Mel quirked an eyebrow and glanced at Lala, but smirked at his proposal of an alternative reaction. She relaxed some, then shrugged. "S'pose I can see that. Yeh'd be cute with a pout, Lala," she added teasingly, reaching over to pinch his cheek. She let him be while they decided their food and handed over the menus once they had, taking it from Lucy, who huffed and slumped in her seat.
She looked curiously over to lala at the question, but put on a thoughtful look, raising her gaze to the sky. "Honestly, I don't have much of a plan... Probably go and get some more badges, travel, do some investigation, see what all I'm expected to do so I can get back to being a cop, while seeing what I can find out about all those villainous groups out there," she replied, smirking playfully and wiggling her fingers at the mention of the teams that haunted the various regions.

"Ha! Now tha’d be a col’ day in tha’ void zone ta happen." Lafayette scoffed, making a little face of jokish disapproval at the cheek pinch he received. Actually, he probably pouted a lot or something and just didn’t know it; pouting just didn’t sound tough and like something one ought to admit to in any form.
The Aussie listened to Mel’s answer while chomping his own burger, hunched over to assure he could keep a hold on the burger while also not making a massive mess all over the place. He cocked an eyebrow and straightened just a bit to swallow, setting the burger down to swipe across his face. "Hm… realleh? Huh…," he murmured in response. "Sounds roigh’ excitin’. G’luck with the coppin’. Ain’ like baddies are much a worreh anyways." He teased before resuming his eating, snagging a few fries from Noah to eat before going right back into his burger. Obviously, he was hungrier than he thought, or really wasn’t thinking at all about how quickly he was consuming his meal. Either way, it was going to be gone soon.

Mel smirked, a sly sort of smirk that suggested she was thinking something she wasn't saying. She didn't press the matter, or the teasing, beyond that, and instead focused on the next topic of conversation, and her food. Though.... she couldn't help but stare a little, as subtly as possible, only when he wasn't looking, as Lala ate. Brian was a little less subtle, but then again, he wasn't engaged in the conversation. It was just.... Was he starving or something? Or was this how he always ate? Mel shook off the near-awe level of befuddlement and focused on what he was saying, smirking some at the playfulness. "Well, I don' know about tha'. They're still stealing pokemon and causing trouble, after all. That's reason enough ta go after them," she remarked just as lightly.
She blinked at the question, though, laughing a bit, and then shaking her head. "Oh, certainly not. Or, I mean, maybe in a few years, when me and my pokemon are all strong enough, and we'd like to see how we fair, but.... it's certainly not on my goals. What about you? You plannin' anythin' like that?" she returned, taking the opportunity to work on finishing her own food.

Lafayette didn’t notice, or if he did he didn’t acknowledge, the looks that he was receiving as he consumed his food. Even Noah didn’t give it a second look, instead munching happily at the french fries that had been passed into his possession. They were just the right level of salty goodness that a growing Dewott needed in their life.
”Mmm… s’pose,” Lafayette mumbled through a mouth full of bread and beef before he swallowed. ”Buncha pusses though, doub’ they’ll give yeh much trubs unless yeh let’em,” he gave Brian a bit of a glance on that remark, no insinuation intended by it but given what had recently happened well....
”Few years huh? Why s’long?” he remarked, finishing the last few bites of his burger. Well that lasted long. He didn’t even hesitate to start stealing fries again from Noah, though the Dewott had made it through had the box so it was hardly a problem. He only paused a moment when he started hearing a little beeping ringing noise in his ears. It was like the sound of his communicator going off but that couldn’t have been, he’d gone and left that with Cheri to talk to who the hell knew who. He shook it off and just focused back on munching the fries, eye twitching a bit as the noise grew consistently louder. Oi, that was annoying.

