The vote may have decided that Agni-pariksha was to work most closely with Tapana, but logic and politics dictated that Na-atesh become a part of the council. This was far from a bad thing, and for more reason than one, Agni-pariksha was eager to see what the white lion was made of. His background was intriguing to say the least. A capable solider turned medic for mysterious reasons. She was far from assuming it was because he was a coward, as some favoured, but she had yet to rule it out. It was as much a motivation for challenging him to duel as was getting to know her once political opponent.

"Ready when you are, Doc," she said, "Let's see what you're made of!"

It was something to be expected, he supposed. Even with a shift in the structure of those who were in charge, and the surprisingly peaceful vote, infighting might happen. Or rather, PLANNED infighting. Duels, he'd observed, were perfect for everybody to measure how strong others were. It helped determine prospective mates, or simply partners to have cubs with, when strength had much more to do in the choice than anything past blood relation.

Not that Na-atesh had anything to worry about, he was related to nobody in the pride except his parents.

He stepped up, rounding his shoulders as he stared Agni-pariksha down. "Doc..." He gave a little laugh. "I like it!" Tail brushing the sand, Na-atesh hunkered down. "I'm ready when you are!"

Move 1/5: Hit!

She gave a chuckle when he offered his approval of her nickname for him. That was one matter settled, then, though hardly a serious one. With a respectful nod, she watched him get into place and rushed forward. Agni-pariksha was capable of several styles of combat, but her first approach of an unknown opponent tended to be direct, especially in the relative safety of a friendly duel. If Na-atesh was expecting anything fancier than a body slam, he was in for a surprise-- and she was eager to see how he reacted. That would be how she determined where to go from there.

Move 1/5: Bide
Total: 2

When she hit, he slid just slightly in the sand, paws braced. The pale lion grimaced, then watched. He wasn't ready to attack just yet. If anything, he had some patience, and began to circle. He took in everything, the way she moved, the way she stood, the way she breathed. He knew her medical history, too, how many injuries she might have incurred in her life so far. Which as he recalled, wasn't too many. His tail flicked, sending a bit of sand flying. "Is that the best you've got? I thought you were fighter material!" Na-atesh let out a barking laugh. "I barely felt that!"

Move 2/5: Glancing Blow
Total: 5

She backed off when her body slam barely seemed to phase him. He was lying when he said he didn't feel it, she knew because she certainly could. To even pretend to brush it off meant he was made of sturdier stuff than she anticipated, though, and she mirrored his movements when he began to circle, smirking.

"Trying to make this a battle of wits, Doc?" she asked, "I'm strong but I'm not stupid. If you want a fight, you better make a move!"

She lunged for him again, this time stopping short of tackling him and aiming a blow at his face- another attempt to force him into action.

"Oh, you want MORE, do you?" His tail lashed as he gave off the air of ignoring the swat to his face. It did sting, and he'd have one of the medics address it later. But for now, he pointedly ignored it. There was no shift in his posture to give warning as he turned and, very suddenly, launched at the dark lioness. One large white paw swung out, aiming for her shoulder in a move that could, if done right, render the joint dislocated at worst, nastily bruised at best.

She snorted at his remark. The snide b*****d hadn't done anything yet, more of nothing wasn't what she was after. Unfortunately for her, this minor frustration coupled with her close proximity left her extremely vulnerable when he did strike and she let out a snarl of pain when he hit her shoulder. The regent made an effort to twist around and lash out again with her paw at his face, but the shoulder he struck refused to hold her steady as she pivoted. Her aim was off and she knew it well before her poor attempt at an attack swung far too low to connect, though her claws raked his mane.

Taking a few stumbling steps back, she let out a deep breath.

"So you do still have some fight in you, eh?"

He gave an angry snort, batting her paw away. "It never LEFT!" He just redirected it. He then rose up on his hind paws, coming down hard. The move was usually used to dispatch an enemy, but this time he purposely aimed it only to cause injury at the worst. She'd certainly be feeling the fight later, that was for sure. He knew he would, but for different reasons.

Agni-pariksha nearly chuckled at his answer, noting that she both struck a nerve and he was now fighting like he meant it- not to kill, of course, but certainly to cause damage. She'd provoked him and she was going to pay for it.. but damn if it didn't make things more exciting!

Shifting her weight away from the leg that was already hit, she braced herself for the impact so that the worst of it, at the least, did not compound upon existing blows. It nearly knocked the wind out of her, but she gave a painful twist on her bad leg and ducked so she was positioned near his belly. Anywhere else and she couldn't have made an effective move with little effort, but with such a vulnerable area, any insecurity and you got the hell away.

With that in mind, she used her head and neck to give him a good shove from underneath before he could figure out what she was doing.

Perhaps he'd been filled with too much hubris, growing cocky with his moves. Or maybe it was because he was already starting to get worn out with fighting. Regardless of the reason, Na-atesh found himself tumbling in the sand. He gave a half-assed attempt to swat at Agni-pariksha, but it missed by a long shot. He could only growl and pick himself up, glaring from behind the pale curtain of his mane at her. "Dirty move, Agni, very dirty."

"Says the a*****e trying to break my legs," she shot back with a smirk, not looking all that upset about his moves or her method of retaliation- in fact, Agni-pariksha looked like she was enjoying herself a great deal, newly acquired limp and all. It showed especially as she began to circle, giving him a chance to pick himself up.. but only just. Unfortunately for her, one awkward miscalculation and a sudden twist in her bad leg owing to the loose sand beneath her and her attempt to leap back into the game was completely without grace and accuracy. She landed well short of her target and left herself wide open for attack.

Picking himself up, Na-atesh sneered. "Don't think that just because I'm older and gave up the life of a soldier, I'm easily pushed over!" He moved swiftly, though not at a run. When he got close, he raised his paw, claws out. With one swift move, he brought it down toward her face, intent on leaving Angi-pariksha with a reminder. Only once his paw reconnected with sand did he snort at her. "You can take a lion out of the fight, but the fight stays in them. And the lessons they learned from it. Go spend time with the soldiers again, learn how to REALLY fight."

The regent gave a snarl when claws connected with her face, leaving marks that may well add to her collection of scars. He wanted to leave her with a reminder, she would happily accept. She'd learned a great deal about him in their fight, many surprising things that would beg for a follow-up, but he seemed far too worked up for that now.

"I yield," she said, stepping back and glaring in response to his suggestion. She had few words left for him, knowing better than to taunt a lion already in a rage. There would be time for that later. He might need reminding that she outranked him as a soldier, but now she was certain he might have joined her and the others as Brigadier had something not stopped him. A very interesting idea.

"Go cool down before you hurt someone else," she said, a small grin returning, "I better go see a medic about my shoulder."

He gave a huff, glaring at her. "Good idea." He didn't offer another word, only turning and walking off. The sun glared on his pale coat, but he paid it no mind, accustomed to the feeling. After all, he was a lion of the desert and the fire, even if his coat had no fire of its own.
