Tera shielded her eyes from the sunlight when she came out of the dark corridor that lead straight to the center stadium of the battle arena. Even though it was her second time there, she still couldn't shake the hesitation she was feeling since she left the healing station. Nurse Joy had assured her that Flare was completely healed, but she had yet to really check on her due to the time it took to actually heal her. 'Please be okay...' With her eyes tightened shut and knelt down, practically curled into a ball, the overly worried girl released her Charmander out of her Pokeball. Flare who was obviously in top form, was a little more than confused at the sight of her trainer; the Charmander was so used to seeing so... not like that? The fire Pokemon couldn't put her finger on it, but something was definitely different about her, so she decided to do something to lift her spirit, something she saw her trainer do many times before. "Char!" Flare confidently cried to get her trainer's attention. When the girl had raised her head, a tiny redish-orange claw gently poked Tera's nose. Eyes widened and mouth agaped, the pink-haired girl had the most surprised look on his face. An action that was almost second nature to her, she certainly didn't think that she'd be in the receiving end of it. Tera couldn't help but let out a roaring laughter as she patted Flare's head. Not only did she worry Ava, but Flare as well! She was thankful that people around her cared about her, but she really felt that she needed to pay them back someway, somehow. Feeling rejuvenated once again(she really was a roller coaster of emotions this whole morning), she was emotionally ready... well as ready as she'll ever be at this point. "Pffft! Ahahaha! Let's show'em what we got Flare!--!" But who was this ''em'? Looking at the opponent's side, she finally realized who she was going to battle. "Ehhhhhh! Marco!? Who entered the tourney too!? Awesome!" She said with an exaggerated wave of her hands. It was one surprise after another! "Let's have a good battle, yeah?" She added while pumping one of her fists into the air.

Marco was dragging his feet in a similar fashion to his earlier battle. After being victorious, you would think that he would have gained some confidence. However, he was really worried about this next battle because he would be facing against someone special to him; Tera, his first real friend. The black-haired boy sighed and stopped once again near the entrance to the battlefield, how could he battle against her? He was really happy that she had won her battle and he wanted to cheer for her all the way to the end, but could he really do that when he was her next opponent? Wasn't this like betraying their friendship? Surely this went against the friend code, right? Marco passed his hands through his messy hair in frustration. The boy didn't realize -in his panic state- that he was overthinking the situation. Tera wasn't the type of person to discourage him from winning. In fact, she would likely cheer for him with a smile. Charmander watched his friend's inner struggle with some slight amusement; he was not aware that their next battle would be against Tera and his beloved Flare. The fire lizard might just be panicking himself if he knew that...
Murkrow decided to be the reasonable one and speed this process along. They were already taking too long to reach the battlefield and their opponents were likely waiting for them! The avian Pokemon flew in front of Marco and flapped his wings as if scolding the boy. "I...I know, but this is Tera! I don't want her to not like me..." Marco whispered the last part which was probably what weighted on him the most. He didn't want to lose Tera since she was his first friend so he was struggling with this battle. The trio eventually emerged into the battlefield which was already loud with the audience excited about the new Round. There were several others that would be participating in this round, but the numbers were shrinking with each round until only one person remained. After he won his battle against Faye, Marco really wanted to see how far he could go. However, after seeing his opponent for this round, he wasn't sure that he should aim to make it any higher. Maybe this was the end for him.
"H-Hi Tera," Marco responded weakly to her enthusiastic greeting. Tera seemed to be acting cheerful as usual. There was something slightly different about her, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Marco suddenly became very nervous because he wasn't sure how to respond to Tera. Upon seeing Flare, Charmander's eyes had turned to bright stars and he waved at female fire-type with lots of enthusiasm. He was thrilled to see her!

The first round had been a huge success and the audience witness some amazing battles taking place. Olivier was able to see the battle up close and he got to witness the excitement and thrills from each battle. With the winners declared, they would be moving to the next round and once again he would get to see the action up-close. Olivier entered the stage carrying his red and green flags in each hand as well as a smile on his lips.
"This battle is about to start! The competitors are summoning their Pokemon right now. A hot battle will soon commence so trainers get ready!" Olivier spoke with a clear voice into the mic that was on his ear. This allowed everyone in the stadium to listen to his voice. Once both trainer and pokemon were ready, Olivier raised his red and green flag in the air.
"Let the battle...begin!"

