A path that leads to the northern part of Melemele Island. It's famous for being a training ground for the local trainers.

Freddy marched with great purpose into Route 2 once more, already different to when he had entered Route 1. Freddy had since caught a number of Pokemon and had become friends with two new foreign trainers Kent and Hayes. So much had already changed just moving from one Route to another. Freddy was practically shaking with anticipation for what the transition between Route 2 and 3 held for him and his new friends. Route 2 would take Freddy and friends around the edge of Melemele Island, it wasn't as field based as Route 1, but still had it's patches. It would eventually lead up to a mountainous region in Route 3.
Just as they had left Hau'Oli City, Kent mentioned the prospect of releasing all of their Pokemon out for each other to see. It would be good for everyone to see what everyone else used. Who knew what they would encounter on the Route. "Well, how about we introduce everyone to each other then? Meet the team!" Freddy threw all of his Pokeballs into the air. His Girafarig Cecil sprung out forth ahead of the pack, shortly followed by Owliver the Rowlet who flew down and took his usual spot atop Cecil's tail which did not seem to mind. Next up came the first Pokemon Freddy had encountered in the wild, Archie the Slowpoke who sauntered a few steps before collapsing onto his back and yawning loudly. Marty the Abra followed, walking and eventually sitting down, laying against Archie. Last but not least was Joules the Pichu who stayed close to Freddy, choosing to stand behind his right leg. "This is Cecil and Owliver, both of these and my starters you could say. Cecil was a gift for graduating from school and Owliver was given to me by Professor Kukui. I saved Archie here from those Team Skull grunts you ran into. Meanwhile Marty the Abra was the first Pokemon I caught in battle, shortly followed by Joules here" Freddy said, motioning towards Pichu at his leg, a smile as he mentioned the nickname.

Kent followed his new friends to Route 2, and instantly felt a new wave of excitement wash over him. Unlike the previous areas, Route 2 took them north and slowly started to slow upwards as it wrapped around the northern peak of the island. He could only imagine what kind of Pokemon lived around here. Not to mention the trial grounds were apparently pretty nearby, according to Freddy.
Freddy was the first to send out his team once they left the outskirts of Hau'oli City. His full team was a Giragarig, some grass owl Pokemon he hadn't seen before that his Pokedex revealed to be a Rowlet, a Slowpoke, an Abra, and a Pichu. he quickly explained how he had met all his Pokemon, as well as their nicknames. Kent let out a hearty laugh when he heard the name of the Pichu that was staying close to Freddy.
"Say hello everyone! Go Flash, Stretch, Herc, and Tweety!" He said, tossing three Pokeballs into the air.
The balls opened, shooting red light onto the ground that took the form of his Pokemon: Exeggutor, Heracross, and Skarmory. Heracross instantly walked towards Exeggutor and started playing with its lower tail-head while Skarmory groomed and preened itself. His shiny Pikachu then hopped off his shoulder and quickly hopped over towards the Pichu, interested in meeting his evolutionary line junior.
"Herc and Tweety here I caught a while back while I was still living in Johto. Figured they could use use a change of scenery."

As Hayes stepped onto Route 2, he took in the differences it had compared to everywhere else he'd been on the island so far and noted that it looked like it'd be taking them around the island... or at least as far as the looming peak. Freddy didn't waste any time in introducing his team, releasing all of them as soon as they'd left the city. A few he did recognize, namely the Pokemon local to Kanto, but the other two he needed to look up on his Pokedex - finding out that the one he'd first saw him with, back at the shack on the beach, was a Pokemon native to Johto and the second one was an Alolan Pokemon.
Kent was next, letting all of his team out after Freddy had finished his introductions and introduced the two Pokemon he'd withdrawn at the Center. While he did that the two groups of Pokemon mingled amongst themselves.
"Alright then, here's everyone." Hayes said as he unclipped a couple of Pokeballs to start, holding off on introducting them all together; it wasn't like he'd had them all for very long. He let Ditto and Goomy out first, surprised that they didn't stick together and instead seperated, the dragon making it's way over to a shaded spot and leaving its amorphous friend at his side where it stared (Hayes assumed) at the gooey Pokemon.
"Ditto's been with me ever since I was a kid in Kanto, and was actually the first Pokemon I'd caught-" Hayes explained, pausing as he wondered if the Ghost-type he'd grown up around would count before he continued. "-and Goomy over there was the first Pokemon I'd ever caught in Kalos." He finished, looking over at the dragon who hadn't left the shade. It didn't look like it was interested in being around Ditto at the moment, which was strange and had left the amorphous little blob alone. He recalled its attitude before he'd run into the wild Pokemon in the city and assumed it had something to do with that, which gave him an idea on how to continue with the introductions.

