Zak gave her a bit of a flat look at the ambiguous response. He frowned when she tried to be a bit more descriptive, bending one knee up to rest his arm in, while looking back to the water. Now he was kind of annoyed. For some reason, even more so when she tried to dismiss it. "Fine, vatever," he muttered moodily, reaching back for Meebus' pokeball. He wasn't sure why he was quite so upset -- or maybe he did, and he didn't want to admit it -- but he did have to admit that this didn't exactly feel much like a reward with her asking things of him like this. At this point, some part of him felt like just tossing some money down for the drinks and leaving, but... it was a small, impulsive, angsty little part. There was no way he could bring himself to do it.
Releasing Meebus, Zak looked away, not bothering to look at his pokemon as it appeared before them. Meebus blinked, looking between the two, before the little communicator statically attached to him buzzed out a translation. "You two are not making out?" Zak twitched, stiffened, and snapped his head away, actually blushing at the unexpected remark. "Meebus!" He hurled the pokeball at the pokemon, but Meebus simply ducked down and dodged it, still looking as neutral as ever. Zak grumbled and set his beer down -- a bit hard -- before getting up to go fetch the ball. "Apologies. It is nice to see you, Miss Fortune," he greeted instead, turning away from Zak as if some goal had been accomplished, and he could now properly greet her.

Scarlett took Zak's flat look. He could give her as many looks as he wanted, still didn't change that it was the truth of the matter. Even as she tried to explain, she ended coming up short and then dismissing the whole stupid idea. Surprisingly though, Zak relented, releasing the ghost. Scarlett straightened up immediately, staring at Zak in surprise, but then shifting her attention to Meebus who was apparently a yellow colored rotom with cute glasses. She grinned as he floated over in front of them, but before she got the chance to say anything, he commented that they weren't making out.
Stunned, Scarlett didn't do anything at first, but then started laughing hysterically as Zak actually blushed and hurled his pokeball at the ghost, yelling his name in an accusatory manner. It was funny, really. There was no way that Zak wasn't used to any sort of physical intimacy. She couldn't imagine that he wasn't, given their past back and forths, so the fact that he was blushing over a comment on kissing was hilarious, and adorable, really. "Red's a good color on you a stór, you should wear it more often, you look pretty cute like that~" She teased playfully. Meanwhile Meebus somehow was able to maintain a straight face the entire time, and then turned to greet her as Zak stood to retrieve his pokeball. "Heya Meets. I knew I liked ya for a reason~" She grinned, reaching her hands out towards the ghost to sort of... Cup them under where he hovered and bring him closer. "I didn't know rotom could talk. Is it the device on yer head that's doin' it?" She asked curiously.

Zak grumbled-slash-shouted a "Shut up," back at Scarlett for her comment, but disappeared down onto the beach to grab the pokeball. Meebus turned to Scarlett, nodding a bit in returned greeting. He did not especially respond to the compliment, he just looked at her, but his visage did flicker a bit. He shifted a bit as she reached out, allowing her to "touch" him, and moving closer. "Yes, it is," he replied, as Zak came trudging back with pokeball in hand, glaring at them as he took his seat, "Zak-hav built it for me.""Meebus...." Zak growled warningly. The rotom turned slightly in Scarlett's hands and looked at him blankly, before turning simply back to Scarlett. "My trainer built it for me," he 'corrected'.

