Iris took a deep breath as she made it to the arena. She had made it to the finals. She had battled Phoebe and Charmeleon, Jung-Su and Chimecho and Marco and Charmander. She was going to battle one more person and either end up winning the tournament or come in second place. Despite the desire to win the tournament, she would be also happy with second place. After all, she had done this well with Ling. Iris started to think back to the first battles she tried to have with Ling. Ling wanted nothing to do with them. She either would walk off the battle arena or just get angry and chase the other pokemon or trainer around. And now here she was with Ling at her side, getting ready for one of the biggest battles they will face. All she needed now was to know who her opponent was going to be. It was fifty-fifty shot that either Maria or Kirsi was going to be fighting against her and Ling. Meaning that the other one would be battling Marco for the third place spot.
Iris looked up from her thoughts to see Maria before her. That had to mean that she had made it through the semi-finals like she did. Her first friend she made when coming to this school and now she was coming to school. Now they were going to battle each other. That was getting her excited as she waved to Maria. "We made it huh?" Iris said as she grinned. "Good luck."
Maria wasn’t sure who she was fighting come the finals. Honestly Maria didn’t expect to be in the finals. It wasn’t that she didn’t have faith in Lillipup. She had faith in the pup. She just didn’t have faith in herself. Maria wasn’t one to handle pressure well. Though she tended to be more vocal when pressured, that didn’t exactly help during a fight. Looking to Lillipup she gave her a smile.“You can do this.”She told her with a smile. “Pup pup.” (You bet.) Lillipup barked back. Espurr looked at the two curiously. After seeing what they had done, the psychic type was sure that they could do it. Not that he was well versed in battling or anything.
Coming to her spot on the field, Maria noticed Iris across the way. They were roommates and Iris was the first friend she’d made while at school. Sure she had Silvano but Iris was definitely her first friend. Maria let Espurr and Lillipup down to the ground before giving her a wave. “Yeah, we sure did.” She replied back with a smile to her green haired friend. “Good luck to you to Iris.” She added brightly. It was anyone’s battle now. They’d come this far. Now they just needed to do their best like they’d done before. After all they beat Silvano and Zubat, they beat Koru and her Cyndaquil, and then they beat Kirsi and Chance. With all that hard work Maria could see Lillipup or her doing any less then their best.

Olivier entered the battlefield with a confident smile on his face. This was his true calling: Official Pokemon Battle Referee. If there was a battle happening then he would be there to judge the battle. This was an important job in a world where Pokemon Battles were so dominant. Olivier was happy to be part of this tournament and if Lamia District officials had not asked him then he surely would have walked up to them and asked to volunteer. He was here now and he would be performing his job with pride! The competitors had entered the battlefield meaning it was time to get this battle rolling.
"This battle is about to get underway! The competitors are summoning their Pokemon right now. A hot battle will soon commence so trainers get ready!" Olivier spoke with a clear voice into the mic that was on his ear. This allowed everyone in the stadium to listen to his voice. Once both trainer and pokemon were ready, Olivier raised his red and green flag in the air.
Maria wasn’t surprised that Iris was using Ling. With all the fire types people had it was a wise choice. Not to mention Bebe wasn’t battle material in the brunette’s mind. Not even the least bit battle material. Ling however looked like she could take it. Not that she wanted to hurt the Ducklett. That was hardly Maria’s intentions at all. Taking a breath she looked to Lillipup. “Just do you’re very best Lillipup. Win or lose you’re still number one to me.” She told the puppy Pokémon. Lillipup looked to be almost smiling at her when she raced to her spot on the field. “Pup!” She barked as she got into her battle ready stance.
Down on her front paws Lillipup was ready to rumble. Maria on the other had taken a quick moment to think. She recalled when Iris got the Ducklett. She’d even scanned her at some point. For breeding she decided to do some extra work. Though, Iris wasn’t in breeding with her she didn’t see why she couldn’t do some research. Ducklett’s had three abilities, all of them if she recalled prevented things from happening to it. What those things were Maria couldn’t remember, which meant defenses could be one of them. Since she didn’t know what ability Ling actually had or what any or what any of them did, she didn’t know if she wanted to risk trying Leer.
With all the thinking, Maria came to decide it wasn’t worth risking. “Lillipup let’s go! Start things off with Tackle!” She called out. “Pup!”Lillipup barked back before jumping into action. Running at full tilt towards Ling, the two hoped their speed outmatched hers.