With the two Pokemon he'd brought along to Alola in the beginning out already, Hayes decided to bring out the two he'd caught after arriving on the island. He unclipped three Pokeballs and used two of them, releasing the Alola Grimer and Magnemite in front of him which caught Ditto's attention like he'd hoped it would. It inched toward the formerly wild Pokemon it had encountered earlier, and after a bit of hesitation it transformed into Grimer.
Hayes smiled as he watched the three Pokemon interact, the magnet-like Pokemon hovering around the other two as they mimicked each other's movements. It was nice that they were getting along, both for Ditto's sake if the dragon-type was upset with it and the new Pokemon. When it looked like they were all getting along and he didn't have to keep a watch on them, Hayes released the last Pokemon he had on him near where Goomy was in the shade. Scyther materialized and looked around inspecting it's surroundings as soon as it had, settling in near the sulking dragon who seemed to appreciate the company while it did.
"Grimer and Magnemite you already saw, Freddy, but Scyther there is from when I back to Kanto for a break after having been in Kalos for a while, where I met it at the safari." Hayes explained, looking over at the bug-type and catching it's eye. "I figured she'd like the weather here in Alola, so." He shrugged after he'd added the last little bit, figuring it explained why he had retrieved the Pokemon while at the Pokemon Center.

Freddy's hands sat ever ready on his hips as his friends unleashed their Pokemon to be introduced. Kent was the first and along with Flash and Stretch, who Freddy had already met, Kent also was the trainer of two Johto natives. Heracross was a mighty Pokemon armed with a large horn upon its head. The second was a Pokemon Freddy recognised well. He wandered over to the Skarmory and rubbed its beak with his hand. Skarmory were generally only ever found on the Route below Blackthorn City, leading towards New Bark Town. "These are some might strong Pokemon you've amassed here Kent. Suppose you would need some of them to get some of your shoots completed" Freddy remarked. He began to think about how far his team still had to come, looking down to see Flash interacting with Joules. Freddy knelt down and scratched both of the Pokemon behind the ears.

Next came Hayes who unleashed a variety of amorphous Pokemon. The first to arrive were a Ditto which due it's bizarre physiology Freddy was well aware of. The second was a Kalos native dragon. He also knew they were to be found in the Lush Jungle of Akala Island, but it was quite the rare sighting. Next came the two Pokemon Freddy had seen Hayes catch in Hau'Oli, the Magnemite and Alolan Grimer. The last was certainly unexpected and was the Pokemon Hayes had retrieved from the PC Storage, a Scyther. A mighty looking bug Pokemon, akin to Heracross but trading its mighty horn for a pair of razor sharp scythes. Teddy wandered over to the Ditto, who was busy exchanging devilish stares with the Goomy under the tree. Picking it up he smooshed it around in one of his hands, what he had believed was like stroking or petting for the amorphous Pokemon. "What an interesting set of Pokemon we have all become friends with. Such a fine range. I think this should be enough to take on the challenges to come" he stood up and turned, looking up at the Route ahead of them. "I suppose the only thing for us to do now is push forward."

Trying to ignore all his irritation, Adder stalked forward, heading past the tall grass and up the hill towards Route 2. Lady happily glided along behind him, with Litten cautiously, slowly lifting his head up a bit to unbury his nose from his fur. The air freshener didn't... totally cover the stench, but it did help, a bit. He shook himself a bit, eying Lady, while trotting along nervously behind Adder. He tried bristling his fur and heating up the air around him to see if that could kinda... burn off the smell, but... it didn't really work. He turned his head away, conceding defeat, but still trying to keep some distance. He'd.... he'd get used to it.... probably....

Hayes was next in the Pokemon team introduction order, and sent out a Ditto, Goomy, Scyther, Magnemite, and weird colored Grimer. At first Kent thought it was shiny, but then he remembered Freddy's explanation about how some Pokemon in Alola are different than their Kanto counterparts; their Kantoparts. Eitherway, Hayes had a ragtag team of Pokemon that seemed to match surprisingly well. Kent pulled out his camera and snapped a few photos of the various Pokemon playing and interacting.
"Skaaa~" He heard his Skarmory coo as Freddy stroked the polished steel feathers that were on its head.
Freddy then mentioned that Kent had gathered some pretty strong Pokemon and asking if they helped with his shoots. Kent chuckled and rubbed the back of his head, slightly embarrassed by the praise.
"Haha, yeah I guess I have. Herc would help me get through some of the more rough terrains, though he doesn't always listen to me... And Tweety is great for flying and as a light screen; those metal wings are amazing reflectors." Kent explained.
After making his rounds and interacting with a handful of the Pokemon, Freddy suggested pushing forward. Kent patted the trunk of his Exeggutor, looking around at his almost full team before nodding.
"Sounds like a plan!"

