	Owliver jumped from Cecil's tail to his head, wings spread ready to open fire with another flurry of leaves. Cecil flared it's nostrils and dug it's front hooves into the ground, kicking up dust. Freddy himself was stood, arms open wide ready to tackle whatever emerged himself. Then they caught the first glimpse of their potential enemy. An old man in a dusty boiler suit, an old flat cap placed on his head, hiding his eyes. Everyone relaxed, not out of relief but confusion. Freddy scratched his head. "I have no idea who this is" he declared to his Pokemon. It was true. He had never seen this man in his life. The man looked up at Freddy and tipped the top of his cap up to reveal his tired sunken eyes. His mouth began to mouth as if to speak. Freddy leaned forward in anticipation. Was it possible that this man was also stuck in the cemetery like Freddy? A victim also? A Wild - Appeared! 	As sound escaped the old mans withered and dry lips, Freddy was sure that he had seen dust or a similar kind of substance expelled also. "murmurmur~~~" were the words that escaped the mans mouth. Freddy looked at Owliver and Cecil who appeared just as perplexed. Freddy leaned in closer. "I'm sorry I didn't catch that? Are you okay?" Freddy asked. The man looked up, the gaping black maws of his eyes sending shivers down Freddy's spine. He was the sure the man had eyes but the combination of all the lighting elements and hat made it look like he was empty. Once again he let our a muddy mumble of inconceivable words. Freddy shrugged and shook his head. The old mans scuffed and muddy work boots shuffled closer towards Freddy who also attempted to draw in closer. As he shuffled, the old man caught one of his boots on a rogue branch on the ground. Freddy watched for what felt like an eternity as the man fell to his knees. A Wild - Appeared! 	The wheezing old man tripped over the lone branch using his oversized work boots. Freddy instinctively went to grab his hand to catch him, but missed. The four of them all stayed in their positions for what seemed an eternity only to be broken by Cecil rubbing his nose against Freddy's back. Freddy shook himself back to attention and saw that the old man was on his knees, hands in the mud and submerged in the fog. Freddy squatted down to the old mans level. "Are you okay man? Took a bit of a tumble" Freddy asked. The old man lifted a crusty hand towards Freddy and bared a toothless smile. "Help an old man out from the ground my boy?" he wheezed. Freddy went to take the hand held out to him, only for a flurry of leaves to hit the old man, knocking him backwards and away from Freddy. The mirage dissipated to reveal another Pokemon. 	The old man disappeared quicker than he had appeared. Freddy assumed it might turn into some kind of elderly ghost based Pokemon, based on the example of Mrs Clark transforming into a Zubat. What it became however, was a Misdreavus. The small floating Pokemon gave a shrill shriek. "Miiiiiisdreavussss" it cried out, hovering higher into the sky and away from the fog. Freddy threw his glasses on. Misdreavus was a well known prankster. Maybe this was the ring leader? Freddy had read papers on the sphere around their necks that would absorb negative energy, specifically fear. Freddy pondered if that was the reason for his situation. Calling Owliver to his arm, he released Cecil into battle. He knew the best way to test his hypothesis was to catch the Pokemon and see if the fog lifted. It only took one Assurance attack to fell the Misdreavus, Freddy threw another Inspiration Ball. It shook several times before the light went off, confirming the capture. Freddy picked up the ball and looked to see that the fog was still surrounding the area. He began to walk towards the entrance, seeing if he would run into another ghost. A Wild Misdreavus Appeared! 	Freddy had caught the Misdreavus, but it appeared that the Pokemon was not the reason for Freddy's current predicament. Still, he looked forward to releasing her soon to test out some theories pertaining to the sphere around her neck. As he approached the entrance to the cemetery, he saw the fog begin to thicken. It appeared his earlier theory about being unable to leave until it had been solved was correct. Freddy popped his hands on his hips and looked up for the first time since appearing in the area. The sky was blanketed in a thicker fog than what was found on the ground. It looked similar to the sky just before it snowed heavily. "This place is bizarre" he muttered to himself, before turning back around. That was when he was once again joined by another person in the cemetery, this one however was quite different to what Freddy had come to expect. "Shall we just hurry up and get this over with then?" 	