arm down before she looked back to the taller Skull member. "Dey're pickin' on us."
Jinx, who'd kept quiet up until this point, looked between 'Crusher' and the girls. There was... something familiar in the way they earnestly turned, and practically pleaded, to him. It was far from the most important observation she made, but it stood out to her nonetheless. Jinx snorted derisively. It didn't matter. She jerked her head, then finally spoke up, "I don't care who you are, but if you're not going to get out of our way then send out your pokemon already."

- Crusher’s gaze never deviated from the opposing trainers as Sugar spilled her side of the story, Pink’s head bobbing up and down wildly under his hand as she did. "Oh yeh? Tox and Crabby?" It wasn’t a question, but an acknowledgment, hand slipping off of Pink’s head and down to his side. "Gotcha."
An eyebrow arched high, his attention shifting to focus on Jinx. It lingered for a silent minute before he let loose a forced laugh. "Woah, tough broad ain’ ya? Come and bully my lil’ sisters and then start squealin’ to leave?" A thumb swiped at his eye to brush away invisible crocodile tears. He pushed his way past the two girls, ambling forward and coming to a halt a good few feet from Jinx and Sullivan.
"Sure, sure we’ll get goin’. Soon as you get past me." There were hints of a smile in his voice, though the look in his eyes absolutely promised violence. He tugged two pokeballs from his belt and let them loose. "I’ll even fight ya, two on one." He chucked one of the balls forward, in Sullivan's direction first while he palmed the other patiently.
Sullivan frowned as the ball popped open and out flipped the tiny blue form of a Totodile. It landed graciously, thrusting its fist into the air in excitement. Hani stared at the stranger and his pokemon, huffing the last of the smoke from the corners of his lips. The croc paused, gaze locking onto Hani. There was a shine in its eyes before it erupted into an excited cackle.
A jet stream of water shot from its mouth and straight into Hani’s face. Both pokemon and trainer jumped at the unissued attack, Sullivan’s gaze snapping to the male form shaking in controlled chuckles. ”Oops, sorry.” Shoulders shrugged before he gave a lazy gesture. Hani huffed, drenched, and hurt before vomiting his own glob of poison at the Totodile in retaliation. The croc cackled (was it angry? Didn’t seem to be) and charged. It spun and scooped up a handful of the mud mix that’d been created because of its early move, slamming it right into the Salandit’s eyes. Hani stumbled, violently shaking his head to try and clear his vision, retaining enough sense of direction to launch another glob of poison at its foe.
Sullivan visibly bristled already reaching for Hani’s pokeball in a failed attempt to try and return him before things went any further south. Crusher just ‘tsk’ed and shook his head. ”Nuh uh, finish it Tot.” Another cackle and another spit of water right into an already blinded Hani’s face sent the Salandit flipping head over heels and into the dented wall from before. Sullivan snapped to attention, eyes wide in shock at the sight of Hani’s unconscious form. Crusher just ‘tsk’ed again, reaching for another pokeball and chucking it Jinx’s way. ”Your turn braids, let’s see what you’ve got.” He commented, ignoring the cheers and jeers of his Totodile.

The scoff that tore itself free from Jinx's throat was almost as loud as her eye roll. Still, as she physically reacted to Crusher's ridiculous statement—you couldn't bully someone who'd come looking for a fight—she was processing this new information. They were siblings? The family resemblance was lost to her, but their dynamic was hard to deny. Jinx planted her feet firmly on the ground as the hulking figure closed the gap and acknowledged, briefly, the pang in her heart as her thoughts turned to Kaeden. What was he up to right now? She hadn't talked to him in what felt like years (read: over half a day).
Once she was free from this entirely, she'd call him. But, in order to do that, they'd have to walk over this behemoth; screw getting past him. The longer Jinx glared, and she was glaring now, at his ugly, overconfident face the angrier she was growing. She met his promise of violence with her own. He'd just be lucky if she contained it to just the pokemon battle.