Flare had watched as the male Charmander enthusiastically waved at her, prompting her to wave back, albeit with less enthusiasm but she did not break eye contact. She still didn't quite understand why he'd get so energetic around her, but she grew used to it and felt comfortable with it now. When the referee had made his appearance to announce the official start of the battle, Tera continued to look at Marco as he greeted her, though he seemed to be troubled by something. Was he bad with crowds and being in the public eye like her sister was? Well, whatever it was, she couldn't shake this feeling of worry, but she had to do something first. "Yoroshiku onegashimasu!" She said this greeting of respect, a greeting that her mother had ingrained into her to say before any competitions at a young age, towards Marco and his Charmander while bowing at a forty-five degree angle. With this said and done, the pink-haired girl was ready to rumble!
"Hey ya betta not go easy on us Marco!" Tera said as she cupped her mouth to make her voice boom across the field for him to hear better. "Let's go Flare!" Without missing a beat, Flare jumped into the arena, ready and waiting for Tera's next command. "Les get the ball rollin' with a smokescreen attack! 'Member ta keep ya eyes peeled too!" Upon hearing the move being called out, the female Charmander's deeply took a breath in to then quickly blow out a thick black smoke from her mouth that would surround part of the arena.

The referee Olivier set the mood for the battle to begin. Marco would take small peeks are Tera, but never hold her gaze like he was trying to hide from her. Of course, he still wasn't sure about battling his friend since this had never happened before. He was nervous and it wasn't even about the battle anymore (even though he should be concentrating) and instead he was worried about how Tera would react. Charmander had been so thrilled about seeing Flare (he even got a nice reaction from her!) that he did not seem to realize that he would facing against her in just a couple of minutes. The orange lizard tried to look for his opponent, but he didn't see anybody except for Flare and her trainer Tera...Charmander's eyes widen and he broke into sweat; Flare was his opponent. The fire pokemon was suddenly extremely nervous, a perfect match with his black-haired friend, who was equally in a state of inner turmoil. Flare was special to him, how could he even consider laying a hand on his fiery angel? The thought was preposterous! Charmander started nibbling on his claws not sure about what to do.
The battle had not even started yet, but both trainer and pokemon were a mess! They were definitely not showing their best side to their female opponents whom each cared about greatly. Whether they were ready or not, Olivier started the battle which caused both Marco and Charmander to stumble back in unison, what should they do now? Tera and Flare looked calm compared to them and she was even smiling. The pink-haired girl then bowed at them, a deep bow which Marco was not sure what it meant. However, he naturally bowed back to her copying her movements, but not sure why he was doing it; maybe he just got lost in her flow. He was urged to not take it easy on them, but Marco just froze and didn't say anything. In his frozen state, Flare had used her first attack.
The field was covered in a thick smoke, a familiar sight, but this gave the young boy an idea! Charmander tried to cover his eyes as the smoke was released, but he was already under the affects of Smokescreen meaning his accuracy had decrease. The lizard looked back at Marco and both of them seemed to be thinking the same thing; make more smoke. "C-Charmander use Smokescreen!" he stuttered a little due to his mouth feeling dry, but also being nervous. The fire type copied Flare's attack as he opened his mouth and released more smoke into the field. With this attack, he didn't have to hurt Flare and hopefully it would help in immobilizing her while he figured out a way out of this battle without harming Flare. Charmander didn't want Marco to lose, but he didn't want Flare to dislike him! Marco didn't want Charmander to lose, but he also didn't want Tera to dislike him if his Pokemon hurt her Pokemon! Both trainer and Pokemon sighed in unison, what could they do?