The first footsteps came from behind Freddy within the bushes, naturally causing him to turn around and face it. Freddy stood watching the space for a moment, only for nothing to appear. Then he heard another noise, this time from behind him again. It came from behind a wall. Small chunks of rock were pushed from the top of the wall as a skeletal hand appeared, clutching to the wall. Freddy shuffled back. Next, pulled up by another hand, a mass of hair elevated itself over the wall. Shaking and cracking its head faced forward sharply, revealing a pair of diamond like eyes, shining out towards Freddy. Please be a ghost, please be a ghost Freddy thought to himself as he shakily removed a Pokeball from his belt. The mass of hair pushed her hand out as though to stop him. "Stooooop~ I come as a messenger~" she whispered, her words gliding through the air as though it was the wind itself. Freddy relaxed slightly, thinking he had finally tracked down the one behind his current predicament. A Wild - Appeared! 	Freddy stared at the mass of hair looking perplexed as she attempted to crawl over the wall, dragging her long gothic lace dress over the stone. Freddy thought back to a film about a haunted video tape where a young girl crawled out a well. Freddy was quite the fan of horror films as they often contained a bizarre mystery reminiscent of those found around the world, much like the theory pertaining to Clefable's shadow. Eventually the girl had clambered over the wall and was stood ahead of Freddy, her shoulders slumped forward and arms hanging loosely at her side. Her long arm raised slowly to point at Freddy. "The Blackthorn Club for the Cryptically Minded sends its regards Frederick Chaucer" she said, her gliding voice enveloping Freddy. He recognised the name. It had been the name of the club he belonged to whilst at Blackthorn Preparatory School. But what was this girl doing here? A Wild - Appeared! 	Freddy was overcome with a variety of thoughts and memories, all set off by the mention of the Blackthorn Club for the Cryptically Minded. Memories of sitting in the club room out by the field, studying various books and debating theories. There had been five of them, including Freddy. Freddy had founded the group with one of his friends Young Boy Bones after they spotted a Legendary Pokemon flying over their school. Both of the boys imaginations had been captured that day and they set out to solve as many mysteries as they could. Freddy was snapped out of his nostalgic trip by a long finger being waggled in front of his face. He suddenly remembered the mess of hair standing ahead of him. She pulled back her arm and parted her hair to reveal a pair of sullen eyes, with the clearest blue iris. Her smile gave her the look of someone frantic. "What is it you want with me? Why have you brought me here?" Freddy asked. "It is the bosses wish that I defeat you in battle and show my worth. 	Freddy was somewhat relieved that his ordeal in Hau'Oli Cemetery had reached it's climax, but it was no time to relax. This was his first battle against a Pokemon Trainer. He had to push his personal thoughts about the Blackthorn Club from his mind. They both threw their respective Pokeballs into the air. Freddy released Owliver into battle. The small grass type owl settled on the ground ahead of Freddy. "Lucille lets forth her good friend Sandygast!" she declared as the Pokeball exploded into light, unleashing a pile of sand into battle. It was difficult to tell where the Pokemon was until it formed together and the small plastic spade that could be normally found embedded in it's head was seen spinning as ever. "Let's start things off with Leafage Owliver!" Freddy cried out, Owliver unleashing his usual flurry of leaves into the pile of sand, taking the attack head on. It groaned hauntingly as it dispersed back into a pile of sand. Freddy was surprised how quickly it was all over. "Sandygast! Return! That was just a warm up!" 	Freddy was shocked at how quickly the first round of his first trainer battle had come and gone. Freddy returned Owliver back to its ball and they both released their next match up. From within the fog, Freddy noticed a small warm light cutting through. What approached him was another ghost type, this time being the fire ghost Litwick who took on the form of a small candle. Freddy had chosen the right Pokemon for the job as the light of the Pokeball dispersed to show Archie rolling over onto his back. "Slooooooooooow~" he yawned. Freddy knelt down and positioned his Slowpoke onto all fours, patting him on the head. "This is a battle Archie. Need you to be at your best. Give that Litwick a Water Gun huh?" Freddy suggested. Archie's eyes narrowed immediately and let loose a surge of water from his mouth, blowing the small Litwick back into the hands of Lucille. Freddy's anxiety over battling earlier was beginning to ease. Hex Maniac Lucille sent out Litwick! 	