Crusher was different from his sisters, and it quickly became obvious that the swagger he held was earned. Jinx sucked her teeth when Sullivan's little lizard had its fires doused, but refused to look away from the actual threat. Especially not after he called her out. "Lazu–" A familiar forest green blur shot out from behind Jinx to intercept Crusher's pokemon, far faster than even the overeager Lazurite, and Sphene ruffled his petals challengingly at the giant turtle. It seemed he was done beating up on dragons and the unconscious bodies in his wake were his proof.
The Sember bore an impassive look at his opponent. Drednaw stared back, an equally blank expression on its face, before suddenly, and without warning, its head stretched out and snapped Sphene into its jaws; just like Totodile, it'd attacked without command. Sphene wiggled and thrashed within the turtle's mouth before hurling himself forward with enough force to dislodge himself. He tumbled unceremoniously to the ground, bruised and a little moist. Jinx held her tongue, and her emotions from bubbling to the surface; they needed to stew a bit longer. She didn't have time to react, anyhow: Drednaw didn't give her or Sphene a chance.
A bright blue light encompassed the turtle's horn before it extended out into a wicked point. It swung its head back before charging at Sphene at a speed that should've been impossible for a creature its size. The light had a physical form that caught the little bulb in its face before it lifted him off the ground and into the air. Instinctively, Jinx's head and eyes followed her pokemon's rocketed ascent into the air as her mask of indifference cracked. She scowled, the deep lines of her mouth made up of a mixture of outrage and distress, and pressed a trembling fist tightly into her thigh. Sphene, to his credit, didn't wait until he began falling to unleash a torrent of leaves that cut and sliced into the squishy parts of Drednaw's body that weren't protected by its shell.
But then he did fall, straight back down and into the awaiting jaws of Drednaw. They snapped shut around his leafy body and Drednaw gave a single shake of its head before its jaws reopened and Sphene flopped face-first into the dirt and did not move. It was obvious that the turtle had meant to spit him out, but the injuries it'd sustained had left it with just enough strength to drop him.
Like a soggy napkin.

- "Huh." Crusher craned his head back as Sphene’s splattered to the ground before Drednaw, gaze lazily rolling between the fallen bulb to the wall slammed lizard before rolling right back to their owners. "Don’ t tell me that’s all you got? Really?" A hint of discontent laced his tone as he adjusted his posture, hands shoved deep into his pockets as he glanced back at his proclaimed sisters to gauge their responses.
A lump had formed in Sullivan’s throat as Sphene intervened on Jinx’s behalf and was soundly brought to heel. Much as the battle was in its favor, it didn’t seem to be enough to put the Drednaw down. Two knock outs in such a short span of time were not a boost to motivation. Sullivan kept his head forward but peered from the corners of his eyes to gauge Jinx’s reaction. It’d been clear from the get-go that she was enraged when the Skull girls had come at them, but that’d lacked any casualties on their side. There was a drop in his stomach at the thought that she might lash out in response to this attack.
Which meant, that the sooner they got through Crusher, the better. He flipped Hani’s pokeball free and returned the unconscious Salandit, Totodile cackling in delight as it hopped from one foot to the other in a teasing dance of anticipation. At least this pause gave him a chance to think about his next course of action; he hadn’t expected Crusher to be any weaker than their previous opponents, but the strength of his Totodile was beyond his expectations. Along with that, he knew quite enough about Totodiles, it was a league of difference from fighting Pink.
Hesitantly he unleashed Mana. The Dartix gave an annoyed hoot, glaring first at her trainer and then at the fiendish crocodile dancing in delight. Before he could even gesture an order, Crusher’s head jerked back in a laugh, at least from what his posture displayed. "Nope. Tot, bite it." Eyes went wide as frost and flakes began to mist from the Totodile’s math and in a flash, it’d flung itself forward and snapped it’s jaws down right onto one of Mana’s wings. If there had been a chance for Mana to even comprehend what had just occurred, it didn’t show on her face. She slumped, the sheen of frost glistening over her as she slammed face first to the ground, unconscious.
