Of course, she did plan on visiting Kalos one day. her research would likely lead her there eventually. But for now, she wanted to focus on collecting the Zygarde cores and cells. With Hau'oli City quickly approaching, the white-haired woman smiled wide. Looking to Lithium who swiftly and gracefully followed along side her. "Why don't we stop at the Pokemon Center to refresh and recoup before heading to the Hau'oli Graveyard?" Lithium turned her gaze rather sharply, cocking a brow. "Graveyard? Whatever reason would you have to visit a graveyard?" She inquired. Looking rather.... confused. Eline patted her bag, with a firm smile. "Because of that incense stick we got. Doesn't it make sense to light up a ghost attracting incense in a graveyard? I would want to startle people by summoning a ton of ghosts into the city, especially when it's close to night time." She replied, gesturing up towards the sky. It was indeed sundown, Meaning the night was fast approaching. Lithium bobbed her head, she couldn't really disagree with that logic. She didn't mind ghosts either, being a dark-type she had a fine advantage over the nasty ghouls.

Route 3 was much more mountainous in comparison to Route 2. The dirt road became steeper and harder to walk up, though not impossible by any means. Elena cast a glance down to Egan's footwear, then at his whole outfit. He looked good, but dang he really didn't look dressed for outdoor travel whatsoever. She wondered if he had other more active clothing in his bag.
"Alright. So there are three paths here," she stated, gesturing to the road's three-way split ahead of them as they neared it. She was preparing to pull out the knowledge on the area that she'd researched prior to coming. "The one on the right is the fastest, but I'm... concerned you might hurt yourself walking up it in those shoes," Elena explained. It looked nearly vertical. Even Elena probably would have struggled to go up it. The white-haired girl started to move to the path on the far left instead. Hints of the ocean could be seen in the distance when one looked in that direction. "The path on the left is longer, but it's more of a gradual slope. Should be easier on both of our feet. Want to take this one?" Elena wasn't in a rush anyway, and taking the left path would give them a pretty view of the ocean as they walked along the road.

The moderate hill of Route 2 gaveway to the tower slope of Route 3, a daunting hike that seemed to lead to the peak of Melemele Island. Egan's eyes darted around the entrance of the route, looking for a Gondola Lift or even a bus stop, but neither popped into his field of vision. Elena confirmed his fears, pointing out that they were indeed going to hike up to the top, and presenting him with 3 paths of varying difficulty. When he'd packed for this move, he hadn't expected the terrain to be so different from Kanto; he hadn't expected it to be so mountainous or wild. Needless to say, he hadn't chosen the correct attire for any extreme forms of hiking, with his most comfortable shoes being the brown loafers that were currently on his feet.
"Yeah, let's take the longer path. I'm definitely not dressed for climbing rock faces," he commented, staring at the more extreme of the routes. Again, he found himself thinking about how picturesque this region was, but how much work was required to traverse it. As they began hiking up the scenic path Egan found himself wondering about what Elena did back home; she looked so slender, but she seemed to be having little trouble climbing the slope. At least not as much trouble as he was having.
"What did you do for fun back home?" He asked, pausing for a moment to admire the view of the sea from the cliffside. "Were you big into hiking?"

Elena nodded slightly seeing that her assumption was right. She patted her thigh, a common gesture she used to get Mabel to follow her close, and then began to walk along the left-most path with Egan. While it wasn't miserably steep, it still gave a nice workout to her legs that she could feel pretty instantly. She cast her gaze over to Egan as they both fell into a healthy hiking pace and he began to reinitiate normal conversation. However, his question gave her pause as she thought about it. "For fun..."
"Well, I liked watching Valerie, our town's gym leader, battle and put on her fashion shows. I even modeled in one of them once!" Elena proudly boasted that achievement. It was one of the happiest moments of her life, after all. "As for hiking... not really? I mean, the area I lived in was pretty hilly, but not really hiking status. There was a swamp nearby that I enjoyed exploring though! It's pretty spooky, but there's something nice about sitting up in the branches of the tall trees alone and being able to just relax or play music by yourself, ya know?" She realized that saying that she enjoyed exploring an eerie, boggy swamp aloud probably sounded weird to someone who had never done so, but she had grown up in that environment. It didn't feel gross or strange to her.