Scarlett only snickered more as Zak growled at her to shut up. His irritation and embarrassment was priceless and she wished she'd asked for Meebus out sooner, but then again she probably wouldn't have gotten Zak to let him out if she had asked earlier. Heck, it was a minor miracle he'd let Meebus out now and she still wasn't sure how she'd convinced him to. Still, she was happy he did, greeting Meebus with his nickname. Scarlett noted the way he'd flickered slightly as she gave her compliment but dismissed it fairly quickly. After all, she had a rotom as well, the flickering seemed to be something they just.... DId. Maybe. She didn't really know. It seemed like a natural think that electric ghost plasma would do somehow.
Really, she was just grateful he allowed her to "hold" him and get a better look, noting the communicator that allowed him to speak. It seemed she'd correctly identified it too, smiling as Meebus affirmed her guess and explaining that Zak had made it for him, though using his name earned a warning from Zak. "It's not like I daen't know yer name by neu a stór. What's the issue with him saying it around me?" She pointed out. "Heh~ Why do you say his name like that anyways? You gotta know that's not how it's pronounced, right? Ya're putting too much emphasis on the second syllable." She pointed out with a laugh. "Or is that just how it's coming out of the translator?" She thought about offering to look into that, maybe have Cypher fix it. Glancing to Zak though, she reconsidered. He probably didn't want Meebus saying it right, and preferably not at all. Nor did he probably want her messing with his stuff.
Instead, Scarlett thought of another idea. "That reminds me... I've met a lot of your team, but I don't think you've seen much of mine." There was that one time he'd caught a glimpse of some she'd sent training, like Rave, Nala, Aero, and Mako training. Then of course there was Cypher, Koga, and Poseidon he'd seen the day they met, but she still had more. A lot more. "I actually have a lot of water types you haven't seen yet." She suggested. "Ya already know Mako and Poseidon, and I know you've seen Pearl my squirtle. She's now a mega blastoise though. Then I have Siren, my milotic, Ariel, my popplio, and Selkie, who's a vaporeon but.... Different I guess. She's got dark fur and a shark fin and sharp fangs. Maybe some weird hybrid of sharpedo and vaporeon. Then there's Phi, my Phione, and Delta my kabuto." Arceus she had a lot of pokemon that she needed to train.... One team at a time she supposed.

Zak scowled a bit when she pointed that out. He obviously wasn't happy at the reminder, but it seemed his anger was superficial, because he just broodingly picked up his beer and remained silent. Meebus stared at her at the question. A very looooong pause followed. "It is because of the translator," he replied simply, earning a side look from his trainer. It was hard to tell if the silence was for comedic effect.... or something else. Either way, Zak was eying the rotom, and in return, Meebus lifted himself up out of Scarlett's hands, and floated back a bit to get some distance.
Zak shifted his gaze to Scarlett, shrugging some at her observation. He frowned as she started listing her pokemon. "O..... kay....." he replied back, staring at her disapprovingly. Why did she... think he cared? He did not. Other than maybe for competitive purposes, but... no, not really. So he could better beat her in battle? Or... maybe she was trying to... share or something. He paused a bit and looked down at the thought. Conceding to the idea, he sighed some. "That's certainly more zan six," he observed, scratching his forehead a bit, "Who do you mostly use?" He was trying to entertain the conversation. For... whatever reason that she'd brought it up.

Scarlett recognized the mistake in reminding him of the reason he wasn't happy with Meebus in the first place, holding up her hands in a lazy surrender when he scowled at her, dropping the subject. Though, she watched with some amusement when he picked up his beer and began brooding instead, scooting close with a grin. "Alright alright, I'm sorry." She insisted, leaning against him a bit. "How is it that ya're cute even when ya're irritated with me? I can't win. It's not fair..." She laughed. How many shots did she have again? She'd stopped keeping track. She'd just been taking the occasional shot as they talked and maybe on her second beer now but... That was probably too much, now that she was saying whatever came to mind. Still, even as much as she'd drank, it was easy to notice Meebus' long pause before answering her question. She wasn't sure what that was about, but she let the rotom have his distance and changed topics to her pokemon.
Zak didn't appear keen on the idea at first, staring at her as she listed her pokemon, but that didn't stop her from going on anyways until he conceded to the topic of conversation with a sigh. "Heh.... Yeah, I may have a problem. Too many pokemon. More than that. Those were just the water types." She snickered. Maybe her issue was just collection and hoarding in general. "Guess that's just a common theme with me," she gave Zak an appraising look, "see something I like, and I want to make it mine..." She mused, giving a hum of thought when he asked about which she used most. "So far, mostly Mako and Pearl, but I'll probably rotate eventually when they've gotten enough training." She suggested with a shrug. She.... Did really need to train Poseidon after all. She'd stolen him from the lab and that work needed to pay off.