Lafayette gave a smirk at the Bunnelby remark, chuckling under his breath. "Yeh I s’pose." Did numbers really change anything though in the grand scheme of things? A bigger pile of stupid didn’t stop them from being well… stupid. But maybe that was him. In fact it was entirely him; who knew you could have a negative experience with a bad-guy group? Hilarious really.
Swiping his hand on his pants, the Aussie looked between the two with a tired but cheeky smile. "Sounds good," he gave a little flick of his wrist to wave at the pair. "Oro then Mello. Bri," he gave each a nod, "don’ go buyin’ ugleh knicks now. Or gettin’ mugged again." He joked though for the most part kind of meant it both ways. Lafayette finally arrived back at the hotel and started his way up to his room. It’d been a long and… eventful day and he could finally feel the results of it all weighing him down. He could use a solid nap at this point and was looking forward to flopping down in that oversized plus bed. Maybe this vacation wasn’t going to be so bad after all. He swiped the card and tucked it away before shoving the door open to step inside…
"Ah the mighty have returned!" Juliean chimed, glancing up from the trash of a magazine he’d been reading to look at the grimacing Lafayette. Wow that was exactly the opposite of who he wanted to encounter in this moment. The only thing that deviated him from immediately dropping to solid grump was the strange stack of chairs and pillows on the bed he’d wanted to sleep on with Cheri nestled right at the top, that blank stare directed at him with no hint to what was going through her mind in that moment.
"Wha’ the fu-," he started but Juliean promptly slamming the magazine down on the side table and kicked himself up to stand. Lafayette stepped in and shut the door behind him, gaze focused on the other man as he sauntered over with a sort of… less than amused look on his face? It was kind of hard to tell… or maybe he was just that tired.
"Amazing isn’t it? I lend you this room for a little vacation and you allow that bubblegum fluff thing to build a fort. Just delightful." Juliean remarked once he was a foot from the blonde, spinning on his heels and swinging a hand out in gesture at the tower on the bed. He gave a lazy smirk back at the man, "And here I was going to feel bad for cutting you little vacation short." Immediately he dropped the facade and straightened up to his proper height, a stern expression crossing his face as he folded his arms behind his back, imposing and clearly annoyed.
"Ah well." Juliean raised and hand and snapped before thrusting a finger in Lafayette’s chest. "I hope you enjoyed your day of frolicking but I’ll be needing you to get back to work." He flicked the Aussie’s nose earning an annoyed growl.
"Because that means something to me, hmm?" Juliean waved off the remark, moving over to Cheri and her makeshift tower. He plucked her from the top with a disapproving look before promptly chucking her directly at the blonde to catch last minute. "I’ll expect you to get back to getting badges right away."
"Whu…," Lafyette muttered as he tucked Cheri under his arm, ignoring the bit of scolding that Noah gave the pokemon for the mess she’d created. Juliean only glanced back briefly at the confused response, ‘hmph’ing and flicking the strand of hair from his face.
"Go. Get. More. Badges." He said in a deliberately slow tone that would’ve probably pissed off any other regular soul. Actually, it even miffed Lafayette but he was much to agitated and tired at this point to argue. He could punch Juliean later, in the future perhaps when his only punching hand wasn’t occupied.There was long moment of silence as he brewed in the command and even Juliean gave a look as though he would not be pleased if he had to repeat himself.
"... Foine mate. Wha’evah." Was the Aussie’s final remark as he set Cheri down and rubbed his eyes. His employer watched a moment, as though looking for some sign that the comment wasn’t meant before an appeased smirk took over his features.
"Good. Then I’ll expect you to head off as soon as possible. Check out is at 6." The man paused, glancing back at the bed. "And do clean up this mess before you go. I don’t need to be losing my platinum membership privileges because of you." And with a snap, his Alakazam (who had quietly and patiently been waiting at the side of the chair he was previously seated in) stepped forth and the two disappeared.

Well so much for a vacation. Honestly, it was too good to be true and Lafayette wasn’t surprised in the least bit though he expected to get more than… what. A day? 3/4ths a day? It was a bit of a punch in the gut but whatever. Lafayette instead stared at the mess that Cheri had created and with a sigh set about cleaning it up the forte with a bit of help from Noah. Cheri, decided to simply plant herself in the seat that Juliean had previously occupied and watch the whole thing play out; what a wonderful helper she was.
It really didn’t take long to get everything sorted and back in place and soon Lafayette was collecting his bag and heading back down to the lobby to return the key card with Noah and Cheri in towe. It occurred to him that this sudden shift in his vacation meant that he’d be having a hard time getting back to meet Mel for their little spar. Hopefully, he could get through this quick enough with time to spare and at least make his challenge. He needed some things to look forward to after all and that had been one of them.
He shook it off for now though, returning the card and grabbing himself an energy drink to tide him over until their next stop. So he was supposed to go get more badges huh? It wasn’t exactly like Juliean hadn’t specified which ones he wanted him to get which was… kind of a pain in the a** to be honest.
Lafayette tugged his badge case free from his bag as they walked outside, taking a look at the shiny little trinkets that marked someone as a competing trainer. And while it looked like he had a lot, even he recognized that he wasn’t very far along in any particular region. He stared them down and decided he might as well head back to Kanto to continue along there. It made the most sense right?
Right. He chugged the last of his drink and chucked the can, returning Cheri and Noah for the time being and summoning out Dova. The Noivern seemed overly enthused to see him once more, nuzzling him excitedly before settling down enough to let him mount up. Well it was good to see some things that still liked him…