"I also recently picked up instant photography so I could put pictures into my scrapbook," she mentioned, remembering faintly how Egan had been taking pictures earlier. "Speaking of..." Elena's pace slowed slightly as she swung her bag around gently and gracefully pulled a compact instant camera from its confines. She paused her steps, allowing Egan and Mabel to be in front of her by a few steps, and then snapped a quick picture of them walking up the mountain with the ocean in the distance. She didn't need, nor did she really want, them to pose. It felt more real to have it not staged. After all, she took pictures to put into her scrapbook, so real was the goal.
Bird pokémon were starting to loom over their heads the further they made it up the rocky ledge. Elena carefully, yet slightly awkwardly, put away her camera and the photo once it had dried and then moved to catch up to Egan and Mabel. "What about you? What'd you do for fun?"

Egan wasn't particularly familiar with Valerie, but he wasn't surprised in the least when the Elena talked about enjoying fashion shows or the fact that she had done some modeling work. She definitely had the figure for it. He had never heard anyone brag about prancing through a swamp, however, let alone someone who looked as dainty as Elena. He suppressed a grin as he tried to imagine a younger version of the girl scampering through a bog, or up some great old tree. It was nice that they had a common interest in photography though. Egan felt his blood freeze in his veins and he stiffly turned around; he hadn't even noticed Elena falling behind him. He repressed the urge to rush over and yank the photo from the girl and tried to remove any trace of fear from his countenance; snatching the photo would just draw more attention to himself, not to mention angering his traveling companion. Instead, he would play it cool. "Did you get a good one?" He asked, trying to keep the conversation from stalling.
"As for what I do for fun," he began, "I like card magic. And pretty much anything I can do with my hands." To provide an example, Egan pulled the Game Corner token that he always kept with him from his breast pocket and rolled it along his knuckles, threading it between his fingers as it moved. He tossed the coin back and forth between his hands before tossing it up in the air, holding his breast pocket open with a finger, and catching the coin in the pocket. Egan gave a devilish grin and a bow, pleased with himself. "Hobby wise, I like photography, albeit with slightly bigger cameras. Oh, and playing cards. It's always fun hanging in a club with a glass of gin and beating some rich kids who'd bet daddy's money in cards."
Saying the last line aloud made Egan realize that he might sound a touch too much like a swindler or an alcoholic. It also brought his attention back to the fact that this Arceus forsaken path still seemed like it was going on forever. "Anyways, how much further do we have to go? Hiking was never really my strong suit."

Elena's attention became almost childishishly entranced by Egan's fingers as he demonstrated his ability to maneuver the coin he had in his pocket about. She procured a small set of tiny, almost silent claps as he caught it back in his pocket before bowing. It was easy to see that she was impressed by the act, and she was instantly curious about what other tricks he could perform. Perhaps she could ask him to show her more later? Regardless, Egan continued on shortly after finishing showing off and told her more of his hobbies, which collectively served to make him sound somewhat like a con man to herself. She resisted tightening her grip around her things and then realized how silly she was being. If he intended to steal from her he wouldn't admit so openly to such fishy activities for hobbies. It must just be her imagination connecting dots that weren't there. She felt ridiculous and, quite frankly, rude.
"Anyways, how much further do we have to go? Hiking was never really my strong suit."
"We're here, actually," Elena answered after a couple more steps. They reached a slightly flatter area, and she gestured to an open hole in the side of the mountain with vibrant green foliage sticking out of it. It was plenty big enough to walk through, although someone of Egan's size may have to crouch simply due to the overflowing green leaves that threatened to spill out of the sides of the small cave. Next to it stood a sign that told them Melemele Meadow was just through the opening, and describing it as "a paradise where the Oricorio dance". "Come on then." Elena gestured for Egan to follow as Mabel somewhat excitedly pressed forward to guide them through the opening.

Elena's reply of "we're here" was music to Egans ears. Frankly, he was tired of hiking, and while the cool ocean breeze felt nice, the heat was still opressive whenever the breeze died down. He eyed up the "entrance" to the meadow, judging whether or not the girl was trying to tease him or not; before them lay a cave that was practically dripping with vines and foliage. The place screamed I'm full of bugs and bats. Elena entered first, beckoning him to join her. Egan crouched and began to edge into the cave, pushing the brush aside, all the while praying nothing would drop on him.