The coin toss gave the first move to Maria and her lillipup. That was fine with Iris as that only meant now she could counter whatever Maria and her pokemon threw her way as well as Ling's way. Iris let Ling out of her pokeball before she took a look at Maria as Lillipup was out. But so was her Espurr. If that was the case then maybe Ling would want a cheerleader. Iris dug into her bag and pressed the button for Bebe's pokeball. The little Flabebe stretched out her arms before she looked at her surroundings. "Wanna watch the final battle. You can be a cheerleader." Bebe nodded her head. Iris smiled, this was going be a good battle.
Speaking of battles, Maria was ready to start theirs. Iris wondered what move she would be using. From her last battles,she had used Leer as an opening move. Honestly, Iris wanted to see Leer be used. She wanted to see how Ling would react to the move given her ability. Then again...Maria was in breeding class and there was that time she let Ling get scanned by Maria. Would Maria had remembered the possible abilities Ling had?
It seemed that Iris got her answer when Maria had Lilipup use tackle instead of Leer. No matter. "Ling brace for impact. Let Lillipup get close to you." Ling understood the request as the duck planted her webbed feet into the ground. Immediately she was hit with the tackle. She was moving back with the force of the move but she didn't fall over and Lilipup was very close to her. "Great job Ling. Now use Water Pulse." Iris said as Bebe cheered on her friend. Ling opened her bill and released a wave of water and swirling pulses at the Lilipup.

Maria watched as Iris let out Bebe. It seemed fair that both Lillipup and Ling had cheering partners. Though the brunette wouldn’t call Espurr a cheerleader, she was sure he didn’t mind being on the sidelines. If anything Espurr was just afraid for his normal type friend. Not that Maria could blame him, she worried for Lillipup too. Since the pup Pokémon only had close ranged attacks it didn’t make things easy, especially when it came to the worry department. However that wasn’t going to stop them from giving it their best shot.
As Lillipup raced toward Ling, Maria braced herself for whatever Iris would have planned for a counter attack. Being close ranged it wouldn’t be hard to do a brutal hit that couldn’t be dodged, unless by some miracle. Espurr held only his trainer’s leg as he watched curiously albeit nervously. Ling braced herself and managed to only get pushed back by Lillipup’s force. Not bad considering what usually happened when the pup’s tackles landed (at least in some instances).
Being in close proximity of Ling, Water Pulse was a definite danger. Maria had never seen the move in action before but now was a good time for it. Well honestly it wasn’t but it was something to learn from for sure. Though the attacked seemed hard to predict or dodge. “Lillipup, dash out of the way and use bite through the rest.”Maria called out. The pup Pokémon dashed to her left before dashing forward into the rest of the water coming at her. Mouth wide open as she bit down on the water breaking it apart, she barreled through to the Ducklett. “Now, Lillipup bite down on her.” She added, as if Lillipup needed that directive. Full speed the normal type dove at Ling before trying to bite down hard on one of the bird’s wings. She’d rather go for Ling’s neck but that would be completely unethical.

Iris watched how lillipup reacted to Ling's water pulse. She was surprised at how the Pokemon took the attack and then went through the other wave via a dash to get to Ling on the other side of the attack. "Get ready Ling." Iris said as she ready Ling for another tackle attack or even a different attack. Iris knew Lilipup had Bite, tackle and leer. So the fourth attack was a wild card for her. In a way, that engima gave Maria an upper hand in the battle. Thinking all this over...the battle was getting more exciting for Iris and hoped it was the same for Ling too.
"Watch out Ling!" Iris exclaimed when Maria called for Lilipup to use bite. Ling was trying to move away from the puppy Pokemon's teeth. Unfortunately, those teeth latched and dug itself into Ling's wing. Ling let out a sound of distress as she started to try to get Lilipup off of her wing. The teeth and slobber was getting on her feathers and down. Ling was using her other wing to swat at Lilipup who was not letting go. If anyone could speak Pokémon, Ling's words were not pretty.
"Ling, stop and focus on my voice." Iris said, "If you want Lilipup off you ,do it the right way. Use Water Pulse to get some distance between the two of you."
Ling stopped flailing about to listen to the words that Iris was telling her. It made sense, making the ducklett grin with malice before blasting Lilipup with a face full of water as it formed a wave and sound rings