"Is this really all ya got?" Crusher sounded disappointed, split as his attention might’ve been. He’d expected both to get something out, but it was clear he couldn’t resist the instant win he’d been granted. Sullivan said nothing, just returning Mana, head down in shame. The Skull shook his head. "This dude mute? Can’t blame him, I wouldn’ want ta open my mouth if I sucked this bad either."

The popping sound of a pokeball opening caught his attention and an eyebrow raised as a black Sharpedo suddenly appeared. "Oh." This time Totodile didn’t wait for an order, launching and snapping a solid chomp onto the top fin of the Sharpedo. This didn’t have nearly the effect it thought it would though and the pokemon flinched at the rough sandpaper texture that met its tongue, a wave of pain flashing across its face. Kairi shuddered, annoyed before her fin was enveloped in a blanket of shadows that launched right into the Totodile’s mouth. The croc shrieked, shot up, and flopped down to the ground, twitched once, then twice before it stopped moving, finally still for once.

Jinx ran her thumb over the smooth surface of Sphene's pokeball as she stared down at his limp form. She'd never had a pokemon faint on her before, but... that was what it was, right? He'd just lost consciousness. He wasn't dead. Sphene just looked like he was, but if she looked carefully she could see the very tip-top of his petals stirring gently in a breeze that wasn't there: he was still breathing, or at least his version of it.
Sphene was alive, but Jinx took little comfort in it. She silently returned him to his pokeball. She was done. Officially. "Lazurite." She spoke the shark's name without inflection or emotion. The pokemon still responded as if she'd been commanded and heaved herself onto the battlefield to face off against the snapping turtle. It was impossible to tell if she was enraged on Sphene's behalf or just eager to have her turn, but she snapped at the air more ferociously than usual.
Drednaw, still weak, was cautious of those shining pearls and hurled an upheaval of stone to keep its distance. Lazurite didn't even flinch as the rubble bounced off her steel hide and launched herself at the enemy once her path was clear. She didn't hold back and when her teeth closed around the Drednaw's own snapping jaws she dug them in tight and held on while the turtle bucked and writhed in pain until a powerful shudder rocked through it and it dropped to the ground like a stone. Lazurite chewed on the unconscious pokemon a bit longer, growling in her throat, before she finally released it.
"Bring out your next pokemon." Jinx demanded, and a growl reverberated through the alley. It was hard to tell whose throat it rumbled from: hers or Lazurite's, both had their teeth bared.

Crush straightened his stance, gaze narrowing on Jinx. "Oh?" He eyed her up and down, amused or annoyed by her demand. "Someone’s angry." He teased. He returned his two fallen pokemon to their pokeballs, unsnapping two others from his belt. "Your funeral braids."
The hairs on the back of Sullivan’s neck bristled as a new challenger unleashed. His expression went from terse to surprised as the pink pastry pokemon materialized. It fluffed the two cloud puffs at the side of her head before pirouetting in a grand introduction. A knot formed in his throat; he didn’t recognize this pokemon and with a chunk of his team put out of commission, it didn’t instill confidence.
Instinctively he reached for his pokedex, fidgeting with his bag as he kept eyes on Crush, eyeing the second pokeball as it unleashed a Mudsdale. That was a familiar sight but didn’t help him out much. Could he bluff his way through it? He couldn’t well let Jinx handle them both. Right then. He took a deep breath, letting his hands fall away from his bag and instead retrieving his journal and pen. Quickly he flipped to the page they’d been using before, scribbling a message, and showing it to Jinx. 'Right to the pokemon center after this. Okay?'
He didn’t wait for a response; it was less of a question and more of an indication that after this they’d be out right away; to briefly distract her thoughts because the tension in the air was thick enough to slash with a knife. He tucked the notebook under the crock of his arm, he returned Kairi, and snapped his fingers to draw Junpei’s attention. For the first time in battle, he issued a series of signs at the pup even though his eyes remained fixated on the living meringue. He didn’t need confirmation that the Rockruff understood; he’d been in his life long enough that it just wasn’t needed.
