Fortunately for them, Wixon was ready to choose for them, already stepping up to throw down with the Trial Captain. Luca couldn't help but chuckle at the boldness of the newly-minted Marowak, settling in beside the former redhead as the battle commenced. "Fine with me. I don't think it should take too much time for us to do this."
And little time it did take, as Wixon made short work of Ilima's two pokemon. With far less bulk and no fear of backup, they both went down easy for Sylva's strong little Ghost-type. Luca didn't trail much farther behind either, allowing Izalith and Seath to take down their own share when the Captain was ready for Round Two.

Luca's battle against Ilima was just as quick as Wixons, and before they knew it the battle had ended. Sylva crossed her arms, looking upset as usual when Luca turned to her mentioning how it wasn't that quick. "Yea, but this is only the first one." She replied. It was obvious without having to battle that Luca's Pokemon were strong. Sylva herself... she had potential. Regardless, their time in the cave was done, finally. With both the trial and Captain defeated there was nothing more they needed of this place. It did mean they'd be heading back out into the heat of the outside but it was also onward to other islands for even more challenging battles. "You don't have to ask me twice." Sylva replied, turning on a heel towards the exit.

Azalea quirked an eyebrow when Alex compared her to Sable, and then proceeded to second-guess the thought immediately after. "Don't sweat it. There's a whole lotta me goin' on here. I got mad respect for anyone trying to pull this off, but maybe your friend ain't quite ready for it, ya dig?" She gestured to herself lazily with a hand. Speaking of being more like her, Az suggested that Alex let his pokemon do more of the work for him, but he made a fair argument. "That's true. You seem like a real talented kid." She smirked. Talented in being an airhead, maybe, but that's what she liked about him. "Maybe after you teach 'em enough, then they can take care of some stuff on their own." She nodded. That was what trainers were for right? Teaching their pokemon things?
As they walked into the cavern, Azalea glanced back curiously at Alex when he compared Alola to Kanto. "Yeah, I guess so." She hadn't really thought about it, or cared, but since he brought it up... "They're big on old traditions and history and crap like that." Of course, that seemed to bar any of her crew in team skull from participating or doing well in the island challenges, a gripe that many of them weren't afraid of saying out loud. As such, Azalea hadn't really wanted to waste her time with something said to be so difficult, and also she didn't want to lose any street cred by being successful, but...
She thought back to her research and the dimension shards. Given a choice between Team Skull and Team Void, she knew where her true allegiances lay. Team Skull had served its purpose, and there was the off chance they wouldn't even find out about this in the first place. What they didn't know wouldn't hurt them. "You got two options here, kiddo," Azalea said abruptly, giving Alex a sidelong glance. "Find and challenge the gym leader here, or--" A booming growl emitted from the back of the cavern, where a dark cave mouth opened up to the deepest area of the trial. "....You fight that thing." She said calmly, pointing to the cave once the sound had died down. "Alternatively, we can stay here and train a bit if you don't feel ready yet. As for me..." She took a deep breath and placed her hands by her mouth. "EY YO ILIMA?! YOU IN THIS b***h OR WHAT?!?!" She called out loudly with little regard for the disturbance it might cause.
After a few moments, the pinkette walked out from the cavern up above, looking perturbed and holding their hands gingerly by the ears. "Really.... What kind of an ill-mannered--? Oh." Ilima's normally soft demeanor narrowed into a look of suspicion and judgement at the sight of Azalea in her iconic thug-like attire. "Since when has Team Skull taken any interest in gym challenges?" Azalea simply shrugged. "Starting now, with me. You gonna come down here and fight me or what, candy cane?" Ilima gave a long suffering sigh and began making their way down with a Smeargle. "I suppose technically I can't refuse a challenge... Even if it's a rude one..." Azalea rolled her eyes and sent out Gloriosa. The fuzzball had been quite eager to fight in the past, and she was strong, but Azalea fed her a few rare candies just to be on the safe side. Glori happily munched on the candies at first, but then seemed to cough at the strange medicinal aftertaste that suddenly took over, looking mildly betrayed. Azalea ignored her in favor of standing and staring down Ilima. "Let's go."
With that, Ilima had the smeargle let loose a powerful ember attack. "Huh... Elemental moves?" Probably a good tactic, considering half of the trainers coming to this gym had their starter pokemon and few others. If she recalled correctly, Ilima also frequented some school or something lame like that. That might explain the tactic. "....Frustration." Gloriosa was enveloped in a malevolent energy, taking her anger out on the smeargle for the hard hit and knocking it out immediately. Ilima seemed shocked by her raw strength, but Azalea simply focused on healing Glori up in preparation for the Gumshoos that Ilima sent out next. "I-It appears I may have underestimated you.... But I don't plan on going easy on you. Gumshoos, let's go!" Ilima took an all too familiar stance, and Azalea watched blankly as they performed a Z-Move. ".....s**t." Her red eyes fell to Glori with something akin to disappointment. Maybe even sympathy, if she had any. Grabbing Alex, Azalea pulled him safely out of the way as the Gumshoos slammed into the danshen with the pure brute force of a Breakneck Blitz. The shockwave sent tremors across the cavern, causing a few loose rocks to fall dangerously, but ultimately nothing collapsed. "You know, I may just be some numbskull, but... Maybe ya shouldn't be pulling those kinds of moves in a cave? N'less you wanna bring the whole place down on top of us." Surprisingly, Gloriosa still had a bit of fight in her even after taking such a walloping. Azalea was pretty she had something more healing than a potion in here.... Soda? Yeah, that'd do the trick. She bottle fed the danshen some soda and backed off before the gumshoos came in for another attack, but this time, Glori was able to take it and retaliate with another Frustration to win.