The girls vigilantly watched as Marco's Charmander released some smoke of his own, hindering Flare's vision. Though she did try her best to track him through the smoke, she wasn't sure of his exact location anymore, just a vague idea. Looking back at the boy, Tera could still see that the troubled expression still hadn't left his features. Maybe she could help him out the way that Ava did? She didn't know what to say though, but she didn't want to try to help him. "Oooi Marco! Forget about the crowd! Jus focus on the battle! On me, Flare and your Charmander!" She shouted with her mouth cupped once again, still thinking that he was uncomfortable because of the crowd. She really had no clue...
Thinking about his move pool choices(she figured that his Charmander would have similar moves because their Pokemon were both the same species), she couldn't figure out what he was planning, but then again she herself didn't have much rhyme or reason to the moves she was telling Flare to do. All she knew was that fire moves weren't very effective against fire Pokemon and Charmander was a fire type so it wasn't a good idea to use Ember if she wanted to hit with a bang. "Les give'em another helpin' of smokescreen Flare!" The girl said as she pointed to an area without much of smoggy smoke. If what they wanted was a smoke filled arena, then that's what they were going to get! Flare looked back at the girl, unsure if this was the right choice, but when she saw the girl's unwavering expression, the Pokemon complied. Doing as she was told, the fire lizard Pokemon took in another puff of air to release more of the black smoke which clouded the battle arena even more and making it more difficult to see. Flare only hoped that Tera knew what she was doing...

Both Pokemon were feeling the effects of the Smokescreen making their vision blurry from the think blackness in the air. While this did necessary blinded the Pokemon, it was definitely something disturbing that they would have to deal with for the rest of the battle. Charmander a bit thankful that he couldn't see Flare all that well, but at the same time he was sad that he could not see his fiery beauty. Marco was still trying to avoid eye contact and only glanced at Tera from time to time. He was still curious about how she was taking this battle. They never talked about battling before, but hey they only became friends just yesterday! Marco sighed, not even sure what he was doing anymore and this worrying was definitely not helping things. He was hindering Charmander's chances at winning just because he was selfish and didn't want to upset his first friend. The boy needed some kind of sign, but he just wasn't getting anything.
Tera's voice caught his attention and her shouting forced him to look back at her. He was a bit confused about why she was mentioning a crowd until he realized that they were indeed in a tournament battle and that there were tons of people watching them. Marco looked around at the audience almost with an apology-look, this was probably not the most thrilling battle. Compared to his last battle, he was performing very poorly and it seemed like some people in the audience noticed this. The crowd wasn't as loud which made Marco feel all the more awkward. Not only did he have to deal with some friend crisis, but now he had the audience on his mind as well. He was not concentrating and was even starting to feel frustrated with himself. Tera said to focus on her, "I...I'll try," Marco glanced at the ground, he felt like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The battlefield was once again covered in more smoke as Tera instructed Flare to use Smokescreen again. Charmander stumbled back and cried out a bit from the smoke getting more into his eyes. He rubbed his eyes since it was really uncomfortable for him. Marco saw his Pokemon struggling and took a step forward. "Charmander be careful!" seeing his Pokemon friend struggling caused the black-haired boy to spring into action. "Jump into the air and use Dragon Rage!" Charmanded needed to leave this smoky field, but all directions were filled with the smoke except for one: up. Charmander, unable to see clearly, jumped into the air and prepared to use his attack. He opened his mouth charging the ball of energy until he finally released it. He shot the sphere at a random direction hoping to hit something.

It didn't seem like her attempt to soothe Marco's worries had been successful as he still seemed to be troubled. She felt sad seeing him look so uncomfortable, but she just didn't know what else to say and decided to leave it be. At times like these she wished that she could reassure people the way her parents did.
Tera's eyes widened, taken by surprise by the speed of the command, as Marco instructed his Charmander to initiate the first real attack of the battle. Just as she was about to tell Flare to dodge, her Charmander yelped in pain as the ball of dragon energy unexpectedly struck her square in face. Tera had thought that the smokescreen would help hide Flare, but be it because of the boys' careful planning or a stroke of good luck, Marco's Charmander was able to connect his attack.
Being in the thick of the smoke and judging from the angle of the attack, though she couldn't tell for sure, Flare could guess that the male Charmander had leaped high above to make this aerial blow which made her guess once again where he could be in all this smoke. "Flare!" She shouted, unsure about her Pokemon's status due to the smokescreen covering a lot of the field. Her Charmander quickly replied with a strong cry as she shook off the remnants of the dragon rage attack(not that Tera could see), so as not to worry the girl. If Flare had learned anything from the last battle, it was that Tera was quick to emotionally flip on a dime when it came to her Charmander's well-being. As much as the fire Pokemon appreciated her concerns, it wasn't exactly a good thing when it came to battles.
Relieved to hear her fire Pokemon's voice, she readily gave out another command. "Alrighty then! Les hit'em back with Air Cutter and move some of that smokescreen around!" Upon receiving the order, Flare began gathering a blue energy around her arms. Following what the male Charmander did, Flare took to the air and released a flurry of air cutters into the smoke, aiming for what she thought where the male might be.