The scent of the bright yellow flowers disappeared from the air as Elena and Egan stepped out of Melemele Meadow and got back onto the rocky path of Route 3. The smell of the ocean blew over the rocky mountain pass in its place. "Are you okay with seeing about staying at the pokémon center in town?" Elena questioned, suggesting the option she knew to be the safest and cleanest. Pokémon centers typically provided nice, standard bedrooms to trainers for free as long as you had a trainer's license on you. Plus, they would fix up and care for their pokémon as well. She waited for Egan's answer before carrying on in her planning for the rest of their evening.
"Did you see somewhere in town that caught your eye for food before, or do you just want to eat at the pokémon center?" Elena asked, casting a glance back to Egan slightly as they started to make their way back down the mountain's trail. She wasn't sure if he had a specific food place in mind already but she figured that she would leave their dinner choice up to him since she had chosen the location for lunch. Eating at the pokémon center would probably be the cheaper option, and although Elena wasn't terribly worried about money, she wasn't sure what Egan's financial situation was nor did she wish to pry. Set at a brisk pace Naomi was quick to begin to ascension up the mountain path of Route 3, leaving Route 2 behind, and his pokemon if they dared slow down. Of course... had he noticed that they were starting to greatly lag down, he would've altered his pace -- but no one on the team was in danger of being separated from the main group. Beyond the threat of accidentally abandoning his pokemon, nothing was going to make the teenager stop. Except for the egg that suddenly fell from the sky, directly in front of him.
By some miracle Naomi managed to catch it before it could hit the ground -- he could thank his close proximity and inability to initiate his fight-or-flight response -- though that didn't mean he didn't let loose a strangled noise as the egg settled into his grip. It took a second for him to identify the airdropped item, but once he had he tilted his head up to figure out just where it'd come from, and found himself staring up at the bottom side of a nest; nestled in the higher branches of one of the few trees that still populated the sidelines of the path he walked. "Oh." Well this was... troublesome, how was he going to get this back up there? "Don't bother. It's not an actual pokemon egg." Rotom informed as he floated lazily up to join his greenhorn, so this was what was holding them up? "It isn't?" He leaned in close to inspect the egg, in lieu of responding to Naomi, before he bobbed his head in mental confirmation and pulled away.
"Nope, it's an item -- a Lucky Egg -- some birdbrain must've mistaken it for an actual egg and put it in the nest," Rotom explained, before scoffing. "Hold onto it if you want, you can always use a bit more luck. You know, if you believe in that kind of stuff." Naomi lifted the item up to inspect with newfound interest, he'd never heard of such an item before, before he nodded his head. He opened his mouth, presumably to ask Rotom a question, but never got the chance as the sounds of battle suddenly became audible, and Rotom spoke up once more, "Anyway, you've got more pressing matters to attend." He tilted his head in the direction of Tomoe, who'd found herself in a battle with a Mankey and a Bagon.

As eager as Tomoe was, her upbeat attitude wasn't enough to prevent her from suffering from the consequences of having to participate in two consecutive battles. They left her body battered and bruised, but hadn't even come close to affecting her spirit, which was the most important thing, Naomi convinced himself as he treated Tomoe of her wounds; a broken spirit was something that could just be treated with a potion. "There you are! As good as--" He didn't even have the time to finish his sentence before Tomoe had zipped off again, in search of a battle. She didn't get far, however, as she was halted by a young woman, of all things.
She jerked her head back at the small fuzz, in the hopes of avoiding a soft collision with her face, but stared incredulously at Tomoe for several seconds after. "Ah! I am sorry about that!" Naomi called out an apology and jogged over to the woman, just in time to watch his pokemon fly off to explore the trail just ahead of them; beyond the intruding woman. He laughed gently, "I hope you can forgive Tomoe, she is just excited to battle." The woman turned her head to observe the Cutiefly and her energetic searching, then back to Naomi. Slowly, she straightened herself up and composed herself. "It's fine. I'm pretty excitable myself," she uttered... in monotone. Naomi blinked, but didn't question the woman. Instead he bowed, "Ah, I have forgotten my manners! My name is Shimi-- Naomi Shimizu." He needed to try and remember to introduce himself in the way the locals did.
The woman nodded her head, "Nice to meet you, Naomi. Call me Jackie," before she gave a glance around at Tomoe once more, though this time made certain to take into account his other pokemon as well. "If your pokemon is that eager for a battle... d'you think she'd mind taking on my team? I've been meaning to try and train my team while I'm on vacation." Naomi blinked, taken aback by the sudden request, before he clapped his hands together and broke out into a smile. "Yes! We both would be up to that!" Oh goodness, his first casual trainer battle, how exciting!