Zak very nearly choked on his beer when she.... suddenly complimented him. He reached a hand up in case any spilled, and looked away, adamantly, trying very hard to act like he wasn't blushing. Luckily, his skin tone made it... a little harder to tell whether he was or not. (He was). He coughed a bit, shifting and pulling his legs up, resting his arms on his knees as he gave her just a look in response, and took another long, long drink from his beer. At this point, he might have to pretend there was more in there than he did, just so he had an excuse to not talk. Or...
He shifted some as she went on about her pokemon, absently fiddling with the bottle a bit, tapping it and swinging it in his hand. "Water types are? Zat's not surprising," he admitted, though he sounded like he was only half present in the conversation. Or like there was something else on his mind, that he was trying to get around to bringing up. It wasn't quite as distant as if he was distracted, but... his investment in the conversation was clearly minimal. He gave a drawn out scoff at her teasing comment, and quickly shoved the bottle back to his lips, grimacing a little when he found he'd finished it off. Fine. He set it down, and turned to her.
"Mishka." He waited till she turned to him. "Stop talking." It was a simple, but blunt request. It would have been incredible rude, had it not been for his hand slipping past her cheek to slide his fingers into her hair, and pull her into a kiss.

Scarlett couldn't help but snicker a bit as Zak nearly choked on his beer and didn't do a great job of hiding it. Arceus he was cute when he was so flustered... It was funny, he didn't seem like the type that was easily caught off guard, especially not by advances of interested company. It was interesting, to say the least. She eyed his stare as he made long sips of the last dregs of his beer and relented somewhat, changing topics to her water type pokemon, smiling as he commented that a water type theme for her wasn't surprising. There was a lot that wasn't surprising about her, and yet, there was also a lot that was. That was why she favored deception as an asset.
His distraction from the deceptively simple topic wasn't unfounded. It was... Amusing. The way he fiddled with his bottle, avoided eye contact to hide his blush. She hadn't expected it, but she liked it all the same. She prompted him just a little more, turning their simple conversation topic into another casual pass, earning her a scoff as Zak tried to drink from his beer again, only to find that he had none left. As she went about answering his question though, he interrupted her, and she glanced over curiously before he asked her to stop talking. She would have frowned, if not for the way he looked at her, the way his hands quickly brushed past her cheek and became tangled in her hair.
For a moment, the world stopped.
She was.... Surprised, and there was a tad bit of smug satisfaction in the back of her mind that he had caved first, kissed her first, but mostly... She was overcome with the desire to return it, and eagerly, as if this had been what she was craving the moment they'd met. Confirmation. Flirting was all well and good, but until it was backed by at least a little physicality, it just wasn't nearly as satisfying. She breathed him in, her hands running smoothly up his chest and onto his shoulders and neck, a bit of a sigh escaping her lips in relief. Finally... Her mess of emotions revolving around him were starting to make some sort of sense...

Zak deepened the kiss and pulled Scarlett in a bit closer. His brow was furrowed as they kissed, and his hand moved to firmly hold the back of her head, his fingers securely tangled into her hair. He was still.... irritatingly torn, internally conflicted as reactions, realizations, and impulses mixed together. Some part of him wanted very much, to almost an instinctive, primal level, to push her back, to lay her down and deepen the kiss. Another part.... felt this was wrong. Like any time he kissed a girl. And then, they didn't make sense at all. Scarlett had been enjoying this thoroughly. With someone as roguishly handsome and attractive as Zak, how could she not enjoy kissing him? She could feel his hold on her tighten, pulling her closer, kissing her passionately... Zak continued to evade Scarlett's gaze. He frowned more, though, and shifted back to put some more distance between them. He remained silent, letting her soak that in, while trying to search for words. There wasn't enough time in the world for him to get his thoughts together, though, and all too soon, she was prompting for an explanation. "Because.... you're different," he replied, his voice a low roll. He was quiet, shifting uncomfortably. "You're.... ze first girl I've ever vanted to kiss," he continued. He wasn't talking slow, despite the pauses. He seemed more bothered by his own confessions, than strugglign to get them out.
He moved, but turned to look at her, pulling one knee up again to rest his arm on. "Back at ze basketball court, in Castelia..." He trailed off a moment, looking at her, then letting his gaze shift to the side. "I vanted to kiss you then, too." Another pause. 'But.... I'm attracted to men." He looked at her again, before his expression fell into disappointed mild disgust, and he rolled his eyes up. "And your breasts are enormous. Zey're impossible to ignore," he complained, sounding the exact opposite of any teenage boy.