Charmander's attack had been successful which also meant that Flare was struck by his Dragon Rage. Marco was relieved to see his Pokemon land a hit after all that smoke, but then he realized that he had attacked Tera's Pokemon. He quickly glance to the pink-haired girl who was worried about her Pokemon especially since she couldn't see Flare's condition. The smoke covered a great deal of the battlefield and due Dragon Rage's blast range, much of the smoke rose up making it even more difficult for them to see the battle and probably worst for Tera. Some of the smoke blew Marco's way, but it wasn't a lot so he didn't have to shield himself. When the smoke settled back down, Marco could have a better look at Tera who looked really worried, panicked maybe? The expression shock the black-haired boy, but he wondered if he carried the same look when his Charmander would get hurt. Speaking of the fire lizard, he landed back down on the ground and covered his eyes again from the smoke. He fired an attack and it seemed like he had hit Flare! The Pokemon was having a small panic attack since he just hurt his fiery princess.
Flare's shout made everyone in the battle sigh in relief. She was okay, more or less, and she was ready to continue. Tera looked happiest and Marco noticed that, but he also noticed that she wasn't blaming him nor was she sulking. Instead, she called out her next move. "Charmander watch out!" The fire lizard felt a surge of wind like a strong breeze was passing by. He looked up and saw Flare launching herself into the air. Charmander was mesmerize by the sight, but he quickly snapped out of it once he saw the energy forming on her arms. Razor-like energy blades were shot by Flare and they were coming right at him! Charmander jumped back trying to avoid the blades. He managed to dodge one of the blades, but he was unable to stop the several others that came at him. The blades felt like they were cutting the very air around him and several cuts appeared on his body from the attack. Charmander rolled back, but caught himself and stood his ground not without great difficulty. He was panting and the cuts on his body hurt, but he was still in this battle.
"Charmander don't give up! we can still...win this..." Marco trailed off a bit, did he want to win? Couldn't winning potentially cause a problem with his friendship with Tera? Even knowing this, he did not want to give up the battle. Charmander had been working so hard these past couple of weeks and he had been working hard to learn about Pokemon. Tera's word echoed in his head, "forget about the crowd...just focus on the battle...on me, Flare and your Charmander." He wasn't worried about the crowd, he was worried about them, but maybe she had meant to do his best. He needed to focus on Tera and Flare who were currently his opponents and who were trying their best. In the beginning Tera said to not go easy on them and maybe she really meant that. She was a honest person and he trusted her. If she won then he would be happy for her and if he happened to win then she would be happy for him...that's the kind of person she was. She was not a sore loser and Marco felt bad for worrying so much. The black-haired boy took a deep breath.
"Tera!" Marco shouted to catch her attention. He was a little nervous, but he needed to continue and get this feeling out of his chest, "I really like you! So I won't give up and I'll try my best to win this battle! Let's do our best and no matter what...let's always be together!" The audience became silent, but Marco didn't care because he felt so much better after voicing his thoughts; all he wanted was for Tera to understand his feelings. To many people this probably sounded like a love confession, which was why the crowd was silent, but Marco just to express that he valued Tera's friendship. He really liked being her friend and he wanted them to always have a good relationship even after this battle -perhaps even future battles- and hopefully Tera would understand his feelings. Charmander heard Marco's words and he was inspired because he also wanted to Flare to know that no matter what, he wanted to be with her.
Both trainer and Pokemon smiled finding their determination once more. The real battle would be starting from here. "Charmander use Dragon Rage again!" The fire lizard's fire tail started to grow in size again. His eyes were glowing as he charged his attack by opening his mouth and gathering energy. He fired the sphere of energy which expanded in size as it traveled across the field towards Flare.