The flight was less than fifteen minutes or so; the wind was on Inoke’s side and gave the Braviary little resistance making the glide over the waters a pleasant one. As they approached, Sullivan was already scanning the sands and gave Inoke a bit of a excited pat before pointing him in the direction of an almost petite woman who had already risen from the seat of her outdoor table to wave a hand in the air and flag them down, Junpei barking excitedly as he spotted the familiar face as well..
Inoke didn’t hesitate, dropping into a steady dive before touching down slowly, more so in an attempt to not kick up sand. Sullivan slipped off and plopped down on the sands with a thud, grin on his face as he lowered himself to level with the woman to greet the hug sent his way. It was crazy how long it’d been since he’d actually last seen her; she hadn’t seen him off (that was Hannah and the twins as she’d had work) but that morning almost felt years away all the same.
Pulling apart, he immediately started into a tirade of sign gestures, questions coming every which way. How was she doing? How was work? How was home? Honestly, his excitement was getting to him. His mother gave a gentle laugh, hand over her mouth to hide it before reaching her own out and clamping them gently over his own to get him to stop so she could ‘speak’.
’Slow down Sully! You look hungry, how about we eat first, okay?’ She signed before gently ushering him towards to table, his eyes just now noticing that there appeared to be a decent sized lunch box with a generous plate already made on the table for him. He could already tell she’d gone all in for this moment. Wow.

Sullivan certainly didn’t hesitate to take a seat and start chowing down on the plate of food his mother had so kindly put together for him pre-arrival. She’d even had him let out his pokemon for a short time, giving them all there own little dishes to enjoy. Inoke, Kairi and Junpei of course accepted this wholeheartedly; they were used to a good meal from her. Ulani immediately took to it herself, cheeks already puffing out as she shoved several chunks of the pokemon mean in her face without hesitation which caused Hani to stall in eating his own food since, that was a terrifying sight really. And of course Kohei and Mana, being the little tough outcasts that they were, pecked at their own food offerings off to the side.
Of course, food didn’t stop conversation and soon Sullivan and his mother were quickly catching up. He filled her in on all the things he’d been up too, the trials and how they’d gone, meeting and catching his pokemon, what he’d seen so far and what little island secrets he’d found. In turn she revealed what she’d known, like about the odd man he’d help rescue and brought to the hospital (he still hadn’t heard from that fellow but from words gathered by his mom from the doctor, he’d left a good while after without trouble) and about how home and the rest of his family was doing. It was a wonderful time. But also… a little off feeling?
The blue-haired man couldn’t bring himself to bring it up; but there was something about the whole situation that was off for him. It was subtle, but his mother seemed to be a bit distracted? Or worried? Something was up and he had a bit of a hard time telling what. Maybe she was just thinking about what needed to be done next once they were done here. Eventually though the feeling became more than even he could bear.
'Mom, is something wrong?' He signed after finishing his last bite, taking the moment since there was a lull in conversation. The older woman perked up a bit in surprise, an uneasy look on her face briefly before it was concealed by a pleasant smile.
'No, why do you ask?' Sullivan narrowed a suspicious gaze. As good as his mother might’ve been at hiding emotions, it was pretty much second nature for him to get the truth from body language; it was practically a requirement to understanding others.
'What’s wrong? You can’t hide it you know. Not from me, I know better.' He prodded, though some regret followed at the sort of strained stress that briefly appeared. Was something up? Had something happened? Was someone in trouble? For a moment he felt like maybe the meal was an attempt to alleviate the news. It was a long moment of silence before his mother raised her hands to start signing, though it was abruptly halted as as shadow passed over the table. . .