Lillipup did a great job grabbing hold of Ling’s wing and holding on for dear life. Only problem was it left Maria and her wide open. If there was one time Maria wished Lillipup had of just let go it would have been now. Though, canine instinct seemed to overtake all logical thought. The flygon watched as her normal type got pelted in the head by Ling’s free wing. Hearing Iris words to her bird Pokémon, Maria knew they were in trouble. “Lillipup get out of there!”The brunette called out. However it was too late there was nothing else that could be done. The puppy Pokémon got blasted in the face with water pulse sending her flying across the field.
“Lillipup!” Maria shouted in worry as she covered her mouth. Dripping wet Lillipup tried to stand up. When she did the brunette could see exactly what was wrong. The pup’s feet wobbling around in… confusion… This wasn’t good, at all. Maria took a breath knowing she needed to remain calm if she planned on having any chance at all right now. They had been confused before and managed to get through it. Now was not the time to panic. “Lillipup, I need you to focus. Try to snap out of it… and use bite. This time I need you to let go okay.” She tried to explain. The pup shook her head from side to side trying to focus as best she could. Everything she was hearing was jumbled her only hope was to charge forward. Most her attacks required that anyways… Maria could do nothing but pray it would work out like it always had.

Iris was pleased at how Ling was not only able to hit Lilipup again with her water pulse attack, but from the way the Pokemon was swaying from side to side AND wobbling on her feet, confusion had also affected the Pokemon. This was the second time that she had seen her Pokemon’s move cause confusion. The first time being her battle with Jung-Su. She and Ling watched as the pokemon staggered from side to side as it stood up. Maybe it was bad but Iris was really wishing that the confusion would last more than a round. Last time, it lasted one round before the chingling snapped out of it. However, it wasn't without the benefit of it hitting itself in confusion instead of attacking. Not that Iris was happy with how distraught Jung looked as his Pokemon didn't seem to have control over their actions.
Iris watched Maria, waiting and wanting to see what the other girl would do with her Pokemon in such a state. Would freak out the same that Jung-su did or would she be able to keep herself together. Either way, Iris was ready for her next attack.
Iris' question was answered when Maria started to speak to her Lilipup. The Lilipup turned to her and started listen until it was sure of itself. It seemed as though Maria's words broken through the confusion. That was really something for Iris to see.
However, the time to admire the two was over as Maria had Lilipup charging at Ling with another bite attack. Iris had to think of something. The first thing that popped into her head was their previous approach.
"Ling... Just like before. Accept it and then send it back with Wing Attack!"
Ling heard the idea just at Lilipup sank her teeth into Ling's wing. The pup seem to let go of the wing but it was still in close quarters with Ling. The ducklett used the momentum of the release to swing her unbitten wing to stike Lilipup before the one released one came to strike Lilipup as well.
Maria was simply amazed that she was able to help Lillipup break through the confusion. With luck Lillipup ran straight for Ling. Her mind clearing as she closed the distance between herself and the bird type Pokémon. Biting down on Ling’s wing she followed Maria’s instructions and let go. Fighting every instinct she had in order to do so. If Maria could remain calm when she was confused, the normal type could certainly do as directed.
Whether it was Maria who snapped the puppy Pokémon out of the confusion or not didn’t matter, Lillipup was determined to give it her all. Nothing was going to stop her from proving herself. And nothing as going to stop Maria from giving it her all either. They were a team and neither planned on giving up. So when Iris was quick to call out a counter strategy, the brunette was just as quick to retaliate. “Lillipup dodge that counter.” She called. Lillipup was quick to move out of the way of Ling’s free wing. However, he speed wasn’t fast enough to dodge the one she had previously bitten.
Getting smacked Lillipup slid back. Shaking off the hit the normal type anchored her body to the spot. “Now hit Ling back with Tackle.” Maria called out her next command. “Pup!” Giving a bark back in understand, Lillipup quickly pushed off the ground. Moving at her fast speeds Lillipup charged full speed ahead. Maria knew that her small pup was growing tired. This battle was wearing on Lillipup like all the others did, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to take much more of this. She could only hope the normal type had enough left in the tank to finish it.