So... She was different... Scarlett could feel some of the numbing fog hanging over her start to ebb away as Zak explained, her hard stare relenting. She tore her gaze away and brought it to the ocean, feeling... Taken aback. What was she supposed to do with all of this? Much as she hated to admit it, she liked the fact that he wanted to kiss her. She liked the idea of being different, but... Part of her felt frustrated. This was a lot more emotional than she was expecting, and she didn't... Do well with that. She supposed she should be glad he was trying to be honest with her? Or at least seemed to be... For all she knew this could just be one giant ******** he was pulling on her just for knowing his name, but somehow she doubted that was the case. She was pretty good at calling out other people's BS and this.... Honestly this was as real as she'd ever seen Zak, and it was.... Terrifying. Not because she didn't feel like she couldn't trust anything else he'd said or done before (she didn't anyways) but because it made her...
Arceus, she didn't ask for this. She just wanted a good night. She hadn't wanted to get involved in some identity crisis or any other kind of emotional turmoil, especially not after what happened with Skye. Why was nothing ever just... Simple? She sighed, rubbing her forehead. "And wanting to kiss me is a problem, because ya're gay....?" She reiterated in a tone that sounded like she was trying–albeit reluctantly–to understand, even though she didn't. She didn't really see what the big deal was, but it was clearly sensitive and frustrating to him, and she wasn't about to piss him off by being dismissive of his feelings. Then he admitted how he'd wanted to kiss her back in Castelia too, on the basketball court, and she paused, feeling his eyes on her before he looked away again. "So that why ya were actin' off on my ship?" She asked quietly, though it was more of a statement than a question. "Acting off" was putting it lightly, but somehow she didn't think calling him a moody d**k here would earn her any brownie points. "I think.... I need anotha' drink." She chuckled mirthlessly. She wasn't quite drunk enough for this juuuust yet, and reached for the flask of scotch and her shot glass.
Again, he insisted he was attracted to men, clearly unable to accept how it was possible he could also be attracted to her. "Arceus, not you too..." Scarlett scoffed, rolling her eyes as Zak commented on her breasts. "I swear, you and Cy are ridiculous..." She clearly wasn't taking his comment personally, nor was she really offended by it, but it was annoying that he was complaining about her breasts now too. She was so used to them being an asset, not a hinderance. "They are not that big." She insisted, knocking back her shot of whiskey and grimacing. She could already feel how much she was going to regret this in the morning, but she didn't care. She needed alcohol right now, and maybe a drag from a cigarette. "...Look," she said after a moment of silence, "daen't take this the wrong way, but... Why is being attracted to me that much of a problem?" She asked seriously. "Ya prefer men an' I just happen to be an exception. So what? This stuff is never really all that black and white." She shrugged. Zak instinctively frowned. "Yes." He replied in such a short, stubborn way, it was almost childish. As if it were that simple. He knew it wasn't, though, and he looked off to the side. He was trying to think of a way to explain that wasn't... epically rude, or too crude. He glanced back at her, a little annoyed, though not so much with her or her question, when she asked about the ship. ".... I guess," he replied, before sighing and waving a hand through the air, "More or less, at any rate. I vas dealing wis some uzzer sings too." He honestly couldn't remember if that was true -- it probably wasn't -- but he didn't want to admit this had been bothering him for so long. He didn't really want to admit that it was bothering him at all, but.... he pretty much had to, at this point.
He gave a wry, grim smile at her 'joke', but just looked out at the ocean. Yeah. He didn't feel drunk enough either. He wasn't about to drink more, though. He was having a hard enough time keeping a clear head as it was. He deadpanned and gave her a bit of a side look at her response to his 'complaint', but rolled his eyes some as a final response. To his knowledge, Cy wasn't gay.... but maybe he was. Either way, it was different. Cyrus was just.... Cyrus. His problem was more... practical. He wasn't sure she was getting that, though, especially as she started speaking. He frowned, not harshly, more in preparation or confusion, given the way she began. His brow furrowed as she continued, though, and he looked away. She definitely wasn't catching on.
He kept his gaze turned away, under the pretense of thought, but closed his mouth and set his jaw after a moment. She really didn't get it.... It wasn't that he was attracted to men, but now he found her attractive and wanted to kiss her... It was that kissing her gave the distinct reminder that she wasn't a man. That he had to become physically aware that there was no physical attraction here. If he kissed a guy, put his hands on him and felt him, he wanted to draw him in, push things further. But.... even with Scarlett, where the initial desire was there, as soon as he he moved in close, as soon as they touched, the subconscious realization, and conscious reminder, numbed the passion.
At the same time... maybe she was right. Maybe this didn't need to be that complicated. He'd.... slept with girls before, after all. It hadn't been for romance -- hell, it hadn't even really been fun -- but he'd done it. He finally looked back at her, giving a wry smile, and choking down anything he'd thought about saying. "Da... Guess you're right," he remarked. He moved to stand up. "I need to stretch my legs. Care for a valk?" he offered, holding a hand out to help her up.