Lucille returned her Litwick to it's ball. She seemed shaken, Freddy had been sweeping her team thus far. He imagined she had more ghost Pokemon in her arsenal so was ready for what was to come. Freddy released Owliver back into battle as Lucille brought out a Murkrow. "Looks like we're taking this to the skies then!" Freddy declared as Owlivers wings began to stir and push him into the sky. Murkrow followed and they made battle between the trees. Owliver's plan of attack was to knock the Murkrow out of the sky, so it barraged the crow with a series of tackle attacks, whilst the Murkrow began pecking systematically at Owliver. Freddy eventually had to put his glasses on as he struggled to see what was going on above the two trainers heads. Soon enough, Murkrow fell from the sky and to the ground, submerged in the fog. Owliver fluttered back down to ground level, visibly hurt by the encounter. Freddy returned him to his Pokeball for a rest. Hex Maniac Lucille sent out Murkrow! 	Murkrow was defeated, provided Lucille had a full team of six Pokemon, it would mean Freddy was half way through his first trainer battle.The anxiety of taking on the Trial Challenge was beginning to wane, as he prepared for the next round. Unleashing Archie into battle once more, the Pokemon seemed eager and ready to go, compared to his previous battle where he willingly showed his belly to the opponent. Lucille's next Pokemon was the Kanto Native Jynx. A psychic and ice type. She was really shaking things up. Archie blasted water at the Jynx who tried to push through it as best she could, whilst it still wounded her she managed to approach Slowpoke and picking him up under his arms, she pulled him close and licked him slowly, Archie visibly shaking as it happened. When she dropped him, it appeared that he had been paralysed with fright. Freddy cupped his hands around his mouth. "Come on Archie! Walk it off! Who of us haven't been attacked like that by an Aunt?" Freddy called out. Slowly Archie rolled back over and blasted the Jynx again with water to which this time, she could not stand for. 	Jynx fell backwards as it was enveloped in the light of it's Pokeball. Lucille did not have the demeanour of a particularly stable person, but now as she approached her last two Pokemon, she was truly shaken. "You're as strong as they said you would be. But I'm not done yet" Lucille whispered, producing her penultimate Pokemon. "Beee-frreeeee~" the butterfree called out, cutting through the fog with each beat of it's wings. Freddy called out his Rowlet Owliver once more into battle. "Not long now Owllie! Start things off with a peck attack!" Freddy told his partner. Owliver flew down and began pecking the Butterfree, who retaliated with a tackle attack, knocking Owliver back. Owliver attacked back its own tackle and beat the Butterfree. 	Now was the time. It came down to Lucille's last Pokemon whether Freddy would defeat her and escape his foggy prison. He looked down at Owliver who had settled on the ground, wheezing. He thought back to his team and how tired they were. Maybe it was time to debut a different Pokemon he had yet to use? Taking a Pokeball from his belt, both he and Lucille released their Pokemon in unison. Freddy chuckled as he saw their choices. Freddy had chosen the first Pokemon he had caught in the wild, his Abra named Marty. He sat next to a tombstone, seemingly asleep. Across from them both was Lucille's final Pokemon. The evolved form of Abra, Kadabra. Freddy was also excited to finally see one due to the theory concerning Abra being confident enough with their trainer to evolve. Clearly this was a different kind of Pokemon he was dealing with. Kadabra stared intensely at it's pre-evolved form sitting across. "You'll have to do better than an Abra to beat me!" Lucille chortled, it appeared she had finally snapped. Freddy pondered about potential moves, remembering Abra were known mainly for teleporting. Then he remembered briefly teaching it a new technique before embarking on their trip to Route 2. "Abra! Use Energy Ball!" Freddy yelled. Lucille looked at the two of them shocked as Abra stood up and began amassing a ball of energy between it's hands, drawing in energy from all around them, fog being pulled in and used as power. When it was ready it threw it forward into the Kadabra, who attempted to defend using it's spoons only for them to bend backwards from the pressure and hit it directly. 	Kadabra watched as his spoons bent out of shape and pelted him backwards into a nearby wall. As Lucille returned it to it's Pokeball, Freddy began to feel strange. Staggering backwards, he was helped up by Marty. Lucille hissed at Freddy "They said you would likely be strong, but not to this degree. We shall see how you fare against the rest of the Minior Star" she whispered as she began to glide backwards into the forest once more. Freddy regained his composure as she disappeared out of sight. But as she disappeared, as did the fog. It appeared that it was her Kadabra that had caused all of the mental distress and fog. There was potential that the fog was all in Freddy's head but he didn't dwell on it. Instead the name played on his mind. The Minior Star. What was it? Potentially who were they? How did this fit in with his time at Blackthorn Preparatory? Freddy was distracted from his thoughts as a shining light cut through the forest. Freddy felt immediately drawn to it.