The Slurpuff wiggled in place, cooing at the Rockruff as his attention snapped away from his trainer and back to it. Much like its predecessors before it didn’t hesitate to take advantage of the brief delay. A massive ball of energy formed between it’s and with a delighted little squeal, it hauled it above its head and launched it at an unsuspecting Junpei.
Sullivan didn’t need the horrible yelp as his pokemon was struck to know it’d hurt; the pup’s body reeling back in its entirety as he was struck by the compelling force of energy was evidence enough. Junpei tumbled head over heels once, then twice, and before paws met the ground and stopped his roll.
He snuffled and growled, shaking off the aftermath before launching his own attack. His fur shined as it took a steely texture and the full force of Junpei slammed headfirst into the Slurpuff like a bullet. The air reverberated with a shockwave that stunned the Slurpuff and this time it was Sullivan’s turn to take advantage of the delay. Junpei slammed once more into the Slurpuff and that was just enough to send it flying through the air, landing with an unceremonious thud.

Jinx’s expression didn’t waver when Crusher released a living pastry and a—giant—horse, two pokemon she didn’t recognize. At her feet, Lazurite snapped her teeth irritably; a sentiment Jinx shared. Her plan took into account every species and typing: bulldoze ‘em over. Crimson red eyes rolled over the pokemon to their trainer and the Skull girls that clung to him like barnacles, and Jinx’s mouth pulled down into a sneer. The entire family was a pain in her a**—unpromoted too, which was the kicker given Jinx’s history—and if they thought they could just run away with their tails tucked between their legs…
A nudge at her thigh and then a more persistent one when she didn’t react, forced Jinx to look away from the siblings and down at Sullivan's notebook. 'We can’t go into the city like this. Co-' No, wait. That was from earlier. Jinx squinted and searched the page for the new message he'd written out. 'Right to the pokemon center after this. Okay?' Her face fell.
"Don't even dink 'bout runnin' away!" Sugar crowed, and Jinx ignored her. Sullivan was right: her focus needed to be on her pokemon. She lifted her head wordlessly, opened her mouth to address Lazurite, and then closed it when she became distracted by Sullivan's signing. She didn't need to look to know that everyone's eyes were on his hands as he instructed his dog. Were the siblings confused? Probably. Jinx doubted they even realized he was deaf. The only ones not watching him were the pokemon. Outside of Junpei, the pokemon paid little mind to the humans.
She watched their battle, oddly captivated. Something deflated in Jinx's chest when the tiny cupcake pokemon's green ball of light hit Junpei hard; after all of that, he was still going to lose? But despite the damage, Junpei didn't fall. And then, he was across the alleyway. The air shimmered and Jinx blinked, first to clear her vision and then again in confusion when a pink blob caught her attention. It looked like someone had dropped their giant, strawberry shortcake cupcake.
That was... cool. Sullivan's dog wasn't just all bark and no bite. And, the beanpole himself wasn't useless either.
Jinx let her shoulders relax and fist unclench before she turned to stare down Crusher's last pokemon. "Lazu-- ehu-pbtttt!" She coughed and spat as a swallowed in the cloud of dust left behind in Lazurite's wake. She made a beeline for Mudsdale, icicles already stretching down to encapsulate her rows of pointed teeth. Mudsdale stood its ground and only raised its left hoof when the land shark was feet away, prepared to counter. Lazurite didn't give it the chance and when she lept she aimed for the draft horse's throat. It threw its head back in alarm, locked mane flying in the air, and let out a distressed whinny when she bit down and didn't let go, the ice ensuring she stayed put. Lazurite's muffled growls were drowned out as Mudsdale bucked and twisted its head, desperate to throw the shark-turned-lamprey off. Instead, she bit down even harder until a powerful shudder passed through Mudsdale and its eyes rolled back. With Lazurite refusing to let go, the two pokemon fell together in a heap, their heavy bodies disturbing a cloud of dirt.

