he took his place and awaited for his duel opponent. "so this is it eh ..." snoring, he shook his mane and sat down to wait. he really really disliked waiting but it was going to be worth giving his son the shocker of a life time. yawning boredly, he lifted a paw and started to inspect his claws. it was clear he was not worried about this duel at all as he just sat back and relaxed. honestly he just wanted to get this done and over with so he could move on with his day.

The dark lioness had heard a lion was awaiting the challenge. Akane offered to take it this time. No particular reason motivated her. She prepared herself then headed out to the spot where challengers waited. She would win. She lifted her head high and proud as she strolled across the hot sands. Akane was no long the ignore female who'd first come to the Firekin. So was so much more now. And she had fighter training. Something her deceased pride never taught a female. Sometimes she wondered how she ever managed to win her challenge.

She eyed the male as she approached. Privately she admitted to herself he was handsome. Despite that she needed to remain strong! "I hope your ready," she called calmly as she got closer.

Jioni raised a brow as the female approached and had to admit to himself that she was pretty easy on the eyes. but it kind of shocked him a female was going to be who he had to beat to gain entry. chuckling at her question, he flashed a grin. " i believe so." getting to his feet, he quickly made his first move and took a swing at her. sadly he should of been taking things more seriously as he missed badly with his first move. growling, he was unhappy with himself already and was not about to lose his first duel to a female. heaven forbid he lose to a female and his own son hear about it. "bring it."

Despite his claim, his first attack was so obvious. Maybe it would have successfully reached her when she'd first joined, but not now. Akane dodged back then leaped forward with her own attack. It wasn't as straight a leap as she would have liked to make. The sand shifted under her rear paw that threw off her aim just slightly. Still it wasn't bad. She didn't want to loose to this lion, but then she never wanted to loose. A fierce drive burned within her.

Jioni tried to dodge her attack but having no experience in sand it caused him to take a glancing blow to his side. snarling, he was quick to respond without hesitation with a swing at her legs to try to throw her off balance more. "is this all?" he hoped if he tripped her up enough that maybe just maybe he could pull through this duel and win. but it seemed so far they were equals in battle prowls and that wasn't sitting too well with him as he was trying to gain entrance into the pride. if it had not been for trying to gain entry into the pride, he actually would be finding some fun in this.

She saw it coming as her momentum carried her past him. In slow motion his paw reached out under her. Akane tripped badly and staggered a good distance before finally regaining her balance. "Not bad," she gave him credit for that move.

His snarky remark irritated her though. Was that all? It wasn't like she was trying to drive him out. Only test his abilities. Well she wanted to win, which amounted to the same thing as refusing him entry. Akane thought she was giving him a fair chance. If he wanted tougher so be it. It wouldn't be her fault when he lost.

She snarled and sent a smattering of fast claw action at him, followed by a snap of her jaws that if they connected would give him a fair n**.

Jioni's grin did not last long as he had to attempt to get away from a smattering of fast claws sent at him that he was unable to dodge and felt the claws glance against his skin. snarling, the next thing he knew he was trying to avoid her snapping jaws that ended up nipping him pretty good. as he tried to back off a little, he took a swing at her face to get her to back a little and stop trying to dig teeth into him. ears back, he could tell his little snarky comment had gotten her to step things up which could end up ruining his chances if he wasn't careful.

She was quite pleased with that move. She wasn't the novice he thought. Her eyes flashed challenging at him after that n**. Akane had gotten him good there! Her smugness gave him an opening to get his own hit in. She shook her head to clear it after blow to her jaw. Drat, she knew better than to let her ego into a fight. Belatedly she tried to snap her teeth on his paw, but it was already well out of reach. Stupid mistakes!

Jioni was pleased with himself to have caused her to miss her attack and got too cocky with his next attack. being unfamiliar with the sands caused him to slipup once again and completely miss her. growling low, he really was starting to hate fighting in sand. the effect it had on him was doing nothing but piss him off as he felt. being thrown off his game so much by the stupid ground was more than enough to make him more the eager to get this duel over and done with before he completely failed due to his lack of skills in the sand.

She wanted to laugh at him for his obvious mistake. Except that would just have been rude. While she wanted to win, she didn't want to be cruel. She remembered when she'd first come here. How she kept slipping or sliding on the sand, unable to find purchase. Then finally everything seemed to click and it hardly bothered her anymore.

"Spread your paws! Dig your toes in!" She snapped her advice at him as she came at him again. This time aiming to body slam against the larger male.

Jioni snarled in rage as she snapped advice to him. "i don't need your help." he was not about to listen to her advice specially when this was not some spar to teach him how to fight. when she came at him aiming to body slam, he attempted to dodge but came up short again cause of his slipping. to his anger not only did he slip, her body slam managed to glance him enough to knock him clear off balance so his own strike at her completely missed. oh was he going to never let go of how this duel was going.

She gave a hiss as he rejected her advice. If he'd only listen he might have done better just then. Her body slam was successful. Seeing an opportunity in his unbalance she took it. Maybe he'd be a little more open to listening to advise next time! Akane reared up and came down with both front paws to finish the job and knock him completely off his feet. She would be the clear winner here.

Which meant she'd have to send him away as unsuitable for the Firekin yet. Something about that didn't sit right in her belly. Rules were rules. She wasn't going to mate with a weakling. Now why would that thought pop up, she wondered.

snarling, he went crashing into the sand from her hit that fully knocked him down clean off his feet. he had no words to say except. "you win this time." tail lashing viciously, he got to his feet and shook the sand off himself. it was clear he was pissed off and aggravated he had lost his duel. turning his back to her, he made it clear he was done for the day. " next time I will no lose."