Though it surely wasn't the kind of battle that would've ended up on TV, Naomi was still left with a grin on his face; it'd been thrilling, for certain! "Thank you very much!" Keeping courteous, he thanked his former opponent as he went about healing his team, even though training Tomoe was a priority he still had an obligation to the rest of his team. Jackie, far from a sore loser, simply nodded her head as she did her best to hide the beginnings of a smile, "Not a problem. It was good experience for both of us." Mori grunted in direct response to the woman's comment, shaking his fur out to rid it of excess potion that weighed his fur down; speak for yourself...
Unsure of post-battle etiquette, Naomi shuffled in place, switching his attention from Jackie to the trail behind her, and then back to the trail when, from the corner of his eye, he saw movement. A man appeared, climbing down the trail, but stopped when he saw the two people before him. "Oh hey, fancy seeing you here." He directed the comment to Jackie, a sly smile on his face. She turned around, taking in the other male, before shrugging her shoulders. "Fancy indeed," she remarked, before turning around to look back at Naomi. "Naomi, Micah. Micah, Naomi," she introduced the two, and stepped back to give the two the chance to shake hands or, in Naomi's case, bow. "Naomi, battle my man Micah here. I'm sure you two could have fun."
Naomi raised an eyebrow at the impromptu battle suggestion, before looking to his pokemon for confirmation -- they were the ones who'd be putting forth the most effort, after all, and then Micah. When both parties agreed he put on a smile, before stepping back to give them room to battle. Well, here he went again!

For as long as I’ve lived there, it ain’t ever erupted even once,” she explained, shrugging slightly, ”I mean, I’m sure it probably did a long a** time ago, probably hundreds or thousands of years.” As far as she knew from speaking with the elders of the town, apparently Mt. Chimney had been relatively silent for quite a long time. Maybe it was just dormant or had gone completely inactive, save for when it would occasionally huff a metric ******** of smoke and ash into the atmosphere. That being said, it was possible that Mt. Chimney could erupt again sometime in the future, though it probably wouldn’t due to anytime soon. ”I mean, even if it did erupt at some point, ol’ lady Flore’s Absol would definitely pick up on it before it would even happen. So I doubt anyone would really be in danger anyhow,” Zoey added with a confident nod. Flore, who was apparently one of Lavaridge’s oldest residents, owned an Absol who certainly seemed like he was quite ancient, he probably had been around for almost as long as Flore herself or maybe even longer. He was… definitely far from the most friendly or approachable Pokemon she had ever met, very irritable and miserly in a very ‘grumpy old man’ sort of way. Most folks knew to keep their distance from old Abaddon, he was just a real nasty piece of work who was hardly nice to anyone outside of his owner and wouldn’t hesitate to snap and snarl at those who got too close to him. Zoey had certainly learned the hard way why people stay away from Abaddon when she’d still been relatively new to the neighborhood, she was lucky to have reacted in time to evade it otherwise he could’ve taken her arm clean off. She still had the small faint scars on her left forearm where the Absol’s teeth had grazed her.

We’ll be headin’ to Akala next after we fight the Kahuna here,” Zoey said, pulling up the map of Alola on her Xtransceiver and cycling it over to the next island, ”Akala has three Trial Cap’ns rather than just one, so we’ll definitely be spendin’ more time on the trials there than we did here.” Indicating a certain part of the map on the screen, she zoomed in on it a bit more to give a better idea of the general area. ”Next up on our island trial list is Lana, she specializes in Water-types and her trial grounds are in Brooklet Hill,” she continued, furrowing her brow in thought, ”So, it looks like I’ll need to focus on trainin’ up Storm n’ Viola primarily since they’re my main counters for her.” She supposed that she could start training them up now while they were still here on Melemele, as much as she wanted to wait until they reached Akala since there would surely be stronger Pokemon there for much more worthwhile training.”That would certainly be an idea, ja? Though I’m hopin’ that Akala would be a bit more worthwhile place to train, but maybe a bit here and there couldn’t hurt,” Zoey said, figuring it was probably best to not linger in any one place for too long.”That we could certainly do as well, you seem quite eager to keep pushing forward,”Orpheus conceded with a nod, it seemed like most of Zoey’s Pokemon were pretty strong already for the Pokemon here on Melemele. He could certainly understand her not wanting to waste too much time doing something that probably wouldn’t yield very much in terms of rewards.”In the end I suppose that we will do what me must to prepare for the next trial to overcome either way,”he concluded, he certainly wasn’t going to argue with her about it since she seemed to be quite insistent. ”Right, well Route One shouldn’t be too much further ahead,” Zoey spoke up, gesturing towards the path stretching miles ahead of them, ”Melemele is kinda weird in that the routes collectively loop all the way around the mountain and go back towards the start. Plus it’s the quickest way for us to get back to Iki Town and battle Hala from the Verdant Cavern.” The Zoroark gave a hum in contemplation, how strange for the roads of the island to be interconnected in such a way. Then again, looking at it from perspective, Melemele didn’t seem like a very large island in general, and perhaps having the roads go in a loop around the back of the mountain was done intentionally to cut down time for trialgoers. Suppose one couldn’t necessarily question ingenious design.
