Omurtak had been wandering since his pride fell on hard times. The sickness had weakened them, and he'd seen good fighters fall in their fight of the invisible enemy. Some days he wondered if it had been better to die, but he chased away those thoughts. He'd rather die in battle, in a way that was more honorable than to waste away. When the pride was scattered by hunting two-leggers he started wandering, and he was yet to find a reason to stop.

Lately he had more of a purpose, however. Hunting to feed himself and the two birds that still followed him wasn't enough anymore. Lately he'd started to wonder about the only relative he had that might still be alive. His father. Omurtak knew very little about his father. When his mother went out in the roguelands to seek a strong male and bring in new blood to Burkuteshti, she knew that it meant she could never take another mate. Omurtak respected that decision.

The splotches of blue must have come from his father's side, even if his mother had never talked about how his father looked. She'd told him he was a skilled fighter, and that was more important than looks. He also knew his father's name "Narfi".

From his travels he now knew that it was probably a name of norse origins, and he'd been told of a warrior pride that favored such names. Most of the people he'd talked to had proceeded to warn him not to go there, but Omurtak wasn't one to back down from a potential fight. His plan was simple: Go there and ask for Narfi the warrior.

She had decided to go to the edge of the lands to be there for anyone who might want to challenge into the pride. She had been on her first viking and had earned her right to become a Reaver. All felt well. She still felt empowered. That and Curare had gained an unlikely ally in her loss against the blue Reaver Zjarri.

It was someone coming closer than made her go from her laying down position to a standing one. Was he coming to challenge if so she would be his challenger. Whatever was in store for them she'd take it. As well as pull her punches. No need to get as feisty as she did with Calder in her challenge. Or as rough as she had gotten with Zjarri.

"Welcome lion." The female said. "Are you ready for your challenge?"

Some lions approaching the border had done their homework and knew what it took to get in. Other's just managed to find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many a rogue had found themselves getting in against their will so to speak. It wasn't unheard of for lazy reavers to just troll the borders for unsuspecting travelers to take as thralls. Omurtak was blissfully unaware of all this, and had no idea what the green lioness was talking about.

"What challenge?" Omurtak asked, "I'm here to see Narfi the warrior. Please take me to him."

The small but muscular lion figured he might as well try to be polite since the lioness had been nice enough to welcome him. He had a good feeling about this!

"The Askorun is a rite of passage. If you win the Askorun, which is our challenge, then you can join us." If he wanted to join then he'd have to do it through the proper ways or get dragged back as a thrall. Bringing herself up to her full size she waited for him to attack. A fight was something she lived for even if she needed to pull her punches to not wound the other. Give him some bruises to share with others if he won.

Omurtak tilted his head as she ignored his request, despite him asking nicely. She rattled off a spiel that sounded rehearsed, and some of the words were unfamiliar to him. A challenge? What kind of challenge? But where he couldn't quite make sense of her words he could read her body language just fine. He came from a pride of warriors, and that was an invite to a fight if he had ever seen one.

"I have to fight you to pass?" he asked, just to make sure. "And then I can see Narfi the warrior?"

Now he had figured it out after she had gotten up and looked ready to fight him. Since he was ready she leaped at him. Her entire body going into this attack as she went to swipe his legs out from underneath him. If he wanted to see this Narfi he kept babbling on about he'd have to show her just how good of a fighter he really was. She would not want weaklings within the ranks of the Stormborn.

"Beat me and we'll see." She snarled as she kicked his legs out.

Omurtak might not stand very tall above the ground, but he fell hard when the lioness got a solid hit on his legs. She had an unfamiliar fighting style, but he knew he'd be able to adapt. Just as soon as he got some air back in his lungs, that was. Hopefully this wasn't a fight to the death, but he supposed he'd find out that too.

With a snarl he whipped one paw out to see if he could at least scratch her to keep her occupied while he got back in the fight.

Going to use the dice rolls as a guide for how well/badly he does on each attack. First one - fumble. LOL

She snarled and pulled her head back just in time to miss the attack. Well mostly, there were just the slightest of tugs on her nose as she felt his claw just barely n** it. It stung and made her blink in surprise but at least it wasn't anything major. His weak swing made her advance and attack him with her paws only to get nothing between the digits. She still had not unsheathed her claws but if he had wanted to that was fine. A few scars might actually make her look like a Stormborn. Though she was annoyed that he own attack had done nothing! Maybe he was just fast.

Well, this was stupid. They were just flailing at each other with neither of them hitting more than air, from what he could tell. Omurtak rolled and scrambled to his feet. He needed to get into the match after his pathetic start. His ribs were still sore from his fall, but if he'd had the habit of quitting as soon as something hurt a little he'd be dead many times around by now. The Qyrhyeshti didn't take any prisoners so you better keep fighting.

Omurtak circled the green female, trying to find an opening. He got nothing, so he decided he better try to force an opening. With a roar he jumped at her, front paws wide and claws out in a very unfriendly hug. He was a small lion and she was a decent sized lioness. So who would win a wrestling match? They'd soon find out...

DavyJnah
1-1, next 3-3

They collided with each other and she used her body to throw them to the ground. Their flailing had angered her to no end. As a warrior she did not like that the attack had gone no where. Now they were tousling on the ground. He had gotten a few good pushes on her within their little wrestling match and then she broke away from him, shoving hard to get by. Being that close at its advantages but it also had a few disadvantages and she wanted a few moments to be able to swing out if she needed.

Another growl emanated from Curare, "Is that the best you got?"

Omurtak felt embarrassed. Taking down this female shouldn't be impossible! After his initial failure he felt as if they were fairly evenly matched. His many moons in the roguelands had made him soft, and he missed being able to hone his skills with daily spars.

She broke away first, but that was probably a good thing. Omurtak was breathing heavily, sporting several cuts and bruises. He would need to decide soon if he should take this to the death or try to live to fight another day. However, he didn't think she fought to kill him. She had passed up several chances where she could have maimed him with fatal results. Be as it may, he had failed her test and there was no mistaking the disappointment in her eyes.

"I'm afraid so, for the time being," he admitted, "You have bested me."

Curare looked at the male and shook her head. He had failed to win his challenge and although she could take him as a thrall she wouldn't. "Scram." She growled, puffing herself up before turning back towards the pride lands. If he got in, she'd hope to see in inside and maybe do her own sort of challenge. For now, he'd have to take the blow to his pride. Whatever, she had won against a challenger and it felt good.