Scarlett knew there was something she still wasn't getting, that she wouldn't really, truly be able to understand since she'd never really experienced anything like it herself. That was partially what was so frustrating to her about this whole situation. She liked men, and she wasn't attracted to women, that had been her experience same as Zak's she supposed. If for whatever reason she did find herself attracted to another woman (anything was possible after all), she didn't see why it would be such a problem, but maybe there was more to it than that and Zak was just having difficulty explaining. That was why she was trying to understand, but her questions all sounded simple and stupid and didn't really get her answers. All they did was earn her curt responses from Zak, so eventually she gave up trying to understand for the time being, sighing and running a hand through her hair before electing to drink more instead.
After taking a small break to banter about her boobs and Scarlett got a few more drinks in, she attempted to give her two cents on the matter, but Zak only seemed.... Perplexed. Or maybe he was just lost in thought. Either way, he eventually agreed, at least verbally. Scarlett didn't push it though. She had just suggested he not worry too much about it after all, and he appeared to be taking that advice and trying to move on. Maybe that was best for now. Scarlett's mouth twitched up into a half smile that didn't reach her eyes, looking back out at the bay before letting her face fall back into a neutral expression. She didn't look over as he stood up, at least not until he addressed her directly, asking if she wanted to walk. She looked somewhat surprised by the offer, having thought he was just excusing himself to sort out his thoughts. "Oh.... Sure." She agreed quietly. There was something strangely vulnerable about her tone, but nevertheless, she took his hand when he offered it, standing and glancing back out at the bay. "A walk'd be nice..." She agreed, though the response was a little late. "Hey Meets, ya mind guardin' our-- Wait... Where'd Meets go?" She asked, glancing around and realizing only now that the rotom was nowhere to be found. "...Eh, guess our stuff won't really need guardin' anyhow." She suggested with a dismissive shrug. No one was there anyways, and it was a bit late for anyone to appear.

Zak's brow furrowed, just slightly, at Scarlett's tone. He didn't miss the oddness, but he wasn't really sure what to make of it. He was the one doing the confessing here. He was the one 'opening up', and sounding an awful lot like some moody teen in doing so. He studied her expression to try and figure out if there was anything to the change, but... nothing. Maybe it was just a random shift, or he was reading into it too much. He pulled her up, trying to ignore the bizarre half-impulse to draw her in closer. It felt like everything he felt, had some immediate, counter response. He wanted to kiss her-- but the thought of feeling her body against his was repulsive. He wanted to draw her in, wrap an arm around her-- same response. She was a girl, a woman, with a very womanly body. It was a problem.
But it didn't have to be.
While Scarlett mused over Meebus, Zak subtly snatched the bottle of scotch, letting her lead the way down to the beach. He followed along, almost directly behind, so that she'd have to turn more to look at him, and began downing the bottle. He finished just about.... nearly all of it, only a little left, and stuck it in the sand, before lengthening his stride to fall into line with her. He didn't want to get drunk -- some part of him, the part that didn't want this to all go terribly wrong, knew that he was a really, really bad drunk. But he needed to get pretty close. That whole... wanting a clear head, thing, was a long-gone desire. "I'm sure he's around. He'll make sure nusing gets stolen," he replied, albeit a bit late. He placed his hands in his pockets as he started walking the beach, before pausing to take off his shoes and socks. "... Ven's ze last time you vent swimming, Mishka?" he asked curiously. It didn't sound like a suggestion, so much as just a conversational query. He wasn't sure he was up for swimming, and/or all it might lead to. But, he was really struggling to think of... anything to say, at the moment.