Zoey glanced back to the path ahead just as Eir and Coltrane, who were scouting out a good distance ahead of them, rounded a bend out of sight. ”Hey, don’t wander too far ahead, ya two!” she called out, picking up the pace a bit more to catch up with them, Orpheus following suit as he moved to keep pace with her. Upon hearing Coltrane’s frantic barks from around the corner, Zoey’s concern spiked further as she found herself almost sprinting to see what was going on. Rounding the bend with Orpheus at her side, the woman stopped short in her tracks as she took in the scene before her. Eir and Coltrane stood feet away from a rather unusual sight to see here on Melemele of all places, a lone Noivern who was cowering in an alcove between the large rocks in the middle of the path even though it looked like it could barely fit its whole body inside. Facing the Noivern were a pair of wild Pokemon, a Rufflet and a Cutiefly, that appeared to be trying to edge in closer to the larger Dragon-type. They were certainly aware of the presence of the trainer and her Pokemon nearby, but the Rufflet and Cutiefly seemed to mostly ignore them in spite of Coltrane’s barking in favor of focusing on the Noivern. The Dragon-type was clearly very scared and looked panicked, and even though it could probably easily beat both of the wild Pokemon in one fell swoop it didn’t seem to be doing that at all. Instead, it stayed put right where it was, hissing and sweeping a wing out at the two Pokemon trying to approach it to try and keep them at a distance.
Upon noticing Zoey and her Pokemon standing by, the Noivern glanced their way and made a shrill trilling noise in their direction. That certainly sounded like a call for help if she heard one! ”Quick, Eir, Ice Beam!” she shouted just as the Rufflet charged at the scared dragon with a Fury Attack ready. The Ninetales wasted no time leaping into action, taking a brief moment to triangulate the path of the Rufflet’s attack before letting loose a beam of pure ice energy in its direction. The beam caught the little bird Pokemon just in time before its strike could land on the Noivern, blowing it off and away hopefully for good. Finally seeming to realize the extent of the threat at hand, the Cutiefly turned to face them, buzzing angrily as it prepared an attack directed at the Ninetales. Unfortunately for it, it never got far before another blast of concentrated sheer cold energy smacked into it and knocked it clear away. With the threats taken care of, Zoey turned her attention towards the Noivern as she moved to approach it. ”Hey, are you alrig- Whoa!” her question was cut off midsentence when the dragon practically threw itself at her, nearly tackling her to the ground as it wrapped its wing arms around her in a shaky but relieved embrace.”She certainly seems quite happy that you helped her~”Orpheus spoke up, smiling warmly as he watched the display.