The lack of hearing did nothing to hide the sudden change in atmosphere. Sullivan didn’t miss the shocked expression that appeared and then was swiftly hidden behind a stern look. The young man slowly craned his neck to look over his shoulder, eyes immediately narrowing in despisement at the sight that lingered just a few feet before.
Despite the fact that he’d seen him all what… maybe twice or so in his life, Sullivan recognized in an instant that imposing figure of a human being that he wished would get wiped off the planet. The man swiped a hand back through short curls of dark strawberry-blonde hair as he narrowed a look at the two at the table, a shady smile on his face.
What the ******** was he doing here?
Immediately Sullivan tensed and had it not been for his mother’s grip on his wrist, he might’ve jumped up into a defensive stance to stand off against the b*****d. Instead he just let out a harsh breath, flare evident as the man moved closer to the table, keeping his focus on his mother. He wasn’t even going to honor the man with even a side glance.
His mother wasn’t nearly as hostile (or hid it better), instead watching with a passive expression as the man roughly took a seat at the spare vacant chair (it hadn’t even occurred to Sullivan until that moment that it was there). The man looked between the pair with a semi-smug disposition.
”Laila,” the man gave Sullivan a leery look of disapproval, ”...boy.”
”Sawyer. You’re looking well.”' Was her response, though she didn’t hide the disapproving look at the way he addressed the young man.

At about this point, Sullivan was keeping track of the conversation solely by watching his mother’s responses. Lip reading was hard enough; doing so for only half the conversation was doubly hard, especially when it was clear the other was trying her best not to have to many reactions. Of course, it didn’t help that his mind was wandering in his own loathing thoughts.
He didn’t want to look at Sawyer, he didn’t even want to breathe the same damn air as him. Why was he here? Was this, yet again, some pathetic attempt to weasel back into their lives? The ******** did he want this time? Why didn’t he take the time to walk into some heavy traffic for once…
It was only because of the sudden jerk motion by Sawyer reaching towards his mother’s wrist that snapped him from his hostile thoughts. He let go of her grip and immediately slapped the hand away, spinning in his seat and glaring daggers. Try to touch again and get shafted.
The reaction didn’t go over well. He could tell Sawyer snarled at him for the act and said some less than tasteful things in response. Laila has immediately snatched onto Sullivan’s remaining wrist to reel him back in.
'Sully, don’t. Please, it’s not worth it.' The blue-haired man snapped a quick glare at the man before returning his attention to his mother, quickly beginning to openly sign back. He didn’t care that Sawyer could see; he knew damn well that the man would never bother to learn how to communicate with him. 'Why is he here anyways?'
'Sully. He’s here to talk-'
'About what? How you owe him or something? What’s he want now? You know he wants something!'
'It’s something I need you to do-'
' I need to do? He needs to take a hike, how about that-'
”You know, it’s really ********’ rude to talk about someone behind their back,” Sawyer snapped as he slapped a hand on Sullivan’s shoulder and jerked him around to look at him so he caught what he said, albeit only in context. He did snear a bit though, ”though I give you props for having the balls to do it right in front of my face. Damn shame you look stupid with that b***h-a** hand waving.”
”Sawyer-”
”What? Laila you really need to stop babying this thing. Nature has no time to wait for a some deaf invalid to become a man,” Sullivan slapped the hand of his shoulder and without hesitation, flipped the bird at Sawyer, much to his mother’s dismay. Sawyer wasn’t nearly as offended though, laughing and slapping the table. ”wow, so ballsy.” I suppose that hand flailing taught you that?” Sullivan’s face heated in anger as he semi-comprehended the insult, fist tightening. That gesture didn’t get past his biological father either and the man sneered, leaning forward in a taunting fashion.
”What are you going to do deafy? Fight? What, you haven’t figured out you’re no match for me?” He went into a laugh again, though it was cut short by a sucker punch that Sullivan threw in a fit. Honestly, Sawyer’s reaction time was a little surprising as he managed to knick at his jaw. Of course… that wasn’t the only problem-

He might have had a few inches in height on Sawyer, but his biological father had a few inches in muscle over him and that reigned superior in this short confrontation. It probably would’ve helped if he had been throwing a punch from a tactical point as opposed to in raw emotion but well…
.... maybe the near busting of his nose would serve as a reminder to do so in the future.
Before he could comprehend what had happened to him, the middle of Sullivan’s head exploded in stars and his momentum was promptly reversed against his will. He pretty much toppled out of his chair and slammed into the ground (it was a good thing it was sand and not concrete), hands flying to his face as he nearly choked on the involuntary yelp that followed. It felt like an eternity passed before he was able to figure out what was going on; through tears he could see the blurs of the two, his mother in a rage as he could make out from her body language her demands that Sawyer leave now. He didn’t miss the few words mouthed by the man nor the look of smug disgust before he finally left.
Sullivan felt someone gently tugging him up from the ground into a sitting position and found himself semi-face to face with his mother. Her rage was gone and had been replaced with stressed concern.