"How far off is the trial, anyway?" Hayes asked after Freddy had suggested pushing on and put Ditto down so it could go and morph into the oddly colored Grimer. It didn't look like Goomy was enjoying itself in the Alolan heat, though, so he returned it to it's Pokeball and decided he'd let it out somewhere else when he had the chance. He'd let the rest of the Pokemon enjoy being outside, though, watching as they slowly started to interact with the others; Magnemite floating over toward the gathering of electricity in Pichu and Pikachu while Scyther walked over toward Heracross and the Alolan Exeggutor that resembled the tree it had been standing under before.
Hayes started heading up the path after he'd asked the question, looking around a bit more at what the island held for them while the two Grimer mingled behind him while following. It was a pretty popular place, with a number of other trainers enjoying the warm weather - some were battling, others walking around like themselves, all giving the route a lively feel to it.
"And what's it actually... involve, I guess? Or do you know?" Hayes asked after a span, not recalling if they'd talked about that. He knew it was Freddy's first time attempting it too, so it could even be a surprise for all of them.

Freddy stood back and watched as all of the Pokemon interacted with one another, soon enough the upcoming trials came to light. Looking around the area he confirmed his suspicions. "The Trial shouldn't be too far from here. Just past the Pokemon Centre lies Verdant Cavern. That is where the Trial is held. he paused for a moment and then turned back to his friends, scratching the back of his head "That being said, I have no clue what we should expect. It's kept pretty hush hush on the island. All I know is the Captain of the Trial is named Ilima. He lives in Hau'Oli but I expect he'll be wandering around by the Trial Grounds" Freddy said, that was the only piece of information he had been given. "So I guess we should move up that way and see what we run into. Watch out for any wild Pokemon! I heard there are some that ambush you on this Route" Freddy said, after asking all of his Pokemon to say their temporary goodbyes, he returned his team back to his belt.

Kent punched his first into his other hand and nodded to himself several times after Freddy explained what else he knew about the trial; specifically how the Trial Captain was named Ilima and that it was held in the Verdant Cave just a little bit further down the Route.
"No one keeps Kenneth Briar from photographically documenting all the wonders this region has to offer." He declared with a grin before pulling out his team's Pokeballs. "C'mon guys, let's get going!"
Holding one Pokeball in his right hand and two in his left, Kent returned his Skarmory, Exeggutor, and Heracross to their Pokeballs and clipped them to his belt before holding an arm out for Pikachu. Flash had been playing with Freddy's Pichu and Hayes' Magnemite when its trainer called him, and after a quick electric goodbye, it hopped up onto Kent's arm and onto his shoulder. With his started returned to its usual spot, he put his hands on his waist and looked at Freddy. "Blaze that trail, Freddy."

It didn't look like Freddy knew much about the trial itself, but Hayes didn't mind. Part of the excitement of the challenge involved not knowing about it in the first place - it was something completely different than he was used to back home. Hayes smiled at the enthusiasm of the others, especially Kent's and his determination to get the pictures he wanted, as he watched them recall their Pokemon. With the two electric mice gone Magnemite floated back over toward him and then past, hovering above the pair of Grimer while Scyther continued to walk around for a time before he returned it to it's ball. He let the new additions to the team, and Ditto, stay outside for a bit longer as he watched them interact before eventually returning them as well. Hayes always had a thing for odd Pokemon, so running into a Magnemite and the different Grimer was a great start to the region as far as he was concerned.
"It's always the way with wild Pokemon, isn't it?" He chuckled at the comment about the Pokemon ambushing people on the Route, but followed along and stayed out of the grass as he walked all the same.

Adder stiffened and slowed as an odd expression contorted his features. He suddenly looked almost... scared? Worried? He froze up a bit. His expression seemed to shift as he apparently fought his own feelings, swallowing a bit. He... He was actually about to go battle Ilima... The reality of the situation hit him pretty hard, sinking in with cold realization, settling in the pit of his stomach. Of course, he knew his pokemon were strong, he was confident of them, that was why he was going in the first place, but... some small part of him was beginning to shake. Beginning to doubt the certainty of this plan. What if he lost? It... it would be humiliating to lose his first gym battle, especially when he was so certain he'd win.
Litten looked up curiously when he noticed his trainer shaking, a bit surprised to see Adder looking so torn. The kid had seemed such a... jerkconfident individual, from what he could tell... Maybe even a little too much so. The way he'd treated some of the other pokemon -- like Popplio -- made it a little hard for the fire cat to really feel bad for him, but... he was confused. And maybe a little worried.

Freddy strode forward with gusto into the Route, turning around to face his friends, he began walking backwards. "I've had Iilma can be quite eccentric. He likes to over accentuate sometimes. But then I've heard that about most of the Captains. Maybe it's a requirement as well as being of a certain age?" Freddy pondered. He waited for his friends to catch up with him only for him to let them past. Freddy looked down at his shoes and shouted over to his friends. "I'll catch you up. Just need to do up my shoe laces. Can't stumble on this journey!" He knelt down on one knee and went to tie up his shoe lace, only to remember he was wearing flip flops. Freddy had sworn off shoes that covered his toes since returning back from Johto. Why had he said that? He stood up to see his friends had disappeared, he turned to see if they were behind him, but he couldn't see a thing as a fog began to descend around him, was he still on Route 2?