”Heh, no kiddin’,” the woman reciprocated with a soft chuckle, moving a hand to gently push the Noivern off of her so that she wasn’t at least being smothered in her, ”Hey, easy there, aight? Ya looked like ya were in a bit of a tight spot there, helpin’ ya is the least we could do.” The dragon seemed to get the message, pulling away from her to settle on the ground in front of her, peering curiously at her with wide, bright eyes. Orpheus had mentioned it being a ‘she’, he must’ve heard the Noivern speak when she had called them for help. Zoey couldn’t help but notice that this particular Noivern seemed to have a few bald spots within the thick white mane around her neck, and a pair of goggles hung around her neck that didn’t seem like anything she would have if she was truly a wild Pokemon. ”If ya don’t mind me askin’, what are ya even doin’ here? Ya definitely look like ya don’t belong around these parts…” there was still the question of how and why a Noivern of all things had ended up here on Melemele, ”Do ya… have a trainer?” A saddened look crossed the dragon’s face as she warbled lowly, Orpheus listening intently as he translated her speech for Zoey.”She says she does not have a trainer right now, but she used to,”he explained, frowning as the Noivern seemed to launch into an explanation with a series of growls, warbles, and soft clicks,”She says that her trainer suddenly disappeared one day, and she doesn’t know where they are or what might have happened to them. So she went off on her own to try and find them, but she had no idea of where she was going. She got caught up in a storm somewhere along the way and ended up here, and she is very unsure of where she even is or where to go from here. ”
That would certainly explain it… Her trainer was gone and she was left all alone, wandering the world on her own in hopes of finding the one she lost and yet not even knowing where to go. Poor thing… ”Well, if ya really don’t have anywhere else to go and ya have no trainer, I’d be more than happy to take ya in if yer willin’ to come along,” she offered, figuring that it was only kind to offer to take in a wayward Pokemon who was lost and had no one else to turn to. The Noivern seemed to perk up, her eyes sparkling hopefully as she dipped her head expectantly.”R-Really, y-you would? P-Please take me with you!”the Noivern chirruped, her tail nervously thumping against the ground,”I-I’m hopelessly lost and I d-don’t know where I’m going or w-what I’m doing… I d-don’t even know where I am… I… I n-need guidance, desperately!”Zoey felt that tug at her heartstrings as Orpheus translated the Dragon-type’s words, offering a small smile as she reached out to her, keeping her hand steady since it seemed that this Noivern could spook pretty easily. The dragon leaned in close without hesitation, connecting her head with Zoey’s hand as she purred softly in contentment. ”Well, I certainly wouldn’t turn away a Pokemon who really needs help, so yer more than welcome to join up with us~” Zoey said with a warm smile, slowly pulling her hand away and reaching for her bag to pull out a Pokeball.
”O-Oh! I already h-have my own P-Pokeball, I c-can give that to you instead,”the Noivern interjected quickly, darting over towards the alcove she had hidden herself in and reaching in a little further. Zoey blinked in surprise when the dragon pulled what looked like a modest sized mail crate, holding it carefully in her jaws as she brought it over. Leaning down, she carefully deposited the crate onto the ground, nudging it closer to the woman with a wing.”Some of my t-trainer’s things were left behind in this crate when she d-disappeared, along with s-some other things I-I thought would be useful and p-picked up along the way…”the Noivern explained, glancing expectantly between Zoey and the box at her feet,”I p-planned to g-give them back when I-I eventually found her… B-But all things c-considered I doubt I’ll s-see her again anytime soon, s-so you’re welcome to h-have what’s inside if you want. I’m sure it’ll b-be of some use to y-you.”The woman felt rather uncertain about this, especially if most of the things inside had belonged to this Noivern’s previous trainer. Still… she wasn’t going to deny free stuff, especially if no one else was going to really use it. Opening the crate, Zoey’s nose was immediately assaulted with the scent of berries and chocolate. Maybe this was why those wild Pokemon had been bullying the Noivern, they must’ve smelled the food inside the crate she was harboring and wanted to take some for themselves. Inside the box was a goddamn menagerie of items, a variety of berries, a cluster of Heal Balls, one each of a Heart Scale and Big Mushroom, a Rare Candy, a yellow plate item, a belt of some sort, a block of Charcoal, a package of chocolate hearts, a pair of TMs, and a small collection of THREE Lucky Eggs! Resting atop the whole pile was a single Pokeball, likely belonging to the Noivern from the looks of it. Picking it up, Zoey immediately noticed engraved lettering on the top half of it spelling out what looked like a name.