"Great job Flare!" Tera said to encourage Flare as she saw the blue air blades her Pokemon had thrown cut through the smoke, clearing the way, even if it was only for a few moments before the smoke went back to how it originally was. One of Flare's air cutters even managed to hit Marco's Charmander! While Tera was happy about the attack connection, Flare stayed vigilant, preparing herself as best as she could should another attack come soon.
Tera ears perked when she heard the boy nervously yet loudly call her name, grabbing her attention. The pink-haired girl then happily grinned as Marco continued talking. Sure he still sounded nervous, but he looked like he was in better spirits. The boy was fun to be around and he reminded her so much of her little sister so she was more than happy to see that he was easing up. The pink-haired girl couldn't help but tilt her head in confusion for a number of reasons. Why was the crowd so quiet after the boy had spoken? Wasn't it normal to like your friends? Also, she found it a little peculiar as to why he would mention this now of all times. Maybe he was like her in that she blurted all of her thoughts out whenever she got too excited about something! Then again he wasn't her so she really couldn't say... Ahhh! There was no point in dwelling on it! Whatever the reason was, as long as the boy was back to his normal self, all was good to her! "Pfft I like ya too dude! And that's the spirit! Give it all ya got 'cause we sure will! Right, Flare?" The female fire Pokemon shouted to quickly agree with her trainer.
The boys were quick to send Flare another growing dragon rage attack her way, striking her down. When Tera saw her Charmander swiftly get up before she could ask if she was okay and looked back at her, the girl knew that her Charmander was ready to move. "Yoshaa! Use air cutter again Flare!" Flare acted quickly once again as she charged up, allowing the blue energy to wrap around her arms before releasing it in the male Charmander's direction.

Hearing Tera's reply made Marco feel like jumping in joy. She understood his words and felt the same way, there was nothing more amazing than that. He felt like such a great weight had left him and now he could completely focus on the battle. Marco entered a familiar state of hyper-awareness as the audience, referee, and stadium completely vanished from his vision. All that remained was Flare, Charmander, and Tera as if no one else existed. He already experienced this feeling with his battle against Faye and Purrloin. His entire self would concentrate solely on the battle and it made the experience feel very personal. There was no way to describe it just that something triggered when he was in battle. Faye had managed to pull that out of him during their last battle and now Tera had done the same thing. Marco was really enjoying Pokemon Battles and it made him want to become better.
Charmander's Dragon Rage had hit its mark, but Flare was a tough cookie and quickly recovered. Charmander understood that she didn't want to worry her trainer so she became tougher for her and that made the red lizard fall harder for her. He quickly shook off those lovey-dovey feelings and returned his focus on the battle. His eyes were still feeling the effects of Smokescreen and Flare was likely feeling the same way. Luckily none of their attacks had missed, but that luck could quickly change on them at any moment. Marco was worried of all the smoke, but there was no way to get rid of it so it was something they would have to deal with. Tera wasn't that worried and immediately called out her next move which was Air Cutter. Her decision made sense because they both had the same Pokemon; they both understood their Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses and they likely shared similar moves. However, Flare had a unique which was Air Cutter, but his Charmander learned Dragon Rage and seeing as Flare had yet to use that attack then chances were that she didn't know it. They each had one special move that the other did not posses and they would need to utilize that special move to have an edge in battle.
"Charmander, they're preparing for their attack! We have to try and dodge!" The red lizard nodded in agreement. They needed to take advantage of this smoke and the fact that Flare's vision was blurry due to said smoke; they needed to concentrate. Marco took a deep breath and closed his eyes with Charmander following his exact movements and closing his own eyes. They could both feel the wind starting to gather in one direction, the whistles which were growing louder from the wind concentrating on Flare's arms. Once the female Charmander had gathered the energy, she released her attack which was waves of energy. Marco opened his eyes and Charmander opened them at the same time. "Charmander move!" the black-haired boy ordered and Charmander's body followed the command as he charged towards those blades of energy. He stepped to the right, to the left, and then jumped up dodging every one of the wind blades that were coming at him! That was a sight to behold and the audience was going wild! "Ladies and Gentlemen! Charmander nimbly dodged Air Cutter!"
"Charmander get closer to Flare and use Dragon Rage!"
The fire lizard continued his charge while opening his mouth to gather energy needed for Dragon Rage. Once he reached Flare and entered her space, he stopped in front of her and opened his mouth to fire his attack at point-blank range!

