Today was the first time I've seen my boyfriend since we got back from school, and he gave me my birthday gifts -- an aluminum replica of the Star Trek: The Next Generation phasers, and a beautiful wooden box. The best part? He handmade both of them; the phaser was precision-machined on the CNC back up at school, and his dad is a wood-worker and helped him make the box.
As cool as the phaser is, the thing that really takes my breath away is the box. Every time I pick it up, I just feel
love, like it's been woven right into the wood. I have a lot of miscellaneous boxes and chests similar to it that I use for my religious items, and I think he realized that and that's why he decided to make it for me, which is beautiful in and of itself because it shows that he respects me and my faith, even though it's different from his own. I just about cry thinking about it. I couldn't have possibly asked for anything more amazing.