”Piper… That’s yer name, yeah?” she inquired, already knowing the answer but wanting to be sure on the off chance that this ball had belonged to a different Pokemon named Piper and the Noivern had just been using it as her own. The Noivern, who actually was Piper, immediately nodded to confirm that it was indeed her name. ”It’s pretty nice, I like it. I hope ye’ll feel comfortable and at home with me n’ my team in the meantime, Piper. At least until we might stumble across yer old trainer.” As much as she didn’t want to get the Noivern’s hopes up, there was always a chance that they could somehow find her old trainer somewhere along the way. The chances were probably pretty goddamn slim to ******** none, but that wasn’t to say that it was entirely impossible.】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【Zoey could see the somewhat doubtful expression that crossed Piper’s face at her reassuring words, though she couldn’t blame the Dragon-type. The poor Noivern seemed to have traveled far and wide in search of her old trainer and hadn’t had any luck finding her so far; she seemed quite torn on either trying to continue searching for her trainer or just giving up… Clearly Piper didn’t want to just give up on her search just like that, but with nothing solid to go on as far as a lead or directions she was quite lost and unsure of where to go on from here. ”Hey, just try not to worry ‘bout it too much, aight?” she added with a small smile, gently patting the Noivern’s head, ”Just stick with us for now and ye’ll be just fine. Probably better than bein’ utterly lost in a place yer not at all familiar with, yeah?” The Noivern’s doubt gave way to contemplation, then to a fairly pleased look as she trilled softly and nuzzled into Zoey’s hand.”I can assure you will fit in quite well with the rest of our ensemble here, so I have no doubts you shall make friends aplenty~ I am Orpheus, and I am sure the two of us will get along just fine together,”Orpheus chipped in, grinning as he gave a flourish with cane in hand,”A Flying-type is also quite a welcome asset for the team as well, ja?”The Zoroark certainly had a point there, Zoey couldn’t help but wonder how she had gone for so long without having a Pokemon capable of flying in her crew. Especially since they would hopefully get the HM for Fly from Kiawe after they bested Lana’s trial and trained up a bit more… Still, it was oddly quite convenient for them to find a Noivern of all things out here, still Zoey wasn’t going to look a gift Mudsdale in the mouth. Plus having a Flying-type to compliment Lukas, Eir, and Torgeir would definitely be helpful for when they eventually did Mallow’s trial in the Lush Jungle.
”It’t- It’s very n-nice to meet you, Piper!”Coltrane yipped cheerfully, smiling up at the Noivern and wagging his tail amiably,”I’m Coltrane, I hope we can be really good friendt- friends!”Piper gave a small smile in return, waving a wing at the Rockruff.”A-Ah… I really h-hope we can be good f-friends too, Coltrane,”she reciprocated kindly, turning and waving to the strange-looking Ninetales,”Oh! A-And, uh… thank you very m-much for saving me b-back there.”Piper hadn’t seen very many other Ninetales in her life, but this one certainly looked quite different from the others which threw her off quite a bit. This particular fox seemed to be an Ice-type, seeing as she was able to fire off that Ice Beam earlier so naturally and effortlessly. That was certainly not anything that the Ninetales Piper had seen were capable of, they were meant to be Fire-types after all! Eir puffed out her chest proudly at the Noivern’s words, offering a bright smile in return.”Oh it was nothing, really~ I’m Eir, by the way!”she chirped happily, waving her tails at their newly acquired Dragon-type comrade. As much as Piper wanted to ask about Eir and why she looked so different, Zoey quickly interjected.
”Much as I’d hate to cut the introductions n’ pleasantries short, we should really get goin’. Sun’s settin’ and we still have a bit of a ways to go before we hit Iki Town,” she said, gathering up the contents of the mail crate Piper had given her and placing them into her bag. The crate itself she’d just take along, they could dispose of it when they got back to Hau’oli. Once everything was tucked away into her pack, Zoey straightened herself up and gestured for her Pokemon to come along as they once again kept forging onwards. She flinched slightly when she felt an unexpected weight settle onto her shoulders, and glanced over to see Piper clinging onto her back like a kid being given a piggyback ride by their mom.”S-Sorry… I just feel m-more comfortable like th-this,”she murmured as she nestled her head into Zoey’s hair. The woman chuckled softly as she listened to Orpheus’s translation, not really minding Piper’s clinginess all that much. Given that she didn’t know Alola all that well, the Noivern probably didn’t want to accidentally wander off on her own while flying and be unable to find her way back. A warm smile on her lips, Zoey gave the Noivern a couple of reassuring pats on the wing to let her know that it was all good as they kept walking along the mountainous path.
As they passed by a large cave opening in the side of the mountain, Zoey only spared it a brief glance before passing it by. Although she really wanted to train Viola up some more while they were here on Melemele, unfortunately the meadow itself held mainly Bug-types and the Pom-Pom Oricorios which were Flying/Electric, probably not the most ideal environment to be training a Grass-type of all things. If anything, they could probably focus on getting to Brooklet Hill and do most of their training there before taking on Lana and her trial. Coltrane sniffed at the air wafting out from the cavern, and already he could feel his nose starting to itch from the faint traces of pollen the breeze carried out from the meadow. Good thing they weren’t going in there, his pollen allergy would’ve been flaring up like crazy the entire time and that was hardly anything he wanted to have to deal with. By the time they approached the wooden bridge breaching the gap between the end of Route 3 and the beginning of Route 1 from here, the sun was already starting to set in the distance.