Sullivan choked back a cough, hand slapping over his nose and mouth to protect against Lazurite’s dust cloud. Through squinted eyes he watched the little anchor shark assault the Mudsdale, alarmed at how quickly she managed to bring the steed down. Mudsdale were hardy beasts, and it took a lot to startle them. To see one lose it’s cool made the hairs on the back of his neck rise.
Jinx was no joke. It was probably in his best interest that once they’d gotten their teams taken care of, they head straight for the scientist center and see if they could get unstuck. His hand lowered as the battle concluded, locking eyes on the group. Crusher’s eyes were stern behind his mask. What was he thinking? It was hard to say.
"No way! Crusher how?!" Pink wailed, clinging tightly to the man’s arm as she looked between him and the pair in utter dismay. Sullivan might’ve not been able to hear the shrill theatrics, but their body language of hers was enough to tell him that she was taking it harder. Much harder than the man who’d lost.
Which was kind of upsetting to Sullivan. How many of his pokemon had been brutalized by this guy? Or Jinx’s for that matter? He shook his head, snapping his fingers to draw Junpei’s attention. The Rockruff was still on the defensive, ready to lash out at any surprises that the Skull’s might unleash. He snatched his bag up from beside him where Hani had left it, shoving the journal back inside and slinging it over his free shoulder.
He tapped Jinx on the shoulder, jerking his head backward as a motion that now was the time to go. He’d meant what he’d said, about going straight to the center afterward and he didn’t intend to wait. His gaze glanced back at the trio, slightly nervous as Crusher suddenly seemed to loom much taller than before.
"Oh so you think ya get to just walk now?" He sneered, shaking the two girls off as he punched a fist into his palm. Uh oh. Sullivan bristled and out of instinct raised his right hand up, placing the index of his left between the index and middle of his right, swiping it along the middle in one swift motion. Run away.
He didn’t even consider for a moment that Jinx wouldn’t understand the motion. But his focus was on Crusher as he took slow steps towards them, stepping over his own fallen pokemon. Yeah, he was mad.

Pink's wailing was music to Jinx's ears with Sugar's twisted scowl the cherry on top, and, never one to resist rubbing salt in the wound, Jinx flashed her brightest and haughtiest grin at the Skull minions; imagine picking a fight and still losing. Her mood was considerably more optimistic; she returned Lazurite before the shark could permanently damage her unconscious chew toy. This encounter had been a nuisance and a waste of time, but it was over now. And that's what Jinx would focus on, for her pokemon's sake.
At Sullivan's instance, Jinx shot the siblings one last taunt—a raspberry and middle finger—before she turned forward, more than ready to wash her hands of them. And yet, when Crusher called out to them, the young woman felt her heart thump excitedly; if he was the aggressor, then she had plausible self-defense. Jinx whipped her head back so fast her braids beat her thigh, her eyes widening with the delight that came with anticipated violence. "I'll walk over your corpse," she retorted and stalked forward, forcing Sullivan to step with her; he'd gotten them into this mess, and the least he could do was be her accomplice.
"Jinx," a voice sighed in her head as Jinx stared down Crusher, her fingers twitching in anticipation. "Jinx." The voice tried again, firmer and more strained, and she involuntarily sucked her front teeth. "What?" she barked back, cutting in before Opal spoke a third time. "Walk away. They aren't worth the trouble it would bring." Jinx loudly snorted at the pokemon's advice and swiped at her bang. "You know, it's funny," she drawled, ignoring the confused looks her sudden outburst got her. "You want to stick your nose in my business now, but not when I need it." Jinx snorted at the heavy silence that followed, and when Opal didn't respond further, she forced herself and Sullivan to take another step.
“Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.” Opal's long-suffering sigh seeped into everyone's mind before the pokemon made her appearance, holding her head with one hand. "I have a headache," she complained, her eyes flickering between both groups. "So, let's make this quick.