The Battle is over and the winner is... Marco and his Charmander!
Due to the same typing, the decision came down to the moves and nature of the pokemon.
-Flare has a timid nature that meant that her speed was increased at the cost of attack. Meanwhile, Charmander has the naive nature so that special defense status were decreased for a higher speed.
A breakdown of the moves used is:
Flare: two smokescreens, two air cutters (one missed and one hit) Chamander: one smokescreen, 3 dragon rages (all hits)
despite air cutter having a higher base power, only one hit while all three of the dragon rages made contact
No fire moves were used for STAB nor was the blaze ability activated.
Overall, Dragon rage did more damage and had the advantage of being a set power that is not affected by nature or status.
Shadow, since you won, you can make your post to end in the matter that you chose without going overboard.

Charmander fired his Dragon Rage at Flare. The distance between them was cut short by the fire lizard charging at her before unleashing his attack. Flare was pushed back by the attack and even Charmander slid backwards from the shockwave of the explosion. Dragon Rage at such close proximity had caused a great damage to the female Charmander and even send her flying! The black smoke had disappeared from the battlefield returning Charmander's vision. The fire-type pokemon was thankful, but with clear eyes he saw the body of Flare falling down from the sky! The blast had send the orange lizard upwards and now she would be coming right down to hit the ground. Charmander acted quickly as as he ran up to the spot where she would be landing. He jumped up in hopes to catch her, but did he make it on time?
The audience gasped at the sight of the Charmander leaping to rescue the other Charmander that had already fallen unconscious. Marco watched with worried red-eyes wondering if his Pokemon had made the catch on time. When the dust cleared, Charmander stood holding an unconscious Flare in his arms. The audience cheered and Marco was happy to see both of them saved. Charmander gently lowered Flare on the ground and waited for her to regain consciousness. The battle was over, Flare could not continue battling so all that mattered was that she was okay enough to leave the battlefield. Charmander wanted to make sure she was okay and once he saw her open her eyes, he smiled.
Marco sighed in relief and crossed his arms. Even though Charmander and Flare were opponents for this battle, his Pokemon still showed great concern for Tera's Pokemon. He was proud of having such a kind Pokemon and he wanted to follow in his example. Even if Tera and him ended up battling in the future, he always wanted to make sure that she was okay and that they would still be friends. "Thank you for the match Tera! You and Flare were amazing!" The audience cheered louder for the two trainers and their Pokemon.

Both combatants had clearly displayed their fighting spirit! Neither Pokemon nor Trainer had showed any signs of giving up during their battle. The excitement in the air was certainly palpable and was only amplified by large audience that overlooked the battlefield. The amount of energy within the stadium was truly an amazing spectacle all on its own. Some members of the audience waved colourful banners, while others stood up from their spot in the bleachers with hands cupped to their mouth, fervently giving loud cheers that rose above the rest. But that was nothing compared to the excitement that was to come.
Once Oliver observed one of the two combatant's Pokemon collapse, his decision had been made. Taking a step forward from his place at the edge of the arena, Oliver kept both flags down at his sides, before taking in a deep breath. An expert in his field, Oliver was proud to announce this battle's winner. "Alright, this battle has come to a close." His bright eyes lit up as his clear voice projected through the small mic he wore on his ear, commanding the attention of the entire stadium. "The Winner is..." Raising his right hand, he pointed his green flag at the only Pokemon still standing. "Marco Guerrero and his Charmander!" Suddenly, a loud roar had erupted from the audience, as cheers and applauds dominated the air around both young trainers. Although both Pokemon had fought adamantly and had given their all, it was a shame only one could walk way a winner. "Marco will be moving on to the Semifinals! Stay tuned folks for what's come!"
Lowering his flag, Oliver soon expressed his personal congratulations to the winner and prepared to take a small break before judging the next battle in the long lineup of matches. He truely had his work cut out for him.