Bright red, gold, and orange skies were reflected in the crystal blue seas below on the horizon, the rays of the setting sun dancing along the large waterfall running down the mountainside just beyond the bridge and crashing on the rocks many yards below. A rainbow formed within the mist around the falls, bright and vivid and adding a kind of cheerful serenity to the scene while a couple of nearby tourists snapped photos on the cliff.”Stunning, absolutely breathtaking,”Orpheus admired with a wide grin on his face, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells all around them,”Alola has yet to really disappoint me when it comes to the scenery. If only I had brought a camera or something to capture such beautiful moments with~”Zoey chuckled softly, almost envious of Orpheus’s awe and wonder when it came to the picturesque sights of Alola. As someone who had grown up in the region for many years, hardly anything here really surprised Zoey anymore as she had already seen most of what the islands had to offer many times before. Still, she supposed that it was just as refreshing to be back once again after having been away for so long. It reminded her just how much she had missed everything about Alola in general, from the lush greenery to the crystal clear ocean water that was absolutely perfect for surfing. ”Well if ya think that’s pretty neat, wait ‘til we really get into the heart of Akala,” she suggested with a grin, gesturing in the general direction of Hau’oli, ”And that’s not even countin’ what we’ll see on the other islands too~” Orpheus seemed to perk up at that, clearly quite excited for the long journey that lay ahead of them.”Well well, I shall be looking forward to what we stumble upon next in our travels! Alola is proving to be quite the experience so far, even if we are only on the first island,”he remarked with a light laugh, turning his attention towards the wooden bridge that now lay before them.
Coltrane eyed the bridge nervously, it certainly seemed pretty well constructed from the looks of it… But he could see quite a few clearly visible gaps between the planks making up the crosswalk, probably not enough to really pose much of a danger if one happened to accidentally step in one and lodge their foot in it but it was still of some concern.”The bridge seems sturdy and stable enough to hold up quite well if we all cross at once, even though it looks like it has been some time since it has had any maintenance done,”Orpheus hummed, noting the Rockruff’s slight unease as he surveyed the wooden structure,”What would you suggest, Fraulein?”Zoey’s brow furrowed in thought, while the bridge was surely strong enough to hold up in spite of the faults that were already showing up… maybe it was better to be safe rather than sorry.
”I think we’ll just cross over in groups at a time, just to be on the safe side. Eir and Coltrane, both of ya can go together first,” she suggested, gesturing across towards the grassy sloping path on the other side leading to Route 1, ”Then I suppose it’ll be myself, Orpheus, and Piper.” Coltrane flinched, backing up a bit away from the bridge and shaking his head.”D-Do I really have to be one of the firt- first ones to go?”he asked uncertainly, tail lowered slightly,”I really don’t like this… It s-seems dangerous!”In spite of Coltrane’s protests, Eir padded her way over towards the bridge until she stood next to him. She offered a kind smile, protectively curling a tail around him.”I’m sure it’ll be just fine~ But if you’re really that nervous, just hold onto my tail and stay close to me,”she reassured gently,”Close your eyes if you have to, just don’t look down, alright?”The Rockruff frowned as he nervously looked between the bridge, Eir, and his trainer, but sighed softly as he conceded. There was clearly no other way to go around here aside from across the bridge, unless they wanted to backtrack all the way back around the way they’d come. Reluctantly, Coltrane gently took hold of Eir’s tail in his mouth, following along with the Alolan Ninetales as they crossed the bridge together. The Rockruff kept his gaze ahead, trying his best to not look down below them in spite of sparing a brief downward glance to make sure he didn’t trip over a gap as he anxiously pressed close to his teammate.
Despite his worries, Coltrane and Eir made it across the bridge without issue, and it didn’t take long for Zoey and the others to catch up when they crossed over as well. Making their way down the hill path towards Route 1, the woman sighed softly as she could feel her legs started to ache from fatigue. They had spent much of the day walking from place to place with very few breaks in between, after all. She was feeling a bit hungry too now that she thought about it… A malasada sounded great right about now, but the closest shop was in Hau’oli, quite a bit more walking distance from here. Good thing she had stocked up on snacks before leaving Lavaridge, and she had snagged some leftovers in a doggie bag from the ship’s buffet on the way to Alola. Perhaps they could afford to take a small break to rest and refuel before they continued towards Iki Town from here.】☆ ☆