"You three." Without warning, an invisible force lifted Crusher 50 feet into the air. "Are going to let us pass," Opal explained slowly in the tone of a teacher who was losing their patience and turned to face the Skulls full-on. "Wh-what d'ya dink you're doin'?!" Sugar shrieked. "Let 'im go!" Opal exasperatedly massaged her temple. "That's a poor choice of words," she said; finally, the orange-haired man began to fall with a snap of her fingers. "Let's—" Her voice cut sharply through the girls' screams—and maybe Crusher's, but she wasn't paying as much attention to him—and Crusher simultaneously froze in the air, inches from the ground and a messy landing. "Try this again. You're going to leave, now, and we will continue on our way. And if I come across any of your friends, then I'm going to find you three, pick you up–one by one–and then I'm going to drop you. From a very high place."
The Slowpoke didn't wait for an answer before unceremoniously dropping Crusher, and she certainly didn't wait to see if her threat stuck before she turned to her ward and her… hostage? Unwitting accomplice? "There. Happy?" Opal hissed, her expression both annoyed and unimpressed. "I helped. Now: stay. Out. Of. Trouble." She took the liberty of returning to her pokeball. In the silence that followed her departure, Jinx sucked her front teeth before she gave Sullivan a sideways glance, shoulders deflating with disappointment; that'd been anticlimactic.
"Let's go," she grumbled.

Sullivan stumbled as Jinx forced their steps not away but in the Skull’s direction, distress quickly etching across his face as his gaze flitted from her to the approaching Crush. He knew a fight when he saw one and while he had little reason to doubt Jinx could hold her own in a fight, their complicated situation of well… being stuck together didn’t feel him with much confidence. A living meat shield wasn’t something he was looking to be, and he wanted to get his team tended to as soon as possible.
Sullivan tried to gain her attention and considered even dragging her away (wrong as that seemed) when a force erupted in his mind. It startled him and his hands flew up to the side of his head in a panic. His heart picked up into a racing pace as he tried to comprehend it before he caught sight of the Slowking before them. A psychic type? Ah, okay.
He took a deep breath to try and steady himself, a small headache looming in the front of his temple. Psychics weren’t a new thing to him; he’d encountered them once or twice throughout his life. But the telepathic communication thing had never settled well; or rather just didn’t translate. Words were lost on him and instead came as some overwhelming incomprehensible force, like being slammed down by ocean waves.
”GAH!” Crusher yelped as he slammed down to the ground after a jerky up and down. He scrambled to his feet, the cheeks peeking from the tops of his mask a beat red in flustered agitation and humiliation. It was good fortune it was there to hide the fact. He scrambled to his feet, staring daggers at Jinx, Sullivan, and Opal before she took her leave swiftly returning his pokemon and turning to the two girls. ”C’mon, screw these losers. We’ll get’em later,” he muttered in a rushed tone. ”But, but Crusher! They ain’ paid-“ Pink tried to protest, mouth snapping shut the minute he glared her way.
”We’ll get them later,” He hissed again and with one last glare, grabbed both and drug them quickly away from the duo. Sullivan blinked away the last of the blur from his eyes, watching their fleeting forms. He sighed in relief, turning his attention back to the disappointed Jinx. Why did she look down? Was she really that desperate to throw hands against the Skulls? Oof.
He sighed, in relief and concern, nodding some as he noted her grumblings. He didn’t catch it, but judging by how quickly the situation had diffused there was no longer a need to linger. He tapped her on the shoulder and pointed back down the alleyway, towards the more open streets that would guide them to the pokemon center. He meant what he said about getting their team taken care of and then they could proceed to the research lab for assistance on their issue.
It took a bit getting back into coordinating their steps, but once they had a flow the trip to the Pokemon center was a short one. Sullivan was quick to fish out his pokeballs and hand them over to Nurse Joy for immediate care, waiting expectantly for Jinx to (hopefully) do the same before he gestured towards a free table for them to sit and rest while they waited. He fished out the journal again, flipping to a clean page this time before scribbling her a message. 'I’m sorry about the trouble with the Skull thugs, I hope you’re okay?'