Iris watched as the first part of the wing attack was dodged before her other wing made the Lilipup slide back. There was some distance between them which helped Iris in looking at the battle as it was at the moment. Ling, even if she did not want to have being shown to her opponent, was getting tired. She was being stubborn as it was up to Iris as a trainer to see those signs in her pokemon. Looking at Lilipup, Iris could say that Maria was seeing the same symptoms in her normal type pokemon as well. Iris looked at Ling once more. Ling wanted to continue the battle. Otherwise, the ducklett would have just simply stopped battling or walked away. Something she had during her earliest battles in the fight club. If she wanted to continue the battle, who was Iris to stop her.
Maria called out the next move for Lilipup to use which was Tackle. "Ling, try to dodge it by keeping some space between you and Lilipup." Ling quacked a response. As soon as Lilipup would get near with a tackle, Ling would flap her wings to get lift and fly over the attack like a high jump in a video game. Running normally was not an option for her since her webbed didn't grant her the speed needed to evade the attack completely. Not to mention, her and Iris both knew they couldn't keep using lift to evade the tackle.
"Okay Ling...Stay your ground and then use Water Pulse." Iris said, really hoping that Ling could take the hit from the tackle. Ling heard it and braced herself for the charge as Lilipup ran into her with the tackle. As much as it hurt, Lilipup put herself in the best position... for Ling. Just like Deja vu, Ling released Water Pulse in front of Lilipup. The force of the attack should give them some space once more
Maria watched as Lillipup went head long into Ling. However, the bird Pokémon managed to leap over top of them. Lillipup wasn’t about to give up though. She could move faster than that bird any day. Even with wings, there was no way that her little legs couldn’t propel her fast enough at the flying type. Turning around she ran after Ling prepared to strike. Luckily for them Ling too was getting tired. Though the same held true for the pup, they weren’t giving up. Much like Ling they still had some fight left in them. This would be a fight till the end.
“Keep it up Lillipup!” Maria called to her normal type Pokémon. The small brown pup managed to slam into Ling. Though seemingly because she and Iris let her. The brunette Flygon and her puppy Pokémon would like to think it was because they were tiring out their opponent more so then anything else. It was up for debate, not that anyone was debating it. Maria knew the water pulse was coming this time and she was prepared for it. She just hoped that Lillipup had the speed to pull it off.

Pushing off the ground after her collision with Ling, Lillipup jumped into the air. Flying backwards, she put all her weight to her right side. Beginning to spin to the ground, she rolled out of the way getting hit by waves rather than the large orb of water in the center. Rolling along the ground the normal type shook off the water from Lings attack.“Nicely done Lillipup! Here goes, let’s give them one last Tackle.” Maria instructed. “Pup!” She barked back racing back at Ling for another impact. Everything she had left was going into this attack and hopefully it would pay off.

Despite how Lilipup dodged the center of water pulse, she was still hit by the waves of water but did not get confused. Bummer but it was not the end of world, nor this battle.
Both herself and Maria could feel that this battle was going towards its climax and it was still anyone's game. Iris wanted to think that compared to how Maria had battled before, Iris had the upper hand. Compared to the other battles, Maria hadn't used Leer and not of Lilipup's bites prevented her from attacking on her turn. However, Lilipup was able to snapped to snap out of confusion when Water pulse caused it. Ling and Lilipup had matched each other blow for blow this whole battle.
No matter the outcome, Iris was so proud and happy for Ling. More than this battle could express it. Now she had to get back to her battle.
Maria had called for another tackle attack against Ling. The jumping dogding would be her goto approach but that could be too much wasted energy that she could be using in an attack. With that in mean, Iris thought up what she considered a good idea.
"Ling, just like before... Take it and use Wing Attack when in close range." Iris said to her Pokémon.
Ling planted herself firm and ready as Lilipup attacked Ling with the move to her body. As Ling skidded on the ground, the ducklett brought her wings up and used the Wing Attack by first hitting them by Lilipup ears before going for shoulders.
The battle is over and the winner of the Lamia Little Cup Tournament is: Iris and her Ducklett, Ling!
This was an amazing battle with both combatants trying their best to come out on top. Lillipup's attacks were all physical with one attack having STAB. Meanwhile, Ducklett used both a physical and special attack and both attacks received STAB. This battle consisted of both pokemon just attacking therefore the judging had to be based on the power of the attacks that were used. Both Pokemon had decent defenses and good attack stats and since no stat was lowered or raised then their stats did not play a factor into the battle (not greatly). Looking at the attacks used, Lillipup's only reliable move was Tackle which received STAB; Bite was another move that it used, but it was mostly to try and get some Flinches (which did not happen). However, Ducklett's Wing Attack and Water Pulse were moves that received STAB therefore they were constantly dealing large amounts of damage to Lillipup.
In the end, Ducklett's STAB attack moves had more power that Lillipup's attacks. Therefore, the pup was overpowered and Ducklett managed to win this battle. Even though Maria and Lillipup lost, they won 2nd place which is still a great accomplishment so I want to congratulate both players ^^
